This is a survey of characterizations of discrete distributions via properties of record values. Characterization results based on records and weak records are presented. Then the concepts of kth records, strong kth records, and weak kth records are recalled. In the present paper, we discuss algorithms of generation of weak records. These generation algorithms are based on two different methods. In the case, when the inverse function for the underlying distribution function can be obtained explicitly, the corresponding generation algorithms are built on the inverse-transform method. In the case, when the inverse function cannot be obtained explicitly, the algorithms are based on the rejection method. Generation algorithms of our paper are supplied with illustrative examples.  相似文献

We describe a method of determining upper bounds on the variances of linear combinations of the kth records values from i.i.d. sequences, expressed in terms of variances of parent distributions. We also present conditions for which the bounds are sharp, and those for which the respective lower ones are equal to zero. In this paper we study the property of linearity of backward regression for non-adjacent records. In the case of weak records, a characterization of the geometric distribution is obtained. We consider the problem of the unique identification of discrete probability distributions by the single regression function of non-adjacent discrete weak record values. We present a new approach to this problem and we show that the uniqueness of the characterization is equivalent to the uniqueness of solution to a corresponding difference equation or an appropriate system of difference equations. Under the framework of multivariate regular variation, we obtain the asymptotic ratio between the tail distortion risk measure for portfolio loss and the sum of value-at-risk for single loss by a different method from the one in Zhu and Li when the confidence level tends to one. The coefficient of variation (CV) can be used as an index of reliability of measurement. The lognormal distribution has been applied to fit data in many fields. We developed approximate interval estimation of the ratio of two coefficients of variation (CsV) for lognormal distributions by using the Wald-type, Fieller-type, log methods, and method of variance estimates recovery (MOVER). The simulation studies show that empirical coverage rates of the methods are satisfactorily close to a nominal coverage rate for medium sample sizes.  相似文献

For the simple linear functional relationship model with replication, the asymptotic properties of the ordinary (OLS) and grouping least squares (GRLS) estimator of the slope are investi- gated under the assumption of normally distributed errors with unknown covariance matrix. The relative performance of the OLS and GRLS estimator is compared in terms of the asymptotic mean square error, and a set of critical parameters are identified for determining the dominance of one estimator over the other. It is also shown that the GRLS estimator is asymptoticallyequivalent to the maximum likelihood (ML) estimator under the given assumptions.  相似文献
