In this article, Bayesian approach is applied to estimate the parameters of Log-logistic distribution under reference prior and Jeffreys’ prior. The reference prior is derived and it is found that the reference prior is also a second-order matching priors as for the case of any parameter of interest. The Bayesian estimators cannot be obtained in explicit forms. Metropolis within Gibbs sampling algorithm is used to obtain the Bayesian estimators. The Bayesian estimates are compared with the maximum likelihood estimates via simulation study. A real dataset is considered for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

This article considers the objective Bayesian testing in the normal regression models with first-order autoregressive residuals. We propose some solutions based on a Bayesian model selection procedure to this problem where no subjective input is considered. We construct the proper priors for testing the autocorrelation coefficient based on measures of divergence between competing models, which is called the divergence-based (DB) priors and then propose the objective Bayesian decision-theoretic rule, which is called the Bayesian reference criterion (BRC). Finally, we derive the intrinsic test statistic for testing the autocorrelation coefficient. The behavior of the Bayes factor-based DB priors is examined by comparing with the BRC in a simulation study and an example.  相似文献

This paper considers the multiple comparisons problem for normal variances. We propose a solution based on a Bayesian model selection procedure to this problem in which no subjective input is considered. We construct the intrinsic and fractional priors for which the Bayes factors and model selection probabilities are well defined. The posterior probability of each model is used as a model selection tool. The behaviour of these Bayes factors is compared with the Bayesian information criterion of Schwarz and some frequentist tests.  相似文献

An “overall objective” prior proposed for the multinomial model is shown to be inadequate in the presence of zero counts. An earlier proposed reference prior for when interest is in a particular category suffers from similar problems. It is argued that there is no need to deviate from the uniform prior proposed by Jeffreys, for which links with a non-Bayesian approach, when prediction is of interest, are shown.  相似文献

The focus of this paper is objective priors for spatially correlated data with nugget effects. In addition to the Jeffreys priors and commonly used reference priors, two types of “exact” reference priors are derived based on improper marginal likelihoods. An “equivalence” theorem is developed in the sense that the expectation of any function of the score functions of the marginal likelihood function can be taken under marginal likelihoods. Abstract. We propose an objective Bayesian method for the comparison of all Gaussian directed acyclic graphical models defined on a given set of variables. The method, which is based on the notion of fractional Bayes factor (BF), requires a single default (typically improper) prior on the space of unconstrained covariance matrices, together with a prior sample size hyper‐parameter, which can be set to its minimal value. We show that our approach produces genuine BFs. The implied prior on the concentration matrix of any complete graph is a data‐dependent Wishart distribution, and this in turn guarantees that Markov equivalent graphs are scored with the same marginal likelihood. We specialize our results to the smaller class of Gaussian decomposable undirected graphical models and show that in this case they coincide with those recently obtained using limiting versions of hyper‐inverse Wishart distributions as priors on the graph‐constrained covariance matrices.  相似文献

In animal digestibility the proportion of degraded food along the time has usually been modeled as a normal random variable with mean a function of the time and the following three parameters: the proportion of degraded food almost instantaneously, remaining proportion of food to be degraded, and velocity of degradation. The estimation of these parameters has been carried out mainly from a frequentist viewpoint by using the asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator. This may give inadmissible estimates, such as values outside of the range of the parameters. This drawback could not appear if a Bayesian approach were adopted. In this article an objective Bayesian analysis is developed and illustrated on real and simulated data.  相似文献

We develop reference analysis for matrix-variate dynamic models with unknown observation covariance matrices. Bayesian algorithms for forecasting, estimation, and filtering are derived. This work extends the existing theory of reference analysis for univariate dynamic linear models, and thus it proposes a solution to the specification of the prior distributions for a very wide class of time series models. Subclasses of our models include the widely used multivariate and matrix-variate regression models.  相似文献

Abstract.  An optimal Bayesian decision procedure for testing hypothesis in normal linear models based on intrinsic model posterior probabilities is considered. It is proven that these posterior probabilities are simple functions of the classical F -statistic, thus the evaluation of the procedure can be carried out analytically through the frequentist analysis of the posterior probability of the null. An asymptotic analysis proves that, under mild conditions on the design matrix, the procedure is consistent. For any testing hypothesis it is also seen that there is a one-to-one mapping – which we call calibration curve – between the posterior probability of the null hypothesis and the classical bi p -value. This curve adds substantial knowledge about the possible discrepancies between the Bayesian and the p -value measures of evidence for testing hypothesis. It permits a better understanding of the serious difficulties that are encountered in linear models for interpreting the p -values. A specific illustration of the variable selection problem is given.  相似文献

In classical Bayesian inference the prior is treated as fixed and its effects are ignored asymptotically, and useful information, if any, is wasted. However, in practice often an informative prior is summarized from previous similar or the same kind of studies, which contains useful cumulative information for the current study. We treat such prior to be non-fixed, i.e., we give the data sizes in the prior studies similar status as the that of the current dataset. Under this formulation, the prior is asymptotically non-negligible, and its original information is transferred to the new study. We explore some basic properties of Bayesian estimators under such prior formulation, and illustrate the method via simulation.  相似文献

In most software reliability models which utilize the nonhomogeneous Poisson process (NHPP), the intensity function for the counting process is usually assumed to be continuous and monotone. However, on account of various practical reasons, there may exist some change points in the intensity function and thus the assumption of continuous and monotone intensity function may be unrealistic in many real situations. In this article, the Bayesian change-point approach using beta-mixtures for modeling the intensity function with possible change points is proposed. The hidden Markov model with non constant transition probabilities is applied to the beta-mixture for detecting the change points of the parameters. The estimation and interpretation of the model is illustrated using the Naval Tactical Data System (NTDS) data. The proposed change point model will be also compared with the competing models via marginal likelihood. It can be seen that the proposed model has the highest marginal likelihood and outperforms the competing models.  相似文献

The author shows how geostatistical data that contain measurement errors can be analyzed objectively by a Bayesian approach using Gaussian random fields. He proposes a reference prior and two versions of Jeffreys' prior for the model parameters. He studies the propriety and the existence of moments for the resulting posteriors. He also establishes the existence of the mean and variance of the predictive distributions based on these default priors. His reference prior derives from a representation of the integrated likelihood that is particularly convenient for computation and analysis. He further shows that these default priors are not very sensitive to some aspects of the design and model, and that they have good frequentist properties. Finally, he uses a data set of carbon/nitrogen ratios from an agricultural field to illustrate his approach.  相似文献

In this article, we investigate the propertiesof the posterior distribution under the uniform improper priorfor two commonly used proportional hazards models; the Weibullregression model and the extreme value regression model. We allowthe observations to be right censored. We obtain sufficient conditionsfor the existence of the posterior moment generating functionof the regression coefficients. It has long been asserted that in univariate location-scale models, when concerned with inference for either the location or scale parameter, the use of the inverse of the scale parameter as a Bayesian prior yields posterior credible sets that have exactly the correct frequentist confidence set interpretation. This claim dates to at least Peers, and has subsequently been noted by various authors, with varying degrees of justification. We present a simple, direct demonstration of the exact matching property of the posterior credible sets derived under use of this prior in the univariate location-scale model. This is done by establishing an equivalence between the conditional frequentist and posterior densities of the pivotal quantities on which conditional frequentist inferences are based.  相似文献

The test of variance components of possibly correlated random effects in generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs) can be used to examine if there exists heterogeneous effects. The Bayesian test with Bayes factors offers a flexible method. In this article, we focus on the performance of Bayesian tests under three reference priors and a conjugate prior: an approximate uniform shrinkage prior, modified approximate Jeffreys' prior, half-normal unit information prior and Wishart prior. To compute Bayes factors, we propose a hybrid approximation approach combining a simulated version of Laplace's method and importance sampling techniques to test the variance components in GLMMs.  相似文献

We present an algorithm for multivariate robust Bayesian linear regression with missing data. The iterative algorithm computes an approximative posterior for the model parameters based on the variational Bayes (VB) method. Compared to the EM algorithm, the VB method has the advantage that the variance for the model parameters is also computed directly by the algorithm. We consider three families of Gaussian scale mixture models for the measurements, which include as special cases the multivariate t distribution, the multivariate Laplace distribution, and the contaminated normal model. The observations can contain missing values, assuming that the missing data mechanism can be ignored. A Matlab/Octave implementation of the algorithm is presented and applied to solve three reference examples from the literature.  相似文献

The Weibull distribution is widely used due to its versatility and relative simplicity. In our paper, the non informative priors for the ratio of the scale parameters of two Weibull models are provided. The asymptotic matching of coverage probabilities of Bayesian credible intervals is considered, with the corresponding frequentist coverage probabilities. We developed the various priors for the ratio of two scale parameters using the following matching criteria: quantile matching, matching of distribution function, highest posterior density matching, and inversion of test statistics. One particular prior, which meets all the matching criteria, is found. Next, we derive the reference priors for groups of ordering. We see that all the reference priors satisfy a first-order matching criterion and that the one-at-a-time reference prior is a second-order matching prior. Abstract.  Bayesian survival analysis of right-censored survival data is studied using priors on Bernstein polynomials and Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. These priors easily take into consideration geometric information like convexity or initial guess on the cumulative hazard functions, select only smooth functions, can have large enough support, and can be easily specified and generated. Certain frequentist asymptotic properties of the posterior distribution are established. Simulation studies indicate that these Bayes methods are quite satisfactory.  相似文献

The Generalized gamma (GG) distribution plays an important role in statistical analysis. For this distribution, we derive non-informative priors using formal rules, such as Jeffreys prior, maximal data information prior and reference priors. We have shown that these most popular formal rules with natural ordering of parameters, lead to priors with improper posteriors. This problem is overcome by considering a prior averaging approach discussed in Berger et al. [Overall objective priors. Bayesian Analysis. 2015;10(1):189–221]. The obtained hybrid Jeffreys-reference prior is invariant under one-to-one transformations and yields a proper posterior distribution. We obtained good frequentist properties of the proposed prior using a detailed simulation study. Finally, an analysis of the maximum annual discharge of the river Rhine at Lobith is presented.  相似文献
