Background.?Accumulating evidence implicates leukocyte telomere length (LTL) shortening as a potential risk predictor for cardiovascular disease. Arterial stiffness chronicles the cumulative burden of cardiovascular disease risk factors. Therefore, the capacity of LTL to predict arterial stiffness was examined.

Methods.?A total of 275 unrelated Chinese males: 163 patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and 112 healthy controls, 40–73 years of age were included in this study. The relative telomere length of leukocytes was determined by a real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Large artery stiffness was measured with carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV).

Results.?The relative telomere length (T/S) ratio was significantly shorter in patients with CAD (0.79?±?0.26) than in control subjects (1.08?±?0.22) (p?<?0.001). The correlation between LTL and PWV in patients with CAD was stronger than that in the controls (r?=??0.467, r2?=?0.227, p?<?0.001 for patients with CAD versus r?=??0.223; r 2?=?0.050; p?=?0.018 for controls). The loge-transformed T/S ratio was inversely correlated with age (r?=??0.345; p?<?0.001), PWV (r?=??0.326; p?<?0.001) and C-reactive protein ( r?=??0.133; p?=?0.027).

Conclusions.?The data show an association of leukocyte telomere length shortening with increased arterial stiffness and cardiovascular burden, suggesting that telomere length is a biomarker of large artery elasticity and CAD. Further studies are warranted to study the role of LTL dynamics in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.  相似文献

Background: Opioids are an effective treatment for chronic non-malignant pain (CNP). Long-term use risks and side effects such as opioid-induced androgen deficiency (OPIAD) exist. This could be measured by saliva testosterone (Sal-T).

Objectives: To evaluate OPIAD in long-term opioid use in CNP patients.

Methods: A cross-sectional study included CNP male outpatients under opioid treatment. Total-Testosterone (Total-T), Free-Testosterone (Free-T), Bio-Testosterone (Bio-T) and Sal-T were measured. Correlations were calculated by Spearman’s rho (SPSS 20).

Results: From 2012 to 2014, 134 from 249 (54%) consecutive male outpatients reported erectile dysfunction (ED), 37% of them related to opioids and 19% evidenced OPIAD. A total of 120 subjects (94 cases and 26 matched-controls) were included. A significantly lower luteinizing hormone, Total-T and Free-T were found, as well as, a significant correlation between Sal-T and Total-T (r?=?0.234, p?=?0.039), Bio-T (r?=?0.241, p?=?0.039), IIEF (r?=?0.363, p?=?0.003) and HAD-anxiety (r =??0.414, p?=?0.012) in OPIAD patients. Sal-T levels were significantly lower in patients with severe–moderate ED versus mild ED (p?=?0.045) and in patients with severe ED versus moderate–mild ED (p?=?0.036).

Conclusions: These data demonstrate the high prevalence of ED in long-term use of opioids, part of this is associated to OPIAD, which can be tested by Sal-T as a non-invasive approach.  相似文献

Introduction: Several studies have indicated that erectile dysfunction (ED) patients also suffer from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). We investigated a group of men with LUTS and assessed their sexual function with the aim of being able to predict ED risk factors and introduce ED treatments earlier for this patient group.

Methods: International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Overactive Bladder Symptoms Score (OABSS) and Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) score were obtained from 236 men with LUTS at their first out-patients visit. Clinical parameters such as body mass index, prostate volume, residual urine volume and prostate specific antigen were also evaluated. The relationship between the SHIM score and other clinical data was analyzed.

Results: According to the SHIM score, ED in men with LUTS was severe 15%, moderate 19%, moderate to mild 28%, mild 17%, normal 7% and data was incomplete in 14%. Based on the results of a multivariate analysis, aging (p?p?=?0.024) were significantly correlated to severe and moderate ED. Furthermore, among OAB symptoms score items, urge urinary incontinence was a risk factor for severe and moderate ED (p?=?0.005).

Conclusion: Aging and OAB (notably urinary urge incontinence) are risk factors for severe and moderate ED in men with LUTS.  相似文献

Objectives: To investigate the predictive values of free prostate-specific antigen (fPSA), total PSA (tPSA) and age on the prostate volume.

Methods: The data of 2148 patients with lower urinary tract symptoms were analyzed retrospectively. The patients who had transrectal ultrasonography guided 10 core biopsies owing to the findings obtained on digital rectal examination and presence of high PSA levels (PSA?=?2.5–10?ng/dl), and proven to have BPH histopathologically were included in the study. Age, tPSA, fPSA and the prostate volumes (PV) of the patients were noted.

Results: One thousand patients that fulfilled the inclusion criteria were included in the study. The PV of the patients were significantly correlated with age, tPSA and fPSA (p?r?=?0.307, p?r?=?0.382, p?r?=?0.296, respectively). On linear regression model, fPSA was found as a stronger predictive for PV (AUC?=?0.75, p?p?p?=?0.013).

Conclusions: Although tPSA is an important prognostic factor for predicting PV, the predictive value of fPSA is higher. PV can easily be predicted by using age, and serum tPSA and fPSA levels.  相似文献

Objective: This study aims to investigate the effect of smoking on sexual functions in AS patients.

Patients and methods: A total of 67 male AS patients with a median age of 34 years (range: 18–57) reporting sexual activity at least for the past 4 weeks period were included. Patients were divided into smokers (Group 1, n?=?47) and non-smokers (Group 2, n?=?20). Fagerström test for nicotine dependence, smoking history, exhaled carbon monoxide test were recorded for smoking AS patients. Visual analogue scale (VAS), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index (BASMI), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), Ankylosing Spondylitis Quality of Life (ASQoL), International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were filled for both groups.

Results: There was no significant difference between smokers and non-smokers in all evaluation parameters. BASMI scores were significantly lower in the mild dependency subgroup as compared to those with moderate or severe dependency (p?=?.005 and p?=?.007, respectively). Total IIEF score and IIEF categories correlated significantly with BASDAI, BASFI, BASMI, ASQoL, pain, fatigue, and cumulative smoking. BDI showed an inverse correlation with the IIEF score and IIEF category (p?r?=?–0.520, p?r?=?–0.508, respectively).

Conclusions: Sexual function in AS patients is associated with the pain, fatigue, disease activity, functional status, quality of life, depression as well as the cumulative exposure to smoking, and that sexual functions tend to decline with increasing degree of cigarette dependency.  相似文献

Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic obstruction (BPO) represent one of the most common clinical complaints in adult men. Several drugs used for LUTS/BPO may strongly affect sexual function and bother. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the impact of combination therapy with alpha-blockers (AB), 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (5-ARI) on the risk of erectile dysfunction(ED) and libido alterations (LA) from randomized clinical trial (RCT). Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, five RCTs involving 6131 patients were included in the analysis. According to the analysis, the overall prevalence of ED and LA were significantly greater in the combination treatment group than in the AB group (7.93% versus 4.66%; OR 1.81; p?p?=?0.003, respectively). The combination therapy increased the risk of ED compared to monotherapy with 5-ARI (7.93% versus 6.47%; OR 1.25; p?=?0.04) but not the risk of LA (3.51% versus 3.37; OR 1.03; p?=?0.84). In our systematic meta-analysis, we demonstrated that combination therapy with ABs and 5-ARIs was associated with significantly higher risk of ED and LA compared with single monotherapy. Combination therapy showed similar risk of LA compared with 5-ARI monotherapy.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to examine the serum levels of bone turnover markers and interleukin 1β in healthy elderly men with different levels of habitual physical activity. The study was conducted on 40 healthy men aged between 65 and 85 years (mean 74.0?±?7.55 years). The study population was divided into two groups with respect to the level of physical activity: 22 less active subjects (energy expenditure related to physical activity below 1600?kcal per week) and 18 more active subjects (above 1600?kcal per week). To estimate the physical activity of the study population, weekly energy expenditure was measured in each subject with use of Caltrac accelerometer. In the blood serum levels of bone formation marker – osteocalcin and resorption marker – the C-terminal telopeptide of collagen I (ICTP), and interleukin-1β were determined. Concentrations of osteocalcin and ICTP in less active subjects were significantly higher (by 3.62?ng/ml and by 1.21?μg/l respectively, p?<?0.05), reflecting the higher bone turnover in comparison to values determined in more active subjects. Positive correlations between ICTP and osteocalcin levels (r?=?0.5814 and r?=?0.6526; p?<?0.05), and between ICTP and IL-1β (r?=?0.5823 and r =?0.6040; p?<?0.05) in less and more active men were found. On the ground of the presented study it can be concluded that the decreased bone turnover occurred in men with higher level of habitual physical activity. This study showed the relationship between serum level of IL-1β and bone resorption but the habitual physical activity has no effect on this cytokine activity.  相似文献

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between testosterone levels and the metabolic syndrome (MS) in men older than 45 years.

Methods: Six hundred and sixty men (45–70 years) selected from 2906 participants of a population screening for prostate cancer were included in this study. Testosterone and the components of MS were assessed in all men. MS was diagnosed according to NCEP-ATP III criteria. Triglycerides (TG)/HDL-cholesterol (chol) index was calculated.

Results: The presence of MS was inversely associated with testosterone (χ2, p?<?0.001), independently of age (OR 0.802, CI 95%: 0.724–0.887, p?<?0.0001). Hypertension was the most frequent abnormality observed followed by elevated TG and waist circumference (WC). Testosterone correlated positively with HDL-chol (r: 0.14, p?<?0.0001) and negatively with body mass index (BMI)(r: ?0.29, p?<?0.0001), WC (r: ?0.26, p?<?0.0001), TG (r: ?0.20, p?<?0.0001), TG/HDL-chol (r: ?0.20, p?<?0.0001), glucose (r: ?0.11, p?=?0.005) and MS score (r: ?0.23, p?<?0.0001).

Conclusions: Our results show that in men older than 45 years, as long as testosterone levels decline, the prevalence of MS increases, independently of age. The correlations found between testosterone and four of the five components of MS, as well as with BMI and TG/HDL-chol ratio, a surrogate marker of insulin resistance, suggest considering male hypogonadism as a determinant of developmental abnormalities typical of MS.  相似文献

Aim: To study the cognitive functions and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in individuals taking a combination of tamsulosin and solifenacin in a higher dosage.

Methods: All patients (n?=?262) were assigned to group A (N?=?93, tamsulosin 0.4?mg?+?solifenacin 10?mg per day), group B (N?=?83, tamsulosin 0.4?mg?+?solifenacin 20?mg), and control group C (N?=?86; tamsulosin 0.4?mg?+?placebo). The lower urinary tract (LUT) condition was assessed on the scales International Prostate Symptom Score, Over Active Bladder Awareness Tool and uroflowmetry. The state of cognitive status was assessed on the scales Mini-mental State Examination, Controlled Oral Word Association Test, Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised, Wechsler III, Color Trails Test, California Verbal Learning Test.

Results: The values of cognitive function indicators in the individuals from all groups after treatment did not significantly differ from the respective values at the baseline (p?>?.05). The values of most HRQoL parameters of the functional state of the LUT significantly improved in groups A and B. A significant correlation between the state of cognitive status and HRQoL, as well as LUT was absent (r?<0.3).

Conclusion: The combination of solifenacin in a double dosage along with tamsulosin can be recommended for elderly benign prostatic hyperplasia patients with overactive bladder symptoms.  相似文献

Abstract

Objectives: To determine the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and serum testosterone levels (TT) in patients with erectile dysfunction (ED).

Methods: This study included 280 ED patients above 40-years-of-age. Participants were divided into two groups according to 2005 criteria of International Diabetes Federation. The severity of ED was determined according to the International Index of Erectile Function-EF (IIEF-EF score; 0–10 severe ED, 11–25 mild to moderate ED). The severity of ED, serum TT levels and other MetS components were compared between the groups.

Results: The mean age of the patients was 55.7?±?8.2 years. One hundred eighteen patients (%42.1) had MetS. Sixty-eight patients with MetS (57.6%) and 71 patients without MetS (43.8%) had severe ED (p?=?0.031). A total of 46 (16.4%) patients had hypogonadism. Hypogonadism was seen more prevalent in patients with MetS (22.9% vs. 11.7%, p?=?0.013). Logistic regression analyses for ED risk factors demonstrated that abnormal FBG increased the relative risk of severe ED up to 10.7-fold (p?<?0.001) but not presence of hypogonadism (p?=?0.706).

Conclusion: Metabolic syndrome was seen in almost half of the patients with ED. ED was more severe among MetS patients. Hypogonadism alone is a not risk factor for severe ED.  相似文献

In aging men, serum endogenous testosterone is inversely associated with common carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and directly with beneficial plasma lipid levels; however, the relationship to endothelial function is poorly characterized. We examined the association between serum testosterone and endothelium-dependent brachial artery flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) in middle-aged to elderly men. A group of 83 men aged 40–69 years (mean 55.9?±?7.5 [SD]) with andropausal symptoms were studied. We measured their serum lipids, testosterone, luteinizing hormone, mean carotid IMT and brachial artery FMD by high resolution B-mode ultrasound. Brachial FMD correlated inversely with vessel diameter (r?=??0.38, p?=?0.0004), alcohol consumption (r?=??0.22, p?=?0.047) and serum testosterone (r?=??0.27, p?=?0.01), but not with luteinizing hormone. In multivariate analysis, FMD was explained by testosterone (β?=??0.17, p?=?0.0226), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (β?=?4.17, p?=?0.0312) and vessel diameter (β?=??4.37, p?<?0.0001) when adjusted for age, body mass index, triglycerides, blood pressure, carotid IMT, smoking, alcohol consumption, cardiovascular diseases and use of lipid lowering medication (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors). In middle-aged to elderly men, there is an inverse correlation between serum testosterone and brachial FMD. These data suggest that testosterone may have an adverse effect on systemic endothelial function.  相似文献

Objectives: To investigate frailty as a predictor of surgical outcome in elderly patients undergoing penile prosthesis implantation.

Material and methods: A total of 54 elderly patients, above 60 years of age, underwent penile prosthesis implantation between 2012 and 2014. Their data were collected and retrospectively analyzed. A modified frailty index (mFI) was calculated for each patient based on 11 risk factors from the Canadian Study of Health and Aging Frailty Index. The 1-year adverse outcomes were correlated with mFI, patients’ and procedure’s risk factors.

Results: Mean age was 64.9?±?5.2 years. No mortality was reported in our patients, however, one-year adverse outcomes were encountered in 43 (79.6%) patients. Among all studied variables, the 1-year adverse outcomes was not significantly association with mFI, but with preoperative glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) (p?=?0.031) and associated Peyronie’s disease (PD) (p?=?0.000). HbA1c, dyslipidemia, hypertension, PD and duration of the procedure were predictive of infection complications (p?Conclusions: mFI is not a predictive of post-penile prosthesis implantation adverse outcomes in elderly patients with impotence. Degree of diabetic control and association with PD was associated with the 1-year adverse outcomes and infection complications.  相似文献

Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between vitamin D (25[OH]D) status and the risk of cardiovascular disease as assessed by various cardiovascular risk scoring systems such as QRISK2, BNF, ASSING, SCORE, and Framingham in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).

Methods: The study included 108 patients with vitamin D insufficiency (25[OH]D?≥?10–30?ng/mL) and 100 patients with vitamin D deficiency (25[OH]D?Results: HbA1c levels were significantly higher in patients with vitamin D deficiency. Patients with vitamin D deficiency had significantly higher Framingham risk score (p?p?r?=?0.537) and a weak but statistically significant correlation between 25[OH]D levels and BNF score (r?=?0.295). 25[OH]D levels were significantly higher and HbA1c levels were significantly lower in patients with Framingham cardiovascular risk score ≤10%.

Conclusion: We found a close relationship with Framingham cardiovascular risk score in diabetic patients with very low serum vitamin D levels. Cardiovascular risk as assessed by the Framingham’s scale increases with decreasing 25[OH]D levels. BNF score was negatively correlated with 25[OH]D levels.  相似文献

Background.?It is of interest to understand whether impaired physical function is associated with health-related quality-of-life (HRQOL). We examined upper and lower body physical function and its relationship with two domains of HRQOL among men.

Methods.?We conducted a population-based observational study of musculoskeletal health among Boston, MA residents, the Boston Area Community Health/Bone Survey. Participants were 1219 randomly-selected Black, Hispanic, and White males (30–79 years). Upper body function was measured using hand grip strength, while lower body function was measured by combining a timed walk and a chair stand test. HRQOL was measured using the physical (PCS-12) and mental health (MCS-12) component scores of the SF-12. Multivariate linear regression models were used to estimate the association between poor function and HRQOL.

Results.?There was a significant association of poor upper body physical function with the MCS-12 (β coefficient:??4.12, p?=?0.003) but not the PCS-12 (β coefficient: 0.79, p?=?0.30) compared to those without poor function. Those with poor lower body physical function had significantly lower PCS-12 scores (β:??2.95, p?=?0.007), compared to those without poor function, but an association was not observed for MCS-12 scores.

Conclusions.?Domains of physical function were not consistently related to domains of HRQOL.  相似文献

Background: There is no research that evaluates the relationship between the severity of the symptoms of atrial fibrillation (AF), the presence of frailty syndrome and acceptance of the illness.

Methods: The study included 132 patients aged 72.7?±?6.73 with diagnosed AF. The severity of the symptoms of AF was determined according to European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) guidelines, frailty syndrome was assessed using the Tilburg frailty indicator (TFI) and the acceptance of the illness was assessed using the acceptance of illness scale (AIS). A standard statistical comparison and multiple regression analysis using the stepwise method were performed.

Results: In patients with AF, frailty was 5.31?±?2.69 (TFI). Frailty syndrome was diagnosed in 59.8% of the AF patients who had a score of 7.17?±?1.72. A higher level of EHRA score was connected with a smaller degree of the acceptance of the illness p?=?0.0000. The multiple regression model indicated that age (p?=?0.0009) and the severity of the symptoms (p?=?0.0001) are important predictors of frailty syndrome.

Conclusions: There is a relationship between the presence of frailty syndrome and the intensity of the symptoms and the acceptance of AF. Age and the EHRA score permitted higher levels of frailty syndrome to be predicted.  相似文献

Abstract

Background: Heart failure (HF) is considered as a cardiogeriatric syndrome. Its fundamental pathophysiological feature is autonomic imbalance (and associated abnormalities within cardiovascular reflex control), but recent evidence suggests the involvement of deranged hormone metabolism. Both these neural and endocrine pathologies have serious clinical and prognostic consequences in patients with HF. We investigated the relations between autonomic status, baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) and hormone status in men with mild systolic HF.

Methods: We examined 46 men with stable systolic HF (age: 62?±?10 years, NYHA class I/II: 10/36 [22%/78%], ischemic aetiology: 72%, left ventricular ejection fraction: 32?±?8%). Serum hormone levels (i.e. total testosterone [TT], dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate [DHEAS], oestradiol [E2], insulin-like growth factor type 1 [IGF-1] and cortisol) were assessed using immunoassays. Estimated free testosterone (eFT) was estimated using the Vermeulen’s equation. Heart rate variability (HRV) was assessed in time and frequency domains, based on 10-min resting recordings. BRS was estimated using the sequence method (BRS-Seq) and the phenylephrine test (BRS-Phe).

Results: Deficiencies in circulating TT, eFT, DHEAS and IGF-1 (defined as a serum hormone ≤the 10th percentile calculated for the adequate age category in the cohort of healthy men) were found in respectively 13%, 30%, 55% and 93% of men with systolic HF. Serum SHBG ≥50?nmol/L and cortisol ≥700?nmol/L characterised, respectively 44% and 29% of men with HF. In multivariable models after the adjustment for clinical variables, the following relationships were found in examined men: DHEAS and SDNN (time domain of HRV defined as a standard deviation of average R–R intervals) (β?=?0.29, p?=?0.03); E2 and: HRV-LF (ms2) (β?=?0.37, p?=?0.01), HRV-HF (ms2) (β?=?0.44, p?=?0.02) and BRS-Phe (β?=?0.51, p?=?0.008); TT and: HRV-HF (%) (β?=?0.35, p?=?0.02), HRV-LF/HF ratio (β?=??0.35, p?=?0.02) and BRS-Seq (β?=?0.33, p?=?0.04).

Conclusions: The observed associations between reduced circulating androgens, oestrogens and lower HRV and depleted BRS, irrespectively of HF severity suggest the pathophysiological links between these two mechanisms. These results constitute the premises to investigate whether the pharmacological supplementation of depleted hormones would enable to restore the autonomic balance and improve the efficacy of reflex control within the cardiovascular system in men with systolic HF.  相似文献

Objective: To analyze the impact of age, BMI and sex hormone on aging males’ symptoms (AMS) and the 5-item version of the international index of erectile function (IIEF-5) scores in middle-aged and elderly Chinese men.

Methods: A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Jiashan County. A total of 969 men, aged between 40 and 80 years old, were admitted. Physical examination and the sex hormones were measured, and AMS and IIEF-5 scores were assessed.

Results: The oneway ANOVA analysis indicated older age groups had higher AMS total-scores, somatic and sexual sub-scores, and lower IIEF5 scores (all p?rpairwise) analyses showed the significant associations between AMS and age or sex hormone (cFT, Bio-T, SHBG, and LH) levels, and similar for IIEF5. However, when age was adjusted, the correlation coefficients (rpartial) weakened, and correlation significance disappeared, except LH (for AMS: rpartial?=?0.096, p?=?.009; for IIEF-5: rpartial?= ?0.140, p?=?.001). Multiple linear regressions confirmed the influence of increased age and LH on the AMS and IIEF5 scores.

Conclusion: CFT, Bio-T and SHBG failed to yield any additional predicting information when age was adjusted. To improve the male reproductive health, future research should pay more attention on aging-related comorbidities and how to improve general wellness.  相似文献

Introduction.?The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship among metabolic syndrome (MetS), erectile dysfunction (ED) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Methods.?Our study included 106 patients with BPH, 33 (31.1%) of whom had MetS. Blood pressures, waist circumferences, serum levels of fasting blood glucose, high density lipoprotein and triglyceride of patients were recorded. Erectile functions of the patients were evaluated by International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF). Patients were divided into two groups according to IIEF scores, namely ‘mild/no ED’ and ‘moderate/severe ED’. IIEF scores of ED groups were between 17 and 30 and 6–16 in turn. LUTS severities were assessed by International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and classified as mild (IPSS 0–7), moderate (IPSS 8–19) and severe (IPSS 20–35).

Results.?There was a significant difference between ED groups concerning MetS presence (p?=?0.032). MetS presence was not found to be associated with the severity of LUTS (p?=?0.144). There was no correlation between ED groups regarding LUTS severity (p?=?0.303).

Conclusion.?Results of the present study showed a correlation between MetS presence and ED. In the light of our results, MetS seems to play an important role in the etiopathogenesis of ED in patients with BPH.  相似文献

Abstract

Introduction: The value of clinically available free testosterone (FT) assays remains controversial. Here, we evaluate the agreement between the radioimmunoassay (RIA) and calculated FT (cFT) versus equilibrium dialysis (EqD), considered the gold standard.

Methods: Fifty-six consecutive men (aged 26–77) had blood samples assessed for FT, including men with treated and untreated testosterone deficiency (TD) and men without TD. Samples were split and tested by the two methodologies at a Quest Diagnostics national reference laboratory. cFT was calculated by the Vermeulen method.

Results: A robust correlation was noted for RIA and EqD (r?=?0.966) and for cFT and EqD (r?=?0.986). Strong correlations were observed for men receiving testosterone therapy and for men in the lowest and highest quartiles for total and FT. The correlation of total testosterone with FT was similar for cFT (r?=?0.843), RIA (r?=?0.806), and EqD (r?=?0.809). Sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG) was not correlated with any measure of FT. Bland–Altman analysis demonstrated similar bias for both cFT and RIA, although cFT consistently overestimated FT. Numerical values for RIA were approximately one seventh of EqD values.

Conclusions: These results support the clinical use of both RIA and cFT as measures of FT. Due to numerical differences, each test requires its own set of reference values.  相似文献
