Looking Towards the 1995 World Women's Conference——the second international seminar on women's studies

Women's development is a process. It is also a process to await the Fourth World Conference on Women to be held in Beijing in 1995, a process to further mobilize women from various countries to gain equality between the sexes and to take a part in social development. The second international seminar on women's studies was held from November 23 to 26, 1993, at Beijing University in preparation for this day. Some 100 women researchers from Australia, Bangladesh', Canada, the United States, England, Malaysia and Japan, as well as Hong Kong and China participated in the event. It was one of the most lively and active seminars held during this process. To take prompt action in development was a common nderstanding of the participants.     

Tianjin Normal University Establishes Women's Studies Center

IN July, 1993, an international seminar titled "Chinese Women and Development—Status, Health and Employment" was sponsored by the Women's Studies Center at Tianjin Normal University. More than 100 international and domestic specialists and workers who deal with women's issues attended. At the conference, the Women's Research Institute of the All-China Women's Federation disclosed the results of an investigation about the status of women in China, which was launched in the early 1990s on a nationwide scale. The results showed that China's economic reform has greatly affected women. As a result, many researchers who began their research by considering China's present economic situation, tried to determine the influences the state's

Asian Women Parliamentarians,Ministers Focus on Education亚洲女议员女部长聚焦教育问题On November 27 and 28,2007,the Fifth Asian Women Parliamentarians' and Ministers' Conference was held in Beijing. The event was sponsored by the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development,and co-hosted by the Education,Science,Culture and Public Health Committee of the National People's Congress(NPC)and the All-China Women's Federation(ACWF).

Improving Health Services for Rural Pregnant and Lying-in Women——Achievements in the Reproductive Health Program of Chinese Women

FROM 1992 to 1997, the All-China Women's Federation organized and implemented a reproductive health program for Chinese women, which was sponsored by the American Ford Foundation. The program was divided into two phases. The first phase, lasting from 1992 to 1994, focused on locating problems and studying them. Women's federations from 16 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions throughout China formed a research group and conducted extensive studies in a variety of fields while cooperating with experts from sociology, medicine     

I Took Part in the Long March

Wei Xiuying was born in Ruijin, Jiangxi Province. She joined the Communist Party of China in 1932, and served as directorfor Xingguo County Soviet Government Committee for the Improvement of Women's Life, and secretary in charge of women's work in Jiangxi Province.In October 1934, Wei Xiuying took part in the 25,000-li Long March with the Central Red Army.After liberation, she served as the first-term director of the Jiangxi Women's Federation. In the early 50s, it was she who first found that schistosomiasis was serious in Yujiang County, and reported this condition in a report to the National People's Congress. The very day Chairman Mao Zedong saw this report, he gave the order "eliminate this plague". Wei Xiuying was appointed as the deputy head for South China Land Reclamation and Cultivation Bureau in charge of the development of Hainan Island. Before retirement, she was the Vice President for Jiangxi Provincial Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.Now, Wei Xiuying is 86 years old. Sh

1 Coring Seedlings' Project Launched“护苗工程”呵护亿万儿童A "Caring Seedlings" Project was launched in March in Beijing by the All-China Women's Federation to promote Chinese children's comprehensive de-velopment. The program focuses on nutrition, physical strength, psychological health and intellectual power. The China Children's Center was responsible for organizing and implementing the project.

Chinese Women's Forumon Employment Opens in Beijing中国妇女就业论坛在北京召开The Chinese Women's Forum on Employment was held on December 15, 2002 in Beijing. It was sponsored by the All-China Women's Federation and Chinese Women's Research Society. About 300 leaders, experts and scholars attended the forum. They discussed how to promote women's employment and the need to draft and improve policies regarding gender equality in the workforce.Discussions focused on ways of expanding employment opportunities for women, promoting professional development programs for both men and women, and ways of ensuring pay and benefits equity between men and women.

Chinese Women's College

Chinese Women's College is located in Yuhuidong Road, in northeast Beijing. The name of the college was written by Jiang Zemin, President of the People's Republic of China in August 1995 to honor the school.

Women's Bookstore and Women's Monthly

THERE were three women's magazines published in China before the War of Resistance Against Japan (1937-1945)—Journal of Women by the Commercial Press, Life of Women by the Life Publishing House and Women's Monthly, by the Women's Bookstore. The Women's Bookstore was also the only one that published books especially for women readers.
