Abstract. We propose a spline‐based semiparametric maximum likelihood approach to analysing the Cox model with interval‐censored data. With this approach, the baseline cumulative hazard function is approximated by a monotone B‐spline function. We extend the generalized Rosen algorithm to compute the maximum likelihood estimate. We show that the estimator of the regression parameter is asymptotically normal and semiparametrically efficient, although the estimator of the baseline cumulative hazard function converges at a rate slower than root‐n. We also develop an easy‐to‐implement method for consistently estimating the standard error of the estimated regression parameter, which facilitates the proposed inference procedure for the Cox model with interval‐censored data. The proposed method is evaluated by simulation studies regarding its finite sample performance and is illustrated using data from a breast cosmesis study.  相似文献

Summary. The maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) for the proportional hazards model with partly interval-censored data is studied. Under appropriate regularity conditions, the MLEs of the regression parameter and the cumulative hazard function are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normal. Two methods to estimate the variance–covariance matrix of the MLE of the regression parameter are considered, based on a generalized missing information principle and on a generalized profile information procedure. Simulation studies show that both methods work well in terms of the bias and variance for samples of moderate size. An example illustrates the methods.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a frailty model for statistical inference in the case where we are faced with arbitrarily censored and truncated data. Our results extend those of Alioum and Commenges (1996), who developed a method of fitting a proportional hazards model to data of this kind. We discuss the identifiability of the regression coefficients involved in the model which are the parameters of interest, as well as the identifiability of the baseline cumulative hazard function of the model which plays the role of the infinite dimensional nuisance parameter. We illustrate our method with the use of simulated data as well as with a set of real data on transfusion-related AIDS.  相似文献

The likelihood function is often used for parameter estimation. Its use, however, may cause difficulties in specific situations. In order to circumvent these difficulties, we propose a parameter estimation method based on the replacement of the likelihood in the formula of the Bayesian posterior distribution by a function which depends on a contrast measuring the discrepancy between observed data and a parametric model. The properties of the contrast-based (CB) posterior distribution are studied to understand what the consequences of incorporating a contrast in the Bayes formula are. We show that the CB-posterior distribution can be used to make frequentist inference and to assess the asymptotic variance matrix of the estimator with limited analytical calculations compared to the classical contrast approach. Even if the primary focus of this paper is on frequentist estimation, it is shown that for specific contrasts the CB-posterior distribution can be used to make inference in the Bayesian way.The method was used to estimate the parameters of a variogram (simulated data), a Markovian model (simulated data) and a cylinder-based autosimilar model describing soil roughness (real data). Even if the method is presented in the spatial statistics perspective, it can be applied to non-spatial data.  相似文献

In this article, we shall attempt to introduce a new class of lifetime distributions, which enfolds several known distributions such as the generalized linear failure rate distribution and covers both positive as well as negative skewed data. This new four-parameter distribution allows for flexible hazard rate behavior. Indeed, the hazard rate function here can be increasing, decreasing, bathtub-shaped, or upside-down bathtub-shaped. We shall first study some basic distributional properties of the new model such as the cumulative distribution function, the density of the order statistics, their moments, and Rényi entropy. Estimation of the stress-strength parameter as an important reliability property is also studied. The maximum likelihood estimation procedure for complete and censored data and Bayesian method are used for estimating the parameters involved. Finally, application of the new model to three real datasets is illustrated to show the flexibility and potential of the new model compared to rival models.  相似文献

In this article, we propose semiparametric methods to estimate the cumulative incidence function of two dependent competing risks for left-truncated and right-censored data. The proposed method is based on work by Huang and Wang (1995). We extend previous model by allowing for a general parametric truncation distribution and a third competing risk before recruitment. Based on work by Vardi (1989), several iterative algorithms are proposed to obtain the semiparametric estimates of cumulative incidence functions. The asymptotic properties of the semiparametric estimators are derived. Simulation results show that a semiparametric approach assuming the parametric truncation distribution is correctly specified produces estimates with smaller mean squared error than those obtained in a fully nonparametric model.  相似文献

In this paper, a Bayesian framework using a joint transition model for analysing longitudinal mixed ordinal and continuous responses is considered. The joint model considers a multivariate mixed model for the responses in which a transitive cumulative logistic regression model and an autoregressive regression model are used to model ordinal and continuous responses, respectively. Also, to take into account the association between longitudinal ordinal and continuous responses, a dynamic association parameter is used. A test is conducted to see whether this parameter is time-invariant and another test is presented to see whether this parameter is equal to zero or significantly far from zero. Our approach is applied to longitudinal PIAT (Peabody Individual Achievement Test) data where the Bayesian estimates of parameters are obtained.  相似文献

We propose an extended hazard regression model which allows the spread parameter to be dependent on covariates. This allows a broad class of models which includes the most common hazard models, such as the proportional hazards model, the accelerated failure time model and a proportional hazards/accelerated failure time hybrid model with constant spread parameter. Simulations based on sub-classes of this model suggest that maximum likelihood performs well even when only small or moderate-size data sets are available and the censoring pattern is heavy. The methodology provides a broad framework for analysis of reliability and survival data. Two numerical examples illustrate the results.  相似文献

In this article, a new parameter estimation method, named E-Bayesian method, is considered to obtain the estimates of the unknown parameter and reliability function based on record values. The maximum likelihood, Bayesian, E-Bayesian, and hierarchical Bayesian estimates of the unknown parameter and reliability function are obtained when the underlying distribution belongs to the proportional hazard rate model. The Bayesian estimates are obtained based on squared error and linear-exponential loss functions. The previously obtained some relations for the E-Bayesian estimates are improved. The relationship between E-Bayesian and hierarchical Bayesian estimations are obtained under the same loss functions. The comparison of the derived estimates are carried out by using Monte Carlo simulations. Real data are analyzed for an illustration of the findings.  相似文献

A method of regularized discriminant analysis for discrete data, denoted DRDA, is proposed. This method is related to the regularized discriminant analysis conceived by Friedman (1989) in a Gaussian framework for continuous data. Here, we are concerned with discrete data and consider the classification problem using the multionomial distribution. DRDA has been conceived in the small-sample, high-dimensional setting. This method has a median position between multinomial discrimination, the first-order independence model and kernel discrimination. DRDA is characterized by two parameters, the values of which are calculated by minimizing a sample-based estimate of future misclassification risk by cross-validation. The first parameter is acomplexity parameter which provides class-conditional probabilities as a convex combination of those derived from the full multinomial model and the first-order independence model. The second parameter is asmoothing parameter associated with the discrete kernel of Aitchison and Aitken (1976). The optimal complexity parameter is calculated first, then, holding this parameter fixed, the optimal smoothing parameter is determined. A modified approach, in which the smoothing parameter is chosen first, is discussed. The efficiency of the method is examined with other classical methods through application to data.  相似文献

There are a variety of economic areas, such as studies of employment duration and of the durability of capital goods, in which data on important variables typically are censored. The standard techinques for estimating a model from censored data require the distributions of unobservable random components of the model to be specified a priori up to a finite set of parameters, and misspecification of these distributions usually leads to inconsistent parameter estimates. However, economic theory rarely gives guidance about distributions and the standard estimation techniques do not provide convenient methods for identifying distributions from censored data. Recently, several distribution-free or semiparametric methods for estimating censored regression models have been developed. This paper presents the results of using two such methods to estimate a model of employment duration. The paper reports the operating characteristics of the semiparametric estimators and compares the semiparametric estimates with those obtained from a standard parametric model.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates that well-known parameter estimation methods for Gaussian fields place different emphasis on the high and low frequency components of the data. As a consequence, the relative importance of the frequencies under the objective of the analysis should be taken into account when selecting an estimation method, in addition to other considerations such as statistical and computational efficiency. The paper also shows that when noise is added to the Gaussian field, maximum pseudolikelihood automatically sets the smoothing parameter of the model equal to one. A simulation study then indicates that generalised cross-validation is more robust than maximum likelihood un-

In this paper, a zero-inflated power series regression model for longitudinal count data with excess zeros is presented. We demonstrate how to calculate the likelihood for such data when it is assumed that the increment in the cumulative total follows a discrete distribution with a location parameter that depends on a linear function of explanatory variables. Simulation studies indicate that this method can provide improvements in obtaining standard errors of the estimates. We also calculate the dispersion index for this model. The influence of a small perturbation of the dispersion index of the zero-inflated model on likelihood displacement is also studied. The zero-inflated negative binomial regression model is illustrated on data regarding joint damage in psoriatic arthritis.  相似文献

The Lorenz curve relates the cumulative proportion of income to the cumulative proportion of population. When a particular functional form of the Lorenz curve is specified, it is typically estimated by linear or nonlinear least squares estimation techniques that have good properties when the error terms are independently and normally distributed. Observations on cumulative proportions are clearly neither independent nor normally distributed. This article proposes and applies a new methodology that recognizes the cumulative proportional nature of the Lorenz curve data by assuming that the income proportions are distributed as a Dirichlet distribution. Five Lorenz curve specifications are used to demonstrate the technique. Maximum likelihood estimates under the Dirichlet distribution assumption provide better fitting Lorenz curves than nonlinear least squares and another estimation technique that has appeared in the literature.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a bivariate Kumaraswamy (BVK) distribution whose marginals are Kumaraswamy distributions. The cumulative distribution function of this bivariate model has absolutely continuous and singular parts. Representations for the cumulative and density functions are presented and properties such as marginal and conditional distributions, product moments and conditional moments are obtained. We show that the BVK model can be obtained from the Marshall and Olkin survival copula and obtain a tail dependence measure. The estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood is discussed and the Fisher information matrix is determined. We propose an EM algorithm to estimate the parameters. Some simulations are presented to verify the performance of the direct maximum-likelihood estimation and the proposed EM algorithm. We also present a method to generate bivariate distributions from our proposed BVK distribution. Furthermore, we introduce a BVK distribution which has only an absolutely continuous part and discuss some of its properties. Finally, a real data set is analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this paper, E-Bayesian and hierarchical Bayesian estimations of the shape parameter, when the underlying distribution belongs to the proportional reversed hazard rate model, are considered. Maximum likelihood, Bayesian and E-Bayesian estimates of the unknown parameter and reliability function are obtained based on record values. The Bayesian estimates are derived based on squared error and linear–exponential loss functions. It is pointed out that some previously obtained order relations of E-Bayesian estimates are inadequate and these results are improved. The relationship between E-Bayesian and hierarchical Bayesian estimations is obtained under the same loss functions. The comparison of the derived estimates is carried out by using Monte Carlo simulations. A real data set is analysed for an illustration of the findings.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a partially linear single-index additive hazards model with current status data. Both the unknown link function of the single-index term and the cumulative baseline hazard function are approximated by B-splines under a monotonicity constraint on the latter. The sieve method is applied to estimate the nonparametric and parametric components simultaneously. We show that, when the nonparametric link function is an exact B-spline, the resultant estimator of regression parameter vector is asymptotically normal and achieves the semiparametric information bound and the rate of convergence of the estimator for the cumulative baseline hazard function is optimal. Simulation studies are presented to examine the finite sample performance of the proposed estimation method. For illustration, we apply the method to a clinical dataset with current status outcome.  相似文献

Magnetic resonance imaging techniques can be used to measure some biophysical properties of tissue. In this context, the T2 relaxation time is an important parameter for soft‐tissue contrast. The authors develop a new technique to estimate the integral of the distribution of T2 relaxation time without imposing any constraint other than the monotonicity of the underlying cumulative relaxation time distribution. They explore the properties of the estimation and its applications for the analysis of breast tissue data. As they show, an extension of linear discriminant analysis is found to distinguish well between two classes of breast tissue.  相似文献
