In a mixture experiment, the response depends on the proportions of the mixing components. Canonical models of different degrees and also other models have been suggested to represent the mean response. Optimum designs for estimation of the parameters of the models have been investigated by different authors. In most cases, the optimum design includes the vertex points of the simplex as support points of the design, which are not mixture combinations in the true non-trivial sense. In this paper, optimum designs have been obtained when the experimental region is an ellipsoidal subspace of the entire factor space which does not cover the vertex points of the simplex.  相似文献

In a mixture experiment, the response depends on the mixing proportions of the components present in the mixture. Optimum designs are available for the estimation of parameters of the models proposed in such situations. However, these designs are found to include the vertex points of the simplex Ξ defining the experimental region, which are not mixtures in the true sense. Recently, Mandal et al. (2015 Mandal, N.K., Pal, M., Sinha, B.K., and Das, P. (2015). Optimum mixture designs in a restricted region. Stat. Optimal designs for estimating the optimum mixing proportions in a quadratic mixture model was first investigated by Pal and Mandal (2006). In this article, similar investigation is carried out when mean response in a mixture experiment is described by a quadratic log contrast model. It is found that in a symmetric subspace of the finite dimensional simplex, there exists a D-optimal design that puts weights at the centroid of the sub-space and the vertices of the experimental domain. The optimality is checked by numerical computation using Equivalence Theorem.  相似文献

In experiments with mixtures involving process variables, orthogonal block designs may be used to allow estimation of the parameters of the mixture components independently of estimation of the parameters of the process variables. In the class of orthogonally blocked designs based on pairs of suitably chosen Latin squares, the optimal designs consist primarily of binary blends of the mixture components, regardless of how many ingredients are available for the mixture. This paper considers ways of modifying these optimal designs so that some or all of the runs used in the experiment include a minimum proportion of each mixture ingredient. The designs considered are nearly optimal in the sense that the experimental points are chosen to follow ridges of maxima in the optimality criteria. Specific designs are discussed for mixtures involving three and four components and distinctions are identified for different designs with the same optimality properties. The ideas presented for these specific designs are readily extended to mixtures with q>4 components.  相似文献

Two interval estimation methods for a general linear function of binomial proportions have been proposed. One method [Zou GY, Huang W, Zhang X. A note on confidence interval estimation for a linear function of binomial proportions. Comput Statist Data Anal. 2009;53:1080–1085] combines Wilson interval estimates of individual proportions, and the other method [Price RM, Bonett DG. An improved confidence interval for a linear function of binomial proportions. Comput Statist Data Anal. 2004;45:449–456] uses an adjusted Wald interval. Both methods are appropriate in varying coefficient meta-analysis models where the risk differences are allowed to vary across studies. The two methods were compared in a simulation study under realistic meta-analysis conditions and the adjusted Wald method was found to have the best performance characteristics.  相似文献

Box and Meyer [1986. Dispersion effects from fractional designs. Since the publication of their paper a number of different procedures (both iterative and non-iterative) have been proposed for estimating the location and dispersion effects. Two types of symmetry can arise when the proportions of mixture components are constrained by upper and lower bounds. These two types of symmetry are shown to be useful for blocking first-order designs, as well as for finding the centroid of the experimental region. Orthogonal blocking of first-order mixture designs provides a method of including process variables in the mixture experiment, with the mixture terms orthogonal to the process factors. Symmetric regions are used to develop spherical and rotatable response surface designs for mixtures. The central composite design and designs based on the icosahedron and the dodecahedron are given for four-component mixtures. The uniform shell designs are three-level designs when applied to mixture experiments.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the estimation of the optimum factor combination in a response surface model. Assuming that the response function is quadratic concave and there is a linear cost constraint on the factor combination, we attempt to find the optimum design using the trace optimality criterion. In this paper, we first consider the entropy estimators introduced by Vasicek [A test for normality based on sample entropy. J R Statist Soc, Ser B. 1976;38:54–59], Ebrahimi et al. [Two measures of sample entropy. Stat Probab Lett. 1994;20:225–234], Yousefzadeh and Arghami [Testing exponentiality based on type II censored data and a new cdf estimator. Commun Stat – Simul Comput. 2008;37:1479–1499], Alizadeh Noughabi and Arghami [A new estimator of entropy. J Iran Statist Soc. 2010;9:53–64], and Zamanzade and Arghami [Goodness-of-fit test based on correcting moments of modified entropy estimator. J Statist Comput Simul. 2011;81:2077–2093], and the nonparametric distribution functions corresponding to them. We next introduce goodness-of-fit test statistics for the Laplace distribution based on the moments of nonparametric distribution functions of the aforementioned estimators. We obtain power estimates of the proposed test statistics with Monte Carlo simulation and compare them with the competing test statistics against various alternatives. We consider a two-component location mixture model with symmetric components, one of which is assumed to be known, the other is unknown. We show identifiability under assumptions on the tails of the characteristic function for the true underlying mixture, and also construct asymptotically normal estimates. The model is an extension of the contamination model in Bordes et al. [Semiparametric estimation of a two-component mixture model when a component is known, Scand. J. Statist. 33 (2006), pp. 733–752], and also related to a location mixture of one symmetric density as in Bordes et al. [Semiparametric estimation of a two component mixture model, Ann. Statist. 34 (2006), pp. 1204–1232]. We show by simulation that estimating the additional location parameter leads to a slight loss of efficiency as compared with the contamination model.  相似文献

The article studies the log-logistic class of dose–response bioassay models in the binomial set-up. The dose is identified by the potency adjusted mixing proportions of two similar compounds. Models for both absence and presence of interaction between the compounds have been considered. The aim is to investigate the D- and Ds-optimal mixture designs for the estimation of the full set of parameters or for the estimation of potency for a best guess of the parameter values. We also indicate how to find the optimal design to estimate the mixing proportions at which the probability of success attains a given value in the absence of the interaction effect.  相似文献

In experiments with mixtures that involve process variables, if the response function is expressed as the sum of a function of mixture components and a function of process variables, then the parameters in the mixture part and in the process part can be estimated independently using orthogonal block designs. This paper is concerned with such a block design for parameter estimation in the mixture part of a quadratic mixture model for three mixture components. The behaviour of the eigenvalues of the moment matrix of the design is investigated in detail, the design is optimized according to E- and Aoptimality criteria, and the results are compared together with a known result on Doptimality. It is found that this block design is robust with respect to these diff erent optimality criteria against the shifting of experimental points. As a result, we recommend experimental points of the form (a, b, c) in the simplex S2, where c=0, b=1-a, and a can be any value in the range 0.17+/-0.02.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the robust estimation for the order of hidden Markov model (HMM) based on a penalized minimum density power divergence estimator, which is obtained by utilizing the finite mixture marginal distribution of HMM. In this paper, we investigate some properties of 2-principal points for location mixtures of spherically symmetric distributions with focus on a linear subspace in which a set of 2-principal points must lie. Our results can be viewed as an extension of those of Yamamoto and Shinozaki [2000. Two principal points for multivariate location mixtures of spherically symmetric distributions. J. Japan Statist. Soc. 30, 53–63], where a finite location mixture of spherically symmetric distributions is treated. As an extension of their paper, this paper defines a wider class of distributions, and derives a linear subspace in which a set of 2-principal points must exist. It is shown that Strawderman's [1974. Minimax estimation of powers of the variance of a normal population under squared error loss. Ann. Statist. 2, 190–198] technique for estimating the variance of a normal distribution can be extended to estimating a general scale parameter in the presence of a nuisance parameter. Employing standard monotone likelihood ratio-type conditions, a new class of improved estimators for this scale parameter is derived under quadratic loss. By imposing an additional condition, a broader class of improved estimators is obtained. The dominating procedures are in form analogous to those in Strawderman [1974. Minimax estimation of powers of the variance of a normal population under squared error loss. Ann. Statist. 2, 190–198]. Application of the general results to the exponential distribution yields new sufficient conditions, other than those of Brewster and Zidek [1974. Improving on equivariant estimators. Ann. Statist. 2, 21–38] and Kubokawa [1994. A unified approach to improving equivariant estimators. Ann. Statist. 22, 290–299], for improving the best affine equivariant estimator of the scale parameter. A class of estimators satisfying the new conditions is constructed. The results shed new light on Strawderman's [1974.
