How can an organization repair trust through communication after an ethical failure? This study examines how trust is repaired after an integrity-based trust violation using three different accounts: apology, excuse, and refusal. In our approach, we rely on two strands of attribution theory, which suggests that different attributions for responsibility and credibility affect trust. An experiment with n = 368 was conducted to explore trust repair effectiveness of apology versus refusal and apology versus excuse after an integrity-based trust violation. Results revealed apology as a double-edged sword; it repairs trust more successfully than refusal and excuse because it is evaluated as more credible. However, it is less successful than refusal and excuse because it is evaluated as more responsible.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to explore, by gender, UK Generation Y graduates’ views on their career transition after graduation from under-graduate business programmes. Following a literature review, the empirical work takes the form of an on-line questionnaire with business school graduates from a post-1992 Scottish University in five recent academic sessions. Gendered nuances are found in several aspects of the respondents’ views on their career transition, including statistically significant differences in: more women continuing their student job after graduation; women being more accepting of starting after graduation in a non-graduate level job; and more women than men encountering gender discrimination in the workplace. The identified nuances and differences appear to be setting the genders on diverging career tracks as early as the transition from university, in that they seem to signal more career progress, even advantage, among the men than the women.  相似文献

There are more than 17,000 nursing homes in the United States providing care for 1.7 million disabled and elderly individuals. Medicare and Medicaid paid $28 billion in 1997 for nursing home services, more than one half of all nursing home expenditures. Improvements in the quality of care in these facilities and ensuring value for public expenditures has been a long sought after goal. Recent actions by the federal government are designed to strengthen state and federal authority and processes to accomplish this goal. Further more, only very few clients are willing to pay for the coaching of their own. Accordingly it is very difficult for a newcomer after his coaching education to built up a professional existence as a coach. 由多分形分析出发,提出了一种新型的金融市场多分形波动率测度Sα。与传统测度Δα相比,Sα更为充分地利用了多分形分析过程中产生的对描述金融市场波动有益的统计信息。以上证综指和深证成指1354个交易日内5个不同抽样频率的高频数据为例,通过运用具有bootstrap特性的SPA检验法,检验了Sα测度和Δα测度对中国股票市场真实波动率估计的有效性差异。实证研究表明,Sα测度对市场真实波动率的估计较Δα测度更为准确。  相似文献

针对异质产品Cournot寡头竞争市场,研究两种不同委托授权下企业的横向兼并效应与内部激励机制调整问题.首先证明了无论企业采用何种类型委托授权模式都具有较大的横向兼并动机,且产品替代性程度越低,兼并动力越大,只是在分散委托授权模式下企业的兼并动机比集中委托授权模式稍弱一些.并且证明兼并企业采用分散委托授权模式时与采用集中委托授权模式时其经营者激励机制调整有明显不同,集中委托授权模式所采用的经营者激励机制其攻击性普遍增强,而分散委托授权模式所采用的经营者激励机制其攻击性普遍减弱,但未兼并企业所采用的经营者激励机制其攻击性总是随兼并规模的增大而增加.  相似文献

在设备寿命周期内,购买和使用结束后出售旧设备需要支付交易成本,交易成本与设备价格具有线性关系。分析显示:对于具有线性交易成本的耐用性设备在线租赁问题,如果不考虑在设备使用结束后出售旧设备的残值以降低成本,从租赁模式转换到购买模式的在线策略的转换时机,总是晚于考虑在设备使用结束后出售旧设备的在线策略;如果不考虑购买和使用后出售的交易成本,在线策略名义上的竞争比小于实际竞争比。  相似文献

This paper studies the impact of supply chain power structure on firms' profitability in an assembly system with one assembler and two suppliers. Two power regimes are investigated—in a Single Power Regime, a more powerful firm acts as the Stackelberg leader to decide the wholesale price but not the quantity whereas in a Dual Power Regime, both the price and quantity decisions are granted to the more powerful firm. Tallying the power positions of the three firms, for each power regime we study three power structures and investigate the system's as well as the firms' preference of power. We find that when the assembler is the most powerful firm among the three, the system‐wide profit is the highest and so is the assembler's profit. The more interesting finding is that, if the assembler is not the most powerful player in the system, more power does not necessarily guarantee her a higher profit. Similarly, a supplier's profit can also decrease with the power he has. These results contrast with the conclusion for serial systems, where a firm always prefers more power. We also find that when both suppliers are more (less) powerful than the assembler, it can be beneficial (indifferent) for everyone if the two suppliers merge into a mega supplier to make decisions jointly. When the assembler is more powerful than one supplier and less so than the other, it is always better for the system to have the two suppliers merge, and for each individual firm, merging is preferred if the firm becomes the more powerful party after merging.  相似文献

本文运用基于动态条件相关的多元GARCH(DCC-MVGARCH)模型,对美国次信贷危机发生前后国际原油市场和中、美股票市场间的协动性变化进行了研究。实证结果表明在次信贷危机发生后,国际原油市场与中、美股票市场间的协动性有了明显的增强,不同市场间的波动具有明显的传导作用。国际原油市场与美国股市的协动性相对于中国股市波动性更强,说明冲击在国际原油市场与美国股市间的传导更强烈,其协动性对冲击的反应更敏感。另外,运用偏最小二乘方法(PLS)对影响国际原油市场和中、美股票市场的诸多因素在次信贷危机爆发前后对协动性解释能力的变化进行了分析,结果发现次信贷危机对这些因素的解释能力有明显的影响。  相似文献

There is a lack of consistent evidence that downsizing leads to improved financial performance. Lowered commitment after painful downsizing periods is identified as an important reason why downsizing does not show the intended long‐term effects. This paper provides a meta‐analytical overview of the impact of fairness on organizational commitment for survivors and victims after a downsizing operation. Among 37 samples (11,256 persons), a positive relationship was found between fairness and affective organizational commitment (ρ=0.40) for both survivors and victims. Three moderators of the fairness–commitment relationship were identified: (1) for survivors, procedural justice matters more than distributive justice; (2) the impact of fairness is stronger in countries with an individualistic (versus collectivistic) culture; (3) fairness matters more when mass layoff is initiated for profit maximization (versus economic necessity).  相似文献

Bankruptcy is designed to give the debtor another chance after a financial failure, and it is often an option that is both more ethical and more efficient than liquidation. We address some basic issues, such as whether Chapter 11 bankruptcy itself is ethical and what elements help one to decide if a particular bankruptcy is ethical. There are many chances for unethical acts during bankruptcy, such as the ethics of a firm that files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy yet has sufficient assets to meet its financial obligations, or the often exorbitant fees that bankruptcy professionals are allowed as well as the apparent partiality demonstrated in some bankruptcy courts.  相似文献

We present a dynamic policy simulation analysing what would have happened to wages, employment, and total hours had the federal minimum wage increased in September 1998, a year after the last actual increase in our data. Prior work suggests that employment responses take 6 years to play out. Using a time‐series model for 23 low‐wage industries, we find a positive response of average wages over 54 months following an increase in the minimum wage, but neither employment nor hours can be distinguished from random noise. Ignoring confidence intervals, the adjustment of hours is complete after 1 year, the adjustment of employment after no more than two and one half years.  相似文献

By using a unique and large data set on loan contracts between banks and microfirms, we find robust evidence that women in Italy pay more for credit than men, although we do not find any evidence that women borrowers are riskier than men. The male/female differential remains even after controlling for a large number of characteristics of the type of business, the borrower, and the structure of the credit market. The result is not driven by lack of credit history, nor by women using a different type of bank than men, since the same bank charges different rates to male and female borrowers.  相似文献

The effectiveness of the joint estimation (JE) outlier detection method as a process control technique for short autocorrelated time series is investigated and compared with exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA). The research goal is to determine the effectiveness of the method for detecting out-of-control observations when they are the last observation in a short autocorrelated time series. This is an important problem because detecting an outlier in the period when it occurs, rather than several periods after it occurs, will preclude the production of more defective units. Two cases are investigated: short simulated time series when normality is assumed, and short real time series when the assumption is violated. The results show that JE is effective for short time series, particularly for autoregressive series when normality is violated. Joint estimation is also effective for moving average series under the normality assumption and less effective when the assumption is violated. In all cases, JE is found to be more effective than EWMA.  相似文献

从理论和实证两个方面, 研究企业IPO对同行业上市公司的均衡价值及产品市场差异化竞争的影响.在已有研究基础上加入信息溢出效应, 基于动态产品市场竞争构建了一个微分博弈模型, 模型结果表明:IPO后在位上市公司相对行业竞争力低于临界值时, 其均衡价值减少; IPO前其相对行业竞争力高于临界值时, 其均衡价值增加.采用沪深A股、中小板与创业板的市场数据, 运用非线性最小二乘法估计动态结构化模型参数, 实证研究IPO对产品市场异质化竞争倾向的影响.实证结果表明, IPO后行业消费者忠诚度提高, 产品市场竞争倾向趋于异质化竞争, 在位上市公司的市场份额利润转化率提高.这说明我国IPO竞争效应占主导地位, 企业IPO对在位上市公司构成威胁, 在位上市公司采用差异化的产品竞争策略提高竞争力和盈利能力.  相似文献

Two studies were carried out in family-style restaurants to increase suggestive selling by waitstaff and to assess some of the natural contingencies that may influence suggestive selling. In the first study a combination of goal setting, feedback, and positive reinforcement was presented to waitstaff for suggestive selling of cocktails, appetizers, and desserts. Increases were not uniform across the three categories with desserts showing the greatest increase. The second study was designed to assess some of the possible controlling variables for selling by observing when waitstaff typically suggested cocktails, appetizers, and desserts in over 50 restaurants. Suggestions were more probable after dinner than after lunch and waitstaff were more likely to suggest dessert when the restaurant was not crowded than when it was full and busy. Suggestive selling appears to differ across individual waitstaff and may be differentially reinforced during non-peak times during the day.  相似文献

Although trust is fundamental to social and organizational functioning, the media often portray managers as distrusting, suggesting that distrust of others is a typical personality variable of successful leaders. This study puts the cliché of the distrustful manager to the test. Both self-report data (N = 32,926) and behavioral data (N = 924) from the German Socio-Economic Panel refute this cliché. Analyses reveal that individuals in managerial positions neither show a lower level of trust before, nor a systematic reduction in trust after attaining such positions. Moreover, analyses demonstrate that managers are generally more trusting than non-managers. This selection effect implies that individuals who trust others are more successful in achieving managerial positions than their less trusting counterparts.  相似文献

The quantity of heavy metals in soil is measured after 2‐mm sieving in Japan for risk assessment of direct soil ingestion. A study was conducted on the relationship between the size of soil particles and quantity of heavy metals in soil, and the particle‐size distribution of soil adhered to children's hands, and the risks of direct intake of soil considering the particle sizes ingested were evaluated. The results showed that smaller particles had a tendency to contain more heavy metals than bigger ones, that the particle size of approximately 90% of the soil particles from playgrounds adhered to children's hands was less than 100 μm, and that 2‐mm sieving in preparation for measuring heavy metal content caused underestimation of the risk of direct soil intake. The amount of heavy metals on children's hands after playing outside was investigated. Various metals and soil were adhered to their hands, and the amount of soil adhered could be estimated from the concentration of metals. To develop accurate risk assessment, the particle‐size distribution of ingested soil and more detailed scenarios of soil intake are necessary.  相似文献

本文利用中国医药生物制品上市公司2003年1季度-2012年1季度的季度财务数据进行了验证性因子分析,构建了差异化和低成本两个因子以反映公司的竞争战略。在此基础上,利用向量自回归(VAR)和脉冲响应的思路考察了战略制定及实施后企业的绩效表现,确定了战略绩效的滞后程度。研究发现:竞争战略影响企业绩效表现出一定的时滞效应;且差异化战略影响企业绩效的滞后期长于低成本战略;同时竞争战略影响企业绩效具有持续性,即竞争战略能够给企业带来持续的竞争优势,且差异化战略影响企业绩效的持续时间相比低成本战略也更长。最后,实证结果还发现,在医药生物制品行业,差异化战略相比低成本战略实施难度更大,风险更高,实施成功的可能性越小。  相似文献

This paper empirically investigates the effect of going public on the evolution of high-tech entrepreneurial firms, focussing in particular on the interaction between innovation variables and financing and investment strategies. Specifically, I confront the effects of the IPO on firms with higher R&D investments versus firms with more patents. Firms with higher R&D investments typically view the IPO as a mechanism to raise external equity, used to pursue investments and to acquire participation in other companies, whereas those with more patents raise more debt capital and invest less after the IPO, as compared to high-tech entrepreneurial firms. I suggest that a large number of patents is an index of technological maturity for high-tech ventures, even more than age and size, that helps investors to individuate firms with a lower level of risk.  相似文献
