Many applied workers are strongly oriented to residual analysis for assessing model adequacy. Formal test statistics of adequacy however are frequently derived from likelihood theory, particularly through Lagrange Multipliers. In contraGt, the present paper derives the formal statistics by concentrating Upon the distribution of residuals. It is shown that most existing tests can be derived in this way from a few elementary principles of specification analysis. One advantage of this alternative methodology is that it highlights some difficulties in existing approaches and simultaneously indicates a resolution of them; a good example being testing for heteroscedasticity in simultaneous equations. Other issues such as independence and robustness of diagnostic tests are also easily explored within the proposed framework.  相似文献

A popular model for competing risks postulates the existence of a latent unobserved failure time for each risk. Assuming that these underlying failure times are independent is attractive since it allows standard statistical tools for right-censored lifetime data to be used in the analysis. This paper proposes simple independence score tests for the validity of this assumption when the individual risks are modeled using semiparametric proportional hazards regressions. It assumes that covariates are available, making the model identifiable. The score tests are derived for alternatives that specify that copulas are responsible for a possible dependency between the competing risks. The test statistics are constructed by adding to the partial likelihoods for the individual risks an explanatory variable for the dependency between the risks. A variance estimator is derived by writing the score function and the Fisher information matrix for the marginal models as stochastic integrals. Pitman efficiencies are used to compare test statistics. A simulation study and a numerical example illustrate the methodology proposed in this paper.  相似文献

The inverse Gaussian (IG) distribution is widely used to model data and then it is important to develop efficient goodness of fit tests for this distribution. In this article, we introduce some new test statistics for examining the IG goodness of fit based on correcting moments of nonparametric probability density functions of entropy estimators. These tests are consistent against all alternatives. Critical points and power of the tests are explored by simulation. We show that the proposed tests are more powerful than competitor tests. Finally, the proposed tests are illustrated by real data examples.  相似文献

A key diagnostic in the analysis of linear regression models is whether the fitted model is appropriate for the observed data. The classical lack of fit test is used for testing the adequacy of a linear regression model when replicates are available. While many efforts have been made in finding alternative lack of fit tests for models without replicates, this paper focuses on studying the efficacy of three tests: the classical lack of fit test, Utts' (1982) test, Burn & Ryan's (1983) test. The powers of these tests are computed for a variety of situations. Comments and conclusions on the overall performance of these tests are made, including recommendations for future studies.  相似文献

Heteroscedasticity testing has a long history and is still an important matter in the linear model. There exist many types of tests, but they are limited in use to their own specific cases and sensitive to normality. Here, we propose a dimension test approach to heteroscedasticity. The proposed test overcomes the shortcomings of the existing methods, so that it is robust to normality and is unified in sense that it is applicable in the linear model with multi-dimensional response. Numerical studies confirm that the proposed test is favorable over the existing tests with moderate sample sizes, and real data analysis is presented.  相似文献

The LM test is modified to test any value of the ratio of two variance components in a mixed effects linear model with two variance components. The test is exact, so it can be used to construct exact confidence intervals on this ratio.Exact Neyman-Pearson (NP) tests on the variance ratio are described.Their powers provide attainable upper bounds on powers of tests on the variance ratio.Efficiencies of LM tests, which include ANOVA tests, and NP tests are compared for unbalanced, random, one-way ANOVA models.Confidence intervals corresponding to LM tests and NP tests are described.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss the class of generalized Birnbaum–Saunders distributions, which is a very flexible family suitable for modeling lifetime data as it allows for different degrees of kurtosis and asymmetry and unimodality as well as bimodality. We describe the theoretical developments on this model including properties, transformations and related distributions, lifetime analysis, and shape analysis. We also discuss methods of inference based on uncensored and censored data, diagnostics methods, goodness-of-fit tests, and random number generation algorithms for the generalized Birnbaum–Saunders model. Finally, we present some illustrative examples and show that this distribution fits the data better than the classical Birnbaum–Saunders model.  相似文献

The hazard function plays an important role in survival analysis and reliability, since it quantifies the instantaneous failure rate of an individual at a given time point t, given that this individual has not failed before t. In some applications, abrupt changes in the hazard function are observed, and it is of interest to detect the location of such a change. In this paper, we consider testing of existence of a change in the parameters of an exponential regression model, based on a sample of right-censored survival times and the corresponding covariates. Likelihood ratio type tests are proposed and non-asymptotic bounds for the type II error probability are obtained. When the tests lead to acceptance of a change, estimators for the location of the change are proposed. Non-asymptotic upper bounds of the underestimation and overestimation probabilities are obtained. A short simulation study illustrates these results.  相似文献

Scheffé’s mixed model, generalized for application to multivariate repeated measures, is known as the multivariate mixed model (MMM). The primary advantages the MMM are (1) the minimum sample size required to conduct an analysis is smaller than for competing procedures and (2) for certain covariance structures, the MMM analysis is more powerful than its competitors. The primary disadvantage is that the MMM makes a very restrictive covariance assumption; namely multivariate sphericity. This paper shows, first, that even minor departures from multivariate sphericity inflate the size of MMM based tests. Accordingly, MMM analyses, as computed in release 4.0 of SPSS MANOVA (SPSS Inc., 1990), can not be recommended unless it is known that multivariate sphericity is satisfied. Second, it is shown that a new Box-type (Box, 1954) Δ-corrected MMM test adequately controls test size unless departure from multivariate sphericity is severe or the covariance matrix departs substantially from a multiplicative-Kronecker structure. Third, power functions of adjusted MMM tests for selected covariance and noncentrality structures are compared to those of doubly multivariate methods that do not require multivariate sphericity. Based on relative efficiency evaluations, the adjusted MMM analyses described in this paper can be recommended only when sample sizes are very small or there is reason to believe that multivariate sphericity is nearly satisfied. Neither the e-adjusted analysis suggested in the SPSS MANOVA output (release 4.0) nor the adjusted analysis suggested by Boik (1988) can be recommended at all.  相似文献

A number of nonparametric tests are compared empirically for a randomized block layout. We assess tests appropriate for when the data are not consistent with normality or when outliers invalidate traditional analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests. The objective is to assess, within this setting, tests that use ranks within blocks, the rank transform procedure that ranks the complete sample and continuous analogs of the Cochran–Mantel–Haenszel tests. The usual linear model is assumed, and our primary foci are tests of equality of means and component tests that assess linear and quadratic trends in the means. These tests include the traditional Page and Friedman tests. We conclude that the rank transform tests have competitive power and warrant greater use than is currently apparent.  相似文献

In the analysis of recurrent events where the primary interest lies in studying covariate effects on the expected number of events occurring over a period of time, it is appealing to base models on the cumulative mean function (CMF) of the processes (Lawless & Nadeau 1995). In many chronic diseases, however, more than one type of event is manifested. Here we develop a robust inference procedure for joint regression models for the CMFs arising from a bivariate point process. Consistent parameter estimates with robust variance estimates are obtained via unbiased estimating functions for the CMFs. In most situations, the covariance structure of the bivariate point processes is difficult to specify correctly, but when it is known, an optimal estimating function for the CMFs can be obtained. As a convenient model for more general settings, we suggest the use of the estimating functions arising from bivariate mixed Poisson processes. Simulation studies demonstrate that the estimators based on this working model are practically unbiased with robust variance estimates. Furthermore, hypothesis tests may be based on the generalized Wald or generalized score tests. Data from a trial of patients with bronchial asthma are analyzed to illustrate the estimation and inference procedures.  相似文献

The objective of this paper is to propose and examine a class of generalized maximum likelihood asymptotic power one tests for detection of various types of changes in a linear regression model. The proposed retrospective tests are based on martingales structures Shiryayev–Roberts statistics. This approach is widely known in a sequential analysis of change point problems as an optimal method of detecting a change in distribution. Guaranteed non-asymptotic upper bounds for the significance levels of the considered tests are presented.Simulated data sets are used to demonstrate that the proposed tests can give good results in practice.  相似文献

本文对以往我国全要素生产率测度中存在的问题做了较为系统的分析,试图总结一套科学且具有可操作性的测度方法。本文在区分实际资本存量和有效资本存量的基础上,根据我国资本存量估算数据,采用一阶差分对数模型和有关经济计量学方法,估计资本与劳动的产出弹性,避免了可能出现的“伪回归”“序列相关”“多重共线性”和“异方差”等问题,从而保证所测度的产出弹性估计值既符合经济理论分析又能通过经济计量学检验。本文还阐述了全要素生产率与广义技术进步这两个指标 的联系与区别,并通过实证分析揭示了不同时期两项指标产生差异的原因。实证分析结果表明,改革开放以来全要素生产率提高对促进我国经济增长发挥了重要作用。  相似文献

空间面板数据模型由于考虑了经济变量间的空间相关性,其优势日益凸显,已成为计量经济学的热点研究领域。将空间相关性与动态模式同时扩展到面板模型中的空间动态面板模型,不仅考虑了经济变量之间的空间相关性,还考虑了时间上的滞后性,是空间面板模型的发展,增强了模型的解释力。考虑一种带固定个体效应、因变量的时间滞后项、因变量与随机误差项均存在空间自相关性的空间动态面板回归模型,提出了在个体数n和时间数T都很大,且T相对地大于n的条件下空间动态面板模型中时间滞后效应存在性的LM和LR检验方法,其检验方法包括联合检验、一维及二维的边际和条件检验;推导出这些检验在零假设下的极限分布;其极限分布均服从卡方分布。通过模拟试验研究检验统计量的小样本性质,结果显示其具有优良的统计性质。  相似文献

Tests of sharp null hypotheses, although frequently computed, are.rarely appropriate as the major end product of statistical analyses, except possibly in some, areas of the natural sciences. But procedures closely akin to tests, although often less formal, are needed in almost every investigation in which exploratory data analysis is used to help to decide upon the statistical model appropriate for the final analysis. The term “diagnostic check”has been suggested by Box and Jenkins for these procedures. Traditional statistical tests often suggest useful diagnostic checks -and this, in my view, is what tests are mainly good for-but visual examination and interpretation of data plots are often equally important. Biere is also much to be gained by the development of new diagnostic checks, and testing theory may be useful as one guide to this development.  相似文献

We consider functional measurement error models, i.e. models where covariates are measured with error and yet no distributional assumptions are made about the mismeasured variable. We propose and study a score-type local test and an orthogonal series-based, omnibus goodness-of-fit test in this context, where no likelihood function is available or calculated-i.e. all the tests are proposed in the semiparametric model framework. We demonstrate that our tests have optimality properties and computational advantages that are similar to those of the classical score tests in the parametric model framework. The test procedures are applicable to several semiparametric extensions of measurement error models, including when the measurement error distribution is estimated non-parametrically as well as for generalized partially linear models. The performance of the local score-type and omnibus goodness-of-fit tests is demonstrated through simulation studies and analysis of a nutrition data set.  相似文献

Ever since Professor Bancroft developed inference procedures using preliminary tests there has been a lot of research in this area by various authors across the world. This could be evidenced from two papers that widely reviewed the publications on preliminary test-based statistical methods. The use of preliminary tests in solving doubts arising over the model parameters has gained momentum as it has proven to be effective and powerful over to that of classical methods. Unfortunately, there has been a downward trend in research related to preliminary tests as it could be seen from only few recent publications. Obviously, the benefits of preliminary test-based statistical methods did not reach Six Sigma practitioners as the concept of Six Sigma just took off and it was in a premature state. In this paper, efforts have been made to present a review of the publications on the preliminary test-based statistical methods. Though studies on preliminary test-based methods have been done in various areas of statistics such as theory of estimation, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, regression analysis, reliability, to mention a few, only few important methods are presented here for the benefit of readers, particularly Six Sigma quality practitioners, to understand the concept. In this regard, the define, measure, analyze, improve and control methodology of six sigma is presented with a link of analyze phase to preliminary test-based statistical methods. Residual marked empirical process-based tests are commonly used in regression models. However, they suffer from data sparseness in high-dimensional space when there are many covariates. This paper has three purposes. First, we suggest a partial dimension reduction adaptive-to-model testing procedure that can be omnibus against general global alternative models although it fully use the dimension reduction structure under the null hypothesis. This feature is because that the procedure can automatically adapt to the null and alternative models, and thus greatly overcomes the dimensionality problem. Second, to achieve the above goal, we propose a ridge-type eigenvalue ratio estimate to automatically determine the number of linear combinations of the covariates under the null and alternative hypotheses. Third, a Monte-Carlo approximation to the sampling null distribution is suggested. Unlike existing bootstrap approximation methods, this gives an approximation as close to the sampling null distribution as possible by fully utilising the dimension reduction model structure under the null model. Simulation studies and real data analysis are then conducted to illustrate the performance of the new test and compare it with existing tests.  相似文献

It is shown how the usual two-step estimator for the standard sample selection model can be seen as a method of moments estimator. Standard GMM theory can be brought to bear on this model, greatly simplifying the derivation of the asymptotic properties of this model. Using this setup, the asymptotic variance is derived in detail and a consistent estimator of it is obtained that is guaranteed to be positive definite, in contrast with the estimator given in the literature. It is demonstrated how the MM approach easily accommodates variations on the estimator, like the two-step IV estimator that handles endogenous regressors, and a two-step GLS estimator. Furthermore, it is shown that from the MM formulation, it is straightforward to derive various specification tests, in particular tests for selection bias, equivalence with the censored regression model, normality, homoskedasticity, and exogeneity.  相似文献
