Dear Women of China,
I'll be working in China for the next few years and I'd like to bring my dog, Copper, with me. He's a full-grown golden retriever and he weighs 72 pounds. Will it be difficult to import a large dog like him to China? What should I do before leaving for China? I have heard there is a mandatory, 30-day quarantine for all pets. Is there any way to skip it by showing the right health documents?  相似文献

BORN to a poor farmer's family at Yangxi Village, Yeping Town, Ruijin County (today's Ruijin City) of Jiangxi Province in 1914, I was sent to the Lius to be a child daughter-in-law. The Lius were too poor to support themselves. They had nothing but two sons. Worried about not having enough money to purchase a daughter-in-law in the future, the family accepted me as a child daughter-in-law-to-be. I was told by my elders that when I was three years old, I went with my father-in-law to beg. On the way, I was bitten by a rich family's dog, causing my mother-in-law to burst into tears. My father-in-law died before long, leaving his wife, two sons and I with nothing to live on. With an uncle-in-law as  相似文献

I am a professional photographer. I like to take pictures of the most common rural scenes and farmers in a very simple way. To me, the more common a thing is, the closer it is to the nature of life. With my portable Leica camera, I went to the Central Plains(especially Henan Province)twice:  相似文献

I have given a name to the studio where I make my soft sculptures: "Spirit Existing." It means that my life exists together with my spirit; that spirit is inseparable from body. I believe the original nature of life is the most beautiful thing in the world. On September 6th, 1997, I handed in my resignation to the tax bureau where I worked. Leaving my family and my son at home, I came to Beijing alone to create a new life for myself. As a woman making such a choice at the age of 35, I  相似文献

"WHAT'S your impression of Japan? How has it advanced?" I was repeatedly asked the same questions by my friends and colleagues after I returned to Beijing. As a neighboring country of China and a world economic superpower, Japan is still a remote and unfamiliar place to most Chinese. In November of 1996, I was invited by the Japanese government to participate in the Asian-Pacific Journalist's Seminar on Women and Media. My one-week schedule  相似文献

"Understanding My Husband理解我的丈夫As a military surgeon, my husband has practised medicine in Southwest China's Tibet for 28 years. He devotes all his energies to serving the army and the people inTibet, but is seldom back to our home, in Dalian, a city in Northeast China, to call on me, since he usually has no time to take his holidays. For this reason, colleagues in my working unit often wonder: "Why do we never see your husband? Where is he? Has he died or, have you divorced each other?" I can't say anything to them.  相似文献

Sandwich Sam
SAM, a 28-year-old Canadian, has a nice family name: Goodman. Four years ago, he came to China and now he owns two cafes. Sam is not tall. To match his loose black sweater, he wears a pair of jeans which are so long that the trouser legs are wrinkled over his sneakers. Why did he think of running a cafe in Beijing? "After graduating from college, I went to Hong Kong to be a fitness coach for half a year. Then, I went to South Korea. While sightseeing, I taught English to make a living.  相似文献

More Pregnancies, Babies in the Year of the Dog 准妈妈狗年扎堆生“狗宝宝” A growing number of women participated in pregnancy examinations in Beijing's health centers for women and children in the weeks leading up to the Year of the Dog. That indicates more babies will be born, compared with recent years, over the next several months. Among the 12 animals (rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig) used to symbolize the years in which people are born, Chinese tend to believe the dog has the reputation of being "clever, loyal and reliable." Therefore, many couples hope to have their babies in 2006-the Year of the Dog. However, experts remind prospective parents not to be too superstitious, as the great number of children born in the Year of the Dog will face fierce competition at both school and work when they grow up.  相似文献

AT the age of 32, I went back to school. I enrolled as a student in the Department of History at a night college attached to Beijing Normal University. My son was only two years old at the time. At first I went to night classes just to earn a college diploma. I already had 15 years' work experience, including four years of being a magazine editor. But if I wanted to keep my job as editor, I had to obtain a diploma. When I first sat down in the terraced, 300-seat classroom and touched my new textbooks, I was full of a craving for knowledge. I knew that my classmates  相似文献

Why Didn't You Say So Earlier/in the First Place?你怎么不早说呀? This sentence is often used when someone complains about another person who gives advice after the fact, at which point it is too late to be useful. In fact, the speaker tries to shift the blame to the other person. Example例句: 1. A: Could you help me get two tickets for Swan Lake? B: Why didn't you say so earlier? I had 10! A:帮我搞两张“天鹅湖”的票好吗? B:你怎么不早说呀!刚才我手里还有10张!  相似文献

I want to share a practical assignment that I often use with clients, I've just returned from a first meeting with a client who will spend the nextfew months completing a communication-coaching program that I offer. While specific objectives differ from person to person, the general purpose of the program is to help (usually female) Chinese professionals improve their ability to communicate, at a regional or global level, with confidence and influence.  相似文献

I was not a flower lover when I was a little girl. Instead, I spent my days mixing with the "mischievous" boys in the neighborhood; my favorite toys were wooden sticks which I imagined to be guns. I guess part of the reason for my unusual behavior goes to the influence of my father serving in the army and China was undergoing the Cultural Revolution. Then all things beyond bare necessity were categorized as bourgeois extravagance. How could a prole-tariat offspring come to love flowers, which  相似文献

Iam 21 years old. My home is in a small village of Putian, Fujian Province. Like thousands of healthy children, I once had a colorful childhood. Unexpectedly, however, I contracted an eye disease at the age of 13 and began to gradually lose my eyesight. At first, I cherished a gleam of hope that heaven would kindly make me see light again someday. My mother took me to one hospital after another for treatment, but my eyesight remained dim. I became frightened and restless. I realized that sometime soon I might no longer be able to see my mother's kind face, my father's thin figure, the golden rape flowers in the fields, or the meandering stream by the village. In the daytime, the adults went to work in the fields and the children went to school. I was left alone in the empty house. I tried  相似文献

THE war left a deep impression on people. I was still a child then and what I remember most was fleeing from the war and the air raids. During the eight years of the war I went with my mother to Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macao Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou. We fled to literally every part of the country in the south. Now and then I was able to go to school, but I never stayed in any one of them long before we had to flee again. By the time I was supposed to graduate from middle school I had been to five different middle schools, but because of the constant changes of schools I never obtained any graduation certificate. In my research work I see some materials on the war, and  相似文献

Shooting the Way
LAST November, after working as a picture editor for eight years for China's biggest news agency, I was assigned to Bonn as Xinhua's overseas photography correspondent. When I reported in at the German Federal News Agency, the woman officer in charge of foreign journalists' affairs said to me in surprise: "As far as I know, China has never sent a photojoumalist to Bonn before. Now here comes the first Chinese news photographer, and she's a woman! Tell me, what does it mean for you, as a woman, to be given such a working opportunity?"  相似文献
