Abstract. We propose a spline‐based semiparametric maximum likelihood approach to analysing the Cox model with interval‐censored data. With this approach, the baseline cumulative hazard function is approximated by a monotone B‐spline function. We extend the generalized Rosen algorithm to compute the maximum likelihood estimate. We show that the estimator of the regression parameter is asymptotically normal and semiparametrically efficient, although the estimator of the baseline cumulative hazard function converges at a rate slower than root‐n. We also develop an easy‐to‐implement method for consistently estimating the standard error of the estimated regression parameter, which facilitates the proposed inference procedure for the Cox model with interval‐censored data. The proposed method is evaluated by simulation studies regarding its finite sample performance and is illustrated using data from a breast cosmesis study.  相似文献

In this note, we report a dramatic improvement in the computational efficiency of semiparametric generalized least squares(SGLS) estimation. Computation of SGLS estimates no longer presents serious problems with data sets of moderate size. We also correct a numerical error in the standard errors of the SGLS estimates reported in our recent paper in this journal (Horowitz and Neumann, 1987). The corrected standard errors of SGLS are comparable to those we reported for quantile estimates.  相似文献

This work deals with some parametric and semiparametric modeling approaches for count data distributions related to development of spiraling whitefly which is an insect pest collected in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. In this study, the count data distributions are assumed to be modified Poisson probability mass functions. For the discrete semiparametric associated kernel estimator investigated, its almost sure consistency and asymptotic normality are shown under some asumptions. Some weighted Poisson models (WPD) are applied in comparison with the semiparametric approach for finite samples characterizing the growth of spiraling whitefly. Finally, the discrete semiparametric estimation is simple and effective for estimating any count distribution while WPD are practically more meaningful.  相似文献

Semiparametric maximum likelihood estimation with estimating equations (SMLE) is more flexible than traditional methods; it has fewer restrictions on distributions and regression models. The required information about distribution and regression structures is incorporated in estimating equations of the SMLE to improve the estimation quality of non‐parametric methods. The likelihood of SMLE for censored data involves complicated implicit functions without closed‐form expressions, and the first derivatives of the log‐profile‐likelihood cannot be expressed as summations of independent and identically distributed random variables; it is challenging to derive asymptotic properties of the SMLE for censored data. For group‐censored data, the paper shows that all the implicit functions are well defined and obtains the asymptotic distributions of the SMLE for model parameters and lifetime distributions. With several examples the paper compares the SMLE, the regular non‐parametric likelihood estimation method and the parametric MLEs in terms of their asymptotic efficiencies, and illustrates application of SMLE. Various asymptotic distributions of the likelihood ratio statistics are derived for testing the adequacy of estimating equations and a partial set of parameters equal to some known values.  相似文献

The analysis of time series data with detection limits is challenging due to the high‐dimensional integral involved in the likelihood. Existing methods are either computationally demanding or rely on restrictive parametric distributional assumptions. We propose a semiparametric approach, where the temporal dependence is captured by parametric copula, while the marginal distribution is estimated non‐parametrically. Utilizing the properties of copulas, we develop a new copula‐based sequential sampling algorithm, which provides a convenient way to calculate the censored likelihood. Even without full parametric distributional assumptions, the proposed method still allows us to efficiently compute the conditional quantiles of the censored response at a future time point, and thus construct both point and interval predictions. We establish the asymptotic properties of the proposed pseudo maximum likelihood estimator, and demonstrate through simulation and the analysis of a water quality data that the proposed method is more flexible and leads to more accurate predictions than Gaussian‐based methods for non‐normal data. Doubly censored failure time data occur in many areas including demographical studies, epidemiology studies, medical studies and tumorigenicity experiments, and correspondingly some inference procedures have been developed in the literature (Biometrika, 91, 2004, 277; Comput. Statist. Data Anal., 57, 2013, 41; J. Comput. Graph. Statist., 13, 2004, 123). In this paper, we discuss regression analysis of such data under a class of flexible semiparametric transformation models, which includes some commonly used models for doubly censored data as special cases. For inference, the non‐parametric maximum likelihood estimation will be developed and in particular, we will present a novel expectation–maximization algorithm with the use of subject‐specific independent Poisson variables. In addition, the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are established and an extensive simulation study suggests that the proposed methodology works well for practical situations. We propose data generating structures which can be represented as the nonlinear autoregressive models with single and finite mixtures of scale mixtures of skew normal innovations. This class of models covers symmetric/asymmetric and light/heavy-tailed distributions, so provide a useful generalization of the symmetrical nonlinear autoregressive models. As semiparametric and nonparametric curve estimation are the approaches for exploring the structure of a nonlinear time series data set, in this article the semiparametric estimator for estimating the nonlinear function of the model is investigated based on the conditional least square method and nonparametric kernel approach. Also, an Expectation–Maximization-type algorithm to perform the maximum likelihood (ML) inference of unknown parameters of the model is proposed. Furthermore, some strong and weak consistency of the semiparametric estimator in this class of models are presented. Finally, to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed model, some simulation studies and an application to real data set are considered.  相似文献

Forecasting in economic data analysis is dominated by linear prediction methods where the predicted values are calculated from a fitted linear regression model. With multiple predictor variables, multivariate nonparametric models were proposed in the literature. However, empirical studies indicate the prediction performance of multi-dimensional nonparametric models may be unsatisfactory. We propose a new semiparametric model average prediction (SMAP) approach to analyse panel data and investigate its prediction performance with numerical examples. Estimation of individual covariate effect only requires univariate smoothing and thus may be more stable than previous multivariate smoothing approaches. The estimation of optimal weight parameters incorporates the longitudinal correlation and the asymptotic properties of the estimated results are carefully studied in this paper.  相似文献

Recently developed two-stage estimation methods of sample selection models are used, in the context of data from the 1989 Labor Market Activity Survey, to examine labor supply decisions and wage outcomes for employed men and women. Recent hypothesis test procedures are used to test for no sample selection and to test for a parametric against a semiparametric selection-correction procedure. We conclude that selection is indeed an issue for the sample at hand and that the semiparametric specification is appropriate. We also present the standard decomposition of the gender wage gap into its explained and unexplained portions.  相似文献

Abstract.  We consider marginal semiparametric partially linear models for longitudinal/clustered data and propose an estimation procedure based on a spline approximation of the non-parametric part of the model and an extension of the parametric marginal generalized estimating equations (GEE). Our estimates of both parametric part and non-parametric part of the model have properties parallel to those of parametric GEE, that is, the estimates are efficient if the covariance structure is correctly specified and they are still consistent and asymptotically normal even if the covariance structure is misspecified. By showing that our estimate achieves the semiparametric information bound, we actually establish the efficiency of estimating the parametric part of the model in a stronger sense than what is typically considered for GEE. The semiparametric efficiency of our estimate is obtained by assuming only conditional moment restrictions instead of the strict multivariate Gaussian error assumption.  相似文献

We implement semiparametric random censorship model aided inference for censored median regression models. This is based on the idea that, when the censoring is specified by a common distribution, a semiparametric survival function estimator acts as an improved weight in the so-called inverse censoring weighted estimating function. We show that the proposed method will always produce estimates of the model parameters that are as good as or better than an existing estimator based on the traditional Kaplan–Meier weights. We also provide an illustration of the method through an analysis of a lung cancer data set.  相似文献

Motivated by a recent tuberculosis (TB) study, this paper is concerned with covariates missing not at random (MNAR) and models the potential intracluster correlation by a frailty. We consider the regression analysis of right‐censored event times from clustered subjects under a Cox proportional hazards frailty model and present the semiparametric maximum likelihood estimator (SPMLE) of the model parameters. An easy‐to‐implement pseudo‐SPMLE is then proposed to accommodate more realistic situations using readily available supplementary information on the missing covariates. Algorithms are provided to compute the estimators and their consistent variance estimators. We demonstrate that both the SPMLE and the pseudo‐SPMLE are consistent and asymptotically normal by the arguments based on the theory of modern empirical processes. The proposed approach is examined numerically via simulation and illustrated with an analysis of the motivating TB study data.  相似文献

For right-censored data, Zeng et al. [Semiparametirc transformation modes with random effects for clustered data. Statist Sin. 2008;18:355–377] proposed a class of semiparametric transformation models with random effects to formulate the effects of possibly time-dependent covariates on clustered failure times. In this article, we demonstrate that the approach of Zeng et al. can be extended to analyse clustered doubly censored data. The asymptotic properties of the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters are derived. A simulation study is conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

The authors consider semiparametric efficient estimation of parameters in the conditional mean model for a simple incomplete data structure in which the outcome of interest is observed only for a random subset of subjects but covariates and surrogate (auxiliary) outcomes are observed for all. They use optimal estimating function theory to derive the semiparametric efficient score in closed form. They show that when covariates and auxiliary outcomes are discrete, a Horvitz‐Thompson type estimator with empirically estimated weights is semiparametric efficient. The authors give simulation studies validating the finite‐sample behaviour of the semiparametric efficient estimator and its asymptotic variance; they demonstrate the efficiency of the estimator in realistic settings.  相似文献

The quantile residual lifetime function provides comprehensive quantitative measures for residual life, especially when the distribution of the latter is skewed or heavy‐tailed and/or when the data contain outliers. In this paper, we propose a general class of semiparametric quantile residual life models for length‐biased right‐censored data. We use the inverse probability weighted method to correct the bias due to length‐biased sampling and informative censoring. Two estimating equations corresponding to the quantile regressions are constructed in two separate steps to obtain an efficient estimator. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimator are established. The main difficulty in implementing our proposed method is that the estimating equations associated with the quantiles are nondifferentiable, and we apply the majorize–minimize algorithm and estimate the asymptotic covariance using an efficient resampling method. We use simulation studies to evaluate the proposed method and illustrate its application by a real‐data example.  相似文献

The semiparametric accelerated failure time (AFT) model is not as widely used as the Cox relative risk model due to computational difficulties. Recent developments in least squares estimation and induced smoothing estimating equations for censored data provide promising tools to make the AFT models more attractive in practice. For multivariate AFT models, we propose a generalized estimating equations (GEE) approach, extending the GEE to censored data. The consistency of the regression coefficient estimator is robust to misspecification of working covariance, and the efficiency is higher when the working covariance structure is closer to the truth. The marginal error distributions and regression coefficients are allowed to be unique for each margin or partially shared across margins as needed. The initial estimator is a rank-based estimator with Gehan’s weight, but obtained from an induced smoothing approach with computational ease. The resulting estimator is consistent and asymptotically normal, with variance estimated through a multiplier resampling method. In a large scale simulation study, our estimator was up to three times as efficient as the estimateor that ignores the within-cluster dependence, especially when the within-cluster dependence was strong. The methods were applied to the bivariate failure times data from a diabetic retinopathy study.  相似文献
