In this paper, we introduce a new family of transmuted distributions, the cubic rank transmutation map distribution. This new proposal increases the flexibility of the transmuted distributions enabling the modelling of more complex data such as ones possessing bimodal hazard rates. In order to illustrate the usefulness of the cubic rank transmutation map, we use two well-known lifetime distributions, namely the Weibull and log-logistic models. Several mathematical properties of these new distributions, namely the cubic rank transmuted Weibull distribution and the cubic rank transmuted log-logistic distribution, are derived. Then, the maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters is described. A simulation study designed to assess the properties of this estimation procedure is then carried out. Finally, applications of the proposed models and their fit are illustrated with some datasets and the corresponding diagnostic analyses are also provided.  相似文献

Abstract

A class of multivariate laws as an extension of univariate Weibull distribution is presented. A well known representation of the asymmetric univariate Laplace distribution is used as the starting point. This new family of distributions exhibits some similarities to the multivariate normal distribution. Properties of this class of distributions are explored including moments, correlations, densities and simulation algorithms. The distribution is applied to model bivariate exchange rate data. The fit of the proposed model seems remarkably good. Parameters are estimated and a bootstrap study performed to assess the accuracy of the estimators.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we provide conditions under which some bivariate dependence structures are preserved under bivariate weighted distributions. Bivariate weighted distributions whose dependence structure is the same as the original distribution are characterized. Finally, we discuss some examples to show the usefulness of our results.  相似文献

Assuming that the random vectors X 1 and X 2 have independent bivariate Poisson distributions, the conditional distribution of X 1 given X 1?+?X 2?=?n is obtained. The conditional distribution turns out to be a finite mixture of distributions involving univariate binomial distributions and the mixing proportions are based on a bivariate Poisson (BVP) distribution. The result is used to establish two properties of a bivariate Poisson stochastic process which are the bivariate extensions of the properties for a Poisson process given by Karlin, S. and Taylor, H. M. (1975). A First Course in Stochastic Processes, Academic Press, New York.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A bivariate distribution, whose marginal distributions are truncated Poisson distributions, is developed as a product of truncated Poisson distributions and a multiplicative factor. The multiplicative factor takes into account the correlation, either positive or negative, between the two random variables. The distributional properties of this model are studied and the model is fitted to a real life bivariate data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Elsewhere, I have promoted (univariate continuous) “transformation of scale” (ToS) distributions having densities of the form 2g?1(x)) where g is a symmetric distribution and Π is a transformation function with a special property. Here, I develop bivariate (readily multivariate) ToS distributions. Univariate ToS distributions have a transformation of random variable relationship with Azzalini-type skew-symmetric distributions; the bivariate ToS distribution here arises from marginal variable transformation of a particular form of bivariate skew-symmetric distribution. Examples are given, as are basic properties—unimodality, a covariance property, random variate generation—and connections with a bivariate inverse Gaussian distribution are pointed out.  相似文献

In this article, we investigate the potential usefulness of the three-parameter transmuted Weibull distribution for modeling survival data. The main advantage of this distribution is that it has increasing, decreasing or constant instantaneous failure rate depending on the shape parameter and the new transmuting parameter. We obtain several mathematical properties of the transmuted Weibull distribution such as the expressions for the quantile function, moments, geometric mean, harmonic mean, Shannon, Rényi and q-entropies, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, and the moments of order statistics. We propose a location-scale regression model based on the log-transmuted Weibull distribution for modeling lifetime data. Applications to two real datasets are given to illustrate the flexibility and potentiality of the transmuted Weibull family of lifetime distributions.  相似文献

Abstract

Motivated by Caginalp and Caginalp [Physica A—Statistical Mechanics and Its Applications, 499, 2018, 457–471], we derive the exact distribution of X/Y conditioned on X?>?0, Y?>?0 for more than ten classes of distributions, including the bivariate t, bivariate Cauchy, bivariate Lomax, Arnold and Strauss’ bivariate exponential, Balakrishna and Shiji’s bivariate exponential, Mohsin et al.’s bivariate exponential, Morgenstern type bivariate exponential, bivariate gamma exponential and bivariate alpha skew normal distributions. The results can be useful in finance and other areas.  相似文献

Abstract

In this note, through ratio of independent random variables, new families of univariate and bivariate skew-t distributions are introduced. Probability density function for each skew-t distribution will be given. We also derive explicit forms of moments of the univariate skew-t distribution and recurrence relations for its cumulative distribution function. Finally we illustrate the flexibility of this class of distributions with applications to a simulated data and the volcanos heights data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Recently it is observed that the inverse Weibull (IW) distribution can be used quite effectively to analyse lifetime data in one dimension. The main aim of this paper is to define a bivariate inverse Weibull (BIW) distribution so that the marginals have IW distributions. It is observed that the joint probability density function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in compact forms. Several properties of this distribution such as marginals, conditional distributions and product moments have been discussed. We obtained the maximum likelihood estimates for the unknown parameters of this distribution and their approximate variance– covariance matrix. We perform some simulations to see the performances of the maximum likelihood estimators. One data set has been re-analysed and it is observed that the bivariate IW distribution provides a better fit than the bivariate exponential distribution.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper considers a class of absolutely continuous bivariate exponential distributions whose univariate margins are the ordinary exponential distributions. We study different mathematical properties of the proposed model. The estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood is discussed. Application is made to a real data example to illustrate the flexibility of theproposed distribution for data analysis.  相似文献

Friday and Patil bivariate exponential (FPBVE) distribution family is one of the most flexible bivariate exponential distributions in the literature; among others, it contains the bivariate exponential models due to Freund, Marshall–Olkin, Block–Basu, and Proschan–Sullo as particular cases. In this article, we discuss the stochastic aging of the maximum statistic from FPBVE model in according to the log-concavity of its density function, i.e., in the increasing or decreasing likelihood ratio classes (ILR or DLR), and consequently in the IFR and DFR classes. Furthermore, a kind of DFR distributions which are not DLR is derived from our classification.  相似文献

In this paper, we shall develop a novel family of bimodal univariate distributions (also allowing for unimodal shapes) and demonstrate its use utilizing the well-known and almost classical data set involving durations and waiting times of eruptions of the Old-Faithful geyser in Yellowstone park. Specifically, we shall analyze the Old-Faithful data set with 272 data points provided in Dekking et al. [3]. In the process, we develop a bivariate distribution using a copula technique and compare its fit to a mixture of bivariate normal distributions also fitted to the same bivariate data set. We believe the fit-analysis and comparison is primarily illustrative from an educational perspective for distribution theory modelers, since in the process a variety of statistical techniques are demonstrated. We do not claim one model as preferred over the other.  相似文献

Replacing one of the two marginal distributions in a bivariate normal by a family of symmetrical distributions, we obtain a new family of symmetric bivariate distributions. We use the Tiku - Suresh (1990) method to estimate the parameters of this new bivariate family. We define a Hotelling - type statistic to test the mean vector and evaluate the asymptotic power of this statistic relative to the Hotelling T2 statistic. We show that the former is considerably more powerful.  相似文献

In this article, we consider a family of bivariate distributions which includes the well-known Morgenstern family of bivariate distributions as its subclass. We identify some properties of concomitants of order statistics which characterize this generalized class of distributions. An application of the characterization result in modeling a bivariate distribution to a data is also explained.  相似文献

The classical bivariate F distribution arises from ratios of chi-squared random variables with common denominators. A consequent disadvantage is that its univariate F marginal distributions have one degree of freedom parameter in common. In this paper, we add a further independent chi-squared random variable to the denominator of one of the ratios and explore the extended bivariate F distribution, with marginals on arbitrary degrees of freedom, that results. Transformations linking F, beta and skew t distributions are then applied componentwise to produce bivariate beta and skew t distributions which also afford marginal (beta and skew t) distributions with arbitrary parameter values. We explore a variety of properties of these distributions and give an example of a potential application of the bivariate beta distribution in Bayesian analysis.  相似文献

We introduce an absolutely continuous bivariate generalization of the Topp–Leone distribution, which is a special member of the proportional reversed hazard family using a one-parameter bivariate exchangeable distribution. We show that a copula approach could also be used in defining the bivariate Topp–Leone distribution. The marginal distributions of the new bivariate distribution have also Topp–Leone distributions. We study its distributional and dependence properties. We estimate the parameters by maximum-likelihood procedure, perform a simulation study on the estimators, and apply them to a real data set. Furthermore, we give a way of generating bivariate distributions using the proposed distribution.  相似文献

The Laplace distribution is considered as a better choice for modeling whenever data exhibit high kurtosis and heavier tails than Gaussian tails. Even though this is the case, not much work has been done on bivariate Laplace distribution. In this work, we introduce and study a new class of bivariate distributions called bivariate semi α-Laplace distribution, containing bivariate Laplace distributions. Three characterizations of bivariate semi α-Laplace distribution are obtained. Relation with bivariate semi stable distribution is established. An autoregressive model with bivariate semi α-Laplace marginal distributions is developed.  相似文献

Abstract

We construct a new bivariate mixture of negative binomial distributions which represents over-dispersed data more efficiently. This is an extension of a univariate mixture of beta and negative binomial distributions. Characteristics of this joint distribution are studied including conditional distributions. Some properties of the correlation coefficient are explored. We demonstrate the applicability of our proposed model by fitting to three real data sets with correlated count data. A comparison is made with some previously used models to show the effectiveness of the new model.  相似文献

We discuss properties of the bivariate family of distributions introduced by Sarmanov (1966). It is shown that correlation coefficients of this family of distributions have wider range than those of the Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern distributins. Possible applications of this family of bivariate distributions as prior distributins in Bayesian inference are discussed. The density of the bivariate Sarmanov distributions with beta marginals can be expressed as a linear combination of products of independent beta densities. This pseudoconjugate property greatly reduces the complexity of posterior computations when this bivariate beta distribution is used as a prior. Multivariate extensions are derived.  相似文献
