Boundary and Bias Correction in Kernel Hazard Estimation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A new class of local linear hazard estimators based on weighted least square kernel estimation is considered. The class includes the kernel hazard estimator of Ramlau-Hansen (1983), which has the same boundary correction property as the local linear regression estimator (see Fan & Gijbels, 1996). It is shown that all the local linear estimators in the class have the same pointwise asymptotic properties. We derive the multiplicative bias correction of the local linear estimator. In addition we propose a new bias correction technique based on bootstrap estimation of additive bias. This latter method has excellent theoretical properties. Based on an extensive simulation study where we compare the performance of competing estimators, we also recommend the use of the additive bias correction in applied work.  相似文献

Local Likelihood Estimation in Generalized Additive Models   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
ABSTRACT.  Generalized additive models are a popular class of multivariate non-parametric regression models, due in large part to the ease of use of the local scoring estimation algorithm. However, the theoretical properties of the local scoring estimator are poorly understood. In this article, we propose a local likelihood estimator for generalized additive models that is closely related to the local scoring estimator fitted by local polynomial regression. We derive the statistical properties of the estimator and show that it achieves the same asymptotic convergence rate as a one-dimensional local polynomial regression estimator. We also propose a wild bootstrap estimator for calculating point-wise confidence intervals for the additive component functions. The practical behaviour of the proposed estimator is illustrated through a simulation experiment.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce an alternative semiparametric estimator of the fractional differencing parameter in ARFIMA models which is robust against additive outliers. The proposed estimator is a variant of the GPH estimator [Geweke, J., Porter-Hudak, S., 1983. The estimation and application of long memory time series model. Journal of Time Series Analysis 4, 221–238]. In particular, we use the robust sample autocorrelations of Ma, Y. and Genton, M. [2000. Highly robust estimation of the autocovariance function. Journal of Time Series Analysis 21, 663–684] to obtain an estimator for the spectral density of the process. Numerical results show that the estimator we propose for the differencing parameter is robust when the data contain additive outliers.  相似文献

We propose an additive–multiplicative intensity model that extends the Cox regression model as well as the additive Aalen model. Instead of having a simple baseline intensity the extended model uses an additive Aalen model as its covariate dependent baseline. Approximate maximum likelihood estimators of the baseline intensity functions and the relative risk parameters of the Cox model are suggested by solving the score equations. The derived estimator is efficient. We establish the large sample properties of the estimator. The model provides a simple pragmatic way of including time-varying covariate effects.  相似文献

Abstract. In this paper, two non‐parametric estimators are proposed for estimating the components of an additive quantile regression model. The first estimator is a computationally convenient approach which can be viewed as a more viable alternative to existing kernel‐based approaches. The second estimator involves sequential fitting by univariate local polynomial quantile regressions for each additive component with the other additive components replaced by the corresponding estimates from the first estimator. The purpose of the extra local averaging is to reduce the variance of the first estimator. We show that the second estimator achieves oracle efficiency in the sense that each estimated additive component has the same variance as in the case when all other additive components were known. Asymptotic properties are derived for both estimators under dependent processes that are strictly stationary and absolutely regular. We also provide a demonstrative empirical application of additive quantile models to ambulance travel times.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to introduce a partially adaptive estimator for the censored regression model based on an error structure described by a mixture of two normal distributions. The model we introduce is easily estimated by maximum likelihood using an EM algorithm adapted from the work of Bartolucci and Scaccia (Comput Stat Data Anal 48:821–834, 2005). A Monte Carlo study is conducted to compare the small sample properties of this estimator to the performance of some common alternative estimators of censored regression models including the usual tobit model, the CLAD estimator of Powell (J Econom 25:303–325, 1984), and the STLS estimator of Powell (Econometrica 54:1435–1460, 1986). In terms of RMSE, our partially adaptive estimator performed well. The partially adaptive estimator is applied to data on wife’s hours worked from Mroz (1987). In this application we find support for the partially adaptive estimator over the usual tobit model.  相似文献

Given a multiple time series sharing common autoregressive patterns, we estimate an additive model. The autoregressive component and the individual random effects are estimated by integrating maximum likelihood estimation and best linear unbiased predictions in a backfitting algorithm. The simulation study illustrated that the estimation procedure provides an alternative to the Arellano–Bond generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator of the panel model when T > N and the Arellano–Bond generally diverges. The estimator has high predictive ability. In cases where T ≤ N, the backfitting estimator is at least comparable to Arellano–Bond estimator.  相似文献

The Cox regression model is often used when analyzing survival data as it provides a convenient way of summarizing covariate effects in terms of relative risks. The proportional hazards assumption may not hold, however. A typical violation of the assumption is time-changing covariate effects. Under such scenarios one may use more flexible models but the results from such models may be complicated to communicate and it is desirable to have simple measures of a treatment effect, say. In this paper we focus on the odds-of-concordance measure that was recently studied by Schemper et al. (Stat Med 28:2473?C2489, 2009). They suggested to estimate this measure using weighted Cox regression (WCR). Although WCR may work in many scenarios no formal proof can be established. We suggest an alternative estimator of the odds-of-concordance measure based on the Aalen additive hazards model. In contrast to the WCR, one may derive the large sample properties for this estimator making formal inference possible. The estimator also allows for additional covariate effects.  相似文献

The paper presents the essentials of the SURE model and the estimation of its parameters β and ω. Two alternative compact representations of the model are being used. The parameter β is estimated by least squares (LS), generalized least squares (GLS) and maximum likelihood (ML) (under normality). For ω two estimators are being considered, viz an LS-related estimator and a maximum likelihood estimator (under normality). Attention is being given to the study of asymptotic properties of all estimators examined. It turns out that the LS-related and ML estimators of ω follow the same asymptotic (normal) distribution. This paper focuses on the variable selection for semiparametric varying coefficient partially linear model when the covariates are measured with additive errors and the response is missing. An adaptive lasso estimator and the smoothly clipped absolute deviation estimator as a comparison for the parameters are proposed. With the proper selection of regularization parameter, the sampling properties including the consistency of the two procedures and the oracle properties are established. Furthermore, the algorithms and corresponding standard error formulas are discussed. A simulation study is carried out to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

Bagai and Prakasa Rao [Analysis of survival data with two dependent competing risks. Biometr J. 1992;7:801–814] considered a competing risks model with two dependent risks. The two risks are initially independent but dependence arises because of the additive effect of an independent risk on the two initially independent risks. They showed that the ratio of failure rates are identifiable in the nonparametric set-up. In this paper, we consider it as a measurement error/deconvolution problem and suggest a nonparametric kernel-type estimator for the ratio of two failure rates. The local error properties of the proposed estimator are studied. Simulation studies show the efficacy of the proposed estimator.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a kernel-based estimator for the finite-dimensional parameter of a partially additive linear quantile regression model. For dependent processes that are strictly stationary and absolutely regular, we establish a precise convergent rate and show that the estimator is root-n consistent and asymptotically normal. To help facilitate inferential procedures, a consistent estimator for the asymptotic variance is also provided. In addition to conducting a simulation experiment to evaluate the finite sample performance of the estimator, an application to US inflation is presented. We use the real-data example to motivate how partially additive linear quantile models can offer an alternative modeling option for time-series data.  相似文献

Partially linear additive model is useful in statistical modelling as a multivariate nonparametric fitting technique. This paper considers statistical inference for the semiparametric model in the presence of multicollinearity. Based on the profile least-squares (PL) approach and Liu estimation method, we propose a PL Liu estimator for the parametric component. When some additional linear restrictions on the parametric component are available, the corresponding restricted Liu estimator for the parametric component is constructed. The properties of the proposed estimators are derived. Some simulations are conducted to assess the performance of the proposed procedures and the results are satisfactory. Abstract

This article focuses on reducing the additional variance due to randomization of the responses. The idea of additive scrambling and its inverse has been used along with (i) split sample approach and (ii) double response approach. Specifically, our proposal is based on Gupta et al. (2006) randomized response model. We selected this model for improvement because it provides estimator of mean and sensitivity level of a sensitive variable and is better than all of its competitors proposed earlier to it and even Gupta et al. (2006) sensitivity estimator is better than that of Gupta et al. (2010). Our suggested estimators are unbiased estimators and perform better than Gupta et al. (2006) estimator. The issue of privacy protection is also discussed.  相似文献

A simple summary of a treatment effect is attractive, which is part of the explanation of the success of the Cox model when analysing time‐to‐event data since the relative risk measure is such a convenient summary measure. In practice, however, the Cox model may fail to give a reasonable fit, very often because of time‐changing treatment effect. The Aalen additive hazards model may be a good alternative as time‐changing effects are easily modelled within this model, but results are then evidently more complicated to communicate. In such situations, the odds of concordance measure (OC) is a convenient way of communicating results, and recently Martinussen & Pipper (2012) showed how a variant of the OC measure may be estimated based on the Aalen additive hazards model. In this study, we propose an estimator that should be preferred in observational studies as it always estimates the causal effect on the chosen scale, only assuming that there are no un‐measured confounders. The resulting estimator is shown to be consistent and asymptotically normal, and an estimator of its limiting variance is provided. Two real applications are provided.  相似文献

The additive AR-2D model has been successfully related to the modeling of satelital images both optic and of radar of synthetic opening. Having in mind the errors that are produced in the process of captation and quantification of the image, an interesting subject, is the robust estimation of the parameters in this model. Besides the robust methods in image models are also applied in some important image processing situations such as segmentation by texture and image restoration in the presence of outliers. This paper is concerned with the development and performance of the robust RA estimator proposed by Ojeda (1998) for the estimation of parameters in contaminated AR-2D models. Here, we implement this estimator and we show by simulation study that it has a better performance than the classic least square estimator and the robust M and GM estimators in an additive outlier contaminated image model.  相似文献

Kalucha et al. (Kalucha G., Gupta S., Dass B. K. (accepted). Ratio estimation of finite population mean using optional randomized response models. Journal of Statistical Theory and Practice) introduced an additive ratio estimator for finite population mean of a sensitive variable in simple random sampling without replacement and showed that this estimator performs better than the ordinary mean estimator based on an optional randomized response technique (RRT). In this paper, we introduce a regression estimator that performs better than the ratio estimator even for the modest correlation between the study and the auxiliary variables. A comparison of the proposed estimator with the corresponding ratio estimator and the ordinary RRT mean estimator is carried out theoretically, and is also illustrated with a simulation study.  相似文献

A general class of multivariate regression models is considered for repeated measurements with discrete and continuous outcome variables. The proposed model is based on the seemingly unrelated regression model (Zellner, 1962) and an extension of the model of Park and Woolson(1992). The regression parameters of the model are consistently estimated using the two-stage least squares method. When the out come variables are multivariate normal, the two-stage estimator reduces to Zellner’s two-stage estimator. As a special case, we consider the marginal distribution described by Liang and Zeger (1986). Under this this distributional assumption, we show that the two-stage estimator has similar asymptotic properties and comparable small sample properties to Liang and Zeger's estimator. Since the proposed approach is based on the least squares method, however, any distributional assumption is not required for variables outcome variables. As a result, the proposed estimator is more robust to the marginal distribution of outcomes.  相似文献

Whereas large-sample properties of the estimators of survival distributions using censored data have been studied by many authors, exact results for small samples have been difficult to obtain. In this paper we obtain the exact expression for the ath moment (a > 0) of the Bayes estimator of survival distribution using the censored data under proportional hazard model. Using the exact expression we compute the exact mean, variance and MSE of the Bayes estimator. Also two estimators ofthe mean survival time based on the Kaplan-Meier estimator and the Bayes estimator are compared for small samples under proportional hazards.  相似文献

Recurrent events are frequently encountered in biomedical studies. Evaluating the covariates effects on the marginal recurrent event rate is of practical interest. There are mainly two types of rate models for the recurrent event data: the multiplicative rates model and the additive rates model. We consider a more flexible additive–multiplicative rates model for analysis of recurrent event data, wherein some covariate effects are additive while others are multiplicative. We formulate estimating equations for estimating the regression parameters. The estimators for these regression parameters are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normally distributed under appropriate regularity conditions. Moreover, the estimator of the baseline mean function is proposed and its large sample properties are investigated. We also conduct simulation studies to evaluate the finite sample behavior of the proposed estimators. A medical study of patients with cystic fibrosis suffered from recurrent pulmonary exacerbations is provided for illustration of the proposed method.  相似文献
