Most studies of quality improvement deal with ordered categorical data from industrial experiments. Accounting for the ordering of such data plays an important role in effectively determining the optimal factor level of combination. This paper utilizes the correspondence analysis to develop a procedure to improve the ordered categorical response in a multifactor state system based on Taguchi's statistic. Users may find the proposed procedure in this paper to be attractive because we suggest a simple and also popular statistical tool for graphically identifying the really important factors and determining the levels to improve process quality. A case study for optimizing the polysilicon deposition process in a very large-scale integrated circuit is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed procedure.  相似文献

In this article, we propose new cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts using the ordered ranked set sampling (RSS) and ordered double RSS schemes, with the perfect and imperfect rankings, for monitoring the variability of a normally distributed process. The run length characteristics of the proposed CUSUM charts are computed using the Monte Carlo simulations. The proposed CUSUM charts are compared in terms of the average and standard deviation of run lengths with their existing competitor CUSUM charts based on simple random sampling. It turns out that the proposed CUSUM charts with the perfect and imperfect rankings are more sensitive than the existing CUSUM charts based on the sample range and standard deviation. A similar trend is present when these CUSUM charts are compared with the fast initial response features. An example is also used to demonstrate the implementation and working of the proposed CUSUM charts.  相似文献

A model developed by Andrich for ordered categorical data is extended to develop tests for treatment effects with paired or matched samples. In particular, this includes analysis for pre-post studies and crossover designs. Some advantages of this model are that it allows for misclassification of subjects, yields reasonable conditional requirements for exact analysis, a normal approximation is good for all but the smallest of sample sizes, and it is relatively simple mathematically. Furthermore, the form of the tests derived are logical extensions of tests for unordered categories.  相似文献

Upper and lower bounds on the joint bivariate distribution are found when the marginals are given and under the additional condition that X ≤ Y with probability one. The upper bound is the same as for the unrestricted bivariate distribution with marginals given, For the lower bound a simple inequality is derived which is exact, that is, achievable, in many cases including normal and exponential marginals.  相似文献

The theory of locally most powerful rank tests and the union intersection principle are incorporated in the formulation of some distribution-free rank tests for ordered alternatives in some simple linear models (including the classical one-way layout as a special case). Some approximations for the null-hypothesis distributions of the test statistics ( for finite sample sizes) are considered, and the theory is supplemented by some numerical and simulation results.  相似文献

Burn-in is a method of eliminating early failures in populations of manufactured items. To burn-in a component or a system means to subject it to a ‘‘simulated operation’’ for some time (prior to its actual field use). Various optimal burn-in problems have been intensively studied in the literature under the assumption of decreasing or bathtub-shaped failure rates. However, most of these studies have been conducted for homogeneous populations. In this paper, we discuss burn-in for heterogeneous populations and develop approaches that minimize the risks of selecting items with large levels of individual failure rates. Using simple examples, we consider the optimal burn-in time, which minimizes these risks.  相似文献

Models for monotone trends in hazard rates for grouped survival data in stratified populations are introduced, and simple closed form score statistics for testing the significance of these trends are presented. The test statistics for some of the models understudy are shown to be independent of the assumed form of the function which relates the hazard rates to the sets of monotone scores assigned to the time intervals. The procedure is applied to test monotone trends in the recovery rates of erythematous response among skin cancer patients and controls that have been irradiated with a ultraviolent challenge.  相似文献

Exact null and alternative distributions of the two-way maximally selected x2 for interaction between the ordered rows and columns are derived for each of the normal and Poisson models, respectively. The method is one of the multiple comparison procedures for ordered parameters and is useful for defining a block interaction or a two-way change-point model as a simple alternative to the two-way additive model. The construction of a confidence region for the two-way change-point is then described. An important application is found in a dose-response clinical trial with ordered categorical responses, where detecting the dose level which gives significantly higher responses than the lower doses can be formulated as a problem of detecting a change in the interaction effects.  相似文献

Poverty can be seen as a multidimensional phenomenon described by a set of indicators, the poverty components. A one-dimensional measure of poverty serving as a ranking index can be obtained by combining the component indicators via aggregation techniques. Ranking indices are thought of as supporting political decisions. This paper proposes an alternative to aggregation based on simple concepts of partial order theory and illustrates the pros and cons of this approach taking as case study a multidimensional measure of poverty comprising three components – absolute poverty, relative poverty and income – computed for the European Union regions. The analysis enables one to highlight conflicts across the components with some regions detected as controversial, with, for example, low levels of relative poverty and high levels of monetary poverty. The partial order approach enables one to point to the regions with the most severe data conflicts and to the component indicators that cause these conflicts.  相似文献

Testing for ordered alternatives in randomized block designs has been a problem of interest for almost three decades (Jonckheere (1954)). Three classes of rank tests have evolved—tests based on “within-blocks” rankings (W-tests), tests based on “ranking after alignment” within blocks (RAA-tests), and tests based on “among-blocks” rankings (A-Tests). This paper focuses on the latter. A simplified version of the Skillings-Wolfe generalized Purl test (1977) is suggested and two very useful A-tests—a generalized Johnson-Mehrotra “Optimal contrast” procedure and a generalized Tryon-Hettmansperger rank test—are developed. These procedures are compared and contrasted with other recent competitors presented by Skllllngs and Wolfe (1978) and by Salama and Quade (1981).  相似文献

We consider multiple comparison test procedures among treatment effects in a randomized block design. We propose closed testing procedures based on maximum values of some two-sample t test statistics and based on F test statistics. It is shown that the proposed procedures are more powerful than single-step procedures and the REGW (Ryan/Einot–Gabriel/Welsch)-type tests. Next, we consider the randomized block design under simple ordered restrictions of treatment effects. We propose closed testing procedures based on maximum values of two-sample one-sided t test statistics and based on Batholomew’s statistics for all pairwise comparisons of treatment effects. Although single-step multiple comparison procedures are utilized in general, the power of these procedures is low for a large number of groups. The closed testing procedures stated in the present article are more powerful than the single-step procedures. Simulation studies are performed under the null hypothesis and some alternative hypotheses. In this studies, the proposed procedures show a good performance.  相似文献

Studies of seasonal variation are valuable in biomedical research because they can help to discover the etiology of diseases that are not well understood. Generally in these studies the data have certain characteristics that require specialized tests and methods for the statistical analysis. But the effectiveness of these specialized tests is variable, especially according to the seasonal variation, the dimension of the amplitude in the seasonal variation, and the sample size. The purpose of this paper is to present a test and methods appropriate for the analysis and modeling of data whose seasonal variation has small amplitude and whose sample size is small. This test can detect different kinds of seasonal variation. The results from a simulation study show that the test performs very well. The application of these methods is illustrated by two examples.  相似文献

In the simple and widely used method of Box–Muller [G. Box and M. Muller, A note on the generation of random normal deviates, Ann. Math. Statist. 29 (1958), pp. 610–611], from a pair of uniform and independent random variables in (0,1), a pair of standard and independent normal variables is obtained. In this article, we present a very simple and elegant generalization of this method to obtain a pair of correlated standard normal variables with a given coefficient of correlation. This generalized method, which is computationally very easy, is interpreted in geometric terms, considering a translation of the uniform interval (0,1) and a rotation of a defined angle, both related to the coefficient of correlation. Some numerical results are simulated and statistically analysed, proving that the generalization is extremely simple and powerful.  相似文献

In this paper, order statistics from independent and non identically distributed random variables is used to obtain ordered ranked set sampling (ORSS). Bayesian inference of unknown parameters under a squared error loss function of the Pareto distribution is determined. We compute the minimum posterior expected loss (the posterior risk) of the derived estimates and compare them with those based on the corresponding simple random sample (SRS) to assess the efficiency of the obtained estimates. Two-sample Bayesian prediction for future observations is introduced by using SRS and ORSS for one- and m-cycle. A simulation study and real data are applied to show the proposed results.  相似文献

We consider the problem of proving noninferiority when the comparison is based on ordered categorical data. We apply a rank test based on the Wilcoxon–Mann–Whitney effect where the asymptotic variance is estimated consistently under the alternative and a small‐sample approximation is given. We give the associated 100(1?α)% confidence interval and propose a formula for sample size determination. Abstract.  A simple and standard approach for analysing multistate model data is to model all transition intensities and then compute a summary measure such as the transition probabilities based on this. This approach is relatively simple to implement but it is difficult to see what the covariate effects are on the scale of interest. In this paper, we consider an alternative approach that directly models the covariate effects on transition probabilities in multistate models. Our new approach is based on binomial modelling and inverse probability of censoring weighting techniques and is very simple to implement by standard software. We show how to do flexible regression models with possibly time-varying covariate effects.  相似文献
