In this article we study the method of nonparametric regression based on a transformation model, under which an unknown transformation of the survival time is nonlinearly, even more, nonparametrically, related to the covariates with various error distributions, which are parametrically specified with unknown parameters. Local linear approximations and locally weighted least squares are applied to obtain estimators for the effects of covariates with censored observations. We show that the estimators are consistent and asymptotically normal. This transformation model, coupled with local linear approximation techniques, provides many alternatives to the more general proportional hazards models with nonparametric covariates.  相似文献

We consider exact and approximate Bayesian computation in the presence of latent variables or missing data. Specifically we explore the application of a posterior predictive distribution formula derived in Sweeting And Kharroubi (2003), which is a particular form of Laplace approximation, both as an importance function and a proposal distribution. We show that this formula provides a stable importance function for use within poor man’s data augmentation schemes and that it can also be used as a proposal distribution within a Metropolis-Hastings algorithm for models that are not analytically tractable. We illustrate both uses in the case of a censored regression model and a normal hierarchical model, with both normal and Student t distributed random effects. Although the predictive distribution formula is motivated by regular asymptotic theory, it is not necessary that the likelihood has a closed form or that it possesses a local maximum.  相似文献

This article develops an algorithm for estimating parameters of general phase-type (PH) distribution based on Bayes estimation. The idea of Bayes estimation is to regard parameters as random variables, and the posterior distribution of parameters which is updated by the likelihood function provides estimators of parameters. One of the advantages of Bayes estimation is to evaluate uncertainty of estimators. In this article, we propose a fast algorithm for computing posterior distributions approximately, based on variational approximation. We formulate the optimal variational posterior distributions for PH distributions and develop the efficient computation algorithm for the optimal variational posterior distributions of discrete and continuous PH distributions.  相似文献

In this article we propose a novel non-parametric sampling approach to estimate posterior distributions from parameters of interest. Starting from an initial sample over the parameter space, this method makes use of this initial information to form a geometrical structure known as Voronoi tessellation over the whole parameter space. This rough approximation to the posterior distribution provides a way to generate new points from the posterior distribution without any additional costly model evaluations. By using a traditional Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) over the non-parametric tessellation, the initial approximate distribution is refined sequentially. We applied this method to a couple of climate models to show that this hybrid scheme successfully approximates the posterior distribution of the model parameters.  相似文献

In this article, we employ the variational Bayesian method to study the parameter estimation problems of linear regression model, wherein some regressors are of Gaussian distribution with nonzero prior means. We obtain an analytical expression of the posterior parameter distribution, and then propose an iterative algorithm for the model. Simulations are carried out to test the performance of the proposed algorithm, and the simulation results confirm both the effectiveness and the reliability of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

We present an algorithm for multivariate robust Bayesian linear regression with missing data. The iterative algorithm computes an approximative posterior for the model parameters based on the variational Bayes (VB) method. Compared to the EM algorithm, the VB method has the advantage that the variance for the model parameters is also computed directly by the algorithm. We consider three families of Gaussian scale mixture models for the measurements, which include as special cases the multivariate t distribution, the multivariate Laplace distribution, and the contaminated normal model. The observations can contain missing values, assuming that the missing data mechanism can be ignored. A Matlab/Octave implementation of the algorithm is presented and applied to solve three reference examples from the literature.  相似文献

The purpose of the paper is to estimate the parameters of the two-component mixture of Weibull distribution under doubly censored samples using Bayesian approach. The choice of Weibull distribution is made due to its (i) capability to model failure time data from engineering, medical and biological sciences (ii) added advantages over the well-known lifetime distributions such as exponential, Raleigh, lognormal and gamma distribution in terms of flexibility, increasing and decreasing hazard rate and closed-form distribution function and hazard rate. The proposed two-component mixture of Weibull distribution is even more flexible than its conventional form. However, the estimation of the parameters from the proposed mixture is more complex. Further, we have assumed couple of loss functions under non informative prior for the Bayesian analysis of the parameters from the mixture model. As the resultant Bayes estimators and associated posterior risks cannot be derived in the closed form, we have used the importance sampling and Lindley’s approximation to obtain the approximate estimates for the parameters of the mixture model. The comparison between the performances of approximation techniques has been made on the basis of simulation study and real-life data analysis. The importance sampling is found to be better than Lindley’s approximation as it gives better estimation for shape and mixing parameters of the mixture model and computations under this technique are much easier/shorter than those under Lindley’s approximation.  相似文献

We consider the problem of change-point detection in multivariate time-series. The multivariate distribution of the observations is supposed to follow a graphical model, whose graph and parameters are affected by abrupt changes throughout time. We demonstrate that it is possible to perform exact Bayesian inference whenever one considers a simple class of undirected graphs called spanning trees as possible structures. We are then able to integrate on the graph and segmentation spaces at the same time by combining classical dynamic programming with algebraic results pertaining to spanning trees. In particular, we show that quantities such as posterior distributions for change-points or posterior edge probabilities over time can efficiently be obtained. We illustrate our results on both synthetic and experimental data arising from biology and neuroscience.  相似文献

We propose a class of Bayesian semiparametric mixed-effects models; its distinctive feature is the randomness of the grouping of observations, which can be inferred from the data. The model can be viewed under a more natural perspective, as a Bayesian semiparametric regression model on the log-scale; hence, in the original scale, the error is a mixture of Weibull densities mixed on both parameters by a normalized generalized gamma random measure, encompassing the Dirichlet process. As an estimate of the posterior distribution of the clustering of the random-effects parameters, we consider the partition minimizing the posterior expectation of a suitable class of loss functions. As a merely illustrative application of our model we consider a Kevlar fibre lifetime dataset (with censoring). We implement an MCMC scheme, obtaining posterior credibility intervals for the predictive distributions and for the quantiles of the failure times under different stress levels. Compared to a previous parametric Bayesian analysis, we obtain narrower credibility intervals and a better fit to the data. We found that there are three main clusters among the random-effects parameters, in accordance with previous frequentist analysis.  相似文献

We consider estimation of the unknown parameters of Chen distribution [Chen Z. A new two-parameter lifetime distribution with bathtub shape or increasing failure rate function. Statist Probab Lett. 2000;49:155–161] with bathtub shape using progressive-censored samples. We obtain maximum likelihood estimates by making use of an expectation–maximization algorithm. Different Bayes estimates are derived under squared error and balanced squared error loss functions. It is observed that the associated posterior distribution appears in an intractable form. So we have used an approximation method to compute these estimates. A Metropolis–Hasting algorithm is also proposed and some more approximate Bayes estimates are obtained. Asymptotic confidence interval is constructed using observed Fisher information matrix. Bootstrap intervals are proposed as well. Sample generated from MH algorithm are further used in the construction of HPD intervals. Finally, we have obtained prediction intervals and estimates for future observations in one- and two-sample situations. A numerical study is conducted to compare the performance of proposed methods using simulations. Finally, we analyse real data sets for illustration purposes.  相似文献

Discrete choice models describe the choices made by decision makers among alternatives and play an important role in transportation planning, marketing research and other applications. The mixed multinomial logit (MMNL) model is a popular discrete choice model that captures heterogeneity in the preferences of decision makers through random coefficients. While Markov chain Monte Carlo methods provide the Bayesian analogue to classical procedures for estimating MMNL models, computations can be prohibitively expensive for large datasets. Approximate inference can be obtained using variational methods at a lower computational cost with competitive accuracy. In this paper, we develop variational methods for estimating MMNL models that allow random coefficients to be correlated in the posterior and can be extended easily to large-scale datasets. We explore three alternatives: (1) Laplace variational inference, (2) nonconjugate variational message passing and (3) stochastic linear regression. Their performances are compared using real and simulated data. To accelerate convergence for large datasets, we develop stochastic variational inference for MMNL models using each of the above alternatives. Stochastic variational inference allows data to be processed in minibatches by optimizing global variational parameters using stochastic gradient approximation. A novel strategy for increasing minibatch sizes adaptively within stochastic variational inference is proposed.  相似文献

We present a method for using posterior samples produced by the computer program BUGS (Bayesian inference Using Gibbs Sampling) to obtain approximate profile likelihood functions of parameters or functions of parameters in directed graphical models with incomplete data. The method can also be used to approximate integrated likelihood functions. It is easily implemented and it performs a good approximation. The profile likelihood represents an aspect of the parameter uncertainty which does not depend on the specification of prior distributions, and it can be used as a worthwhile supplement to BUGS that enable us to do both Bayesian and likelihood based analyses in directed graphical models.  相似文献

The general mixed linear model, containing both the fixed and random effects, is considered. Using gamma priors for the variance components, the conditional posterior distributions of the fixed effects and the variance components, conditional on the random effects, are obtained. Using the normal approximation for the multiple t distribution, approximations are obtained for the posterior distributions of the variance components in infinite series form. The same approximation Is used to obtain closed expressions for the moments of the variance components. We consider the problem of estimating the quantiles of a distribution function in a fixed design regression model in which the observations are subject to random right censoring. The quantile estimator is defined via a conditional Kaplan-Meier type estimator for the distribution at a given design point. We establish an a.s. asymptotic representation for this quantile estimator, from which we obtain its asymptotic normality. Because a complicated estimation procedure is necessary for estimating the asymptotic bias and variance, we use a resampling procedure, which provides us, via an asymptotic representation for the bootstrapped estimator, with an alternative for the normal approximation.  相似文献

Bivariate count data arise in several different disciplines (epidemiology, marketing, sports statistics just to name a few) and the bivariate Poisson distribution being a generalization of the Poisson distribution plays an important role in modelling such data. In the present paper we present a Bayesian estimation approach for the parameters of the bivariate Poisson model and provide the posterior distributions in closed forms. It is shown that the joint posterior distributions are finite mixtures of conditionally independent gamma distributions for which their full form can be easily deduced by a recursively updating scheme. Thus, the need of applying computationally demanding MCMC schemes for Bayesian inference in such models will be removed, since direct sampling from the posterior will become available, even in cases where the posterior distribution of functions of the parameters is not available in closed form. In addition, we define a class of prior distributions that possess an interesting conjugacy property which extends the typical notion of conjugacy, in the sense that both prior and posteriors belong to the same family of finite mixture models but with different number of components. Extension to certain other models including multivariate models or models with other marginal distributions are discussed.  相似文献

Semiparametric regression models that use spline basis functions with penalization have graphical model representations. This link is more powerful than previously established mixed model representations of semiparametric regression, as a larger class of models can be accommodated. Complications such as missingness and measurement error are more naturally handled within the graphical model architecture. Directed acyclic graphs, also known as Bayesian networks, play a prominent role. Graphical model-based Bayesian 'inference engines', such as bugs and vibes , facilitate fitting and inference. Underlying these are Markov chain Monte Carlo schemes and recent developments in variational approximation theory and methodology.  相似文献

In this paper, we adopt the Bayesian approach to expectile regression employing a likelihood function that is based on an asymmetric normal distribution. We demonstrate that improper uniform priors for the unknown model parameters yield a proper joint posterior. Three simulated data sets were generated to evaluate the proposed method which show that Bayesian expectile regression performs well and has different characteristics comparing with Bayesian quantile regression. We also apply this approach into two real data analysis.  相似文献

For the first time, we introduce a generalized form of the exponentiated generalized gamma distribution [Cordeiro et al. The exponentiated generalized gamma distribution with application to lifetime data, J. Statist. Comput. Simul. 81 (2011), pp. 827–842.] that is the baseline for the log-exponentiated generalized gamma regression model. The new distribution can accommodate increasing, decreasing, bathtub- and unimodal-shaped hazard functions. A second advantage is that it includes classical distributions reported in the lifetime literature as special cases. We obtain explicit expressions for the moments of the baseline distribution of the new regression model. The proposed model can be applied to censored data since it includes as sub-models several widely known regression models. It therefore can be used more effectively in the analysis of survival data. We obtain maximum likelihood estimates for the model parameters by considering censored data. We show that our extended regression model is very useful by means of two applications to real data.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a Bayesian mixture model that allows us to integrate out the weights of the mixture in order to obtain a procedure in which the number of clusters is an unknown quantity. To determine clusters and estimate parameters of interest, we develop an MCMC algorithm denominated by sequential data-driven allocation sampler. In this algorithm, a single observation has a non-null probability to create a new cluster and a set of observations may create a new cluster through the split-merge movements. The split-merge movements are developed using a sequential allocation procedure based in allocation probabilities that are calculated according to the Kullback–Leibler divergence between the posterior distribution using the observations previously allocated and the posterior distribution including a ‘new’ observation. We verified the performance of the proposed algorithm on the simulated data and then we illustrate its use on three publicly available real data sets.  相似文献
