Anti-drug Activities Held

The China Meets Egypt activity, organized by Beijing Women＇s Federation and the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was held on October 25 in the Haidian Women and Children＇s Activity Center in Beijing. Ma Lanxia, President of Beijing Women＇s Federation （BWF）, Zhou Zhijun, BWF＇s Vice-President, Magdy Amer, Egypt＇s Ambassador to China, and Karima Nasser AI-Saadi, wife of Abdullah Saleh AI-Saadi, the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to China, attended. Nearly 300 people, including students from Egypt and residents in Haidian District, participated.

Looking Back to Make a New Start——The 40th Anniversary of Women of China Magazine

ON June 26, 1996, Women of China held festivities in the International Hotel of Beijing to celebrate the 40th birthday of this English monthly. Chen Muhua, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the All-China Women's Federation, Lei Jieqiong, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the NPC, Ma Yuzhen, Deputy Minister of the Information Office of the State Council and more than 200 female celebrities from all walks of life, as well as some foreign experts in Beijing were present at the celebration. With beautiful pictures and comprehensive reporting, Women of China started publication in 1956, aiming to introduce China and the situation of Chinese women to the outside world. It is my pleasure to be here in Hong Kong at the Beijing ＋ 15 Forum of Status of Women amid the elegance and charm of China＇s Pearl of the Orient, and to have the opportunity to meet and discuss with the women of Hong Kong their good works. As this year marks the 15th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, it is an apt date indeed for the Hong Kong Federation of Women to hold this forum. One hundred years ago, the Second International Socialist Women＇s Conference designated March 8 International Women＇s Day. Since then, March 8 has been a festival for women around the world.     

Campaign to Prevent Breast Cancer Launched in Beijing,Tianjin, Sichuan

To promote healthy living and to raise women＇s awareness of the importance of improving their health, the Women＇s Development Department of the All- China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） launched the long-distance-run campaign, entitled ＂running for health and beauty,＂ in late October. The event, which was held in Beijing, Tianjin Municipality （in North China） and Sichuan Province （in Southwest China）, was also intended to promote the implementation of the cancer-screening project. Thousands of women, who wore pink T-shirts, participated.

The Third National Fitness Activity for Hundreds of Millions of Women was held in Beijing from April 22-24,2007.The event was sponsored by the All-China Women's Federation(ACWF)and the General Administration of Sports of China,and it was organized by the Beijing Women's Federation and the Beijing Sports Bureau.     

2013女性传媒大奖

Ten Chinese women were named ＂Models of the Year＂ during an annual awards ceremony on December 9, 2013, in Beijing. The Women Media Awards ceremony was sponsored by lady. 163.com and the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women （UN- Women）. It was the first event of its kind in China, which has made a commitment to the promotion of gender equality and women＇s progress in various sectors.

T o commemorate the UN Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995, the "10th Anniversary Commemoration of the Fourth World Conference on Women" is going to be held from August 29 to September 1 in Beijing. This grand occasion is co-sponsored by the National Working Committee on Women and Children, All-China Women's Federation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations system in China. Participants will discuss the following issues: women's participation in decision-making and management, women's economic empowerment, women and the poverty eradication, women's human rights and the elimination of violence against women, women and HIV/AIDS, and women and sustainable development.

Song Xiuyan, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All- China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, attended the Sino-Australian Workshop on the Protection of Women＇s Rights and Interests in Beijing on June 11, 2014. The four-day workshop （between June 10 and 13） was hosted by ACWF.     

My Home in Beijing

In 1989 and 1995, Patricia Leuchtman visited China twice to work as a language editor for Women of China, and during her tenure established a profound friendship with Chinese colleagues. Before leaving off for home in America in May this year, Pat wrote a story for Women of China revealing her experiences while living in the Friendship Hotel in Beijing.

The All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and UN Women held a two-day training on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women （CEDAW） in Beijing on August 21-22, 2014. Organizers provided information about CEDAW to promote mainstreaming of gender awareness and the importance of implementing China＇s basic State policy of gender equality.

The ＂Mother An＇xin Project,＂ with the theme ＂Improve women＇s healthcare service,＂ was launched by China Women＇s Development Foundation in the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing, on March 22, 2010. Chert Zhili, Vice-Chairperson of the National People＇s Congress Standing Committee and President of the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, attended the ceremony. Song Xiuyan, Vice-President of the ACWF, delivered a speech during the ceremony. Huang Qingyi, President of China Women＇s Development Foundation （CWDF）, and Zhen Yan, Vice-President of the ACWF, Zhengli Jinfen, Chairwoman of Amway （China） Co. Ltd, attended.

印度妇女组织联合代表团访华

Invited by the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, a six-member delegation of Indian women, headed by Mrs. Gomathi Nair, President of the All India Women＇s Conference, visited Beijing and Shanghai from July 25-31, 2010. It was the first time that the ACWF had invited a non- governmental women＇s delegation from India to visit. During the visit, Meng Xiaosi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women＇s Federation, met members of the delegation. In Beijing, the delegation visited Wuzhou Women＇s Hospital and the grass-roots women＇s federation at Shijia Hutong, in Dongcheng District. In Shanghai, the delegation visited the Employment Promotion Center in Baoshan District. The guests also attended a work-experience- exchange meeting with Baoshan District Women＇s Federation, and they visited a pear orchard, the Shanghai Lilan Fashion Accessories Manufacturing Co., Ltd, and the Expo 2010 Shanghai China.     

Women's Art and Women Artists in Cultural Change

ON March 3rd, 1998, an exhibition titled "Century · Women" drew up its curtain at the China Arts Gallery in Beijing, and attracted a vast number of visitors with its large scale, historical overview, and representation of a great number of painters with various styles. While people strolled in the gallery, a lively forum on the topic of "Visual Angle of Gender: Women's Arts and Women Artists in Cultural Change" was also taking place in Beijing. The purpose of the forum was to corroborate the academic value of the exhibition, as well as to analyze the cultural significance of women's art through the exploration of the history and present situation of Chinese women's art, Over 30 scholars and artists presented speeches on the topic; the audience numbered in the hundreds.
