General linear models with a common design matrix and with various structures of the variance–covariance matrix are considered. We say that a model is perfect for a linearly estimable parametric function, or the function is perfect in the model, if there exists the best linear unbiased estimator. All perfect models for a given function and all perfect functions in a given model are characterized.  相似文献

We consider a multivariate linear model for multivariate controlled calibration, and construct some conservative confidence regions, which are nonempty and invariant under nonsingular transformations. The computation of our confidence region is easier compared to some of the existing procedures. We illustrate the results using two examples. The simulation results show the closeness of the coverage probability of our confidence regions to the assumed confidence level.  相似文献

In this paper we present the construction of robust designs for a possibly misspecified generalized linear regression model when the data are censored. The minimax designs and unbiased designs are found for maximum likelihood estimation in the context of both prediction and extrapolation problems. This paper extends preceding work of robust designs for complete data by incorporating censoring and maximum likelihood estimation. It also broadens former work of robust designs for censored data from others by considering both nonlinearity and much more arbitrary uncertainty in the fitted regression response and by dropping all restrictions on the structure of the regressors. Solutions are derived by a nonsmooth optimization technique analytically and given in full generality. A typical example in accelerated life testing is also demonstrated. We also investigate implementation schemes which are utilized to approximate a robust design having a density. Some exact designs are obtained using an optimal implementation scheme.  相似文献

In recent years various sophisticated methods have been developed for the analysis of repeated measures, or longitudinal data. The more traditional approach, based on a normal likelihood function, has been shown to be unsatisfactory, in the sense of yielding asymptotically biased estimates when the covariance structure is misspecified. More recent methodology, based on generalized linear models and quasi-likelihood estimation, has gained widespread acceptance as 'generalized estimating equations'. However, this also has theoretical problems. In this paper a suggestion is made for improving the asymptotic behaviour of estimators by using the older approach, implemented via Gaussian estimation. The resulting estimating equations include the quasi-score function as one component, so the methodology proposed can be viewed as a combination of Gaussian estimation and generalized estimating equations which has a firmer asymptotic basis than either alone has.  相似文献

In a multivariate mean–variance model, the class of linear score (LS) estimators based on an unbiased linear estimating function is introduced. A special member of this class is the (extended) quasi-score (QS) estimator. It is ‘extended’ in the sense that it comprises the parameters describing the distribution of the regressor variables. It is shown that QS is (asymptotically) most efficient within the class of LS estimators. An application is the multivariate measurement error model, where the parameters describing the regressor distribution are nuisance parameters. A special case is the zero-inflated Poisson model with measurement errors, which can be treated within this framework.  相似文献

The subject of this contribution is to present a survey on new methods for variance component estimation, which appeared in the literature in recent years. Starting from mixed models treated in analysis of variance research work on this field turned over to a more general approach in which the covariance matrix of the vector of observations is assumed to be a unknown linear combination of known symmetric matrices. Much interest has been shown in developing some kinds op optimal estimators for the unknown parameters and most results were obtained for estimators being invariant with respect to a certain group of translations. Therefore we restrict attention to this class of estimates. We will deal with minimum variance unbiased estimators, least squared errors estimators, maximum likelihood estimators. Bayes quadratic estimators and show some relations to the mimimum norm quadratic unbiased estimation principle (MINQUE) introduced by C. R. Rao [20]. We do not mention the original motivation of MINQUE since the otion of minimum norm depends on a measure that is not accepted by all statisticians. Also we do‘nt deal with other approaches like the BAYEsian and fiducial methods which were successfully applied by S. Portnoy [18], P. Rusolph [22], G. C. Tiao, W. Y. Tan [28], M. J. K. Healy [9] and others, although in very special situations, only. Additionally we add some new results and also new insight in the properties of known estimators. We give a new characterization of MINQUE in the class of all estimators, extend explicite expressions for locally optimal quadratic estimators given by C. R. Rao [22] to a slightly more general situation and prove complete class theorems useful for the computation of BAYES quadratic estimators. We also investigate situations in which BAYES quadratic unbiased estimators do'nt change if the distribution of the error terms differ from the normal distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider how to incorporate quantile information to improve estimator efficiency for regression model with missing covariates. We combine the quantile information with least-squares normal equations and construct an unbiased estimating equations (EEs). The lack of smoothness of the objective EEs is overcome by replacing them with smooth approximations. The maximum smoothed empirical likelihood (MSEL) estimators are established based on inverse probability weighted (IPW) smoothed EEs and their asymptotic properties are studied under some regular conditions. Moreover, we develop two novel testing procedures for the underlying model. The finite-sample performance of the proposed methodology is examined by simulation studies. A real example is used to illustrate our methods.  相似文献

Robust estimating equation based on statistical depth   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper the estimating equation is constructed via statistical depth. The obtained estimating equation and parameter estimation have desirable robustness, which attain very high breakdown values close to 1/2. At the same time, the obtained parameter estimation still has ordinary asymptotic behaviours such as asymptotic normality. In particular, the robust quasi likelihood and depth-weighted LSE respectively for nonlinear and linear regression model are introduced. A suggestion for choosing weight function and a method of constructing depth-weighed quasi likelihood equation are given. We consider a regression of yy on xx given by a pair of mean and variance functions with a parameter vector θθ to be estimated that also appears in the distribution of the regressor variable xx. The estimation of θθ is based on an extended quasi-score (QS) function. We show that the QS estimator is optimal within a wide class of estimators based on linear-in-yy unbiased estimating functions. Of special interest is the case where the distribution of xx depends only on a subvector αα of θθ, which may be considered a nuisance parameter. In general, αα must be estimated simultaneously together with the rest of θθ, but there are cases where αα can be pre-estimated. A major application of this model is the classical measurement error model, where the corrected score (CS) estimator is an alternative to the QS estimator. We derive conditions under which the QS estimator is strictly more efficient than the CS estimator.  相似文献

In the normal regresion model, a relation between the notion of estimability of a distribution and the existence of a linear function of the observations with some desired property is studied. Several definitions of estimability are shown to be equivalent.  相似文献

If the form of the distribution of data is unknown, the Bayesian method fails in the parametric inference because there is no posterior distribution of the parameter. In this paper, a theoretical framework of Bayesian likelihood is introduced via the Hilbert space method, which is free of the distributions of data and the parameter. The posterior distribution and posterior score function based on given inner products are defined and, consequently, the quasi posterior distribution and quasi posterior score function are derived, respectively, as the projections of the posterior distribution and posterior score function onto the space spanned by given estimating functions. In the space spanned by data, particularly, an explicit representation for the quasi posterior score function is obtained, which can be derived as a projection of the true posterior score function onto this space. The methods of constructing conservative quasi posterior score and quasi posterior log-likelihood are proposed. Some examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results. As an application, the quasi posterior distribution functions are used to select variables for generalized linear models. It is proved that, for linear models, the variable selections via quasi posterior distribution functions are equivalent to the variable selections via the penalized residual sum of squares or regression sum of squares.  相似文献

Abstract.  A vector-valued estimating function, such as the quasi-score, is typically not the gradient of any objective function. Consequently, an analogue of the likelihood function cannot be unambiguously defined by integrating the estimating function. This paper studies an analogue of the likelihood inference in the framework of optimal estimating functions. We propose a quadratic artificial likelihood function for an optimal estimating function. The objective function is uniquely identified as the potential function from the vector field decomposition by imposing some natural restriction on the divergence-free part. The artificial likelihood function is shown to resemble a genuine likelihood function in a number of respects. A bootstrap version of the artificial likelihood function is also studied, which may be used for selecting a root as an estimate from among multiple roots to an estimating equation.  相似文献

While all nonsequential unbiased estimators of the normal mean have variances which must obey the Cramér-Rao inequality, it is shown that some sequential unbiased estimators do not.  相似文献

Ranked set sampling (RSS) was first proposed by McIntyre [1952. A method for unbiased selective sampling, using ranked sets. Australian J. Agricultural Res. 3, 385–390] as an effective way to estimate the unknown population mean. Chuiv and Sinha [1998. On some aspects of ranked set sampling in parametric estimation. In: Balakrishnan, N., Rao, C.R. (Eds.), Handbook of Statistics, vol. 17. Elsevier, Amsterdam, pp. 337–377] and Chen et al. [2004. Ranked Set Sampling—Theory and Application. Lecture Notes in Statistics, vol. 176. Springer, New York] have provided excellent surveys of RSS and various inferential results based on RSS. In this paper, we use the idea of order statistics from independent and non-identically distributed (INID) random variables to propose ordered ranked set sampling (ORSS) and then develop optimal linear inference based on ORSS. We determine the best linear unbiased estimators based on ORSS (BLUE-ORSS) and show that they are more efficient than BLUE-RSS for the two-parameter exponential, normal and logistic distributions. Although this is not the case for the one-parameter exponential distribution, the relative efficiency of the BLUE-ORSS (to BLUE-RSS) is very close to 1. Furthermore, we compare both BLUE-ORSS and BLUE-RSS with the BLUE based on order statistics from a simple random sample (BLUE-OS). We show that BLUE-ORSS is uniformly better than BLUE-OS, while BLUE-RSS is not as efficient as BLUE-OS for small sample sizes (n<5n<5).  相似文献

Mudholkar and Srivastava [1993. Exponentiated Weibull family for analyzing bathtub failure data. IEEE Trans. Reliability 42, 299–302] introduced three-parameter exponentiated Weibull distribution. Two-parameter exponentiated exponential or generalized exponential distribution is a particular member of the exponentiated Weibull distribution. Generalized exponential distribution has a right skewed unimodal density function and monotone hazard function similar to the density functions and hazard functions of the gamma and Weibull distributions. It is observed that it can be used quite effectively to analyze lifetime data in place of gamma, Weibull and log-normal distributions. The genesis of this model, several properties, different estimation procedures and their properties, estimation of the stress-strength parameter, closeness of this distribution to some of the well-known distribution functions are discussed in this article.  相似文献

The asymptotically best linear unbiased estimate (ABLUE) of the normal mean is discussed. The estimate is based on k selected order statistics chosen from a singly or doubly censored large sample of size n(>k). The coefficients, the asymptotic relative efficiency of the estimate, and the optimum spacing of k real numbers between 0 and 1 which determines the optimum ranks of order statistics, are provided. A comparison between the ABLUE and the iterated maximum likelihood estimate is made.  相似文献

This article investigates the large sample interval mapping method for genetic trait loci (GTL) in a finite non-linear regression mixture model. The general model includes most commonly used kernel functions, such as exponential family mixture, logistic regression mixture and generalized linear mixture models, as special cases. The populations derived from either the backcross or intercross design are considered. In particular, unlike all existing results in the literature in the finite mixture models, the large sample results presented in this paper do not require the boundness condition on the parametric space. Therefore, the large sample theory presented in this article possesses general applicability to the interval mapping method of GTL in genetic research. The limiting null distribution of the likelihood ratio test statistics can be utilized easily to determine the threshold values or p-values required in the interval mapping. The limiting distribution is proved to be free of the parameter values of null model and free of the choice of a kernel function. Extension to the multiple marker interval GTL detection is also discussed. Simulation study results show favorable performance of the asymptotic procedure when sample sizes are moderate.  相似文献

Hartley's test for homogeneity of k normal‐distribution variances is based on the ratio between the maximum sample variance and the minimum sample variance. In this paper, the author uses the same statistic to test for equivalence of k variances. Equivalence is defined in terms of the ratio between the maximum and minimum population variances, and one concludes equivalence when Hartley's ratio is small. Exact critical values for this test are obtained by using an integral expression for the power function and some theoretical results about the power function. These exact critical values are available both when sample sizes are equal and when sample sizes are unequal. One related result in the paper is that Hartley's test for homogeneity of variances is no longer unbiased when the sample sizes are unequal. This paper introduces a median estimator of the logistic regression parameters. It is defined as the classical L1L1-estimator applied to continuous data Z1,…,ZnZ1,,Zn obtained by a statistical smoothing of the original binary logistic regression observations Y1,…,YnY1,,Yn. Consistency and asymptotic normality of this estimator are proved. A method called enhancement is introduced which in some cases increases the efficiency of this estimator. Sensitivity to contaminations and leverage points is studied by simulations and compared in this manner with the sensitivity of some robust estimators previously introduced to the logistic regression. The new estimator appears to be more robust for larger sample sizes and higher levels of contamination.  相似文献
