Response to Miccio-Fonseca (2015) and Defeo (2015) Concerning Commentary About DSM-5 Sexual Disorders Section

ABSTRACT

Responses by Miccio-Fonseca (2015) and DeFeo (2015) to a commentary by Ross on problems with the sexual disorders sections of DSM-5 are based on a misunderstanding of Ross’s article (2015a). Miccio-Fonseca and DeFeo describe what they consider to be confusion and misunderstanding in Ross’s opinions about gender, sexuality, and related topics. However, Ross offered no personal opinions in his commentary and was focused solely on inconsistencies and contradictions within DSM-III, DSM-IV, and DSM-5.     

The First (and Only) Year of the May 3 Constitution

Isaak Babel’ is the author of two stories, “Iisusov grekh” [The Sin of Jesus], 1921, and “Pan Apolek,” 1923, that are written in the tradition of menippean satire. These stories are filled with the kind of blasphemy, profanation, and desacrilization Mikhail Bakhtin describes as salient characteristics of menippean satire. “Sin” is a graphic example of the menippean sub-genre of “fantasticheskii rasskaz” [the fantastic tale], and “Apolek” has clear affinities with the ancient genre of “Cyprian’s Supper.”

“Sin” and “Apolek” highlight prominent menippean features that pervade Babel’’s fiction. His Odessa stories are filled with carnivalistic, scandalous, and grotesque motifs that are very much in the menippean spirit. Babel’’s contribution to the menippea is his creation of a multiplicity of different, even conflicting plausible texts within the body of a single story. For Babel’, heretic and blasphemer, menippean satire is the perfect vehicle for expressing his contradictory relationship with the culture he lived in.

A Content Analysis of Quantitative Research in Journal of Marital and Family Therapy: A 10‐Year Review

We examined the trends of quantitative research over the past 10 years in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy (JMFT). Specifically, within the JMFT, we investigated the types and trends of research design and statistical analysis within the quantitative research that was published in JMFT from 2005 to 2014. We found that while the amount of peer‐reviewed articles have increased over time, the percentage of quantitative research has remained constant. We discussed the types and trends of statistical analysis and the implications for clinical work and training programs in the field of marriage and family therapy.
