In this paper, we propose a general kth correlation coefficient between the density function and distribution function of a continuous variable as a measure of symmetry and asymmetry. We first propose a root-n moment-based estimator of the kth correlation coefficient and present its asymptotic results. Next, we consider statistical inference of the kth correlation coefficient by using the empirical likelihood (EL) method. The EL statistic is shown to be asymptotically a standard chi-squared distribution. Last, we propose a residual-based estimator of the kth correlation coefficient for a parametric regression model to test whether the density function of the true model error is symmetric or not. We present the asymptotic results of the residual-based kth correlation coefficient estimator and also construct its EL-based confidence intervals. Simulation studies are conducted to examine the performance of the proposed estimators, and we also use our proposed estimators to analyze the air quality dataset.  相似文献

This paper considers nonlinear regression models when neither the response variable nor the covariates can be directly observed, but are measured with both multiplicative and additive distortion measurement errors. We propose conditional variance and conditional mean calibration estimation methods for the unobserved variables, then a nonlinear least squares estimator is proposed. For the hypothesis testing of parameter, a restricted estimator under the null hypothesis and a test statistic are proposed. The asymptotic properties for the estimator and test statistic are established. Lastly, a residual-based empirical process test statistic marked by proper functions of the regressors is proposed for the model checking problem. We further suggest a bootstrap procedure to calculate critical values. Simulation studies demonstrate the performance of the proposed procedure and a real example is analysed to illustrate its practical usage.  相似文献

In the presence of univariate censoring, a class of nonparametric estimators is proposed for linear functionals of a bivariate distribution of paired failure times. The estimators are shown to be root-n consistent and asymptotically normal. An adjusted empirical log-likelihood ratio statistic is developed and proved to follow a chi-square distribution asymptotically. Two types of confidence intervals, based on the normal approximation method and the empirical likelihood method, respectively, are constructed to make inference about the linear functionals. Their performance is evaluated in several simulation studies and a real example.  相似文献

This paper deals with the estimation of the error distribution function in a varying coefficient regression model. We propose two estimators and study their asymptotic properties by obtaining uniform stochastic expansions. The first estimator is a residual-based empirical distribution function. We study this estimator when the varying coefficients are estimated by under-smoothed local quadratic smoothers. Our second estimator which exploits the fact that the error distribution has mean zero is a weighted residual-based empirical distribution whose weights are chosen to achieve the mean zero property using empirical likelihood methods. The second estimator improves on the first estimator. Bootstrap confidence bands based on the two estimators are also discussed.  相似文献

We consider a random effects quantile regression analysis of clustered data and propose a semiparametric approach using empirical likelihood. The random regression coefficients are assumed independent with a common mean, following parametrically specified distributions. The common mean corresponds to the population-average effects of explanatory variables on the conditional quantile of interest, while the random coefficients represent cluster specific deviations in the covariate effects. We formulate the estimation of the random coefficients as an estimating equations problem and use empirical likelihood to incorporate the parametric likelihood of the random coefficients. A likelihood-like statistical criterion function is yield, which we show is asymptotically concave in a neighborhood of the true parameter value and motivates its maximizer as a natural estimator. We use Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) samplers in the Bayesian framework, and propose the resulting quasi-posterior mean as an estimator. We show that the proposed estimator of the population-level parameter is asymptotically normal and the estimators of the random coefficients are shrunk toward the population-level parameter in the first order asymptotic sense. These asymptotic results do not require Gaussian random effects, and the empirical likelihood based likelihood-like criterion function is free of parameters related to the error densities. This makes the proposed approach both flexible and computationally simple. We illustrate the methodology with two real data examples.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem of estimating the binomial parameter via the nonparametric empirical Bayes approach. This estimation problem has the feature that estimators which are asymptotically optimal in the usual empirical Bayes sense do not exist (Robbins (1958, 1964)), However, as pointed out by Liang (1934) and Gupta and Liang (1988), it is possible to construct asymptotically optimal empirical Bayes estimators if the unknown prior is symmetric about the point 1/2, In this paper, assuming symmetric priors a monotone empirical Bayes estimator is constructed by using the isotonic regression method. This estimator is asymptotically optimal in the usual empirical Bayes sense. The corresponding rate of convergence is investigated and shown to be of order n-1, where n is the number of past observations at hand.  相似文献

We propose an orthogonal series density estimator for complex surveys, where samples are neither independent nor identically distributed. The proposed estimator is proved to be design-unbiased and asymptotically design-consistent. The asymptotic normality is proved under both design and combined spaces. Two data driven estimators are proposed based on the proposed oracle estimator. We show the efficiency of the proposed estimators in simulation studies. A real survey data example is provided for an illustration.  相似文献

An extended single‐index model is considered when responses are missing at random. A three‐step estimation procedure is developed to define an estimator for the single‐index parameter vector by a joint estimating equation. The proposed estimator is shown to be asymptotically normal. An algorithm for computing this estimator is proposed. This algorithm only involves one‐dimensional nonparametric smoothers, thereby avoiding the data sparsity problem caused by high model dimensionality. Some simulation studies are conducted to investigate the finite sample performances of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we investigate estimations in varying-coefficient partially linear errors-in-variables models with covariates missing at random. However, the estimators are often biased due to the existence of measurement errors, the bias-corrected profile least-squares estimator and local liner estimators for unknown parametric and coefficient functions are obtained based on inverse probability weighted method. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators both for the parameter and nonparametric parts are established. Second, we study asymptotic distributions of an empirical log-likelihood ratio statistic and maximum empirical likelihood estimator for the unknown parameter. Based on this, more accurate confidence regions of the unknown parameter can be constructed. The methods are examined through simulation studies and illustrated by a real data analysis.  相似文献

The generalized method of moments (GMM) and empirical likelihood (EL) are popular methods for combining sample and auxiliary information. These methods are used in very diverse fields of research, where competing theories often suggest variables satisfying different moment conditions. Results in the literature have shown that the efficient‐GMM (GMME) and maximum empirical likelihood (MEL) estimators have the same asymptotic distribution to order n?1/2 and that both estimators are asymptotically semiparametric efficient. In this paper, we demonstrate that when data are missing at random from the sample, the utilization of some well‐known missing‐data handling approaches proposed in the literature can yield GMME and MEL estimators with nonidentical properties; in particular, it is shown that the GMME estimator is semiparametric efficient under all the missing‐data handling approaches considered but that the MEL estimator is not always efficient. A thorough examination of the reason for the nonequivalence of the two estimators is presented. A particularly strong feature of our analysis is that we do not assume smoothness in the underlying moment conditions. Our results are thus relevant to situations involving nonsmooth estimating functions, including quantile and rank regressions, robust estimation, the estimation of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and so on.  相似文献

This article develops empirical likelihood for threshold autoregressive models. We propose general estimating equations based on moment constraint. Under some suitable conditions, we show the empirical likelihood estimators for parameter are asymptotically normally distributed, and the proposed log empirical likelihood ratio statistic asymptotically follows a standard chi-squared distribution.  相似文献

Sieve Empirical Likelihood and Extensions of the Generalized Least Squares   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The empirical likelihood cannot be used directly sometimes when an infinite dimensional parameter of interest is involved. To overcome this difficulty, the sieve empirical likelihoods are introduced in this paper. Based on the sieve empirical likelihoods, a unified procedure is developed for estimation of constrained parametric or non-parametric regression models with unspecified error distributions. It shows some interesting connections with certain extensions of the generalized least squares approach. A general asymptotic theory is provided. In the parametric regression setting it is shown that under certain regularity conditions the proposed estimators are asymptotically efficient even if the restriction functions are discontinuous. In the non-parametric regression setting the convergence rate of the maximum estimator based on the sieve empirical likelihood is given. In both settings, it is shown that the estimator is adaptive for the inhomogeneity of conditional error distributions with respect to predictor, especially for heteroscedasticity.  相似文献

This paper studies estimation in the proportional odds model, with time-dependent covariates, based on right-censored data. The estimation procedure is an extension of the Yang and Prentice (J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 94 (1999) 125) approach to the time-dependent covariate case. The proposed estimators include a class of minimum distance estimators defined through weighted empirical odds function. These estimators are shown to be strongly consistent and asymptotically normal, with variances that can be consistently estimated. It also contains a simulation study making comparison of some of the estimators in the class.  相似文献

Summary.  A representation is developed that expresses the bivariate survivor function as a function of the hazard function for truncated failure time variables. This leads to a class of nonparametric survivor function estimators that avoid negative mass. The transformation from hazard function to survivor function is weakly continuous and compact differentiable, so that such properties as strong consistency, weak convergence to a Gaussian process and bootstrap applicability for a hazard function estimator are inherited by the corresponding survivor function estimator. The set of point mass assignments for a survivor function estimator is readily obtained by using a simple matrix calculation on the set of hazard rate estimators. Special cases arise from a simple empirical hazard rate estimator, and from an empirical hazard rate estimator following the redistribution of singly censored observations within strips. The latter is shown to equal van der Laan's repaired nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator, for which a Greenwood-like variance estimator is given. Simulation studies are presented to compare the moderate sample performance of various nonparametric survivor function estimators.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to investigate hypothesis testing in functional comparative calibration models. Wald type statistics are considered which are asymptotically distributed according to the chi-square distribution. The statistics are based on maximum likelihood, corrected score approach, and method of moment estimators of the model parameters, which are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normally distributed. Results of analytical and simulation studies seem to indicate that the Wald statistics based on the method of moment estimators and the corrected score estimators are, as expected, less efficient than the Wald type statistic based on the maximum likelihood estimators for small n. Wald statistic based on moment estimators are simpler to compute than the other Wald statistics tests and their performance improves significantly as n increases. Comparisons with an alternative F statistics proposed in the literature are also reported.  相似文献

Empirical-likelihood based inference for the parameters in a generalized partially linear single-index models (GPLSIM) is investigated. Based on the local linear estimators of the nonparametric parts of the GPLSIM, an estimated empirical likelihood-based statistic of the parametric components is proposed. We show that the resulting statistic is asymptotically standard chi-squared distributed, the confidence regions for the parametric components are constructed. Some simulations are conducted to illustrate the proposed method.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a new empirical likelihood method for linear regression analysis with a right censored response variable. The method is based on the synthetic data approach for censored linear regression analysis. A log-empirical likelihood ratio test statistic for the entire regression coefficients vector is developed and we show that it converges to a standard chi-squared distribution. The proposed method can also be used to make inferences about linear combinations of the regression coefficients. Moreover, the proposed empirical likelihood ratio provides a way to combine different normal equations derived from various synthetic response variables. Maximizing this empirical likelihood ratio yields a maximum empirical likelihood estimator which is asymptotically equivalent to the solution of the estimating equation that are optimal linear combination of the original normal equations. It improves the estimation efficiency. The method is illustrated by some Monte Carlo simulation studies as well as a real example.  相似文献

It is shown that the unbiased estimator of the risk reduction in Stein estimation is unsatisfactory from a mean-squared-error point of view. A truncated form of the unbiased estimator and various empirical Bayes estimators of the risk reduction are shown to perform much better than the unbiased estimator. A simple practical estimator is proposed whose performance is a compromise between that of the truncated and empirical Bayes estimators.  相似文献

This paper considers semiparametric partially linear single-index model with missing responses at random. Imputation approach is developed to estimate the regression coefficients, single-index coefficients and the nonparametric function, respectively. The imputation estimators for the regression coefficients and single-index coefficients are obtained by a stepwise approach. These estimators are shown to be asymptotically normal, and the estimator for the nonparametric function is proved to be asymptotically normal at any fixed point. The bandwidth problem is also considered in this paper, a delete-one cross validation method is used to select the optimal bandwidth. A simulation study is conducted to evaluate the proposed methods.  相似文献
