Abstract

We suggested the class of estimators of the population mean with its bias and mean square error. It has been shown that the suggested class is more efficient than the usual unbiased, ratio, product and regression estimators and estimators due to Bahl and Tuteja (1991), Singh et al. (2009), and Upadhyaya et al. (2011). In addition an empirical study also carried out to and founded that the members of suggested family also have improvement over Grover and Kaur (2011) and Shabbir and Gupta (2011) classes. Two-phase (double) sampling version of the proposed class was also given.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In successive sampling some recent works depict the use of super-population models where information on stable auxiliary variable over occasions has been utilized. Stability character of auxiliary variable may not sustain, if the duration between occasions is large. To cope with such situations, the present work is an attempt to develop some estimation procedures by utilizing the information on two independent auxiliary variables through a linear super-population model. Some estimators are proposed to estimate the current population mean in two occasions successive (rotation) sampling. Optimum replacement strategies are formulated and performances of the proposed estimators have been discussed. Results are interpreted through empirical studies.  相似文献

In this paper, an attempt has been made to present some efficient classes of estimators of population mean on current occasion in two-occasion successive sampling under random non response in two-phase setup. Effectiveness of the proposed classes of estimators has been studied under the assumptions that sampling units follow a distribution under the random non response. To check the performances, the proposed classes of estimators are compared with an estimator under the similar situation under the complete response. Results are demonstrated through empirical studies which show the reliable nature of the proposed classes of estimators. Suitable recommendations have been made to the survey practitioners.  相似文献

Recently, Shabbir and Gupta [Shabbir, J. and Gupta, S. (2011). On estimating finite population mean in simple and stratified random sampling. Communications in Statistics-Theory and Methods, 40(2), 199–212] defined a class of ratio type exponential estimators of population mean under a very specific linear transformation of auxiliary variable. In the present article, we propose a generalized class of ratio type exponential estimators of population mean in simple random sampling under a very general linear transformation of auxiliary variable. Shabbir and Gupta's [Shabbir, J. and Gupta, S. (2011). On estimating finite population mean in simple and stratified random sampling. Communications in Statistics-Theory and Methods, 40(2), 199–212] class of estimators is a particular member of our proposed class of estimators. It has been found that the optimal estimator of our proposed generalized class of estimators is always more efficient than almost all the existing estimators defined under the same situations. Moreover, in comparison to a few existing estimators, our proposed estimator becomes more efficient under some simple conditions. Theoretical results obtained in the article have been verified by taking a numerical illustration. Finally, a simulation study has been carried out to see the relative performance of our proposed estimator with respect to some existing estimators which are less efficient under certain conditions as compared to the proposed estimator.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article considers the problem of estimation of the ratio of population means at the current occasion based on the samples selected over two occasions. Using auxiliary information on both the occasions, some classes of estimators have been proposed. Properties of the proposed estimators have been studied and their respective optimum replacement strategies are discussed. The gains in efficiency of the proposed classes of estimators over the direct estimator where no past information is used are computed. Theoretical results have been interpreted through empirical studies which are followed by suitable recommendations.  相似文献

This paper defines a general procedure for estimating the population mean of the study variate based on double sampling for stratification in presence of multi-auxiliary information. Classes of combined and separate estimators have been suggested and their properties are studied under large sample approximation. A class of unstratified double sampling estimators is also proposed with its properties. Asymptotic optimum estimators in the classes are identified with their approximate variance formulae. Further the proposed classes of estimators are compared with the corresponding class of estimators based on un-stratified double sampling. All findings are encouraging and support the soundness of the proposed procedure for mean estimation.  相似文献

Abstract

The present study confirms the influential role of a positively and a negatively correlated auxiliary variables in enhancing the precision of estimates of current population mean in two occasion rotation (successive) sampling. Exponential-type estimators of current population mean have been proposed for three different situations: (i) the information on a positively correlated auxiliary variable is readily available on both occasions (ii) the information on a negatively correlated auxiliary variable is readily available on both occasions and (iii) the information on both positively and negatively correlated auxiliary variables are readily available on both the occasions. The characteristics of the proposed estimators have been explored and their efficacious performances are compared with the natural and recent contemporary estimators. Optimum replacement strategies of the proposed estimation procedures have been formulated. Simulation and empirical studies are carried out to justify the proposition of the proposed estimators and appropriate recommendations have been put forward to the survey practitioners.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of estimating the population variance S2y of the study variable y using auxiliary information in sample surveys. We have suggested a class of estimators of the population variance S2y of the study variable y when the population variance S2x of the auxiliary variable x is known. Asymptotic expressions of bias and mean squared error (MSE) of the proposed class of estimators have been obtained. Asymptotic optimum estimators in the proposed class of estimators have also been identified along with its MSE formula. A comparison has been provided. We have further provided the double sampling version of the proposed class of estimators. The properties of the double sampling version have been provided under large sample approximation. In this article, we introduce six estimators, three based on row averages and the remaining three on column averages of population proportions for trichotomous population when randomized response sampling with a normal randomizing distribution is used. The estimators have been obtained using the method of moments. All the proposed estimators are shown to be unbiased and their variances have been worked out. In this article, general estimation procedures of population mean on the most recent occasion in the presence of non response on all occasions have been deduced in h-occasion successive sampling. In the estimation procedures, regression type estimators have been suggested with the aid of stable and mutually independent several auxiliary variables which are readily available only on the most recent occasion. To check the efficiency of the proposed estimators, they have been compared with similar estimator in absence of non response. Abstract

This article addresses the problem of estimating population distribution function for simple random sampling in the presence of non response and measurement error together. We suggest a general class of estimators for estimating the cumulative distribution function using the auxiliary information. The expressions for the bias and mean squared error are derived up to the first order of approximation. The performance of the proposed class of estimators is compared with considered estimators both theoretically and numerically. A real data set is used to support the theoretical findings.  相似文献

In the present article, we have proposed some classes of estimators based on transformed auxiliary variable. The biases and mean squared errors (MSEs) of the proposed estimators have been obtained. The proposed estimators have been compared with simple mean estimator when there is no matching and the optimum estimator, which is a combination of the means of the matched and unmatched portion of the sample at the second occasion. Abstract

In the present article, an effort has been made to develop calibration estimators of the population mean under two-stage stratified random sampling design when auxiliary information is available at primary stage unit (psu) level. The properties of the developed estimators are derived in-terms of design based approximate variance and approximate consistent design based estimator of the variance. Some simulation studies have been conducted to investigate the relative performance of calibration estimator over the usual estimator of the population mean without using auxiliary information in two-stage stratified random sampling. The use of robust measures helps to increase the precision of the estimators, especially for the estimation of extremely skewed distributions. In this article, a generalized ratio estimator is proposed by using some robust measures with single auxiliary variable under the adaptive cluster sampling (ACS) design. We have incorporated tri-mean (TM), mid-range (MR) and Hodges-Lehman (HL) of the auxiliary variable as robust measures together with some conventional measures. The expressions of bias and mean square error (MSE) of the proposed generalized ratio estimator are derived. Two types of numerical study have been conducted using artificial clustered population and real data application to examine the performance of the proposed estimator over the usual mean per unit estimator under simple random sampling (SRS). Related results of the simulation study show that the proposed estimators provide better estimation results on both real and artificial population over the competing estimators.  相似文献

Using the known coefficient of variation of the study character, generalized and regression-type estimators for the population mean using two phase sampling in the presence of non response were proposed and their properties have been studied. The conditions under which the proposed estimators are more efficient than the relevant estimators have been obtained. The empirical studies were given in the support of the problems in the case of positive and negative correlation between the study and the auxiliary characters which show the increase in the efficiency of the proposed estimators using known coefficient of variation of the study character with respect to the relevant estimators.  相似文献
