This paper proposes a variables quick switching system where the quality characteristic of interest follows a normal distribution and the quality characteristic is evaluated through a process loss function. Most of the variables sampling plans available in the literature focus only on the fraction non-conforming and those plans do not distinguish between the products that fall within the specification limits. The products that fall within specification limits may not be good if their mean is too away from the target value. So developing a sampling plan by considering process loss is inevitable in these situations. Based on this idea, we develop a variables quick switching system based on the process loss function for the application of the processes requiring low process loss. Tables are also constructed for the selection of parameters of variables quick switching system for given acceptable quality level and limiting quality level. The results are explained with examples.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Calculating the expected values of different types of random variables is a central topic in mathematical statistics. Targeted toward students and instructors in both introductory probability and statistics courses and graduate-level measure-theoretic probability courses, this pedagogical note casts light on a general expectation formula stated in terms of distribution and survival functions of random variables and discusses its educational merits. Often consigned to an end-of-chapter exercise in mathematical statistics textbooks with minimal discussion and presented under superfluous technical assumptions, this unconventional expectation formula provides an invaluable opportunity for students to appreciate the geometric meaning of expectations, which is overlooked in most undergraduate and graduate curricula, and serves as an efficient tool for the calculation of expected values that could be much more laborious by traditional means. For students’ benefit, this formula deserves a thorough in-class treatment in conjunction with the teaching of expectations. Besides clarifying some commonly held misconceptions and showing the pedagogical value of the expectation formula, this note offers guidance for instructors on teaching the formula taking the background of the target student group into account.  相似文献

It has long been known that for many joint distributions exhibiting weak dependence, the sample value of Spearman's rho is about 50% larger than the sample value of Kendall's tau. We explain this behavior by showing that for the population analogs of these statistics, the ratio of rho to tau approaches 3/23/2 as the joint distribution approaches that of two independent random variables. We also find sufficient conditions for determining the direction of the inequality between three times tau and twice rho when the underlying joint distribution is absolutely continuous.  相似文献

When two random variables are bivariate normally distributed Stein's original lemma allows to conveniently express the covariance of the first variable with a function of the second. Landsman and Neslehova (2008) extend this seminal result to the family of multivariate elliptical distributions. In this paper we use the technique of conditioning to provide a more elegant proof for their result. In doing so, we also present a new proof for the classical linear regression result that holds for the elliptical family.  相似文献

The multiple inference character of several tests in the same application is usually taken into consideration by requiring that the tests have a multiple level of significance. Also, a prediction problem in an application with several possible predictor variables requires that the multiple inference character of the problem be considered. This is not being done in the methods commonly used to choose predictor variables. Here, we discuss both the test and prediction methods in two-level factorial designs and suggest a principle for choosing variables which is based on multiple inference thinking. By an example use demonstrated that the principle proposed leads to the use of fewer prediction variables than does the Akaike method.  相似文献

In discriminant analysis it is often desirable to find a small subset of the variables that were measured on the individuals of known origin, to be used for classifying individuals of unknown origin. In this paper a Bayesian approach to variable selection is used that includes an additional subset of variables for future classification if the additional measurement costs for this subsst are lower than the resulting reduction in expected misclassification costs.  相似文献

This article given an efficient computer algorithm for a certain nonparametric regression method based on Kendall's rank correlation statistics. The method applies to experimental designs for which the set of covariates exhibits certain orthogonality properties, and the dependent variables is continuous. ABSTRACT

In some situations, for example, in biology or psychology studies, we wish to determine whether the linear relationship between response variable and predictor variables differs in two populations. The analysis of the covariance (ANCOVA) or, equivalently, the partial F-test approaches are the commonly used methods. In this study, the asymptotic distribution for the difference between two independent regression coefficients was established. The proposed method was used to derive the asymptotic confidence set for the difference between coefficients and hypothesis testing for the equality of the two regression models. Then a simulation study was conducted to compare the proposed method with the partial F method. The performance of the new method was comparable with that of the partial F method.  相似文献

We derive best-possible bounds on the class of copulas with known values at several points, under the assumption that the points are either in “increasing order” or in “decreasing order”. These bounds may be used to establish best-possible bounds on Kendall's τ and Spearman's ρ, for such copulas. An important special case is when the values of a copula are known at several diagonal points. We also use our results to establish best-possible bounds on the distribution function of the sum of two random variables with known marginal distributions when the values of the joint distribution function are known at several points.  相似文献

In this paper, Duncan's cost model combined Taguchi's quadratic loss function is applied to develop the economic-statistical design of the sum of squares exponentially weighted moving average (SS-EWMA) chart. The genetic algorithm is applied to search for the optimal decision variables of SS-EWMA chart such that the expected cost is minimized. Sensitivity analysis reveals that the optimal sample size and sampling interval decrease; optimal smoothing constant and control limit increase as the mean and/or variance increases. Moreover, the combination of optimal parameter levels in orthogonal array experiment plays an important guideline for monitoring the process mean and/or variance.  相似文献

This paper considers the finite integral moments for the ratio, R = X/Y, where X and Y re correlated gamma distributed variables. An analytical and numerical comparison is given for two classes of underlying bivariate gamma distributions. It is shown that the two bivariate gamma structures provide indentical experessions for the mth unadjussted moment, E(Rm), if and only if either of the following conditions hold : 1) X and Y are uncorrelated of 2) m=1. We consider the problem of testing the hypothesis that the correlation coefficient is stable in a sequence of n observations of independent, bivariate normal random variables against the alternative that the correlation coefficient changes after an unknown point t(t < n). We propose an estimate of the changepoint t and report on power comparisons between the commonly used test for this problem and our proposed test. The resistance of tests to acceptance and rejection of null hypotheses was denned and studied by Ylvisaker in the context of one-sample problems. This notion provides a measure of a test's resistance to outliers. In this paper, we propose an extension of this notion to rank-based tests of independence for bivariate random variables. We show, among other things, that Kendall's test of independence is more resistant than Spearman's test.  相似文献

It has long been known that, for many joint distributions, Kendall's τ and Spearman's ρ have different values, as they measure different aspects of the dependence structure. Although the classical inequalities between Kendall's τ and Spearman's ρ for pairs of random variables are given, the joint distributions which can attain the bounds between Kendall's τ and Spearman's ρ are difficult to find. We use the simulated annealing method to find the bounds for ρ in terms of τ and its corresponding joint distribution which can attain those bounds. Furthermore, using this same method, we find the improved bounds between τ and ρ, which is different from that given by Durbin and Stuart.  相似文献
