We propose a new procedure for combining multiple tests in samples of right-censored observations. The new method is based on multiple constrained censored empirical likelihood where the constraints are formulated as linear functionals of the cumulative hazard functions. We prove a version of Wilks’ theorem for the multiple constrained censored empirical likelihood ratio, which provides a simple reference distribution for the test statistic of our proposed method. A useful application of the proposed method is, for example, examining the survival experience of different populations by combining different weighted log-rank tests. Real data examples are given using the log-rank and Gehan-Wilcoxon tests. In a simulation study of two sample survival data, we compare the proposed method of combining tests to previously developed procedures. The results demonstrate that, in addition to its computational simplicity, the combined test performs comparably to, and in some situations more reliably than previously developed procedures. Rényi divergences are used to propose some statistics for testing general hypotheses in mixed linear regression models. The asymptotic distribution of these tests statistics, of the Kullback–Leibler and of the likelihood ratio statistics are provided, assuming that the sample size and the number of levels of the random factors tend to infinity. A simulation study is carried out to analyze and compare the behavior of the proposed tests when the sample size and number of levels are small.  相似文献

We define a class of count distributions which includes the Poisson as well as many alternative count models. Then the empirical probability generating function is utilized to construct a test for the Poisson distribution, which is consistent against this class of alternatives. The limit distribution of the test statistic is derived in case of a general underlying distribution, and efficiency considerations are addressed. A simulation study indicates that the new test is comparable in performance to more complicated omnibus tests.  相似文献

A procedure, based on sample spacings, is proposed for testing whether a univariate distribution is symmetric about some unknown value. The proposed test is a modification of a sign test suggested by Antille and Kersting [1977. Tests for symmetry. Z. Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie verw. Gebiete 39, 235–255], but unlike Antille and Kersting's test, our modified test is asymptotically distribution-free and is usable in practice. A simulation study indicates that the proposed test maintains the nominal level of significance, αα fairly accurately even for samples of size as small as 20, and a comparison with the classical test based on sample coefficient of skewness, shows that our test has good power for detecting different asymmetric distributions.  相似文献

A p-value is developed for testing the equivalence of the variances of a bivariate normal distribution. The unknown correlation coefficient is a nuisance parameter in the problem. If the correlation is known, the proposed p-value provides an exact test. For large samples, the p-value can be computed by replacing the unknown correlation by the sample correlation, and the resulting test is quite satisfactory. For small samples, it is proposed to compute the p-value by replacing the unknown correlation by a scalar multiple of the sample correlation. However, a single scalar is not satisfactory, and it is proposed to use different scalars depending on the magnitude of the sample correlation coefficient. In order to implement this approach, tables are obtained providing sub-intervals for the sample correlation coefficient, and the scalars to be used if the sample correlation coefficient belongs to a particular sub-interval. Once such tables are available, the proposed p-value is quite easy to compute since it has an explicit analytic expression. Numerical results on the type I error probability and power are reported on the performance of such a test, and the proposed p-value test is also compared to another test based on a rejection region. The results are illustrated with two examples: an example dealing with the comparability of two measuring devices, and an example dealing with the assessment of bioequivalence.  相似文献

Standard control charts are very sensitive to estimation effects and/or deviations from normality. Hence a program has been carried out to remedy these problems. This is quite adequate in most circumstances, but not in all. In the present paper, the remaining complication is attacked: what to do if a nonparametric approach is indicated, but too few control observations are available for the estimation step? It is shown that grouping the observations during the monitoring phase works well. Surprisingly, rather than using the group averages, it is definitely preferable to compare the minimum for each group to a suitably chosen upper control limit. (And in the two-sided case, also the maximum to an analogous lower control limit.) This ‘minimum control chart’ is demonstrated to be quite attractive: it is easy to explain and to implement. Moreover, while it is truly nonparametric, its power of detection is comparable to that of the customary, normality assuming, charts based on averages.  相似文献

The Pareto distribution is found in a large number of real world situations and is also a well-known model for extreme events. In the spirit of Neyman [1937. Smooth tests for goodness of fit. Skand. Aktuarietidskr. 20, 149–199] and Thomas and Pierce [1979. Neyman's smooth goodness-of-fit test when the hypothesis is composite. J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 74, 441–445], we propose a smooth goodness of fit test for the Pareto distribution family which is motivated by LeCam's theory of local asymptotic normality (LAN). We establish the behavior of the associated test statistic firstly under the null hypothesis that the sample follows a Pareto distribution and secondly under local alternatives using the LAN framework. Finally, simulations are provided in order to study the finite sample behavior of the test statistic.  相似文献

Abstract

In a 2-step monotone missing dataset drawn from a multivariate normal population, T2-type test statistic (similar to Hotelling’s T2 test statistic) and likelihood ratio (LR) are often used for the test for a mean vector. In complete data, Hotelling’s T2 test and LR test are equivalent, however T2-type test and LR test are not equivalent in the 2-step monotone missing dataset. Then we interest which statistic is reasonable with relation to power. In this paper, we derive asymptotic power function of both statistics under a local alternative and obtain an explicit form for difference in asymptotic power function. Furthermore, under several parameter settings, we compare LR and T2-type test numerically by using difference in empirical power and in asymptotic power function. Summarizing obtained results, we recommend applying LR test for testing a mean vector.  相似文献

In this paper we consider new families of residuals and influential measures, under the assumption of multinomial sampling, for loglinear models. These new families are based on φφ-divergence test statistic. The asymptotic normality of the standardized residuals is obtained as well as the relation of the new family of influential measures with the appropriate Cook's distance in this context. The expression of the new family of residuals is obtained in two important problems: independence and symmetry in two-dimensional contingence tables. In this article, we address the testing problem for additivity in nonparametric regression models. We develop a kernel‐based consistent test of a hypothesis of additivity in nonparametric regression, and establish its asymptotic distribution under a sequence of local alternatives. Compared to other existing kernel‐based tests, the proposed test is shown to effectively ameliorate the influence from estimation bias of the additive component of the nonparametric regression, and hence increase its efficiency. Most importantly, it avoids the tuning difficulties by using estimation‐based optimal criteria, while there is no direct tuning strategy for other existing kernel‐based testing methods. We discuss the usage of the new test and give numerical examples to demonstrate the practical performance of the test. The relative performance of a component of a series system in two different environments is considered. The conditional probability of the failure of the system due to the failure of the specified component given that the system failed before time t is regarded as a measure of relative importance of the component to the system. A U-statistic test for checking the equality of the relative importance of the component to the system in two different environments against the alternative that the relative importance is smaller in one of the environments, is proposed. Some simulation results for estimating the power of the test are reported. The proposed test is applied to one real data set and it is seen that a different aspect of the data is brought out by this comparison than that by the comparisons of the absolute importance functions such as the subsurvival functions, considered in earlier studies.  相似文献

Location-scale invariant Bickel–Rosenblatt goodness-of-fit tests (IBR tests) are considered in this paper to test the hypothesis that f, the common density function of the observed independent d-dimensional random vectors, belongs to a null location-scale family of density functions. The asymptotic behaviour of the test procedures for fixed and non-fixed bandwidths is studied by using an unifying approach. We establish the limiting null distribution of the test statistics, the consistency of the associated tests and we derive its asymptotic power against sequences of local alternatives. These results show the asymptotic superiority, for fixed and local alternatives, of IBR tests with fixed bandwidth over IBR tests with non-fixed bandwidth.  相似文献

Influence curves are defined for estimators of the ED50 in quantal bioassay, assuming a symmetic tolerance distribution. A definition of influence-curve robustness is suggested. Influence curves are obtained for L-,M- and R-estimators, and their robustness is investigated. The influence curve of the logistic maximum likelihood estimator is studied.  相似文献

Non-central chi-squared distribution plays a vital role in statistical testing procedures. Estimation of the non-centrality parameter provides valuable information for the power calculation of the associated test. We are interested in the statistical inference property of the non-centrality parameter estimate based on one observation (usually a summary statistic) from a truncated chi-squared distribution. This work is motivated by the application of the flexible two-stage design in case–control studies, where the sample size needed for the second stage of a two-stage study can be determined adaptively by the results of the first stage. We first study the moment estimate for the truncated distribution and prove its existence, uniqueness, and inadmissibility and convergence properties. We then define a new class of estimates that includes the moment estimate as a special case. Among this class of estimates, we recommend to use one member that outperforms the moment estimate in a wide range of scenarios. We also present two methods for constructing confidence intervals. Simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed point and interval estimates.  相似文献

A unified approach of parameter-estimation and goodness-of-fit testing is proposed. The new procedures may be applied to arbitrary laws with continuous distribution function. Specifically, both the method of estimation and the goodness-of-fit test are based on the idea of optimally transforming the original data to the uniform distribution, the criterion of optimality being an L2-type distance between the empirical characteristic function of the transformed data, and the characteristic function of the uniform (0,1)(0,1) distribution. Theoretical properties of the new estimators and tests are studied and some connections with classical statistics, moment-based procedures and non-parametric methods are investigated. Comparison with standard procedures via Monte Carlo is also included, along with a real-data application.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a simple linear regression model under heteroscedasticity and nonnormality. A statistical test for testing the regression coefficient is then derived by assuming normality for the random disturbances and by applying Welch's method. Some Monte Carlo studies are generated for assessing robustness of this test. By combining Tiku's robust procedure with the new test, a robust but more powerful test is developed.  相似文献

The problem of component wise estimation of ordered location parameters θ 1 (θ 1θ 2) of two independent exponential distributions is investigated. The scale parameters are assumed to be unequal but known. Independent random samples of unequal sample sizes are drawn from two populations and the estimators admissible among the mixed estimators of θ 1 and θ 2 are obtained. It is shown that the minimum risk estimators (MREs) of θ 1 and θ 2 without assuming θ 1θ 2 are inadmissible when one does assume that θ 1θ 2. The efficiencies of mixed estimators relative to MREs (without assuming θ 1θ 2) are tabulated for equal sample sizes and equal scale parameters.  相似文献

A harmonic new better than used in expectation (HNBUE) variable is a random variable which is dominated by an exponential distribution in the convex stochastic order. We use a recently obtained condition on stochastic equality under convex domination to derive characterizations of the exponential distribution and bounds for HNBUE variables based on the mean values of the order statistics of the variable. We apply the results to generate discrepancy measures to test if a random variable is exponential against the alternative that is HNBUE, but not exponential.  相似文献

In this study, we provide the Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern bivariate copula of rth and sth order statistics. The main emphasis in this study is on the inference procedure which is based on the maximum pseudo-likelihood estimate for the copula parameter. As for the methodology, goodness-of-fit test statistic for copulas which is based on a Cramér–von Mises functional of the empirical copula process is applied for selecting an appropriate model by bootstrapping. In this paper, we present a test of independence between the response variable, which can be discrete or continuous, and a continuous covariate after adjusting for heteroscedastic treatment effects. The method involves first augmenting each pair of the data for all treatments with a fixed number of nearest neighbours as pseudo‐replicates. Then a test statistic is constructed by taking the difference of two quadratic forms. The statistic is equivalent to the average lagged correlations between the response and nearest neighbour local estimates of the conditional mean of response given the covariate for each treatment group. This approach effectively eliminates the need to estimate the nonlinear regression function. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed test statistic is obtained under the null and local alternatives. Although using a fixed number of nearest neighbours pose significant difficulty in the inference compared to that allowing the number of nearest neighbours to go to infinity, the parametric standardizing rate for our test statistics is obtained. Numerical studies show that the new test procedure has robust power to detect nonlinear dependency in the presence of outliers that might result from highly skewed distributions.
