Xi Replies to Village Official＇s Letter Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China （CPC）, recently replied to Zhang Guangxiu, a college graduate-turned village official, who wrote a letter to Xi in January 2014. In July 2009, Zhang became an official in Lushang, a village in Yantai, in East China＇s Shandong Province. She has worked tirelessly to help villagers escape poverty, despite having been diagnosed with leukemia in September 2010.

Alexis Stokowsky, a Russian businessman, has lived in Ji＇nan, in East China＇s Shandong Province, for more than two years. He has been studying Chinese with Zhang Yingwen, a young Chinese woman. Recently, Stokowsky told Zhang, ＂I have just finished watching the online TV series Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio, which has the same name as the work of Qing Dynasty （1644-1911） novelist Pu Songling.     

Singing Star's School Hugely Popular Across China

AFTER winning an award at the Third National Singers' Contest sponsored by China Central Television in 1988, Hang Tianqi gained star status in China. Hang's attempts at writing lyrics and composing songs is not news but the September 1993 opening of the Tianqi Art School on the compound of the Air Force Political Department's Drama Troupe has given Hang a new chance to display her talents. Today, the first art school in China to be named after a contemporary singing star has become well known across the country. Huge ad campaigns have helped to spread the word about the school, but Hang's name did much to enhance it's fame. Within a year, nearly 20,000 people have enrolled in the school's correspondence courses. The students are located all over
