For a shot-noise process X(t) with Poisson arrival times and exponentially diminishing shocks of i.i.d. sizes, we consider the first time T b at which a given level b > 0 is exceeded. An integral equation for the joint density of T b and X(T b ) is derived and, for the case of exponential jumps, solved explicitly in terms of Laplace transforms (LTs). In the general case we determine the ordinary LT of the function ? P(T b > t) in terms of certain LTs derived from the distribution function H(x; t) = P(X(t) ≤ x), considered as a function of both variables x and t. Moreover, for G(t, u) = P(T b > t, X(t) < u), that is the joint distribution function of sup0 ≤ st X(s) and X(t), an integro-differential equation is presented, whose unique solution is G(t, u).  相似文献

We consider the specific transformation of a Wiener process {X(t), t ≥ 0} in the presence of an absorbing barrier a that results when this process is “time-locked” with respect to its first passage time T a through a criterion level a, and the evolution of X(t) is considered backwards (retrospectively) from T a . Formally, we study the random variables defined by Y(t) ≡ X(T a  ? t) and derive explicit results for their density and mean, and also for their asymptotic forms. We discuss how our results can aid interpretations of time series “response-locked” to their times of crossing a criterion level.  相似文献

Results of an exhaustive study of the bias of the least square estimator (LSE) of an first order autoregression coefficient α in a contaminated Gaussian model are presented. The model describes the following situation. The process is defined as Xt = α Xt-1 + Yt . Until a specified time T, Yt are iid normal N(0, 1). At the moment T we start our observations and since then the distribution of Yt, tT, is a Tukey mixture T(εσ) = (1 – ε)N(0,1) + εN(0, σ2). Bias of LSE as a function of α and ε, and σ2 is considered. A rather unexpected fact is revealed: given α and ε, the bias does not change montonically with σ (“the magnitude of the contaminant”), and similarly, given α and σ, the bias is not growing with ε (“the amount of contaminants”).  相似文献

Let X=(X(t) : t≥0) be a Lévy process. In simulation, one often wants to know at what size it is possible to truncate the small jumps while retaining enough accuracy. A useful tool here is the Edgeworth expansion. We provide a third order expansion together with a uniform error bound, assuming third Lévy moment is 0. We next discuss approximating X in the finite variation case. Truncating the small jumps, we show that, adding their expected value, and further, including their variability by approximating by a Brownian motion, gives successively better results in general. Finally, some numerical illustrations involving a normal inverse Gaussian Lévy process are given.  相似文献

Let {X 1, …, X n } and {Y 1, …, Y m } be two samples of independent and identically distributed observations with common continuous cumulative distribution functions F(x)=P(Xx) and G(y)=P(Yy), respectively. In this article, we would like to test the no quantile treatment effect hypothesis H 0: F=G. We develop a bootstrap quantile-treatment-effect test procedure for testing H 0 under the location-scale shift model. Our test procedure avoids the calculation of the check function (which is non-differentiable at the origin and makes solving the quantile effects difficult in typical quantile regression analysis). The limiting null distribution of the test procedure is derived and the procedure is shown to be consistent against a broad family of alternatives. Simulation studies show that our proposed test procedure attains its type I error rate close to the pre-chosen significance level even for small sample sizes. Our test procedure is illustrated with two real data sets on the lifetimes of guinea pigs from a treatment-control experiment.  相似文献

We consider a centered stochastic process {X(t):tT} with known and continuous covariance function. On the basis of observations X(t1), …, X(tn) we approximate the whole path by orthogonal projection and measure the performance of the chosen design d = (t1, …, tn)′ by the corresponding mean squared L2-distance. For covariance functions on T2 = [0, 1]2, which satisfy a generalized Sacks-Ylvisaker regularity condition of order zero, we construct asymptotically optimal sequences of designs. Moreover, we characterize the achievement of a lower error bound, given by Micchelli and Wahba (1981), and study the question of whether this bound can be attained.  相似文献

Fix r ≥ 1, and let {Mnr} be the rth largest of {X1,X2,…Xn}, where X1,X2,… is a sequence of i.i.d. random variables with distribution function F. It is proved that P[Mnr ≤ un i.o.] = 0 or 1 according as the series Σn=3Fn(un)(log log n)r/n converges or diverges, for any real sequence {un} such that n{1 -F(un)} is nondecreasing and divergent. This generalizes a result of Bamdorff-Nielsen (1961) in the case r = 1.  相似文献

Let Xi, 1 ≤ in, be independent identically distributed random variables with a common distribution function F, and let G be a smooth distribution function. We derive the limit distribution of α(Fn, G) - α(F, G)}, where Fn is the empirical distribution function based on X1,…,Xn and α is a Kolmogorov-Lévy-type metric between distribution functions. For α ≤ 0 and two distribution functions F and G the metric pα is given by pα(F, G) = inf {? ≤ 0: G(x - α?) - ? F(x)G(x + α?) + ? for all x ?}.  相似文献

In this study, we introduce the Heine process, {Xq(t), t > 0}, 0 < q < 1, where the random variable Xq(t), for every t > 0, represents the number of events (occurrences or arrivals) during a time interval (0, t]. The Heine process is introduced as a q-analog of the basic Poisson process. Also, in this study, we prove that the distribution of the waiting time Wν, q, ν ? 1, up to the νth arrival, is a q-Erlang distribution and the interarrival times Tk, q = Wk, q ? Wk ? 1, q,?k = 1, 2, …, ν with W0, q = 0 are independent and equidistributed with a q-Exponential distribution.  相似文献

This paper considers the general linear regression model yc = X1β+ut under the heteroscedastic structure E(ut) = 0, E(u2) =σ2- (Xtβ)2, E(ut us) = 0, tæs, t, s= 1, T. It is shown that any estimated GLS estimator for β is asymptotically equivalent to the GLS estimator under some regularity conditions. A three-step GLS estimator, which calls upon the assumption E(ut2) =s?2(X,β)2 for the estimation of the disturbance covariance matrix, is considered.  相似文献

Consider an ergodic Markov chain X(t) in continuous time with an infinitesimal matrix Q = (qij) defined on a finite state space {0, 1,…, N}. In this note, we prove that if X(t) is skip-free positive (negative, respectively), i.e., qij, = 0 for j > i+ 1 (i > j+ 1), then the transition probability pij(t) = Pr[X(t)=j | X(0) =i] can be represented as a linear combination of p0N(t) (p(m)(N0)(t)), 0 ≤ m ≤N, where f(m)(t) denotes the mth derivative of a function f(t) with f(0)(t) =f(t). If X(t) is a birth-death process, then pij(t) is represented as a linear combination of p0N(m)(t), 0 ≤mN - |i-j|.  相似文献

For X1, …, XN a random sample from a distribution F, let the process SδN(t) be defined as where K2N = σNi=1(ci ? c?)2 and R xi, + Δd, is the rank of Xi + Δdi, among X1 + Δd1, …, XN + ΔdN. The purpose of this note is to prove that, under certain regularity conditions on F and on the constants ci and di, SΔN (t) is asymptotically approximately a linear function of Δ, uniformly in t and in Δ, |Δ| ≤ C. The special case of two samples is considered.  相似文献

Let X1X2,.be i.i.d. random variables and let Un= (n r)-1S?(n,r) h (Xi1,., Xir,) be a U-statistic with EUn= v, v unknown. Assume that g(X1) =E[h(X1,.,Xr) - v |X1]has a strictly positive variance s?2. Further, let a be such that φ(a) - φ(-a) =α for fixed α, 0 < α < 1, where φ is the standard normal d.f., and let S2n be the Jackknife estimator of n Var Un. Consider the stopping times N(d)= min {n: S2n: + n-12a-2},d > 0, and a confidence interval for v of length 2d,of the form In,d= [Un,-d, Un + d]. We assume that Var Un is unknown, and hence, no fixed sample size method is available for finding a confidence interval for v of prescribed width 2d and prescribed coverage probability α Turning to a sequential procedure, let IN(d),d be a sequence of sequential confidence intervals for v. The asymptotic consistency of this procedure, i.e. limd → 0P(v ∈ IN(d),d)=α follows from Sproule (1969). In this paper, the rate at which |P(v ∈ IN(d),d) converges to α is investigated. We obtain that |P(v ∈ IN(d),d) - α| = 0 (d1/2-(1+k)/2(1+m)), d → 0, where K = max {0,4 - m}, under the condition that E|h(X1, Xr)|m < ∞m > 2. This improves and extends recent results of Ghosh & DasGupta (1980) and Mukhopadhyay (1981).  相似文献

Let {X j , j ≥ 1} be a strictly stationary negatively or positively associated sequence of real valued random variables with unknown distribution function F(x). On the basis of the random variables {X j , j ≥ 1}, we propose a smooth recursive kernel-type estimate of F(x), and study asymptotic bias, quadratic-mean consistency and asymptotic normality of the recursive kernel-type estimator under suitable conditions.  相似文献

For a random walk {R n ≥0} given on a homogeneous irreducible finite MARKOV chain {X n ≥0} the identity (8) is obtained. Generalizations (14)-(16) of WALD's Fundamental Identity and WALD's first and second equations for the two-dimensional process {(R n ,X n ), n≥0} are proved. The Average Sample Number (21)-(22) and the Operating Characteristic Function (24)-(25) of a Sequential Probability Ratio Test follow. With this test a decision about two simple hypotheses on the unknown transition probability matrix of {X n , n≥0} and the unknown parameters of the probability distributions for the increments of {X n , n≥0} can be made. For a special case these results were proved by PHATARFOD [6] and KüCHLER [3] with other methods.  相似文献

In this article, we study large deviations for non random difference ∑n1(t)j = 1X1j ? ∑n2(t)j = 1X2j and random difference ∑N1(t)j = 1X1j ? ∑N2(t)j = 1X2j, where {X1j, j ? 1} is a sequence of widely upper orthant dependent (WUOD) random variables with non identical distributions {F1j(x), j ? 1}, {X2j, j ? 1} is a sequence of independent identically distributed random variables, n1(t) and n2(t) are two positive integer-valued functions, and {Ni(t), t ? 0}2i = 1 with ENi(t) = λi(t) are two counting processes independent of {Xij, j ? 1}2i = 1. Under several assumptions, some results of precise large deviations for non random difference and random difference are derived, and some corresponding results are extended.  相似文献

Consider an inhomogeneous Poisson process X on [0, T] whose unk-nown intensity function “switches” from a lower function g* to an upper function h* at some unknown point ?* that has to be identified. We consider two known continuous functions g and h such that g*(t) ? g(t) < h(t) ? h*(t) for 0 ? t ? T. We describe the behavior of the generalized likelihood ratio and Wald’s tests constructed on the basis of a misspecified model in the asymptotics of large samples. The power functions are studied under local alternatives and compared numerically with help of simulations. We also show the following robustness result: the Type I error rate is preserved even though a misspecified model is used to construct tests.  相似文献

In drug development, non‐inferiority tests are often employed to determine the difference between two independent binomial proportions. Many test statistics for non‐inferiority are based on the frequentist framework. However, research on non‐inferiority in the Bayesian framework is limited. In this paper, we suggest a new Bayesian index τ = P(π1 > π2 ? Δ0 | X1,X2), where X1 and X2 denote binomial random variables for trials n1 and n2, and parameters π1 and π2, respectively, and the non‐inferiority margin is Δ0 > 0. We show two calculation methods for τ, an approximate method that uses normal approximation and an exact method that uses an exact posterior PDF. We compare the approximate probability with the exact probability for τ. Finally, we present the results of actual clinical trials to show the utility of index τ. We study the problem of approximating a stochastic process Y = {Y(t: tT} with known and continuous covariance function R on the basis of finitely many observations Y(t 1,), …, Y(t n ). Dependent on the knowledge about the mean function, we use different approximations ? and measure their performance by the corresponding maximum mean squared error sub t∈T E(Y(t) ? ?(t))2. For a compact T ? ? p we prove sufficient conditions for the existence of optimal designs. For the class of covariance functions on T 2 = [0, 1]2 which satisfy generalized Sacks/Ylvisaker regularity conditions of order zero or are of product type, we construct sequences of designs for which the proposed approximations perform asymptotically optimal.  相似文献
