In this paper, we consider the simple step-stress model for a two-parameter exponential distribution, when both the parameters are unknown and the data are Type-II censored. It is assumed that under two different stress levels, the scale parameter only changes but the location parameter remains unchanged. It is observed that the maximum likelihood estimators do not always exist. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimates of the unknown parameters whenever they exist. We provide the exact conditional distributions of the maximum likelihood estimators of the scale parameters. Since the construction of the exact confidence intervals is very difficult from the conditional distributions, we propose to use the observed Fisher Information matrix for this purpose. We have suggested to use the bootstrap method for constructing confidence intervals. Bayes estimates and associated credible intervals are obtained using the importance sampling technique. Extensive simulations are performed to compare the performances of the different confidence and credible intervals in terms of their coverage percentages and average lengths. The performances of the bootstrap confidence intervals are quite satisfactory even for small sample sizes.  相似文献

Comparative lifetime experiments are important when the object of a study is to determine the relative merits of two competing duration of life products. This study considers the interval estimation for two Weibull populations when joint Type-II progressive censoring is implemented. We obtain the conditional maximum likelihood estimators of the two Weibull parameters under this scheme. Moreover, simultaneous approximate confidence region based on the asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimators are also discussed and compared with two Bootstrap confidence regions. We consider the behavior of probability of failure structure with different schemes. A simulation study is performed and an illustrative example is also given.  相似文献

Progressive Type-II hybrid censoring is a mixture of progressive Type-II and hybrid censoring schemes. In this paper, we discuss the statistical inference on Weibull parameters when the observed data are progressively Type-II hybrid censored. We derive the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and the approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLEs) of the Weibull parameters. We then use the asymptotic distributions of the maximum likelihood estimators to construct approximate confidence intervals. Bayes estimates and the corresponding highest posterior density credible intervals of the unknown parameters are obtained under suitable priors on the unknown parameters and also by using the Gibbs sampling procedure. Monte Carlo simulations are then performed for comparing the confidence intervals based on all those different methods. Finally, one data set is analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

Bayesian methods are often used to reduce the sample sizes and/or increase the power of clinical trials. The right choice of the prior distribution is a critical step in Bayesian modeling. If the prior not completely specified, historical data may be used to estimate it. In the empirical Bayesian analysis, the resulting prior can be used to produce the posterior distribution. In this paper, we describe a Bayesian Poisson model with a conjugate Gamma prior. The parameters of Gamma distribution are estimated in the empirical Bayesian framework under two estimation schemes. The straightforward numerical search for the maximum likelihood (ML) solution using the marginal negative binomial distribution is unfeasible occasionally. We propose a simplification to the maximization procedure. The Markov Chain Monte Carlo method is used to create a set of Poisson parameters from the historical count data. These Poisson parameters are used to uniquely define the Gamma likelihood function. Easily computable approximation formulae may be used to find the ML estimations for the parameters of gamma distribution. For the sample size calculations, the ML solution is replaced by its upper confidence limit to reflect an incomplete exchangeability of historical trials as opposed to current studies. The exchangeability is measured by the confidence interval for the historical rate of the events. With this prior, the formula for the sample size calculation is completely defined. There are several failure modes may cause system failed in reliability and survival analysis. It is usually assumed that the causes of failure modes are independent each other, though this assumption does not always hold. Dependent competing risks modes from Marshall-Olkin bivariate Weibull distribution under Type-I progressive interval censoring scheme are considered in this paper. We derive the maximum likelihood function, the maximum likelihood estimates, the 95% Bootstrap confidence intervals and the 95% coverage percentages of the parameters when shape parameter is known, and EM algorithm is applied when shape parameter is unknown. The Monte-Carlo simulation is given to illustrate the theoretical analysis and the effects of parameters estimates under different sample sizes. Finally, a data set has been analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this work we have determined the asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters β, λ, and δ for the right-truncated Dagum model. Some numerical comparisons show that, for each combination of the parameters and for each sample size, the variance of maximum likelihood estimators increases as the truncation point decreases, i.e., with the increase in the cut of the right tail of distribution.  相似文献

In this article a generalized Frank copula was selected to model the dependence between the energy on two frequency bands of the speech signal, coming from eight languages. An algorithm was developed that uses maximum likelihood to choose the best fitting copula’s parameters. Through bootstrap, the algorithm estimates the variability of the parameters for each language and also computes confidence regions by means of Voronoi tesselations. A linguistic conjecture which claims that the languages are organized in three rhythmic classes, was confirmed by the Voronoi regions. Modeling with a uniparametric Frank copula, the different degrees of dependence between the energies were quantified.  相似文献

The lognormal distribution is quite commonly used as a lifetime distribution. Data arising from life-testing and reliability studies are often left truncated and right censored. Here, the EM algorithm is used to estimate the parameters of the lognormal model based on left truncated and right censored data. The maximization step of the algorithm is carried out by two alternative methods, with one involving approximation using Taylor series expansion (leading to approximate maximum likelihood estimate) and the other based on the EM gradient algorithm (Lange, 1995). These two methods are compared based on Monte Carlo simulations. The Fisher scoring method for obtaining the maximum likelihood estimates shows a problem of convergence under this setup, except when the truncation percentage is small. The asymptotic variance-covariance matrix of the MLEs is derived by using the missing information principle (Louis, 1982), and then the asymptotic confidence intervals for scale and shape parameters are obtained and compared with corresponding bootstrap confidence intervals. Finally, some numerical examples are given to illustrate all the methods of inference developed here.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the efficient estimation of the semiparametric transformation model with doubly truncated data. We propose a two-step approach for obtaining the pseudo maximum likelihood estimators (PMLE) of regression parameters. In the first step, the truncation time distribution is estimated by the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator (Shen, 2010a) when the distribution function K of the truncation time is unspecified or by the conditional maximum likelihood estimator (Bilker and Wang, 1996) when K is parameterized. In the second step, using the pseudo complete-data likelihood function with the estimated distribution of truncation time, we propose expectation–maximization algorithms for obtaining the PMLE. We establish the consistency of the PMLE. The simulation study indicates that the PMLE performs well in finite samples. The proposed method is illustrated using an AIDS data set.  相似文献

In this paper, a new censoring scheme named by adaptive progressively interval censoring scheme is introduced. The competing risks data come from Marshall–Olkin extended Chen distribution under the new censoring scheme with random removals. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters and the reliability function by using the EM algorithm based on the failure data. In addition, the bootstrap percentile confidence intervals and bootstrap-t confidence intervals of the unknown parameters are obtained. To test the equality of the competing risks model, the likelihood ratio tests are performed. Then, Monte Carlo simulation is conducted to evaluate the performance of the estimators under different sample sizes and removal schemes. Finally, a real data set is analyzed for illustration purpose.  相似文献

The study of differences among groups is an interesting statistical topic in many applied fields. It is very common in this context to have data that are subject to mechanisms of loss of information, such as censoring and truncation. In the setting of a two‐sample problem with data subject to left truncation and right censoring, we develop an empirical likelihood method to do inference for the relative distribution. We obtain a nonparametric generalization of Wilks' theorem and construct nonparametric pointwise confidence intervals for the relative distribution. Finally, we analyse the coverage probability and length of these confidence intervals through a simulation study and illustrate their use with a real data set on gastric cancer. In this article, the generalized linear model for longitudinal data is studied. A generalized empirical likelihood method is proposed by combining generalized estimating equations and quadratic inference functions based on the working correlation matrix. It is proved that the proposed generalized empirical likelihood ratios are asymptotically chi-squared under some suitable conditions, and hence it can be used to construct the confidence regions of the parameters. In addition, the maximum empirical likelihood estimates of parameters are obtained, and their asymptotic normalities are proved. Some simulations are undertaken to compare the generalized empirical likelihood and normal approximation-based method in terms of coverage accuracies and average areas/lengths of confidence regions/intervals. An example of a real data is used for illustrating our methods.  相似文献

Inverse Weibull (IW) distribution is one of the widely used probability distributions for nonnegative data modelling, specifically, for describing degradation phenomena of mechanical components. In this paper, by compounding IW and power series distributions we introduce a new lifetime distribution. The compounding procedure follows the same set-up carried out by Adamidis and Loukas [A lifetime distribution with decreasing failure rate. Stat Probab Lett. 1998;39:35–42]. We provide mathematical properties of this new distribution such as moments, estimation by maximum likelihood with censored data, inference for a large sample and the EM algorithm to determine the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters. Furthermore, we characterize the proposed distributions using a simple relationship between two truncated moments and maximum entropy principle under suitable constraints. Finally, to show the flexibility of this type of distributions, we demonstrate applications of two real data sets.  相似文献

A new four-parameter distribution called the exponentiated power Lindley–Poisson distribution which is an extension of the power Lindley and Lindley–Poisson distributions is introduced. Statistical properties of the distribution including the shapes of the density and hazard functions, moments, entropy measures, and distribution of order statistics are given. Maximum likelihood estimation technique is used to estimate the parameters. A simulation study is conducted to examine the bias, mean square error of the maximum likelihood estimators, and width of the confidence interval for each parameter. Finally, applications to real data sets are presented to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider Marshall–Olkin extended exponential (MOEE) distribution which is capable of modelling various shapes of failure rates and aging criteria. The purpose of this paper is three fold. First, we derive the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters and the observed the Fisher information matrix from progressively type-II censored data. Next, the Bayes estimates are evaluated by applying Lindley’s approximation method and Markov Chain Monte Carlo method under the squared error loss function. We have performed a simulation study in order to compare the proposed Bayes estimators with the maximum likelihood estimators. We also compute 95% asymptotic confidence interval and symmetric credible interval along with the coverage probability. Third, we consider one-sample and two-sample prediction problems based on the observed sample and provide appropriate predictive intervals under classical as well as Bayesian framework. Finally, we analyse a real data set to illustrate the results derived.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new scheme called joint progressive type-I (JPC-I) censored and as a special case, joint type-I censored scheme. Bayesian and non Bayesian estimators have been obtained for two exponential populations under both JPC-I censored scheme and joint type-I censored. The maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters, the asymptotic variance covariance matrix, have been obtained. Bayes estimators have been developed under squared error loss function using independent gamma prior distributions. Moreover, approximate confidence region based on the asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimators and credible confidence region from a Bayesian viewpoint are also discussed and compared with two Bootstrap confidence regions. A numerical illustration for these new results is given.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is twofold. First we discuss the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters of a two-parameter Birnbaum–Saunders distribution when the data are progressively Type-II censored. The maximum likelihood estimators are obtained using the EM algorithm by exploiting the property that the Birnbaum–Saunders distribution can be expressed as an equal mixture of an inverse Gaussian distribution and its reciprocal. From the proposed EM algorithm, the observed information matrix can be obtained quite easily, which can be used to construct the asymptotic confidence intervals. We perform the analysis of two real and one simulated data sets for illustrative purposes, and the performances are quite satisfactory. We further propose the use of different criteria to compare two different sampling schemes, and then find the optimal sampling scheme for a given criterion. It is observed that finding the optimal censoring scheme is a discrete optimization problem, and it is quite a computer intensive process. We examine one sub-optimal censoring scheme by restricting the choice of censoring schemes to one-step censoring schemes as suggested by Balakrishnan (2007), which can be obtained quite easily. We compare the performances of the sub-optimal censoring schemes with the optimal ones, and observe that the loss of information is quite insignificant.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the empirical likelihood inferences of the partial functional linear model with missing responses. Two empirical log-likelihood ratios of the parameters of interest are constructed, and the corresponding maximum empirical likelihood estimators of parameters are derived. Under some regularity conditions, we show that the proposed two empirical log-likelihood ratios are asymptotic standard Chi-squared. Thus, the asymptotic results can be used to construct the confidence intervals/regions for the parameters of interest. We also establish the asymptotic distribution theory of corresponding maximum empirical likelihood estimators. A simulation study indicates that the proposed methods are comparable in terms of coverage probabilities and average lengths of confidence intervals. An example of real data is also used to illustrate our proposed methods.  相似文献

The maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of the parameters of a two-parameter lognormal distribution with left truncation and right censoring are developed through the Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm. For comparative purpose, the MLEs are also obtained by the Newton–Raphson method. The asymptotic variance-covariance matrix of the MLEs is obtained by using the missing information principle, under the EM framework. Then, using asymptotic normality of the MLEs, asymptotic confidence intervals for the parameters are constructed. Asymptotic confidence intervals are also obtained using the estimated variance of the MLEs by the observed information matrix, and by using parametric bootstrap technique. Different confidence intervals are then compared in terms of coverage probabilities, through a Monte Carlo simulation study. A prediction problem concerning the future lifetime of a right censored unit is also considered. A numerical example is given to illustrate all the inferential methods developed here.  相似文献

We present a maximum likelihood estimation procedure for the multivariate frailty model. The estimation is based on a Monte Carlo EM algorithm. The expectation step is approximated by averaging over random samples drawn from the posterior distribution of the frailties using rejection sampling. The maximization step reduces to a standard partial likelihood maximization. We also propose a simple rule based on the relative change in the parameter estimates to decide on sample size in each iteration and a stopping time for the algorithm. An important new concept is acquiring absolute convergence of the algorithm through sample size determination and an efficient sampling technique. The method is illustrated using a rat carcinogenesis dataset and data on vase lifetimes of cut roses. The estimation results are compared with approximate inference based on penalized partial likelihood using these two examples. Unlike the penalized partial likelihood estimation, the proposed full maximum likelihood estimation method accounts for all the uncertainty while estimating standard errors for the parameters.  相似文献
