We study the characteristics of the Pickands' dependence function for bivariate extreme distribution for minima, BEVM, when considering the stochastics ordering of the two variables, X < Y. The existing Pickand's dependence function terminologies and theories are modified to suit the dependence functions of extreme minimum cases. The main result is the introduction of the restricted logistic dependence function, A RL , and the restricted exponential function, V RL (x, y).  相似文献

Some modifications of bivariate Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern (FGM) copulas are going to be explained in this article. These modifications are generated by using mixtures of bivariate FGM copula functions. The main goal of this study is to determine both the ranges of association parameter and the rate of correlation, and also observe the changes in local dependence function. An application, which is related with simulated data, is conducted and results are illustrated.  相似文献

Multivariate copula models are commonly used in place of Gaussian dependence models when plots of the data suggest tail dependence and tail asymmetry. In these cases, it is useful to have simple statistics to summarize the strength of dependence in different joint tails. Measures of monotone association such as Kendall's tau and Spearman's rho are insufficient to distinguish commonly used parametric bivariate families with different tail properties. We propose lower and upper tail-weighted bivariate measures of dependence as additional scalar measures to distinguish bivariate copulas with roughly the same overall monotone dependence. These measures allow the efficient estimation of strength of dependence in the joint tails and can be used as a guide for selection of bivariate linking copulas in vine and factor models as well as for assessing the adequacy of fit of multivariate copula models. We apply the tail-weighted measures of dependence to a financial data set and show that the measures better discriminate models with different tail properties compared to commonly used risk measures – the portfolio value-at-risk and conditional tail expectation.  相似文献

A modified chi-square test statistic is constructed for testing the hypothesis of independence in a two-way contingency table against a class of ordered alternatives defined in terms of pooled cross-product ratios. The test procedure can also be used to test for positive quadrant dependence in a two-way contingency table. The asymptotic distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis is obtained. Some power comparisons with known test procedures are given. A numerical example is given to illustrate the use of this test.  相似文献

In this paper, bivariate binomial distributions generated by extreme bivariate Bernoulli distributions are obtained and studied. Representation of the bivariate binomial distribution generated by a convex combination of extreme bivariate Bernoulli distributions as a mixture of distributions in the class of bivariate binomial distribution generated by extreme bivariate Bernoulli distribution is obtained. A subfamily of bivariate binomial distributions exhibiting the property of positive and negative dependence is constructed. Some results on positive dependence notions as it relates to the bivariate binomial distribution generated by extreme bivariate Bernoulli distribution and a linear combination of such distributions are obtained.  相似文献

The paper presents a partition of the Pearson chi-squared statistic for triply ordered three-way contingency tables. The partition invokes orthogonal polynomials and identifies three-way association terms as well as each combination of two-way associations. This partition provides information about the structure of each variable by identifying important bivariate and trivariate associations in terms of location (linear), dispersion (quadratic) and higher order components. The significance of each term in the partition, and each association within each term can also be determined.
The paper compares the chi-squared partition with the log-linear models of Agresti (1994) for multi-way contingency tables with ordinal categories, by generalizing the model proposed by Haberman (1974).  相似文献

Abstract. A non‐parametric rank‐based test of exchangeability for bivariate extreme‐value copulas is first proposed. The two key ingredients of the suggested approach are the non‐parametric rank‐based estimators of the Pickands dependence function recently studied by Genest and Segers, and a multiplier technique for obtaining approximate p‐values for the derived statistics. The proposed approach is then extended to left‐tail decreasing dependence structures that are not necessarily extreme‐value copulas. Large‐scale Monte Carlo experiments are used to investigate the level and power of the various versions of the test and show that the proposed procedure can be substantially more powerful than tests of exchangeability derived directly from the empirical copula. The approach is illustrated on well‐known financial data.  相似文献

Any continuous bivariate distribution can be expressed in terms of its margins and a unique copula. In the case of extreme‐value distributions, the copula is characterized by a dependence function while each margin depends on three parameters. The authors propose a Bayesian approach for the simultaneous estimation of the dependence function and the parameters defining the margins. They describe a nonparametric model for the dependence function and a reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm for the computation of the Bayesian estimator. They show through simulations that their estimator has a smaller mean integrated squared error than classical nonparametric estimators, especially in small samples. They illustrate their approach on a hydrological data set.  相似文献

The nature of stochastic dependence in the classic bivariate normal density framework is analyzed. In the case of this distribution we stress the way the conditional density of one of the random variables depends on realizations of the other. Typically, in the bivariate normal case this dependence takes the form of a parameter (here the “expected value”) of one probability density depending continuously (here linearly) on realizations of the other random variable. Our point is that such a pattern does not need to be restricted to that classical case of bivariate normal. We show that this paradigm can be generalized and viewed in ways that allows us to extend it far beyond the bivariate normal distributions class.  相似文献

This paper suggests using a mixture of parametric and non‐parametric methods to construct prediction regions in bivariate extreme‐value problems. The non‐parametric part of the technique is used to estimate the dependence function, or copula, and the parametric part is employed to estimate the marginal distributions. A bootstrap calibration argument is suggested for reducing coverage error. This combined approach is compared with a more parametric one, relative to which it has the advantages of being more flexible and simpler to implement. It also enjoys these features relative to predictive likelihood methods. The paper shows how to construct both compact and semi‐infinite bivariate prediction regions, and it treats the problem of predicting the value of one component conditional on the other. The methods are illustrated by application to Australian annual maximum temperature data.  相似文献

In this paper, the exhaustive search principle used in functional trees for classifying densities is shown to select variables with more split points. A new variable selection scheme is proposed to correct this bias. The Pearson chi-squared tests for associated two-way contingency tables are used to select the variables. Through simulation, we show that the new method can control bias and is more powerful in selecting split variable.  相似文献

The classical chi-square test for independence cannot convey additional information and the degree of the association of two factors in two-way contingency table. Besides, measures of association by contingency coefficient need to be used with care, because the association measures depend on the number of rows r and the number of columns c. This article proposes a multistage chi-square test to measure the degree of the association between the two factors in two-way contingency table. We also give simulation and real examples to assess the performance of the proposed method. The results show that our proposed method can effectively investigate the degree of association of two factors in two-way contingency table.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a bivariate discrete generalized exponential distribution, whose marginals are discrete generalized exponential distribution as proposed by Nekoukhou, Alamatsaz and Bidram [Discrete generalized exponential distribution of a second type. Statistics. 2013;47:876–887]. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution is a very flexible distribution and the bivariate geometric distribution can be obtained as a special case of this distribution. The proposed distribution can be seen as a natural discrete analogue of the bivariate generalized exponential distribution proposed by Kundu and Gupta [Bivariate generalized exponential distribution. J Multivariate Anal. 2009;100:581–593]. We study different properties of this distribution and explore its dependence structures. We propose a new EM algorithm to compute the maximum-likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters which can be implemented very efficiently, and discuss some inferential issues also. The analysis of one data set has been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed model. Finally, we propose some open problems and conclude the paper.  相似文献

A system of subroutines is presented for efficient computation of joint probabilities from Jensen's bivariate F distribution. Any valid set of parameters is permitted, whereas previous work was limited to the special case of equal numerator degrees of freedom and equal canonical correlations in the underlying multinormal distribution. Taguchi's statistic has long been known to be a more appropriate measure of association of the dependence for ordinal variables compared to the Pearson chi-squared statistic. Therefore, there is some advantage in using Taguchi's statistic in the correspondence analysis context when a two-way contingency table consists at least of an ordinal categorical variable. The aim of this paper, considering the contingency table with two ordinal categorical variables, is to show a decomposition of Taguchi's index into linear, quadratic and higher-order components. This decomposition has been developed using Emerson's orthogonal polynomials. Moreover, two case studies to explain the methodology have been analyzed.  相似文献

A new bivariate distribution with exponential marginals has been introduced by Singpurwalla & Youngren (1993). This distribution is absolutely continuous and has a single parameter. It was originally motivated as the failure model for a two-component system experiencing damage described by a shot–noise process. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. The first is to articulate on several aspects of this distribution, in particular, its genesis, the nature of its dependence, its correlation structure, and its generalized version as a two-parameter bivariate distribution with exponential marginals. The second purpose of this paper is more general. Prompted by the need to explain certain features of the bivariate distribution, it is found useful to introduce a new notion in reliability and survival analysis. This notion is called the "hazard potential", of an item susceptible to failure. The hazard potential is viewed as a kind of hidden parameter of failure models that delineates a cause and effect relationship in reliability.  相似文献

This article conducts a Bayesian analysis for bivariate degradation models based on the inverse Gaussian (IG) process. Assume that a product has two quality characteristics (QCs) and each of the QCs is governed by an IG process. The dependence of the QCs is described by a copula function. A bivariate simple IG process model and three bivariate IG process models with random effects are investigated by using Bayesian method. In addition, a simulation example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods. Finally, an example about heavy machine tools is presented to validate the proposed models.  相似文献
