In this paper we discuss the recursive (or on line) estimation in (i) regression and (ii) autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) time series models. The adopted approach uses Kalman filtering techniques to calculate estimates recursively. This approach is used for the estimation of constant as well as time varying parameters. In the first section of the paper we consider the linear regression model. We discuss recursive estimation both for constant and time varying parameters. For constant parameters, Kalman filtering specializes to recursive least squares. In general, we allow the parameters to vary according to an autoregressive integrated moving average process and update the parameter estimates recursively. Since the stochastic model for the parameter changes will "be rarely known, simplifying assumptions have to be made. In particular we assume a random walk model for the time varying parameters and show how to determine whether the parameters are changing over time. This is illustrated with an example.  相似文献

Estimation by nonlinear regression of the parameters for the stationary and invertible autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model with mixing or martingale difference errors is considered. Simple proofs of consistency and asymptotic normality for the nonlinear least squares estimator are given by exploiting results from nonlinear estimation theory and mixing and mixingale theory.  相似文献

In this paper, a penalized weighted composite quantile regression estimation procedure is proposed to estimate unknown regression parameters and autoregression coefficients in the linear regression model with heavy-tailed autoregressive errors. Under some conditions, we show that the proposed estimator possesses the oracle properties. In addition, we introduce an iterative algorithm to achieve the proposed optimization problem, and use a data-driven method to choose the tuning parameters. Simulation studies demonstrate that the proposed new estimation method is robust and works much better than the least squares based method when there are outliers in the dataset or the autoregressive error distribution follows heavy-tailed distributions. Moreover, the proposed estimator works comparably to the least squares based estimator when there are no outliers and the error is normal. Finally, we apply the proposed methodology to analyze the electricity demand dataset.  相似文献

Some simple methods for the estimation of mixed multivariate autoregressive moving average time series models are introduced. The methods require the fitting of a long autoregression to the data and the computation of consistent initial estimates for the parameters of the model. After these preliminaries the estimators of the paper are obtained by applying weighted least squares to a multivariate auxiliary regression model. Two types of weight matrices are considered. Both of them yield estimators which are strongly consistent and asymptotically normally distributed. The first estimators are also asymptotically efficient while the second ones are not fully efficient but computationally simple. A simulation study is performed to illustrate the behaviour of the estimators in finite samples.  相似文献

The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (lasso) has been widely used in regression analysis. Based on the piecewise linear property of the solution path, least angle regression provides an efficient algorithm for computing the solution paths of lasso. Group lasso is an important generalization of lasso that can be applied to regression with grouped variables. However, the solution path of group lasso is not piecewise linear and hence cannot be obtained by least angle regression. By transforming the problem into a system of differential equations, we develop an algorithm for efficient computation of group lasso solution paths. Simulation studies are conducted for comparing the proposed algorithm to the best existing algorithm: the groupwise-majorization-descent algorithm.  相似文献

We investigate whether seasonal-adjustment procedures are, at least approximately, linear data transformations. This question was initially addressed by Young and is important with respect to many issues including estimation of regression models with seasonally adjusted data. We focus on the X-11 program and rely on simulation evidence, involving linear unobserved component autoregressive integrated moving average models. We define a set of properties for the adequacy of a linear approximation to a seasonal-adjustment filter. These properties are examined through statistical tests. Next, we study the effect of X-11 seasonal adjustment on regression statistics assessing the statistical significance of the relationship between economic variables. Several empirical results involving economic data are also reported.  相似文献

This article considers the adaptive lasso procedure for the accelerated failure time model with multiple covariates based on weighted least squares method, which uses Kaplan-Meier weights to account for censoring. The adaptive lasso method can complete the variable selection and model estimation simultaneously. Under some mild conditions, the estimator is shown to have sparse and oracle properties. We use Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) for tuning parameter selection, and a bootstrap variance approach for standard error. Simulation studies and two real data examples are carried out to investigate the performance of the proposed method.  相似文献

This paper examines the use of the t-statistic in the Geweke–Porter-Hudak regression for the estimation of the fractional differencing parameter as a test for cointegration. The critical values of the test statistic are estimated using Monte Carlo methods. The results confirm that the test will over-reject the null hypothesis of no cointegration if the standard-normal critical values are used. The estimated critical values are generally robust to the nuisance parameters in the autoregressive or moving average specification of the error process of the component time series. Exceptions occur when the dependent variable in the cointegration regression follows an autoregressive process with a large positive parameter or a moving average process with a large negative parameter.  相似文献

In this article, we first propose the modified Hannan–Rissanen Method for estimating the parameters of autoregressive moving average (ARMA) process with symmetric stable noise and symmetric stable generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic (GARCH) noise. Next, we propose the modified empirical characteristic function method for the estimation of GARCH parameters with symmetric stable noise. Further, we show the efficiency, accuracy and simplicity of our methods with Monte-Carlo simulation. Finally, we apply our proposed methods to model the financial data.  相似文献

To perform regression analysis in high dimensions, lasso or ridge estimation are a common choice. However, it has been shown that these methods are not robust to outliers. Therefore, alternatives as penalized M-estimation or the sparse least trimmed squares (LTS) estimator have been proposed. The robustness of these regression methods can be measured with the influence function. It quantifies the effect of infinitesimal perturbations in the data. Furthermore, it can be used to compute the asymptotic variance and the mean-squared error (MSE). In this paper we compute the influence function, the asymptotic variance and the MSE for penalized M-estimators and the sparse LTS estimator. The asymptotic biasedness of the estimators make the calculations non-standard. We show that only M-estimators with a loss function with a bounded derivative are robust against regression outliers. In particular, the lasso has an unbounded influence function.  相似文献

One of the standard variable selection procedures in multiple linear regression is to use a penalisation technique in least‐squares (LS) analysis. In this setting, many different types of penalties have been introduced to achieve variable selection. It is well known that LS analysis is sensitive to outliers, and consequently outliers can present serious problems for the classical variable selection procedures. Since rank‐based procedures have desirable robustness properties compared to LS procedures, we propose a rank‐based adaptive lasso‐type penalised regression estimator and a corresponding variable selection procedure for linear regression models. The proposed estimator and variable selection procedure are robust against outliers in both response and predictor space. Furthermore, since rank regression can yield unstable estimators in the presence of multicollinearity, in order to provide inference that is robust against multicollinearity, we adjust the penalty term in the adaptive lasso function by incorporating the standard errors of the rank estimator. The theoretical properties of the proposed procedures are established and their performances are investigated by means of simulations. Finally, the estimator and variable selection procedure are applied to the Plasma Beta‐Carotene Level data set.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a new forecasting algorithm for value-at-risk (VaR) based on ARMA–GARCH (autoregressive moving average–generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic) models whose innovations follow a Gaussian mixture distribution. For the parameter estimation, we employ the conditional least squares and quasi-maximum-likelihood estimator (QMLE) for ARMA and GARCH parameters, respectively. In particular, Gaussian mixture parameters are estimated based on the residuals obtained from the QMLE of GARCH parameters. Our algorithm provides a handy methodology, spending much less time in calculation than the existing resampling and bias-correction method developed in Hartz et al. [Accurate value-at-risk forecasting based on the normal-GARCH model, Comput. Stat. Data Anal. 50 (2006), pp. 3032–3052]. Through a simulation study and a real-data analysis, it is shown that our method provides an accurate VaR prediction.  相似文献

The paper considers a class of spatial correlation models (stationary Gaussian processes) which includes (spatial) conditional autoregressive, simultaneous autoregressive, moving average and direct covariance models. Given observations on a finite rectangular lattice, a likelihood approximation for estimating the parameters in the spectral density of the model is discussed. The approximation consists of applying the trapezoidal rule, with a her grid of frequencies than the usual Fourier frequencies, to compute the integral in an appraximation due to Whittle (1954) and later modified by Guyon (1984). With this approximation, a Fisher scoring type algorithm has a simple form and in some casea reduces to iteratively reweighted least squares. Methods for computing the unbiased two-dimensional periodogram required by the method are presented and the accuracy of the approximation is discussed. The asymptotic distribution of the parameter estimates computed from the likelihood approximation is also given.  相似文献

The main objective of this paper is to develop convenient Bayesian techniques for estimation and forecasting which can be used to analyze multiple (multivariate) autoregressive moving average processes. Based on the conditional likelihood function and the least squares estimates of the residuals, the marginal posterior distribution of the coefficients of the model is approximated by a matrix t distribution, the marginal posterior distribution of the precision matrix is approximated by a Wishart distribution, and the predictive distribution is approximated by a multivariate t distribution. Some numerical examples are given to demonstrate the idea of using the proposed techniques to analyze different types of multiple ARMA models.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A variable selection procedure based on least absolute deviation (LAD) estimation and adaptive lasso (LAD-Lasso for short) is proposed for median regression models with doubly censored data. The proposed procedure can select significant variables and estimate the parameters simultaneously, and the resulting estimators enjoy the oracle property. Simulation results show that the proposed method works well.  相似文献

This paper proposes a novel estimation of coefficients in single-index regression models. Unlike the traditional average derivative estimation [Powell JL, Stock JH, Stoker TM. Semiparametric estimation of index coefficients. Econometrica. 1989;57(6):1403–1430; Hardle W, Thomas M. Investigating smooth multiple regression by the method of average derivatives. J Amer Statist Assoc. 1989;84(408):986–995] and semiparametric least squares estimation [Ichimura H. Semiparametric least squares (sls) and weighted sls estimation of single-index models. J Econometrics. 1993;58(1):71–120; Hardle W, Hall P, Ichimura H. Optimal smoothing in single-index models. Ann Statist. 1993;21(1):157–178], the procedure developed in this paper is to estimate the coefficients directly by minimizing the mean variation function and does not involve estimating the link function nonparametrically. As a result, it avoids the selection of the bandwidth or the number of knots, and its implementation is more robust and easier. The resultant estimator is shown to be consistent. Numerical results and real data analysis also show that the proposed procedure is more applicable against model free assumptions.  相似文献

Least absolute deviation regression is applied using a fixed number of points for all values of the index to estimate the index and scale parameter of the stable distribution using regression methods based on the empirical characteristic function. The recognized fixed number of points estimation procedure uses ten points in the interval zero to one, and least squares estimation. It is shown that using the more robust least absolute regression based on iteratively re-weighted least squares outperforms the least squares procedure with respect to bias and also mean square error in smaller samples.  相似文献

THE AUTOREGRESSIVE MOVING AVERAGE MODEL FOR SPATIAL ANALYSIS   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A two dimensional autoregressive moving average spatial model is used to analyse spatial interaction. Maximum likelihood estimates of the unknown parameters are derived as the solution of a system of nonlinear equations, and are shown to be best asymptotic normal. One important computational procedure is discussed. The argument is extended to the general regression model with autoregressive moving average residuals. Explicit computational formulae are given.  相似文献
