This article develops combined exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charts for the mean and variance of a normal distribution. A Bayesian approach is used to incorporate parameter uncertainty. We first use a Bayesian predictive distribution to construct the control chart, and we then use a sampling theory approach to evaluate it under various hypothetical specifications for the data generation model. Simulations are used to compare the proposed charts for different values of both the weighing constant for the exponentially weighted moving averages and for the size of the calibration sample that is used to estimate the in-statistical-control process parameters. We also examine the separate performance of the EWMA chart for the variance.  相似文献

We consider Bayesian analysis of threshold autoregressive moving average model with exogenous inputs (TARMAX). In order to obtain the desired marginal posterior distributions of all parameters including the threshold value of the two-regime TARMAX model, we use two different Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods to apply Gibbs sampler with Metropolis-Hastings algorithm. The first one is used to obtain iterative least squares estimates of the parameters. The second one includes two MCMC stages for estimate the desired marginal posterior distributions and the parameters. Simulation experiments and a real data example show support to our approaches.  相似文献

This article deals with the construction of an X? control chart using the Bayesian perspective. We obtain new control limits for the X? chart for exponentially distributed data-generating processes through the sequential use of Bayes’ theorem and credible intervals. Construction of the control chart is illustrated using a simulated data example. The performance of the proposed, standard, tolerance interval, exponential cumulative sum (CUSUM) and exponential exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control limits are examined and compared via a Monte Carlo simulation study. The proposed Bayesian control limits are found to perform better than standard, tolerance interval, exponential EWMA and exponential CUSUM control limits for exponentially distributed processes.  相似文献

A finite mixture model using the multivariate t distribution has been shown as a robust extension of normal mixtures. In this paper, we present a Bayesian approach for inference about parameters of t-mixture models. The specifications of prior distributions are weakly informative to avoid causing nonintegrable posterior distributions. We present two efficient EM-type algorithms for computing the joint posterior mode with the observed data and an incomplete future vector as the sample. Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling schemes are also developed to obtain the target posterior distribution of parameters. The advantages of Bayesian approach over the maximum likelihood method are demonstrated via a set of real data.  相似文献

We consider a Bayesian analysis method of paired survival data using a bivariate exponential model proposed by Moran (1967, Biometrika 54:385–394). Important features of Moran’s model include that the marginal distributions are exponential and the range of the correlation coefficient is between 0 and 1. These contrast with the popular exponential model with gamma frailty. Despite these nice properties, statistical analysis with Moran’s model has been hampered by lack of a closed form likelihood function. In this paper, we introduce a latent variable to circumvent the difficulty in the Bayesian computation. We also consider a model checking procedure using the predictive Bayesian P-value.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider an effective Bayesian inference for censored Student-t linear regression model, which is a robust alternative to the usual censored Normal linear regression model. Based on the mixture representation of the Student-t distribution, we propose a non-iterative Bayesian sampling procedure to obtain independently and identically distributed samples approximately from the observed posterior distributions, which is different from the iterative Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm. We conduct model selection and influential analysis using the posterior samples to choose the best fitted model and to detect latent outliers. We illustrate the performance of the procedure through simulation studies, and finally, we apply the procedure to two real data sets, one is the insulation life data with right censoring and the other is the wage rates data with left censoring, and we get some interesting results.  相似文献

We discuss posterior sampling for two distinct multivariate generalisations of the univariate autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model with fractional integration. The existing approach to Bayesian estimation, introduced by Ravishanker & Ray, claims to provide a posterior‐sampling algorithm for fractionally integrated vector autoregressive moving averages (FIVARMAs). We show that this algorithm produces posterior draws for vector autoregressive fractionally integrated moving averages (VARFIMAs), a model of independent interest that has not previously received attention in the Bayesian literature.  相似文献

In modelling financial return time series and time-varying volatility, the Gaussian and the Student-t distributions are widely used in stochastic volatility (SV) models. However, other distributions such as the Laplace distribution and generalized error distribution (GED) are also common in SV modelling. Therefore, this paper proposes the use of the generalized t (GT) distribution whose special cases are the Gaussian distribution, Student-t distribution, Laplace distribution and GED. Since the GT distribution is a member of the scale mixture of uniform (SMU) family of distribution, we handle the GT distribution via its SMU representation. We show this SMU form can substantially simplify the Gibbs sampler for Bayesian simulation-based computation and can provide a mean of identifying outliers. In an empirical study, we adopt a GT–SV model to fit the daily return of the exchange rate of Australian dollar to three other currencies and use the exchange rate to US dollar as a covariate. Model implementation relies on Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms using the WinBUGS package.  相似文献

Most existing reduced-form macroeconomic multivariate time series models employ elliptical disturbances, so that the forecast densities produced are symmetric. In this article, we use a copula model with asymmetric margins to produce forecast densities with the scope for severe departures from symmetry. Empirical and skew t distributions are employed for the margins, and a high-dimensional Gaussian copula is used to jointly capture cross-sectional and (multivariate) serial dependence. The copula parameter matrix is given by the correlation matrix of a latent stationary and Markov vector autoregression (VAR). We show that the likelihood can be evaluated efficiently using the unique partial correlations, and estimate the copula using Bayesian methods. We examine the forecasting performance of the model for four U.S. macroeconomic variables between 1975:Q1 and 2011:Q2 using quarterly real-time data. We find that the point and density forecasts from the copula model are competitive with those from a Bayesian VAR. During the recent recession the forecast densities exhibit substantial asymmetry, avoiding some of the pitfalls of the symmetric forecast densities from the Bayesian VAR. We show that the asymmetries in the predictive distributions of GDP growth and inflation are similar to those found in the probabilistic forecasts from the Survey of Professional Forecasters. Last, we find that unlike the linear VAR model, our fitted Gaussian copula models exhibit nonlinear dependencies between some macroeconomic variables. In this article, we discuss finding the optimal k of (i) kth simple moving average, (ii) kth weighted moving average, and (iii) kth exponential weighted moving average based on simulated ARIMA(p, d, q) model. We run a simulation using the three above examining methods under specific conditions. The main finding is that 5th exponential weighted moving average (5th EWMA) ARIMA model is the best forecasting model among others, which means the optimal k = 5. For Turkish Telecommunications (TTKOM) stock market, real data reveal the similar results of simulation study.  相似文献

In this article, the simple step-stress model is considered based on generalized Type-I hybrid censored data from the exponential distribution. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown parameters are derived assuming a cumulative exposure model. We then derive the exact distributions of the MLEs of the parameters using conditional moment generating functions. The Bayesian estimators of the parameters are derived and then compared with the MLEs. We also derive confidence intervals for the parameters using these exact distributions, asymptotic distributions of the MLEs, Bayesian, and the parametric bootstrap methods. The problem of determining the optimal stress-changing point is discussed and the MLEs of the pth quantile and reliability functions at the use condition are obtained. Finally, Monte Carlo simulation and some numerical results are presented for illustrating all the inferential methods developed here.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the class of beta seasonal autoregressive moving average (βSARMA) models for modelling and forecasting time series data that assume values in the standard unit interval. It generalizes the class of beta autoregressive moving average models [Rocha AV and Cribari-Neto F. Beta autoregressive moving average models. Test. 2009;18(3):529–545] by incorporating seasonal dynamics to the model dynamic structure. Besides introducing the new class of models, we develop parameter estimation, hypothesis testing inference, and diagnostic analysis tools. We also discuss out-of-sample forecasting. In particular, we provide closed-form expressions for the conditional score vector and for the conditional Fisher information matrix. We also evaluate the finite sample performances of conditional maximum likelihood estimators and white noise tests using Monte Carlo simulations. An empirical application is presented and discussed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The display of the data by means of contingency tables is used in different approaches to statistical inference, for example, to broach the test of homogeneity of independent multinomial distributions. We develop a Bayesian procedure to test simple null hypotheses versus bilateral alternatives in contingency tables. Given independent samples of two binomial distributions and taking a mixed prior distribution, we calculate the posterior probability that the proportion of successes in the first population is the same as in the second. This posterior probability is compared with the p-value of the classical method, obtaining a reconciliation between both results, classical and Bayesian. The obtained results are generalized for r × s tables.  相似文献

On Parametric Bootstrapping and Bayesian Prediction   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Abstract.  We investigate bootstrapping and Bayesian methods for prediction. The observations and the variable being predicted are distributed according to different distributions. Many important problems can be formulated in this setting. This type of prediction problem appears when we deal with a Poisson process. Regression problems can also be formulated in this setting. First, we show that bootstrap predictive distributions are equivalent to Bayesian predictive distributions in the second-order expansion when some conditions are satisfied. Next, the performance of predictive distributions is compared with that of a plug-in distribution with an estimator. The accuracy of prediction is evaluated by using the Kullback–Leibler divergence. Finally, we give some examples.  相似文献

This study approaches the Bayesian identification of moving average processes using an approximate likelihood function and a normal gamma prior density. The marginal posterior probability mass function of the model order is developed in a convenient form. Then one may investigate the posterior probabilities over the grid of the order and choose the order with the highest probability to solve the identification problem. A comprehensive simulation study is carried out to demonstrate the performance of the proposed procedure and check its adequacy in handling the identification problem. In addition, the proposed Bayesian procedure is compared with some non Bayesian automatic techniques and another Bayesian technique. The numerical results support the adequacy of using the proposed procedure in solving the identification problem of moving average processes.  相似文献

In this paper we present decomposable priors, a family of priors over structure and parameters of tree belief nets for which Bayesian learning with complete observations is tractable, in the sense that the posterior is also decomposable and can be completely determined analytically in polynomial time. Our result is the first where computing the normalization constant and averaging over a super-exponential number of graph structures can be performed in polynomial time. This follows from two main results: First, we show that factored distributions over spanning trees in a graph can be integrated in closed form. Second, we examine priors over tree parameters and show that a set of assumptions similar to Heckerman, Geiger and Chickering (1995) constrain the tree parameter priors to be a compactly parametrized product of Dirichlet distributions. Besides allowing for exact Bayesian learning, these results permit us to formulate a new class of tractable latent variable models in which the likelihood of a data point is computed through an ensemble average over tree structures.  相似文献

Skew-normal/independent distributions are a class of asymmetric thick-tailed distributions that include the skew-normal distribution as a special case. In this paper, we explore the use of Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods to develop a Bayesian analysis in multivariate measurement errors models. We propose the use of skew-normal/independent distributions to model the unobserved value of the covariates (latent variable) and symmetric normal/independent distributions for the random errors term, providing an appealing robust alternative to the usual symmetric process in multivariate measurement errors models. Among the distributions that belong to this class of distributions, we examine univariate and multivariate versions of the skew-normal, skew-t, skew-slash and skew-contaminated normal distributions. The results and methods are applied to a real data set.  相似文献

In this article, we discuss finding the optimal k of (i) kth simple moving average, (ii) kth weighted moving average, and (iii) kth exponential weighted moving average based on simulated autoregressive AR(p) model. We run a simulation using the three above examining method under specific conditions. The main finding is that the optimal k = 4 and then k = 3. Especially, the fourth WMA ARIMA model, fourth EWMA ARIMA model, and third EWMA ARIMA model are the best forecasting models among others, respectively. For all the six real data reveal the similar results of simulation study.  相似文献

This study takes up inference in linear models with generalized error and generalized t distributions. For the generalized error distribution, two computational algorithms are proposed. The first is based on indirect Bayesian inference using an approximating finite scale mixture of normal distributions. The second is based on Gibbs sampling. The Gibbs sampler involves only drawing random numbers from standard distributions. This is important because previously the impression has been that an exact analysis of the generalized error regression model using Gibbs sampling is not possible. Next, we describe computational Bayesian inference for linear models with generalized t disturbances based on Gibbs sampling, and exploiting the fact that the model is a mixture of generalized error distributions with inverse generalized gamma distributions for the scale parameter. The linear model with this specification has also been thought not to be amenable to exact Bayesian analysis. All computational methods are applied to actual data involving the exchange rates of the British pound, the French franc, and the German mark relative to the U.S. dollar.  相似文献

In this article, we develop an empirical Bayesian approach for the Bayesian estimation of parameters in four bivariate exponential (BVE) distributions. We have opted for gamma distribution as a prior for the parameters of the model in which the hyper parameters have been estimated based on the method of moments and maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs). A simulation study was conducted to compute empirical Bayesian estimates of the parameters and their standard errors. We use moment estimators or MLEs to estimate the hyper parameters of the prior distributions. Furthermore, we compare the posterior mode of parameters obtained by different prior distributions and the Bayesian estimates based on gamma priors are very close to the true values as compared to improper priors. We use MCMC method to obtain the posterior mean and compared the same using the improper priors and the classical estimates, MLEs.  相似文献
