ABSTRACT

We consider point and interval estimation of the unknown parameters of a generalized inverted exponential distribution in the presence of hybrid censoring. The maximum likelihood estimates are obtained using EM algorithm. We then compute Fisher information matrix using the missing value principle. Bayes estimates are derived under squared error and general entropy loss functions. Furthermore, approximate Bayes estimates are obtained using Tierney and Kadane method as well as using importance sampling approach. Asymptotic and highest posterior density intervals are also constructed. Proposed estimates are compared numerically using Monte Carlo simulations and a real data set is analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The travel distance between two cities of rectangular shape is considered. Two uniformly distributed random points, one from each city, are taken. Their straight path travel distance is then measured. The explicit forms for the probability density function of this distance and its expected value are obtained. Numerical results of calculating the exact expected distance and the estimated distance as well as computer simulation are given for various cases. The integer moments of the distance are also discussed.  相似文献

We propose an estimation procedure for time-series regression models under the Bayesian inference framework. With the exact method of Wise [Wise, J. (1955). The autocorrelation function and spectral density function. Biometrika, 42, 151–159], an exact likelihood function can be obtained instead of the likelihood conditional on initial observations. The constraints on the parameter space arising from the stationarity conditions are handled by a reparametrization, which was not taken into consideration by Chib [Chib, S. (1993). Bayes regression with autoregressive errors: A Gibbs sampling approach. J. Econometrics, 58, 275–294] or Chib and Greenberg [Chib, S. and Greenberg, E. (1994). Bayes inference in regression model with ARMA(p, q) errors. J. Econometrics, 64, 183–206]. Simulation studies show that our method leads to better inferential results than their results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper studies the asymptotic distribution of the largest eigenvalue of the sample covariance matrix. The multivariate distribution for the population is assumed to be elliptical with finite kurtosis 3κ. An expression as an expectation is obtained for the distribution function of the largest eigenvalue regardless of the multiplicity, m, of the population's largest eigenvalue. The asymptotic distribution function and density function are evaluated numerically for m = 2,3,4,5. The bootstrap of the average of the m largest eigenvalues is shown to be consistent for any underlying distribution with finite fourth-order cumulants.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Distributions of the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) in Type-II (progressive) hybrid censoring based on two-parameter exponential distributions have been obtained using a moment generating function approach. Although resulting in explicit expressions, the representations are complicated alternating sums. Using the spacings-based approach of Cramer and Balakrishnan [On some exact distributional results based on Type-I progressively hybrid censored data from exponential distributions. Statist Methodol. 2013;10:128–150], we derive simple expressions for the exact density and distribution functions of the MLEs in terms of B-spline functions. These representations can be easily implemented on a computer and provide an efficient method to compute density and distribution functions as well as moments of Type-II (progressively) hybrid censored order statistics.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Kernel estimation of probability density functions is considered when ranked-set samples are available. The properties of the resulting estimators are derived for small and large samples, while performance with respect to the usual simple random sample estimators is investigated for a range of probability density models.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article a generalization of the modified slash distribution is introduced. This model is based on the quotient of two independent random variables, whose distributions are a normal and a one-parameter gamma, respectively. The resulting distribution is a new model whose kurtosis is greater than other slash distributions. The probability density function, its properties, moments, and kurtosis coefficient are obtained. Inference based on moment and maximum likelihood methods is carried out. The multivariate version is also introduced. Two real data sets are considered in which it is shown that the new model fits better to symmetric data with heavy tails than other slash extensions previously introduced in literature.  相似文献

Abstract

In this work, we propose beta prime kernel estimator for estimation of a probability density functions defined with nonnegative support. For the proposed estimator, beta prime probability density function used as a kernel. It is free of boundary bias and nonnegative with a natural varying shape. We obtained the optimal rate of convergence for the mean squared error (MSE) and the mean integrated squared error (MISE). Also, we use adaptive Bayesian bandwidth selection method with Lindley approximation for heavy tailed distributions and compare its performance with the global least squares cross-validation bandwidth selection method. Simulation studies are performed to evaluate the average integrated squared error (ISE) of the proposed kernel estimator against some asymmetric competitors using Monte Carlo simulations. Moreover, real data sets are presented to illustrate the findings.  相似文献

Abstract

A new class of heavy-tailed distribution functions,, containing the lognormal distribution as a particular case is introduced. The class thus obtained depends on a set of three parameters, incorporating an additional distribution to the classical lognormal one. This new class of heavy-tailed distribution is presented as an alternative to other useful heavy-tailed distributions, such as the lognormal, Weibull, and Pareto distributions. The density and distribution functions of this new class are given by a closed expression which allows us to easily compute probabilities, quantiles, moments, and related measurements. Finally, some applications are shown as examples.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In economics and government statistics, aggregated data instead of individual level data are usually reported for data confidentiality and for simplicity. In this paper we develop a method of flexibly estimating the probability density function of the population using aggregated data obtained as group averages when individual level data are grouped according to quantile limits. The kernel density estimator has been commonly applied to such data without taking into account the data aggregation process and has been shown to perform poorly. Our method models the quantile function as an integral of the exponential of a spline function and deduces the density function from the quantile function. We match the aggregated data to their theoretical counterpart using least squares, and regularize the estimation by using the squared second derivatives of the density function as the penalty function. A computational algorithm is developed to implement the method. Application to simulated data and US household income survey data show that our penalized spline estimator can accurately recover the density function of the underlying population while the common use of kernel density estimation is severely biased. The method is applied to study the dynamic of China's urban income distribution using published interval aggregated data of 1985–2010.  相似文献

The local convergence rate of a multivariate density estimators based on the certain delta-sequence is studied. In contrast to known results, the conditions on the density are formulated in terms of the modulus of continuity. The main contribution of this study is relaxing the corresponding smoothing conditions in terms of arbitrary modulus of continuity type majorant. In particular, when the density f ∈ L p (R d ) satisfies Lipschitz condition of order γ = 1 at x, the rate of convergency contains terms with logarithm, which is the best possible convergency rate.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we consider the wavelet-based estimation of density derivatives. The multiscale density derivative estimator is proposed which is constructed by using a number of scaling functions. Asymptotic theory is developed in which asymptotic expressions for the bias, the variance and the mean integrated squared error are included. In addition, asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator is proved. Theoretical and numerical comparisons with the usual kernel-based estimators are also reported.  相似文献

Clusters of galaxies are a useful proxy to trace the distribution of mass in the universe. By measuring the mass of clusters of galaxies on different scales, one can follow the evolution of the mass distribution (Martínez and Saar, Statistics of the Galaxy Distribution, 2002). It can be shown that finding galaxy clusters is equivalent to finding density contour clusters (Hartigan, Clustering Algorithms, 1975): connected components of the level set S c ≡{f>c} where f is a probability density function. Cuevas et al. (Can. J. Stat. 28, 367–382, 2000; Comput. Stat. Data Anal. 36, 441–459, 2001) proposed a nonparametric method for density contour clusters, attempting to find density contour clusters by the minimal spanning tree. While their algorithm is conceptually simple, it requires intensive computations for large datasets. We propose a more efficient clustering method based on their algorithm with the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The method is applied to a study of galaxy clustering on large astronomical sky survey data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A two parameter extended form of standard gamma function is suggested which provide extra flexibility to the density function over positive range. A finite mixture of beta distribution is defined by using the suggested extended form. The shape of density function of extended gamma distribution and also that of finite mixture of beta distribution for various values of the parameters are shown. Inverted distribution of extended gamma and that of finite mixture of beta distribution are given.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article proposes a method to estimate the degree of cointegration in bivariate series and suggests a test statistic for testing noncointegration based on the determinant of the spectral density matrix for the frequencies close to zero. In the study, series are assumed to be I(d), 0 < d ? 1, with parameter d supposed to be known. In this context, the order of integration of the error series is I(d ? b), b ∈ [0, d]. Besides, the determinant of the spectral density matrix for the dth difference series is a power function of b. The proposed estimator for b is obtained here performing a regression of logged determinant on a set of logged Fourier frequencies. Under the null hypothesis of noncointegration, the expressions for the bias and variance of the estimator were derived and its consistency property was also obtained. The asymptotic normality of the estimator, under Gaussian and non-Gaussian innovations, was also established. A Monte Carlo study was performed and showed that the suggested test possesses correct size and good power for moderate sample sizes, when compared with other proposals in the literature. An advantage of the method proposed here, over the standard methods, is that it allows to know the order of integration of the error series without estimating a regression equation. An application was conducted to exemplify the method in a real context.  相似文献

This article examines a family of three-parameter multivariate Laplace distributions ML p (a, μ, Σ) which is closed under constant shifts. Parameter vectors a and μ are called shift and shape parameter, respectively, positive definite p × p-matrix Σ is a scale parameter. The first three moments are derived and used for estimating the parameters. The behavior of the obtained estimates is explored in a simulation experiment.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present paper considers the Bayesian analysis of a linear regression model involving structural change, which may occur either due to shift in disturbances precision or due to shift in regression parameters. The posterior density for the regression parameter has been derived and posterior odds ratio for testing the hypothesis that structural change is due to shift in disturbances precision against the alternative that the change is due to shift in regression parameters has been obtained. The findings of a numerical simulation have been presented. The proposed model has been applied to RBI data set on corporate sector.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, under Type-I progressive hybrid censoring sample, we obtain maximum likelihood estimator of unknown parameter when the parent distribution belongs to proportional hazard rate family. We derive the conditional probability density function of the maximum likelihood estimator using moment-generating function technique. The exact confidence interval is obtained and compared by conducting a Monte Carlo simulation study for burr Type XII distribution. Finally, we obtain the Bayes and posterior regret gamma minimax estimates of the parameter under a precautionary loss function with precautionary index k = 2 and compare their behavior via a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the stress-strength reliability, R, is estimated in type II censored samples from Pareto distributions. The classical inference includes obtaining the maximum likelihood estimator, an exact confidence interval, and the confidence intervals based on Wald and signed log-likelihood ratio statistics. Bayesian inference includes obtaining Bayes estimator, equi-tailed credible interval, and highest posterior density (HPD) interval given both informative and non-informative prior distributions. Bayes estimator of R is obtained using four methods: Lindley's approximation, Tierney-Kadane method, Monte Carlo integration, and MCMC. Also, we compare the proposed methods by simulation study and provide a real example to illustrate them.  相似文献
