This article investigates power and size of some tests for exogeneity of a binary explanatory variable in count models by conducting extensive Monte Carlo simulations. The tests under consideration are Hausman contrast tests as well as univariate Wald tests, including a new test of notably easy implementation. Performance of the tests is explored under misspecification of the underlying model and under different conditions regarding the instruments. The results indicate that often the tests that are simpler to estimate outperform tests that are more demanding. This is especially the case for the new test.  相似文献

It has been a long history for testing whether the underlying distribution belongs to a particular one or a parametric class of distributions. In this paper, we propose some empirical likelihood ratio tests via estimating equations. The proposed new tests allow one to add more relevant constraints so as to improve the powers. A simulation study shows the effectiveness of the new tests. The new method is then used to test employer size and market value distributions of US firms.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new measure of fit which can be used in the case of quantile–quantile plots. This measure, when applied to Small's and Srivastava's graphical methods provides two new tests for assessing multivariate normality. For different sample sizes and numbers of variables, the critical values of these tests were evaluated via simulations. The power of the new tests and its comparison with some other tests for multivariate normality are presented herein.  相似文献

Christensen & Lin ( 2015 ) suggested two lack of fit tests to assess the adequacy of a linear model based on partial sums of residuals. In particular, their tests evaluated the adequacy of the mean function. Their tests relied on asymptotic results without requiring small sample normality. We propose four new tests, find their asymptotic distributions, and propose an alternative simulation method for defining tests that is remarkably robust to the distribution of the errors. To assess their strengths and weaknesses, the Christensen & Lin ( 2015 ) tests and the new tests were compared in different scenarios by simulation. In particular, the new tests include two based on partial sums of absolute residuals. Previous partial sums of residuals tests have used signed residuals whose values when summed can cancel each other out. The use of absolute residuals requires small sample normality, but allows detection of lack of fit that was previously not possible with partial sums of residuals.  相似文献

We propose new two andk-sample tests for evaluating the equality of survival distributions against alternatives that include crossing of survival functions, and proportional and monotone hazard ratios. The tests allow for right censored data. The asymptotic power against local alternatives is investigated. Simulation results demonstrate that the new tests are more powerful than known tests when survival functions cross. We apply the tests to a well known study of chemo- and radio-therapy conducted by the Gastrointestinal Tumor Study Group. TheP-values for both proposed tests are much smaller than for other known tests.  相似文献

Data Driven Rank Test for Two-Sample Problem   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Traditional linear rank tests are known to possess low power for large spectrum of alternatives. In this paper we introduce a new rank test possessing a considerably larger range of sensitivity than linear rank tests. The new test statistic is a sum of squares of some linear rank statistics while the number of summands is chosen via a data-based selection rule. Simulations show that the new test possesses high and stable power in situations when linear rank tests completely break down, while simultaneously it has almost the same power under alternatives which can be detected by standard linear rank tests. Our approach is illustrated by some practical examples. Theoretical support is given by deriving asymptotic null distribution of the test statistic and proving consistency of the new test under essentially any alternative.  相似文献

Powerful goodness-of-fit tests based on the likelihood ratio   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Summary. A new approach of parameterization is proposed to construct a general goodness-of-fit test. It can not only generate traditional tests (including the Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Cramér–von Mises and Anderson–Darling tests) but also produce new types of omnibus tests, which are generally much more powerful than the old ones.  相似文献

The Rayleigh, Ajne, Giné and two new tests of uniformity of directions are investigated as tests for multivariate normality when the population mean vector and covariance matrix are assumed to be unknown. The new tests include one which is designed especially to detect for bimodal alternatives and one which is designed to perform well under a wide variety of alternatives. Simulated percentile points are obtained under the assumption that the variates constitute a random sample from a multivariate normal distribution. Powers of the five tests are compared under alternatives in the bivariate as well as higher dimensional settings.  相似文献

As a measure of certainty, informational energy has been used in many statistical problems. In this article, we introduce some estimators of this quantity by modifying the basic estimator available in the literature. The new measures are then used to develop tests of uniformity. A Monte Carlo simulation study is performed to evaluate power behavior of the proposed tests. The results confirm the preference of the new tests in some situations.  相似文献

It is shown that if a binary regression function is increasing then retrospective sampling induces a stochastic ordering of the covariate distributions among the responders, which we call cases, and the non-responders, which we call controls. We also show that if the covariate distributions are stochastically ordered then the regression function must be increasing. This means that testing whether the regression function is monotone is equivalent to testing whether the covariate distributions are stochastically ordered. Capitalizing on these new probabilistic observations we proceed to develop two new non-parametric tests for stochastic order. The new tests are based on either the maximally selected, or integrated, chi-bar statistic of order one. The tests are easy to compute and interpret and their large sampling distributions are easily found. Numerical comparisons show that they compare favorably with existing methods in both small and large samples. We emphasize that the new tests are applicable to any testing problem involving two stochastically ordered distributions.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The problem of detecting any differences between the distributions of two populations is addressed within the non parametric permutation framework of combined tests. Combined testing has been very useful to address the location, the scale, and the location/scale problems. The aim of the paper is to see whether combined testing is useful also for the general two-sample problem. The framework of combined testing for the general two-sample problem is presented and some tests are proposed. These tests are valid even when a non random sample of units is randomized into two groups. Type 1 error rate and power characteristics of the new tests are investigated and compared to former tests. It is shown that the new tests compare favorably with the former ones. An application to a very important socioeconomic problem is discussed.  相似文献

We propose a family of goodness-of-fit tests for copulas. The tests use generalizations of the information matrix (IM) equality of White and so relate to the copula test proposed by Huang and Prokhorov. The idea is that eigenspectrum-based statements of the IM equality reduce the degrees of freedom of the test’s asymptotic distribution and lead to better size-power properties, even in high dimensions. The gains are especially pronounced for vine copulas, where additional benefits come from simplifications of score functions and the Hessian. We derive the asymptotic distribution of the generalized tests, accounting for the nonparametric estimation of the marginals and apply a parametric bootstrap procedure, valid when asymptotic critical values are inaccurate. In Monte Carlo simulations, we study the behavior of the new tests, compare them with several Cramer–von Mises type tests and confirm the desired properties of the new tests in high dimensions.  相似文献

A new class of statistical tests for uniformity based on sample ranges is proposed to detect a uniform density contaminated by a density with one or more high peaks. These kinds of alternatives occur quite frequently, especially in physics. It is shown that the proposed tests arc consistent and have high Pitman asymptotic relative efficiencies. Results of a Monte Carlo power study indicate that they, compared with other tests of uniformity, possess good power properties.A comparative study of various tests is also conducted using real data. An effcient algorithm for computing out test statistic and a table of percentage points are given, providing a practical guide for using the new test.  相似文献

A new rank test family is proposed to test the equality of two multivariate failure times distributions with censored observations. The tests are very simple: they are based on a transformation of the multivariate rank vectors to a univariate rank score and the resulting statistics belong to the familiar class of the weighted logrank test statistics. The new procedure is also applicable to multivariate observations in general, such as repeated measures, some of which may be missing. To investigate the performance of the proposed tests, a simulation study was conducted with bivariate exponential models for various censoring rates. The size and power of these tests against Lehmann alternatives were compared to the size and power of two other tests (Wei and Lachin, 1984 and Wei and Knuiman, 1987). In all simulations the new procedures provide a relatively good power and an accurate control over the size of the test. A real example from the National Cooperative Gallstone Study is given  相似文献

In this article, two new consistent estimators are introduced of Shannon's entropy that compares root of mean-square error with other estimators. Then we define new tests for normality based on these new estimators. Finally, by simulation, the powers of the proposed tests are compared under different alternatives with other entropy tests for normality.  相似文献

This paper presents a method of customizing goodness-of-fit tests that transforms the empirical distribution function in such a way as to create tests for certain alternatives. Using the @ , g transform described in Blom(1958), one can create non-parametric tests for an assortment of alternative distributions. As examples, three new ( f , g )-corrected Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests for goodness-of-fit are discussed. One of these tests is powerful for testing whether or not the data come from an alternative that is heavier in the tails. Another test identifies whether or not the data come from an alternative which is heavier in the middle of the distribution. The last test identifies if the data come from an alternative in which the first or third quartile is far from the corresponding quartile of the hypothesized distribution. The behavior of the three new tests is investigated through a power study.  相似文献

In randomized complete block designs, a monotonic relationship among treatment groups may already be established from prior information, e.g., a study with different dose levels of a drug. The test statistic developed by Page and another from Jonckheere and Terpstra are two unweighted rank based tests used to detect ordered alternatives when the assumptions in the traditional two-way analysis of variance are not satisfied. We consider a new weighted rank based test by utilizing a weight for each subject based on the sample variance in computing the new test statistic. The new weighted rank based test is compared with the two commonly used unweighted tests with regard to power under various conditions. The weighted test is generally more powerful than the two unweighted tests when the number of treatment groups is small to moderate.  相似文献

In this paper we derive some new tests for goodness-of-fit based on Rubin's empirical distribution function (EDF). Substituting Rubin's EDF for the classical EDF in the Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Cramér–von Mises, Anderson–Darling statistics, since Rubin's EDF for a given sample is a randomized distribution function, randomized statistics are derived, of which the qth quantile and the expectation are chosen as test statistics. We show that the new tests are consistent under simple hypothesis. Several power comparisons are also performed to show that the new tests are generally more powerful than the classical ones.  相似文献

For estimating unit roots of autoregressive processes, we introduce a new instrumental variable (IV) method which discounts large values of regressors corresponding to the unit roots. Based on the IV estimator, we propose new unit root tests whose limiting null distributions are standard normal. Observation at time t is adjusted for mean recursively by the sample mean of observations up to the time t. The powers of the proposed tests are better than those of the Dickey–Fuller tests and are comparable to those of the tests based on the weighted symmetric estimator, which are known to have the best power against stationary alternatives.  相似文献

We develop two tests sensitive to various departures from composite goodness-of-fit hypothesis of normality. The tests are based on the sums of squares of some components naturally arising in decomposition of the Shapiro–Wilk-type statistic. Each component itself has diagnostic properties. The numbers of squared components in sums are determined via some novel selection rules based on the data. The new solutions prove to be effective tools in detecting a broad spectrum of sources of non-Gaussianity. We also discuss two variants of the new tests adjusted to verification of simple goodness-of-fit hypothesis of normality. These variants also compare well to popular competitors.  相似文献
