In this paper, we propose robust randomized quantile regression estimators for the mean and (condition) variance functions of the popular heteroskedastic non parametric regression model. Unlike classical approaches which consider quantile as a fixed quantity, our method treats quantile as a uniformly distributed random variable. Our proposed method can be employed to estimate the error distribution, which could significantly improve prediction results. An automatic bandwidth selection scheme will be discussed. Asymptotic properties and relative efficiencies of the proposed estimators are investigated. Our empirical results show that the proposed estimators work well even for random errors with infinite variances. Various numerical simulations and two real data examples are used to demonstrate our methodologies.  相似文献

A regression model with skew-normal errors provides a useful extension for ordinary normal regression models when the data set under consideration involves asymmetric outcomes. Variable selection is an important issue in all regression analyses, and in this paper, we investigate the simultaneously variable selection in joint location and scale models of the skew-normal distribution. We propose a unified penalized likelihood method which can simultaneously select significant variables in the location and scale models. Furthermore, the proposed variable selection method can simultaneously perform parameter estimation and variable selection in the location and scale models. With appropriate selection of the tuning parameters, we establish the consistency and the oracle property of the regularized estimators. Simulation studies and a real example are used to illustrate the proposed methodologies.  相似文献

MODEL-ASSISTED HIGHER-ORDER CALIBRATION OF ESTIMATORS OF VARIANCE   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In survey sampling, interest often centres on inference for the population total using information about an auxiliary variable. The variance of the estimator used plays a key role in such inference. This study develops a new set of higher‐order constraints for the calibration of estimators of variance for various estimators of the population total. The proposed strategy requires an appropriate model for describing the relationship between the response and auxiliary variable, and the variance of the auxiliary variable. It is therefore referred to as a model‐assisted approach. Several new estimators of variance, including the higher‐order calibration estimators of the variance of the ratio and regression estimators suggested by Singh, Horn & Yu and Sitter & Wu are special cases of the proposed technique. The paper presents and discusses the results of an empirical study to compare the performance of the proposed estimators and existing counterparts.  相似文献

Summary.  The family of inverse regression estimators that was recently proposed by Cook and Ni has proven effective in dimension reduction by transforming the high dimensional predictor vector to its low dimensional projections. We propose a general shrinkage estimation strategy for the entire inverse regression estimation family that is capable of simultaneous dimension reduction and variable selection. We demonstrate that the new estimators achieve consistency in variable selection without requiring any traditional model, meanwhile retaining the root n estimation consistency of the dimension reduction basis. We also show the effectiveness of the new estimators through both simulation and real data analysis.  相似文献

The binary logistic regression is a commonly used statistical method when the outcome variable is dichotomous or binary. The explanatory variables are correlated in some situations of the logit model. This problem is called multicollinearity. It is known that the variance of the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) is inflated in the presence of multicollinearity. Therefore, in this study, we define a new two-parameter ridge estimator for the logistic regression model to decrease the variance and overcome multicollinearity problem. We compare the new estimator to the other well-known estimators by studying their mean squared error (MSE) properties. Moreover, a Monte Carlo simulation is designed to evaluate the performances of the estimators. Finally, a real data application is illustrated to show the applicability of the new method. According to the results of the simulation and real application, the new estimator outperforms the other estimators for all of the situations considered.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to improve the quality of cookies production by classifying them as good or bad from the curves of resistance of dough observed during the kneading process. As the predictor variable is functional, functional classification methodologies such as functional logit regression and functional discriminant analysis are considered. A P-spline approximation of the sample curves is proposed to improve the classification ability of these models and to suitably estimate the relationship between the quality of cookies and the resistance of dough. Inference results on the functional parameters and related odds ratios are obtained using the asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimators under the classical regularity conditions. Finally, the classification results are compared with alternative functional data analysis approaches such as componentwise classification on the logit regression model.  相似文献

The problem of consistent estimation of regression coefficients in a multivariate linear ultrastructural measurement error model is considered in this article when some additional information on regression coefficients is available a priori. Such additional information is expressible in the form of stochastic linear restrictions. Utilizing stochastic restrictions given a priori, some methodologies are presented to obtain the consistent estimators of regression coefficients under two types of additional information separately, viz., covariance matrix of measurement errors and reliability matrix associated with explanatory variables. The measurement errors are assumed to be not necessarily normally distributed. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are derived and analyzed analytically as well as numerically through a Monte Carlo simulation experiment.  相似文献

In this article, a new composite quantile regression estimation approach is proposed for estimating the parametric part of single-index model. We use local linear composite quantile regression (CQR) for estimating the nonparametric part of single-index model (SIM) when the error distribution is symmetrical. The weighted local linear CQR is proposed for estimating the nonparametric part of SIM when the error distribution is asymmetrical. Moreover, a new variable selection procedure is proposed for SIM. Under some regularity conditions, we establish the large sample properties of the proposed estimators. Simulation studies and a real data analysis are presented to illustrate the behavior of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

The binary logistic regression is a widely used statistical method when the dependent variable has two categories. In most of the situations of logistic regression, independent variables are collinear which is called the multicollinearity problem. It is known that multicollinearity affects the variance of maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) negatively. Therefore, this article introduces new shrinkage parameters for the Liu-type estimators in the Liu (2003) in the logistic regression model defined by Huang (2012) in order to decrease the variance and overcome the problem of multicollinearity. A Monte Carlo study is designed to show the goodness of the proposed estimators over MLE in the sense of mean squared error (MSE) and mean absolute error (MAE). Moreover, a real data case is given to demonstrate the advantages of the new shrinkage parameters.  相似文献

We consider the estimation of a regression coefficient in a linear regression when observations are missing due to nonresponse. Response is assumed to be determined by a nonobservable variable which is linearly related to an observable variable. The values of the observable variable are assumed to be available for the whole sample but the variable is not includsd in the regression relationship of interest . Several alternative estimators have been proposed for this situation under various simplifying assumptions. A sampling theory approach provides three alternative estimatrs by considering the observatins as obtained from a sub-sample, selected on the basis of the fully observable variable , as formulated by Nathan and Holt (1980). Under an econometric approach, Heckman (1979) proposed a two-stage (probit and OLS) estimator which is consistent under specificconditions. A simulation comparison of the four estimators and the ordinary least squares estimator , under multivariate normality of all the variables involved, indicates that the econometric approach estimator is not robust to departures from the conditions underlying its derivation, while two of the other estimators exhibit a similar degree of stable performance over a wide range of conditions. Simulations for a non-normal distribution show that gains in performance can be obtained if observations on the independent variable are available for the whole population.  相似文献

Symmetric kernel smoothing is commonly used in estimating the nonparametric component in the partial linear regression models. In this article, we propose a new estimation method for the partial linear regression models using the inverse Gaussian kernel when the explanatory variable of the nonparametric component is non-negatively supported. As an asymmetric kernel function, the inverse Gaussian kernel is also supported on the non-negative half line. The asymptotic properties, including the asymptotic normality, uniform almost sure convergence, and the iterated logarithm laws, of the proposed estimators are thoroughly discussed for both homoscedastic and heteroscedastic cases. The simulation study is conducted to evaluate the finite sample performance of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

Consider a general regression model with an arbitrary and unknown link function and a stochastic selection variable that determines whether the outcome variable is observable or missing. In this article, we present a new efficient iteration estimation approach based on local modal regression for single-index varying-coefficient models. The resulted estimators are shown to be robust with regardless of outliers and error distributions. The asymptotic properties of the estimators are established under some regularity conditions and a practical modified EM algorithm is proposed for the new method. Moreover, to achieve sparse estimator when there exists irrelevant variables in the index parameters, a variable selection procedure based on SCAD penalty is developed to select significant parametric covariates and the well-known oracle properties are also derived. Finally, some numerical examples with various distributed errors and a real data analysis are conducted to illustrate the validity and feasibility of our proposed method.  相似文献

Multiple linear regression models are frequently used in predicting unknown values of the response variable y. In this case, a regression model's ability to produce an adequate prediction equation is of prime importance. This paper discusses the predictive performance of the r-k and r-d class estimators compared to ordinary least squares (OLS), principal components, ridge regression and Liu estimators and between each other. The theoretical results are illustrated using Portland cement data and a region is established where the r-k and the r-d class estimators are uniformly superior to the other mentioned estimators.  相似文献

In this article, we assume that the distribution of the error terms is skew t in two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Skew t distribution is very flexible for modeling the symmetric and the skew datasets, since it reduces to the well-known normal, skew normal, and Student's t distributions. We obtain the estimators of the model parameters by using the maximum likelihood (ML) and the modified maximum likelihood (MML) methodologies. We also propose new test statistics based on these estimators for testing the equality of the treatment and the block means and also the interaction effect. The efficiencies of the ML and the MML estimators and the power values of the test statistics based on them are compared with the corresponding normal theory results via Monte Carlo simulation study. Simulation results show that the proposed methodologies are more preferable. We also show that the test statistics based on the ML estimators are more powerful than the test statistics based on the MML estimators as expected. However, power values of the test statistics based on the MML estimators are very close to the corresponding test statistics based on the ML estimators. At the end of the study, a real life example is given to show the implementation of the proposed methodologies.  相似文献

A regression model is considered in which the response variable has a type 1 extreme-value distribution for smallest values. Bias approximations for the maximum likelihood estimators are pivm and a bias reduction estimator for the scale parameter is proposed. ABSTRACT

The varying-coefficient single-index model (VCSIM) is a very general and flexible tool for exploring the relationship between a response variable and a set of predictors. Popular special cases include single-index models and varying-coefficient models. In order to estimate the index-coefficient and the non parametric varying-coefficients in the VCSIM, we propose a two-stage composite quantile regression estimation procedure, which integrates the local linear smoothing method and the information of quantile regressions at a number of conditional quantiles of the response variable. We establish the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators for the index-coefficient and varying-coefficients when the error is heterogeneous. When compared with the existing mean-regression-based estimation method, our simulation results indicate that our proposed method has comparable performance for normal error and is more robust for error with outliers or heavy tail. We illustrate our methodologies with a real example.  相似文献

The ranked set samples and median ranked set samples in particular have been used extensively in the literature due to many reasons. In some situations, the experimenter may not be able to quantify or measure the response variable due to the high cost of data collection, however it may be easier to rank the subject of interest. The purpose of this article is to study the asymptotic distribution of the parameter estimators of the simple linear regression model. We show that these estimators using median ranked set sampling scheme converge in distribution to the normal distribution under weak conditions. Moreover, we derive large sample confidence intervals for the regression parameters as well as a large sample prediction interval for new observation. Also, we study the properties of these estimators for small sample setup and conduct a simulation study to investigate the behavior of the distributions of the proposed estimators.  相似文献
