We give a general procedure to characterize multivariate distributions by using products of the hazard gradient and mean residual life components. This procedure is applied to characterize multivariate distributions as Gumbel exponential, Lomax, Burr, Pareto and generalized Pareto multivariate distributions. Our results extend the results of several authors and can be used to study how to extend univariate models to the multivariate set-up.  相似文献

A new multivariate inverse Polya distribution of order k, type I, is derived by means of a generalized urn scheme and by compounding the multivariate negative binomial distribution of order k, type I, of Philippou, Antzoulakos and Tripsiannis (1988) with the Dirichlet distribution. It is noted that this new distribution includes as special cases a new multivariate inverse hypergeometric distribution of order k and a new multivariate negative inverse one of the same order. The mean and variance-covariance of the multivariate inverse Polya distribution of order k, type I, are derived, and two known distributions of the same order are shown to be limiting cases of it.  相似文献

We consider a general class of asymmetric univariate distributions depending on a real-valued parameter α, which includes the entire family of univariate symmetric distributions as a special case. We discuss the connections between our proposal and other families of skew distributions that have been studied in the statistical literature. A key element in the construction of such families of distributions is that they can be stochastically represented as the product of two independent random variables. From this representation we can readily derive theoretical properties, easy-to-implement simulation schemes as well as extensions to the multivariate case. We also study statistical inference for this class based on the method of moments and maximum likelihood. We give special attention to the skew-power exponential distribution, but other cases like the skew-t distribution are also considered. Finally, the statistical methods are illustrated with 3 examples based on real datasets.  相似文献

In this paper, recurrence relations from a general class of doubly truncated continuous distributions which are satisfied by single as well as product moments of order statistics are obtained. Recurrence relations from doubly truncated generalized Weibull, exponential, Raleigh and logistic distributions have been derived as special cases of our result, Some previous results for doubly truncated Weibull, standard exponential, power function and Burr type XII distributions are obtained as special cases. The general recurrence relation of single moments has been used in the case of the left and right truncation to characterize the Weibull, Burr type XII and Pareto distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, a new five-parameter lifetime distribution called beta generalized linear exponential distribution (BGLED) is introduced. It includes at least 17 popular sub-models as special cases such as the beta linear exponential, the beta generalized exponential, and the exponentiated generalized linear distributions. Mathematical and statistical properties of the proposed distribution are discussed in details. In particular, explicit expression for the density function, moments, asymptotics distributions for sample extreme statistics, and other statistical measures are obtained. The estimation of the parameters by the method of maximum-likelihood is discussed and the finite sample properties of the maximum-likelihood estimators (MLEs) are investigated numerically. A real data set is used to demonstrate its superior performance fit over several existing popular lifetime models.  相似文献

A new distribution called the beta generalized exponential distribution is proposed. It includes the beta exponential and generalized exponential (GE) distributions as special cases. We provide a comprehensive mathematical treatment of this distribution. The density function can be expressed as a mixture of generalized exponential densities. This is important to obtain some mathematical properties of the new distribution in terms of the corresponding properties of the GE distribution. We derive the moment generating function (mgf) and the moments, thus generalizing some results in the literature. Expressions for the density, mgf and moments of the order statistics are also obtained. We discuss estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood and obtain the information matrix that is easily numerically determined. We observe in one application to a real skewed data set that this model is quite flexible and can be used effectively in analyzing positive data in place of the beta exponential and GE distributions.  相似文献

Bayesian predictive density functions, which are necessary to obtain bounds for predictive intervals of future order statistics, are obtained when the population density is a finite mixture of general components. Such components include, among others, the Weibull (exponential and Rayleigh as special cases), compound Weibull (three-parameter Burr type XII), Pareto, beta, Gompertz and compound Gompertz distributions. The prior belief of the experimenter is measured by a general distribution that was suggested by AL-Hussaini (J. Statist. Plann. Inf. 79 (1999b) 79). Applications to finite mixtures of Weibull and Burr type XII components are illustrated and comparison is made, in the special cases of the exponential and Pareto type II components, with previous results.  相似文献

A general family of univariate distributions generated by beta random variables, proposed by Jones, has been discussed recently in the literature. This family of distributions possesses great flexibility while fitting symmetric as well as skewed models with varying tail weights. In a similar vein, we define here a family of univariate distributions generated by Stacy’s generalized gamma variables. For these two families of univariate distributions, we discuss maximum entropy characterizations under suitable constraints. Based on these characterizations, an expected ratio of quantile densities is proposed for the discrimination of members of these two broad families of distributions. Several special cases of these results are then highlighted. An alternative to the usual method of moments is also proposed for the estimation of the parameters, and the form of these estimators is particularly amenable to these two families of distributions.  相似文献

We study a new family of continuous distributions with two extra shape parameters called the Burr generalized family of distributions. We investigate the shapes of the density and hazard rate function. We derive explicit expressions for some of its mathematical quantities. The estimation of the model parameters is performed by maximum likelihood. We prove the flexibility of the new family by means of applications to two real data sets. Furthermore, we propose a new extended regression model based on the logarithm of the Burr generalized distribution. This model can be very useful to the analysis of real data and provide more realistic fits than other special regression models.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

An order k (or cluster) generalized Polya distribution and a multivariate generalized Polya-Eggenberger one where derived in (Sen, K.; Jain, R. Cluster Generalized Negative Binomial Distribution. In Probability Models and Statistics, A. J. Medhi Festschrift on the Occasion of his 70th Birthday; Borthakur, A.C. et al., Eds.; New Age International Publishers: New Delhi, 1996; 227–241 and Sen, K.; Jain, R. A Multivariate Generalized Polya-Eggenberger Probability Model-First Passage Approach. Communications in Statistics—Theory and Methods 1997, 26, 871–884). Presently, both distributions are generalized to a multivariate generalized Polya distribution of order k by means of an appropriate sampling scheme and a first passage event. This new distribution includes as special cases new multivariate Polya and inverse Polya distributions of order k and the multivariate generalized negative binomial distribution of the same order derived recently in (Tripsiannis, G.A.; Philippou, A.N.; Papathanasiou, A.A. Multivariate Generalized Distributions of Order k. Medical Statistics Technical Report #41: Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, 2001). Limiting cases are considered and applications are indicated.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose novel methods of quantifying expert opinion about prior distributions for multinomial models. Two different multivariate priors are elicited using median and quartile assessments of the multinomial probabilities. First, we start by eliciting a univariate beta distribution for the probability of each category. Then we elicit the hyperparameters of the Dirichlet distribution, as a tractable conjugate prior, from those of the univariate betas through various forms of reconciliation using least-squares techniques. However, a multivariate copula function will give a more flexible correlation structure between multinomial parameters if it is used as their multivariate prior distribution. So, second, we use beta marginal distributions to construct a Gaussian copula as a multivariate normal distribution function that binds these marginals and expresses the dependence structure between them. The proposed method elicits a positive-definite correlation matrix of this Gaussian copula. The two proposed methods are designed to be used through interactive graphical software written in Java.  相似文献

We propose a four-parameter extended generalized gamma model, which includes as special cases some important distributions and it is very useful for modeling lifetime data. A advantage is that it can represent the error distribution for a new heteroscedastic log-odd log-logistic generalized gamma regression model. The proposed heteroscedastic regression model can be used more effectively in the analysis of survival data since it includes as special models several widely-known regression models. Further, for different parameter settings, sample sizes and censoring percentages, various simulations are performed. Overall, the new regression model is very useful to the analysis of real data.  相似文献

Properties of a scaled Burr type X distribution are given. Closed-form expressions for the moments only exist for certain special cases, so upper and lower bounds for the first moment are given, as well as an approximation based on these bounds. Maximum likelihood estimation is considered, and the asymptotic properties of these estimators are discussed for i.i.d. samples, as well as for Types I and II censoring. Finally, an extension to a multivariate Burr type X distribution is introduced.  相似文献

New Polya and inverse Polya distributions of order k are derived by means of generalized urn models and by compounding the binomial and negative binomial distributions of order k of Philippou (1986, 1983) with the beta distribution. It i s noted that the present Polpa distribution of order k includes as special cases a new hypergeometric distribution of order k, a negative one,an inverse one, and a discrete uniform of the same order. The probability generating functions, means and variances of the new distributions are obtained, and five asymptotic results are established relating them to the abovedmentioned binomial and negative binomial distributions of order k, and to the Poisson distribution of the same order of Philippou (1983).Moment estimates are also given and applications are indicated.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a formal simple proof for the existence and uniqueness of the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of the parameters of a general class of exponentiated distributions. This class includes the exponentiated (general) exponential, exponentiated Rayleigh (scaled Burr X) and exponentiated Pareto distributions, as special cases, and thus the proof given here establishes the existence and uniqueness of the MLEs for these important special cases as well.  相似文献

A broad spectrum of flexible univariate and multivariate models can be constructed by using a hidden truncation paradigm. Such models can be viewed as being characterized by a basic marginal density, a family of conditional densities and a specified hidden truncation point, or points. The resulting class of distributions includes the basic marginal density as a special case (or as a limiting case), but also includes an array of models that may unexpectedly include many well known densities. Most of the well known skew-normal models (developed from the seed distribution popularized by Azzalini [(1985). A class of distributions which includes the normal ones. Scand. J. Statist. 12(2), 171–178]) can be viewed as being products of such a hidden truncation construction. However, the many hidden truncation models with non-normal component densities undoubtedly deserve further attention.  相似文献

A family of multivariate failure models that are suitable for describing the lifelength of components that operate under a random environment is derived. Important members of this family are the model by Lindley and Singpurwalla, the multivariate Burr, the Cauchy, F, the inverted beta, and the logistic distributions. Thus, much of what has been done in the area of multivariate failure models under random environments can be unified. The purpose of this article is to offer a streamlined perspective of the various contributions to this important topic, and to suggest that the proposed family be used as a starting point for modeling multivariate problems.  相似文献

Surles and Padgett recently introduced two-parameter Burr Type X distribution, which can also be described as the generalized Rayleigh distribution. It is observed that the generalized Rayleigh and log-normal distributions have many common properties and both the distributions can be used quite effectively to analyze skewed data set. For a given data set the problem of selecting either generalized Rayleigh or log-normal distribution is discussed in this paper. The ratio of maximized likelihood (RML) is used in discriminating between the two distributing functions. Asymptotic distributions of the RML under null hypotheses are obtained and they are used to determine the minimum sample size required in discriminating between these two families of distributions for a used specified probability of correct selection and the tolerance limit.  相似文献

The growth curve model introduced by Potthoff and Roy (1964) is a general statistical model which includes as special cases regression models and both univariate and multivariate analysis of variance models. In this paper, we discuss procedures for detection of outliers in growth curve models for mean-slippage and dispersion-slippage outlier model. The distributions of the test statistics are discussed and the values of significant probabilities are given using Bonferronl's bounds. Some simulation results are also presented.  相似文献

Some of the well known discrete distributions arise in a natural way through lattice path combinatorics (Mohanty, 1979). In this paper, we consider some discrete distributions from another point of view — as special cases of a generalized four-parameter Charlier distribution. Some properties of the distribution including recurrence relations for the mass function as well as for the moments and cumulants of the distribution are obtained. The distribution includes, as particular cases, negative binomial, Gegenbauer, and generalized Charlier distributions. Methods for fitting a three-parameter generalized Charlier distribution are indicated. The results are applied to data to which distributions were fitted earlier by Beall and Rescia (Biometrics, 1953) and Katti and Gurland (Biometrics, 1961). The distribution considered here appears to give better fit.  相似文献
