Simes' (1986) improved Bonferroni test is verified by simulations ?to control the α-level when testing the overall homogeneity hypothesis with all pairwise t statistics in a balanced parallel group design. Similarly, this result was found to hold (for practical purposes) in various underlying distributions other than the normal and in some unbalanced designs. To allow the use of step-up procedures based on pairwise t statistics, simulations were used to verify that Simes' test, when applied to testing multiple subset homogeneity hypotheses with pairwise t statistics also keeps the level ? α. Some robustness as above was found here too. Tables of the simulation results are provided and an example of a step-up Hommel-Shaffer type procedure with pairwise comparisons is given.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of sequentially estimating the mean of the exponential distribution with relative linear exponential loss and fixed cost for each observation is considered within the Bayesian framework. An optimal procedure with a deterministic stopping rule is derived. Since the corresponding value of the optimal deterministic stopping rule cannot be obtained directly, an approximate optimal deterministic stopping rule and an asymptotically pointwise optimal rule are proposed. In addition, we propose a robust procedure with a deterministic stopping rule, which does not depend on the parameters of the prior distribution. All of the proposed procedures are shown to be asymptotically optimal. Some numerical studies are conducted to investigate the performances of the proposed procedures. A real data set is provided to illustrate the use of the proposed procedures.  相似文献

The problem of estimation of unknown response function of a time-invariant continuous linear system is considered. Integral sample input–output cross-correlogram is taken as an estimator of the response function. The inputs are supposed to be zero-mean stationary Gaussian process. A criterion on the shape of impulse response function is given. For this purpose, we apply a theory of square–Gaussian random processes and estimate the probability that supremum of square–Gaussian process exceeds the level specified by some function.  相似文献

In this paper, within the framework of a Bayesian model, we consider the problem of sequentially estimating the intensity parameter of a homogeneous Poisson process with a linear exponential (LINEX) loss function and a fixed cost per unit time. An asymptotically pointwise optimal (APO) rule is proposed. It is shown to be asymptotically optimal for the arbitrary priors and asymptotically non-deficient for the conjugate priors in a similar sense of Bickel and Yahav [Asymptotically pointwise optimal procedures in sequential analysis, in Proceedings of the Fifth Berkeley Symposium on Mathematical Statistics and Probability, Vol. 1, University of California Press, Berkeley, CA, 1967, pp. 401–413; Asymptotically optimal Bayes and minimax procedures in sequential estimation, Ann. Math. Statist. 39 (1968), pp. 442–456] and Woodroofe [A.P.O. rules are asymptotically non-deficient for estimation with squared error loss, Z. Wahrsch. verw. Assume that we have a sequence of n independent and identically distributed random variables with a continuous distribution function F, which is specified up to a few unknown parameters. In this paper, tests based on sum‐functions of sample spacings are proposed, and large sample theory of the tests are presented under simple null hypotheses as well as under close alternatives. Tests, which are optimal within this class, are constructed, and it is noted that these tests have properties that closely parallel those of the likelihood ratio test in regular parametric models. Some examples are given, which show that the proposed tests work also in situations where the likelihood ratio test breaks down. Extensions to more general hypotheses are discussed.  相似文献

Many exploratory studies such as microarray experiments require the simultaneous comparison of hundreds or thousands of genes. It is common to see that most genes in many microarray experiments are not expected to be differentially expressed. Under such a setting, a procedure that is designed to control the false discovery rate (FDR) is aimed at identifying as many potential differentially expressed genes as possible. The usual FDR controlling procedure is constructed based on the number of hypotheses. However, it can become very conservative when some of the alternative hypotheses are expected to be true. The power of a controlling procedure can be improved if the number of true null hypotheses (m 0) instead of the number of hypotheses is incorporated in the procedure [Y. Benjamini and Y. Hochberg, On the adaptive control of the false discovery rate in multiple testing with independent statistics, J. Edu. Behav. Statist. 25(2000), pp. 60–83]. Nevertheless, m 0 is unknown, and has to be estimated. The objective of this article is to evaluate some existing estimators of m 0 and discuss the feasibility of these estimators in incorporating into FDR controlling procedures under various experimental settings. The results of simulations can help the investigator to choose an appropriate procedure to meet the requirement of the study.  相似文献

Given a discrete-valued sample X1, …, Xn, we wish to decide whether it was generated by a distribution belonging to a family H0, or it was generated by a distribution belonging to a family H1. In this work, we assume that all distributions are stationary ergodic, and do not make any further assumptions (e.g. no independence or mixing rate assumptions). We would like to have a test whose probability of error (both Types I and II) is uniformly bounded. More precisely, we require that for each ? there exists a sample size n such that probability of error is upper-bounded by ? for samples longer than n. We find some necessary and some sufficient conditions on H0 and H1 under which a consistent test (with this notion of consistency) exists. These conditions are topological, with respect to the topology of distributional distance.  相似文献

Two or more regression models are said to be non-nested if neither can be obtained from the remaining models when parametric restrictions are imposed. Tests for choosing between linear non-nested regression models are found in literature, such as J and MJ tests. In this paper we propose variants of these two tests for the GAMLSS (Generalized Additive Models for Location, Scale and Shape) class of models. We report Monte Carlo evidence on finite sample behaviour of the proposed tests. Bootstrap-based testing inference is also considered. Overall, bootstrap MJ test had the best performance. An empirical application is presented and discussed.  相似文献

We investigate use of empirical and exponential empirical likelihood, and Hotelling and James statistics, to test the null hypothesis of equal population means based on two independent samples of data on the simplex. We perform an extensive numerical study using data simulated from various distributions on the simplex. The results, taken together with practical considerations regarding implementation, support the use of bootstrap-calibrated James statistic.  相似文献

This article presents a multiple hypothesis test procedure that combines two well known tests for structural change in the linear regression model, the CUSUM test and the recursive t test. The CUSUM test is run through the sequence of recursive residuals as usual; if the CUSUM plot does not violate the critical lines, one more step is taken to perform the t test for hypothesis of zero mean based on all recursive residuals. The asymptotic size of this multiple hypothesis test is derived; power simulation results suggest that it outperforms the traditional CUSUM test and complements other tests that are currently stressed in econometrics.  相似文献

In this paper we address the evaluation of measurement process quality. We mainly focus on the evaluation procedure, as far as it is based on the numerical outcomes for the measurement of a single physical quantity. We challenge the approach where the ‘exact’ value of the observed quantity is compared with the error interval obtained from the measurements under test and we propose a procedure where reference measurements are used as ‘gold standard’. To this purpose, we designed a specific t-test procedure, explained here. We also describe and discuss a numerical simulation experiment demonstrating the behaviour of our procedure.  相似文献

Bandwidth selection is an important problem of kernel density estimation. Traditional simple and quick bandwidth selectors usually oversmooth the density estimate. Existing sophisticated selectors usually have computational difficulties and occasionally do not exist. Besides, they may not be robust against outliers in the sample data, and some are highly variable, tending to undersmooth the density. In this paper, a highly robust simple and quick bandwidth selector is proposed, which adapts to different types of densities.  相似文献

Preliminary testing procedures for the two means problem traditionally employ the pooled variance t-statistic. In this paper we show that bias of the t-statistic under conditions of heterogeneity of variance may be increased if use of the t-statistic is conditional on an affirmative F-test. For this reason we conclude that use of the t-statistic in preliminary testing procedures is inappropriate.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, a pivot function which is in terms of the sample and the underlying population distribution is introduced. It is assumed that the population distribution is continuous and strictly increasing on its support. Then, the martingale central limit theorem is applied to prove that limiting distribution of the pivot function is the standard normal. Interestingly, this result provides a unified procedure that can be applied for the goodness of fit, and for the purpose of parametric and nonparametric inferences, for the populations having distribution functions that are continuous and strictly increasing on their supports. This paper discusses multiple testing procedures in dose-response clinical trials with primary and secondary endpoints. A general gatekeeping framework for constructing multiple tests is proposed, which extends the Dunnett test [Journal of the American Statistical Association 1955; 50: 1096-1121] and Bonferroni-based gatekeeping tests developed by Dmitrienko et al. [Statistics in Medicine 2003; 22:2387-2400]. The proposed procedure accounts for the hierarchical structure of the testing problem; for example, it restricts testing of secondary endpoints to the doses for which the primary endpoint is significant. The multiple testing approach is illustrated using a dose-response clinical trial in patients with diabetes. Monte-Carlo simulations demonstrate that the proposed procedure provides a power advantage over the Bonferroni gatekeeping procedure. The power gain generally increases with increasing correlation among the endpoints, especially when all primary dose-control comparisons are significant.  相似文献

Process capability indices have been widely used to evaluate the process performance to the continuous improvement of quality and productivity. Since the lifetime of products may possess a two-parameter exponential distribution, 14 estimators are used to estimate the lifetime performance index based on the multiply type II censored sample. These estimators are utilized to develop the new hypothesis testing algorithmic procedure in the condition of known L. Finally, two practical examples are illustrated to employ the testing algorithmic procedure to determine whether the process is capable.  相似文献
