In this paper, we focus on stochastic comparisons of extreme order statistics from heterogeneous independent/interdependent Weibull samples. Specifically, we study extreme order statistics from Weibull distributions with (i) common shape parameter but different scale parameters, and (ii) common scale parameter but different shape parameters. Several new comparison results in terms of the likelihood ratio order, reversed hazard rate order and usual stochastic order are studied in those scenarios. The results established here strengthen and generalize some of the results known in the literature including Khaledi and Kochar [Weibull distribution: some stochastic comparisons. J Statist Plann Inference. 2006;136:3121–3129], Fang and Zhang [Stochastic comparisons of series systems with heterogeneous Weibull components. Statist Probab Lett. 2013;83:1649–1653], Torrado [Comparisons of smallest order statistics from Weibull distributions with different scale and shape parameters. J Korean Statist Soc. 2015;44:68–76] and Torrado and Kochar [Stochastic order relations among parallel systems from Weibull distributions. J Appl Probab. 2015;52:102–116]. Some numerical examples are also provided for illustration.  相似文献

The effect of heterogeneity on order statistics has attracted much attention in recent decades. In this paper, we study the skewness of extreme order statistics from heterogeneous samples in the scale models according to star ordering. It is shown that, without any restriction on the scale parameters, the skewness of extreme order statistics from heterogeneous samples is larger than that from homogeneous samples. We further extend this study to the multiple-outlier scale models. Some examples and applications are highlighted as well.  相似文献

In this paper, first we consider the problem of testing that two unknown distributions are identical against the alternative that one is more IFRA than the other and propose a new test that is asymptotically normal and consistent. Next, we prove that beta family of distributions is ordered according to more IFRA ordering. The empirical power of the proposed test is simulated for some specific families of distributions like beta, gamma and Weibull that are ordered with respect to more IFRA order. Finally, we apply our test to some real data sets in the context of reliability.  相似文献

The first two moments and product moments of absolute values of order statistics are obtained for the double exponential and the double Weibull distributions. In both of the distributions an optimum linear unbiased estimator of the scale parameter, by absolute values of the order statistics, is obtained from complete and censored samples of size n=3(1)10. It is found that the new estimator is generally more efficient than the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) of the scale parameter by order statistcs in both of the distributions.  相似文献

Abstract

In extreme value theory for ordinary order statistics, there are many results that characterize the domains of attraction of the three extreme value distributions. In this article, we consider a subclass of generalized order statistics for which also three types of limit distributions occur. We characterize the domains of attraction of these limit distributions by means of necessary and/or sufficient conditions for an underlying distribution function to belong to the respective domain of attraction. Moreover, we compare the domains of attraction of the limit distributions for extreme generalized order statistics with the domains of attraction of the extreme value distributions.  相似文献

Traditionally, the moments of the Weibull distribution have been calculated using the standard Weibull (Johnson and Kotz, 1970) . This article will expand on that idea and cover the truncated cases for the standard Weibull distributions. Also, the same techniques used for the standard form will be used to derive the moment expressions for the three-parameter complete and truncated Weibull distributions. The summary statistics are then calculated from the moment expressions. Weibull moments involve the gamma and incomplete gamma functions.  相似文献

Weibull mixtures have been considered in many applied problems, and they have also been generalized by allowing negative mixing weights. In this paper, we study the classification of the aging properties of generalized mixtures of two or three Weibull distributions in terms of the mixing weights, scale parameters and a common shape parameter, which extends the cases of exponential or Rayleigh distributions. We apply these general results to classify the aging properties of the minimum and maximum lifetimes of two-component systems whose component lifetimes follow one of the known bivariate Weibull distributions.  相似文献

The three-parameter gamma and three-parameter Weibull distributions are commonly used for analysing any lifetime data or skewed data. Both distributions have several desirable properties, and nice physical interpretations. Because of the scale and shape parameters, both have quite a bit of flexibility for analysing different types of lifetime data. They have increasing as well as decreasing hazard rate depending on the shape parameter. Unfortunately both distributions also have certain drawbacks. This paper considers a three-parameter distribution which is a particular case of the exponentiated Weibull distribution originally proposed by Mudholkar, Srivastava & Freimer (1995) when the location parameter is not present. The study examines different properties of this model and observes that this family has some interesting features which are quite similar to those of the gamma family and the Weibull family, and certain distinct properties also. It appears this model can be used as an alternative to the gamma model or the Weibull model in many situations. One dataset is provided where the three-parameter generalized exponential distribution fits better than the three-parameter Weibull distribution or the three-parameter gamma distribution.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper deals with Bayesian estimation and prediction for the inverse Weibull distribution with shape parameter α and scale parameter λ under general progressive censoring. We prove that the posterior conditional density functions of α and λ are both log-concave based on the assumption that λ has a gamma prior distribution and α follows a prior distribution with log-concave density. Then, we present the Gibbs sampling strategy to estimate under squared-error loss any function of the unknown parameter vector (α, λ) and find credible intervals, as well as to obtain prediction intervals for future order statistics. Monte Carlo simulations are given to compare the performance of Bayesian estimators derived via Gibbs sampling with the corresponding maximum likelihood estimators, and a real data analysis is discussed in order to illustrate the proposed procedure. Finally, we extend the developed methodology to other two-parameter distributions, including the Weibull, Burr type XII, and flexible Weibull distributions, and also to general progressive hybrid censoring.  相似文献

In this paper, recurrence relations from a general class of doubly truncated continuous distributions which are satisfied by single as well as product moments of order statistics are obtained. Recurrence relations from doubly truncated generalized Weibull, exponential, Raleigh and logistic distributions have been derived as special cases of our result, Some previous results for doubly truncated Weibull, standard exponential, power function and Burr type XII distributions are obtained as special cases. The general recurrence relation of single moments has been used in the case of the left and right truncation to characterize the Weibull, Burr type XII and Pareto distributions.  相似文献

It is often assumed in situations in which life data from Weibull or extreme-value distributions are involved that data in different samples come from extreme-value distributions with the same scale parameter (equivalently, Weibull distributions with the same shape parameter). This paper proposes a number of tests for homogeneity for extreme-value scale parameters, based on a number of commonly used estimators for these scale parameters. Previous theoretical work and some simulation results provided here indicate that the null distributions of the test statistics proposed are well approximated by the x2 distribution under a wide range of conditions  相似文献

We extend the Weibull power series (WPS) class of distributions to the new class of extended Weibull power series (EWPS) class of distributions. The EWPS distributions are related to series and parallel systems with a random number of components, whereas the WPS distributions [Morais AL, Barreto-Souza W. A compound class of Weibull and power series distributions. Computational Statistics and Data Analysis. 2011;55:1410–1425] are related to series systems only. Unlike the WPS distributions, for which the Weibull is a limiting special case, the Weibull law is a particular case of the EWPS distributions. We prove that the distributions in this class are identifiable under a simple assumption. We also prove stochastic and hazard rate order results and highlight that the shapes of the EWPS distributions are markedly more flexible than the shapes of the WPS distributions. We define a regression model for the EWPS response random variable to model a scale parameter and its quantiles. We present the maximum likelihood estimator and prove its consistency and asymptotic normal distribution. Although series and parallel systems motivated the construction of this class, the EWPS distributions are suitable for modelling a wide range of positive data sets. To illustrate potential uses of this model, we apply it to a real data set on the tensile strength of coconut fibres and present a simple device for diagnostic purposes.  相似文献

In this paper, we study some mathematical properties of the beta Weibull (BW) distribution, which is a quite flexible model in analysing positive data. It contains the Weibull, exponentiated exponential, exponentiated Weibull and beta exponential distributions as special sub-models. We demonstrate that the BW density can be expressed as a mixture of Weibull densities. We provide their moments and two closed-form expressions for their moment-generating function. We examine the asymptotic distributions of the extreme values. Explicit expressions are derived for the mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, reliability and two entropies. The density of the BW-order statistics is a mixture of Weibull densities and two closed-form expressions are derived for their moments. The estimation of the parameters is approached by two methods: moments and maximum likelihood. We compare the performances of the estimates obtained from both the methods by simulation. The expected information matrix is derived. For the first time, we introduce a log-BW regression model to analyse censored data. The usefulness of the BW distribution is illustrated in the analysis of three real data sets.  相似文献

Abstract

We introduce a new family of distributions using truncated discrete Linnik distribution. This family is a rich family of distributions which includes many important families of distributions such as Marshall–Olkin family of distributions, family of distributions generated through truncated negative binomial distribution, family of distributions generated through truncated discrete Mittag–Leffler distribution etc. Some properties of the new family of distributions are derived. A particular case of the family, a five parameter generalization of Weibull distribution, namely discrete Linnik Weibull distribution is given special attention. This distribution is a generalization of many distributions, such as extended exponentiated Weibull, exponentiated Weibull, Weibull truncated negative binomial, generalized exponential truncated negative binomial, Marshall-Olkin extended Weibull, Marshall–Olkin generalized exponential, exponential truncated negative binomial, Marshall–Olkin exponential and generalized exponential. The shape properties, moments, median, distribution of order statistics, stochastic ordering and stress–strength properties of the new generalized Weibull distribution are derived. The unknown parameters of the distribution are estimated using maximum likelihood method. The discrete Linnik Weibull distribution is fitted to a survival time data set and it is shown that the distribution is more appropriate than other competitive models.  相似文献

In this article, two-sample Bayesian prediction intervals of generalized order statistics (GOS) based on multiply Type II censored data are derived. To illustrate these results, the Pareto, Weibull, and Burr-Type XII distributions are used as examples. Finally, a numerical illustration of the sequential order statistics from the Pareto distribution is presented.  相似文献

In this article, the entropies of record value distributions from some continuous probability models are computed and their properties are investigated, both analytically when feasible, and numerically. In an attempt to establish relationships between entropies of the parent and the corresponding record value distributions, the entropies of record value distributions associated with the uniform, exponential, Weibull, classical Pareto, normal, gamma, beta, and Cauchy distributions are considered in this article. The entropy of record value distributions associated with the uniform, exponential, Weibull, and Pareto distributions, have tractable closed forms. The entropies of record value distributions associated with the normal, gamma, beta, and Cauchy distributions do not have tractable closed forms and need further investigations. Some general conclusions are drawn in the final section.  相似文献

A five-parameter extension of the Weibull distribution capable of modelling a bathtub-shaped hazard rate function is introduced and studied. The beauty and importance of the new distribution lies in its ability to model both monotone and non-monotone failure rates that are quite common in lifetime problems and reliability. The proposed distribution has a number of well-known lifetime distributions as special sub-models, such as the Weibull, extreme value, exponentiated Weibull, generalized Rayleigh and modified Weibull (MW) distributions, among others. We obtain quantile and generating functions, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves and reliability. We provide explicit expressions for the density function of the order statistics and their moments. For the first time, we define the log-Kumaraswamy MW regression model to analyse censored data. The method of maximum likelihood is used for estimating the model parameters and the observed information matrix is determined. Two applications illustrate the potentiality of the proposed distribution.  相似文献
