Balanced incomplete block designs (BIBDs) play important role in design of experiments, especially in field experiments. These designs ensure that treatments are compared with equal precision. Several methods are available in the literature to construct BIBDs but in this article some infinite series of these designs are presented by method of cyclic shifts. This method expresses some standard properties of a design just through examining the sets of shifts rather than studying the whole design.  相似文献

This article proposes a linear integer programming-based algorithm to construct balanced incomplete block designs. Working of the algorithm is illustrated with the help of an example. The algorithm is able to generate balanced incomplete block designs very fast in most of the cases. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with other algorithms proposed in the literature. It is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm is competitive with the existing algorithms.  相似文献

This paper investigates the block total response method proposed by Raghavarao and Federer for providing accurate estimates of the base rates of sensitive characteristics during surveys. It determines the best balanced incomplete block design to use to estimate the base rates for three, four, five and six sensitive attributes respectively, given a maximum total number of 13 questions. The estimates obtained from this method have smaller variance than estimates obtained using the similar, but more popular, unmatched count technique.  相似文献

An algorithmic method is described for the construction of optimal incomplete block designs when a known correlation structure is assumed for observations from plots in the same block. The subject of our study is the chemical balance weighing design in which the errors are correlated and have equal variances. A lower bound for the variance of estimated total weight is obtained and the necessary and sufficient conditions for the attainability of this lower bound are given. Constructions of blocked mixture designs are considered in situations where BLUEs of the block effect contrasts are orthogonal to the BLUEs of the regression coefficients. Orthogonal arrays (OA), Balanced Arrays (BAs), incidence matrices of balanced incomplete block designs (BIBDs), and partially balanced incomplete block designs (PBIBDs) are used. Designs with equal and unequal block sizes are considered. Also both cases where the constants involved in the orthogonality conditions depend and do not depend on the factors have been taken into account. Some standard (already available) designs can be obtained as particular cases of the designs proposed here.  相似文献

This note presents an extension of Q-method of analysis for binary designs given by Rao (1956) to n-ary balanced and partially balanced block designs. Here a linked n-ary block (LNB) design is defined as the dual of balanced n-ary (BN) design. Having a note on Yates’ (1939, 1940) method of P-analysis, we further extend the expressions for binary linked block (LB) designs given by Rao (1956) to linked n-ary block (LNB) designs which admit easy estimation of parameters for these type of all n-ary designs.  相似文献

In this paper a method for the construction of a class of row-column designs with good statistical properties and high efficiency is presented. The class of designs produced is shown to exhibit balance, orthogonality and adjusted orthogonality. The efficiencies of these designs are investigated in detail, and they are shown to be very high, and possibly maximal in some cases.  相似文献

In this paper we consider proper block designs and derive an upper bound for the number of blocks which can have a fixed number of symbols common with a given block of the design. To arrive at the desired bound, a generalization of an integer programming theorem due to Bush (1976) is first obtained. The integer programming theorem is then used to derive the main result of this paper. The bound given here is then compared with a similar bound obtained by Kageyama and Tsuji (1977).  相似文献

Judges rank k out of t objects according to m replic ations of abasic balanced incomplete block design with bblocks. In Alvo and Cabilio(1991),it is shown that the Durbin test, which is the usual test in this situation, can be written in terms of Spearman correlations between the blocks, and using a Kendall correlation, they generated a new statistic for this situation.This Kendall tau based statistic has a richer support than the Durbin statistic, and is at least as efficient.In the present paper,exact and simulation based tables are generated for both statistics, and various approximations to these null distributions are considered and compared.  相似文献

Remove unwanted variation (RUV) is an estimation and normalization system in which the underlying correlation structure of a multivariate dataset is estimated from negative control measurements, typically gene expression values, which are assumed to stay constant across experimental conditions. In this paper we derive the weight matrix which is estimated and incorporated into the generalized least squares estimates of RUV-inverse, and show that this weight matrix estimates the average covariance matrix across negative control measurements. RUV-inverse can thus be viewed as an estimation method adjusting for an unknown experimental design. We show that for a balanced incomplete block design (BIBD), RUV-inverse recovers intra- and interblock estimates of the relevant parameters and combines them as a weighted sum just like the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE), except that the weights are globally estimated from the negative control measurements instead of being individually optimized to each measurement as in the classical, single measurement BIBD BLUE.  相似文献

 保险公司有不同的利益主体,投资者和公司管理者关注的重点是公司效率,而投保人和监管机构关注的核心是保险公司的偿付能力,那么效率与偿付能力是否存在冲突,或者说,监管机构的偿付能力约束是否影响公司效率以及影响程度究竟如何,是业界和学术界关注的主要内容。本文从金融中介的视角,考虑不同利益主体,把偿付能力作为一产出指标,通过分析该指标的介入对效率的影响来研究偿付能力与效率之间的关系;在实证研究中,引入DEA的扩展模型—RAM,因为相对于DEA,RAM能更全面地反映保险公司的相对效率,所得到的效率值具有严格单调性,而且能处理指标出现负值的情况,这对于不多的样本特别具有吸引力;在检验不同类型保险公司的效率差异时,考虑到RAM方法得到的效率值是一个序数概念而不是绝对数量,本文采用Mann-Whitney秩和方法进行检验。  相似文献

Recent studies have shown that using variable sampling size and control limits (VSSC) schemes result in charts with more statistical power than variable sampling size (VSS) when detecting small to moderate shifts in the process mean vector. This paper presents an economic-statistical design (ESD) of the VSSC T2 control chart using the general model of Lorenzen and Vance [22]. The genetic algorithm approach is then employed to search for the optimal values of the six test parameters of the chart. We then compare the expected cost per unit of time of the optimally designed VSSC chart with optimally designed VSS and FRS (fixed ratio sampling) T2 charts as well as MEWMA charts.  相似文献
