Let (X, Y) be a bivariate random vector with joint distribution function FX, Y(x, y) = C(F(x), G(y)), where C is a copula and F and G are marginal distributions of X and Y, respectively. Suppose that (Xi, Yi), i = 1, 2, …, n is a random sample from (X, Y) but we are able to observe only the data consisting of those pairs (Xi, Yi) for which Xi ? Yi. We denote such pairs as (X*i, Yi*), i = 1, 2, …, ν, where ν is a random variable. The main problem of interest is to express the distribution function FX, Y(x, y) and marginal distributions F and G with the distribution function of observed random variables X* and Y*. It is shown that if X and Y are exchangeable with marginal distribution function F, then F can be uniquely determined by the distributions of X* and Y*. It is also shown that if X and Y are independent and absolutely continuous, then F and G can be expressed through the distribution functions of X* and Y* and the stress–strength reliability P{X ? Y}. This allows also to estimate P{X ? Y} with the truncated observations (X*i, Yi*). The copula of bivariate random vector (X*, Y*) is also derived.  相似文献

Some examples of steep, reproductive exponential models are considered. These models are shown to possess a τ-parallel foliation in the terminology of Barndorff-Nielsen and Blaesild. The independence of certain functions follows directly from the foliation. Suppose X(t) is a Wiener process with drift where X(t) = W(t) + ct, 0 < t < T. Furthermore let Y = max [X(s), 0 < s < T]. The joint density of Y and X = X(T), the end value, is studied within the framework of an exponential model, and it is shown that Y(Y – X) is independent of X. It is further shown that Y(Y – X) suitably scaled has an exponential distribution. Further examples are considered by randomizing on T.  相似文献

Exact expressions for the cumulative distribution function of a random variable of the form ( α 1 X 1+ α 2 X 2)/ Y are given where X 1, X 2 and Y are independent chi-squared random variables. The expressions are applied to the detection of joint outliers and Hotelling's mis-specified T 2 distribution.  相似文献

Consider a population of individuals who are free of a disease under study, and who are exposed simultaneously at random exposure levels, say X,Y,Z,… to several risk factors which are suspected to cause the disease in the populationm. At any specified levels X=x, Y=y, Z=z, …, the incidence rate of the disease in the population ot risk is given by the exposure–response relationship r(x,y,z,…) = P(disease|x,y,z,…). The present paper examines the relationship between the joint distribution of the exposure variables X,Y,Z, … in the population at risk and the joint distribution of the exposure variables U,V,W,… among cases under the linear and the exponential risk models. It is proven that under the exponential risk model, these two joint distributions belong to the same family of multivariate probability distributions, possibly with different parameters values. For example, if the exposure variables in the population at risk have jointly a multivariate normal distribution, so do the exposure variables among cases; if the former variables have jointly a multinomial distribution, so do the latter. More generally, it is demonstrated that if the joint distribution of the exposure variables in the population at risk belongs to the exponential family of multivariate probability distributions, so does the joint distribution of exposure variables among cases. If the epidemiologist can specify the differnce among the mean exposure levels in the case and control groups which are considered to be clinically or etiologically important in the study, the results of the present paper may be used to make sample size determinations for the case–control study, corresponding to specified protection levels, i.e., size α and 1–β of a statistical test. The multivariate normal, the multinomial, the negative multinomial and Fisher's multivariate logarithmic series exposure distributions are used to illustrate our results.  相似文献

Let Xw and Yw be weighted random variables arising from the distribution of (X,Y). We explore implications of independence of X and Y on the dependence structure of (Xw, Yw). We also show that when X and Y are independent and the weight function is symmetric, identical distribution of Xw and Yw implies that of X and Y. We discuss application of these results to the study of a renewal process.  相似文献

Recursion relations suitable for rapid computation are derived for the cumulative distribution of F′ = (X/m)/(Y/n) where X is χ2(λ, m) and Y is independently χ2(n). When n is even no complicated function evaluations are needed. For n odd, a special doubly noncentral t distribution is needed to start the computation. Series representations for this t distribution are given with rigorous bounds on truncation errors. Proper recursion techniques for numerical evaluation of the special functions are given.  相似文献

Many techniques have been proposed for measuring the degree of association between a pair of random variables X and Y. However, the measures often suffer from two drawbacks: they are difficult to calculate when the joint distribution of (X, Y) is known, and difficult to estimate when the joint distribution is unknown. In the present paper we present two modifications of a measure proposed by Griffiths (1972), and show that they exhibit neither of these deficiencies.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) have a (p+q)-dimensional normal distribution and let C, K be convex symmetric sets of dimensions p, q respectively. Under certain restrictions on the mean vector it is shown that P(X ε C, Y ε K) is a monotonically increasing function of the first canonical correlation coefficient between X and Y, provided the remaining coefficients are zero.  相似文献

In the competing risks set up with two dependent competing risks, the joint distribution of (X1,X2), the latent lifetimes of the system under the two risks, is not identifiable on the basis of the distribution of the actual observation (T, δ) where T = min(X1, X2) and δ = I(T=X1), Using Peterson's (1976) bounds, we have obtained conservative pointwise as well as simultaneous confidence bounds for the unidentifiable joint survival function. In an example we evaluate the confidence bounds and Indicate where the estimated joint survival function in the independent case, lies within them.  相似文献

Let X, Y and Z be independent random variables with common unknown distribution F. Using the Dirichlet process prior for F and squared erro loss function, the Bayes and empirical Bayes estimators of the parameters λ(F). the probability that Z > X + Y, are derived. The limiting Bayes estimator of λ(F) under some conditions on the parameter of the process is shown to be asymptotically normal. The aysmptotic optimality of the empirical Bayes estimator of λ(F) is established. When X, Y and Z have support on the positive real line, these results are derived for randomly right censored data. This problem relates to testing whether than used discussed by Hollander and Proshcan (1972) and Chen, Hollander and Langberg (1983).  相似文献

Bivariate uniform distributions with dependent components are readily derived by distribution function transformations of the components of non-uniform dependent continuous bivariate random variables (X,Y). Contour plots of joint density functions show the various, and varying, forms of dependence which can arise from different distributional forms for (X,Y) and aids the choice of bivariate uniform distributions as empirical models.  相似文献

The relationship Y = RX between two random variables X and Y, where R is distributed independently of X in (0, l), is known to have important consequences in different fields such as income distribution analysis, Inventory decision models, etc.

In this paper it is shown that when X and Y are discrete random variables, relationships of similar nature lead to Yule-type distributions. The implications of the results are studied in connection with problems of income underreporting and inventory decision making.  相似文献

The first known bivariate distribution with gamma and beta marginals is introduced. Various representations are derived for its joint probability density function (pdf), joint cumulative distribution function (cdf), product moments, conditional pdfs, conditional cdfs, conditional moments, joint moment generating function, joint characteristic function and entropies. The method of maximum likelihood and the method of moments are used to derive the associated estimation procedures as well as the Fisher information matrix, variance–covariance matrix and the profile likelihood confidence intervals. An application to drought data from Nebraska is provided. Some other applications are also discussed. Finally, an extension of the bivariate distribution to the multivariate case is proposed.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the problem of estimating P[X>Y] when X and Y are independent exponential random variables and the sample from each population contains one spurious observation. The estimates ate derived for exchangeable, identifiable and censored models and their performances are evaluated numerically.  相似文献

Troutt (1991,1993) proposed the idea of the vertical density representation (VDR) based on Box-Millar method. Kotz, Fang and Liang (1997) provided a systematic study on the multivariate vertical density representation (MVDR). Suppose that we want to generate a random vector X[d]Rnthat has a density function ?(x). The key point of using the MVDR is to generate the uniform distribution on [D]?(v) = {x :?(x) = v} for any v > 0 which is the surface in RnIn this paper we use the conditional distribution method to generate the uniform distribution on a domain or on some surface and based on it we proposed an alternative version of the MVDR(type 2 MVDR), by which one can transfer the problem of generating a random vector X with given density f to one of generating (X, Xn+i) that follows the uniform distribution on a region in Rn+1defined by ?. Several examples indicate that the proposed method is quite practical.  相似文献

Suppose that {( X n , Y n )} is a sequence of pairs of cector-valued stochastic variables which converges weakly to ( X , Y ), and that { y n } converges to y . Sufficient conditions for the conditional distribution of X n given Y = y are given in terms of stochastic monotonicity. Conditions, which guarantee that also moments of the conditional distributions converge to the moments of the ones of the limit, are also derived.  相似文献

The well-known Meixner class (Meixner, 1934) of probabilities on R has been extended recently to R d (Pommeret, 1996). This generalized Meixner class corresponds to the simple quadratic natural exponential families characterized by Casalis (1996). Following Lancaster (1975), the present paper offers a characterization of the joint probability of a randomvector ( X, Y ) such that the two variables X and Y on R d belong to the multidimensional Meixner class and fulfil a bi-orthogonality condition involving orthogonal polynomials. The joint probabilities, called Lancaster probabilities, are characterized by two sequences of orthogonal polynomials with respect to the margins and a sequence of expectations of products. Some multivariate probabilities are studied, namely the Poisson-Gaussian and the gamma-Gaussian.  相似文献

Non-parametric Regression with Dependent Censored Data   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Abstract.  Let ( X i , Y i ) ( i = 1 ,…, n ) be n replications of a random vector ( X , Y  ), where Y is supposed to be subject to random right censoring. The data ( X i , Y i ) are assumed to come from a stationary α -mixing process. We consider the problem of estimating the function m ( x ) = E ( φ ( Y ) |  X = x ), for some known transformation φ . This problem is approached in the following way: first, we introduce a transformed variable     , that is not subject to censoring and satisfies the relation     , and then we estimate m ( x ) by applying local linear regression techniques. As a by-product, we obtain a general result on the uniform rate of convergence of kernel type estimators of functionals of an unknown distribution function, under strong mixing assumptions.  相似文献

In a relapse clinical trial patients who have recovered from some recurrent disease (e.g.,ulcer or cancer) are examined at a number of predetermined times. A relapse can be detected either at one of these planned inspections or at a spontaneous visit initiated by the patient because of symptoms. In the first case the observations of the time to relapse, X, is interval-censored by two predetermined time-points. In the second case the upper endpoint of the interval is an observation of the time to symptoms,Y . To model the progression of the disease we use a partially observable Markov process. This approach results in a bivariate phase-type distribution for the joint distribution of (X,Y). It is a flexible model which contains several natural distributions for X, and allows the conditional distributions of the marginals to smoothly depend on each other. To estimate the distributions involved we develop an EM-algorithm. The estimation procedure is evaluated and compared with a non-parametric method in a couple of examples based on simulated data.  相似文献

The joint survival function of the latent lifetimes in the dependent competing risks set up is nonidentifiable from the joint probability distribution of the observation (failure time, cause of failure). This paper concentrates on the hazard gradients associated with the joint survival function, for which we provide bounds in the general dependent case and improve these in case the type of dependence (e.g., RTI, RCSI, etc.) is known. This leads to bounds on net (marginal) hazard rates in terms of cause-specific hazard rates which are identifiable. The problem of estimation of these bounds is discussed at the end.  相似文献
