Large-scale simultaneous hypothesis testing appears in many areas. A well-known inference method is to control the false discovery rate. One popular approach is to model the z-scores derived from the individual t-tests and then use this model to control the false discovery rate. We propose a heteroscedastic contaminated normal mixture to describe the distribution of z-scores and design an EM-test for testing homogeneity in this class of mixture models. The proposed EM-test can be used to investigate whether a collection of z-scores has arisen from a single normal distribution or whether a heteroscedastic contaminated normal mixture is more appropriate. We show that the EM-test statistic has a shifted mixture of chi-squared limiting distribution. Simulation results show that the proposed testing procedure has accurate type-I error and significantly larger power than its competitors under a variety of model specifications. A real-data example is analysed to exemplify the application of the proposed method.  相似文献

It is often assumed in situations in which life data from Weibull or extreme-value distributions are involved that data in different samples come from extreme-value distributions with the same scale parameter (equivalently, Weibull distributions with the same shape parameter). This paper proposes a number of tests for homogeneity for extreme-value scale parameters, based on a number of commonly used estimators for these scale parameters. Previous theoretical work and some simulation results provided here indicate that the null distributions of the test statistics proposed are well approximated by the x2 distribution under a wide range of conditions  相似文献

In this paper, we are concerned with testing homogeneity against trend. Parsons (1979) considered the exact distribution of the test statistic based on the Wilcoxon type scores. We extend his result to the case of the general scores. Then we give a table of significance probabilities for the Fisher-Yates normal scores. We also study the asymptotic distribution of the test statis-tic based on the general scores under the null hypothesis, and the asymptotic relative efficiency against Bartholomew's likelihood ratio test assuming normality  相似文献

Several procedures have been proposed for testing equality of ordered means. The best-known of these is the likelihood-ratio test introduced by Bartholomew, which possesses generally superior power characteristics to those of its competitors. Difficulties in implementing this test have led to the development of alternative approaches, such as tests based on single and multiple contrasts. Some recent approaches have utilized approximations to the polyhedral cone defining the restricted parameter space, including those of Akkerboom (circular cone) and Mudholkar & McDermott (orthant). This article proposes a class of tests based on an improved orthant approximation to the polyhedral cone. These tests may be viewed as generalizations of the orthogonal contrast test proposed by Mukerjee, Robertson & Wright. Studies of the power functions of several competing tests indicate that the generalized orthogonal contrast tests are effective alternatives to the likelihood-ratio test, especially when the latter is difficult to implement.  相似文献

In this paper, we study an inference problem for a stochastic model where k deterministic Lotka–Volterra systems of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are perturbed with k pairs of random errors. The k deterministic systems describe the ecological interaction between k predator–prey populations. These k deterministic systems depend on unknown parameters. We consider the testing problem concerning the homogeneity between k pairs of the interaction parameters of the ODEs. We assume that the k pairs of random errors are independent and that, each pair follows correlated Ornstein–Uhlenbeck processes. Thus, we extend the stochastic model suggested in Froda and Colavita [2005. Estimating predator–prey systems via ordinary differential equations with closed orbits. Aust. N.Z. J. Stat. 2, 235–254] as well as in Froda and Nkurunziza [2007. Prediction of predator–prey populations modeled by perturbed ODE. J. Math. Biol. 54, 407–451] where k=1. Under this statistical model, we propose a likelihood ratio test and study the asymptotic properties of this test. Finally, we highlight the performance of our method through some simulations studies.  相似文献

The inverse Gaussian family of non negative, skewed random variables is analytically simple, and its inference theory is well known to be analogous to the normal theory in numerous ways. Hence, it is widely used for modeling non negative positively skewed data. In this note, we consider the problem of testing homogeneity of order restricted means of several inverse Gaussian populations with a common unknown scale parameter using an approach based on the classical methods, such as Fisher's, for combining independent tests. Unlike the likelihood approach which can only be readily applied to a limited number of restrictions and the settings of equal sample sizes, this approach is applicable to problems involving a broad variety of order restrictions and arbitrary sample size settings, and most importantly, no new null distributions are needed. An empirical power study shows that, in case of the simple order, the test based on Fisher's combination method compares reasonably with the corresponding likelihood ratio procedure.  相似文献

Testing homogeneity is a fundamental problem in finite mixture models. It has been investigated by many researchers and most of the existing works have focused on the univariate case. In this article, the authors extend the use of the EM‐test for testing homogeneity to multivariate mixture models. They show that the EM‐test statistic asymptotically has the same distribution as a certain transformation of a single multivariate normal vector. On the basis of this result, they suggest a resampling procedure to approximate the P‐value of the EM‐test. Simulation studies show that the EM‐test has accurate type I errors and adequate power, and is more powerful and computationally efficient than the bootstrap likelihood ratio test. Two real data sets are analysed to illustrate the application of our theoretical results. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 39: 218–238; 2011 © 2011 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

This paper presents two approaches for comparing several exponential accelerated life models under the usual stress levels. The approaches are based on on the likelihood ratio statistics and on the posterior Bayes factor ( Aitkin, 1991). These procedures can be useful in many practical situations. An exact distribution and a table of critical values of the likelihood ratio statistics are presented. A simulation study is also performed.  相似文献

A new generalized p-value method is proposed for testing the equality of coefficients of variation in k normal populations. Simulation studies show that the type I error probabilities are close to the nominal level. The proposed test is also compared with likelihood ratio test, modified Bennett's test and score test through Monte Carlo simulation, the results demonstrate that the generalized p-value method has satisfactory performance in terms of sizes and powers.  相似文献

The importance of the normal distribution for fitting continuous data is well known. However, in many practical situations data distribution departs from normality. For example, the sample skewness and the sample kurtosis are far away from 0 and 3, respectively, which are nice properties of normal distributions. So, it is important to have formal tests of normality against any alternative. D'Agostino et al. [A suggestion for using powerful and informative tests of normality, Am. Statist. 44 (1990), pp. 316–321] review four procedures Z 2(g 1), Z 2(g 2), D and K 2 for testing departure from normality. The first two of these procedures are tests of normality against departure due to skewness and kurtosis, respectively. The other two tests are omnibus tests. An alternative to the normal distribution is a class of skew-normal distributions (see [A. Azzalini, A class of distributions which includes the normal ones, Scand. J. Statist. 12 (1985), pp. 171–178]). In this paper, we obtain a score test (W) and a likelihood ratio test (LR) of goodness of fit of the normal regression model against the skew-normal family of regression models. It turns out that the score test is based on the sample skewness and is of very simple form. The performance of these six procedures, in terms of size and power, are compared using simulations. The level properties of the three statistics LR, W and Z 2(g 1) are similar and close to the nominal level for moderate to large sample sizes. Also, their power properties are similar for small departure from normality due to skewness (γ1≤0.4). Of these, the score test statistic has a very simple form and computationally much simpler than the other two statistics. The LR statistic, in general, has highest power, although it is computationally much complex as it requires estimates of the parameters under the normal model as well as those under the skew-normal model. So, the score test may be used to test for normality against small departure from normality due to skewness. Otherwise, the likelihood ratio statistic LR should be used as it detects general departure from normality (due to both skewness and kurtosis) with, in general, largest power.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Motivated by an example in marine science, we use Fisher’s method to combine independent likelihood ratio tests (LRTs) and asymptotic independent score tests to assess the equivalence of two zero-inflated Beta populations (mixture distributions with three parameters). For each test, test statistics for the three individual parameters are combined into a single statistic to address the overall difference between the two populations. We also develop non parametric and semiparametric permutation-based tests for simultaneously comparing two or three features of unknown populations. Simulations show that the likelihood-based tests perform well for large sample sizes and that the statistics based on combining LRT statistics outperforms the ones based on combining score test statistics. The permutation-based tests have overall better performance in terms of both power and type I error rate. Our methods are easy to implement and computationally efficient, and can be expanded to more than two populations and to other multiple parameter families. The permutation tests are entirely generic and can be useful in various applications dealing with zero (or other) inflation.  相似文献

Many procedures exist for testing equality of means or medians to compare several independent distributions. However, the mean or median do not determine the entire distribution. In this article, we propose a new small-sample modification of the likelihood ratio test for testing the equality of the quantiles of several normal distributions. The merits of the proposed test are numerically compared with the existing tests—a generalized p-value method and likelihood ratio test—with respect to their sizes and powers. The simulation results demonstrate that proposed method is satisfactory; its actual size is very close to the nominal level. We illustrate these approaches using two real examples.  相似文献

The Behrens‐Fisher problem concerns the inference for the difference between the means of two normal populations whose ratio of variances is unknown. In this situation, Fisher's fiducial interval differs markedly from the Neyman‐Pearson confidence interval. A prior proposed by Jeffreys leads to a credible interval that is equivalent to Fisher's solution but it carries a different interpretation. The authors propose an alternative prior leading to a credible interval whose asymptotic coverage probability matches the frequentist coverage probability more accurately than the interval of Jeffreys. Their simulation results indicate excellent matching even in small samples.  相似文献

In this paper the likelihood ratio test criterion for testing the equality of block covariance matrices for the multivariate multisamplesphericity model has been derived. The distribution of the test statistic, its moments and percentage points are also given.  相似文献

This article describes testing for periodicity in the presence of FD processes. We propose two approaches for testing the periodicity based on Fisher's test. The first one is performed using the periodogram which has been divided into different parts. The second one is based on the discrete wavelet transform. Properties of the tests are illustrated by means of Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

In ophthalmologic or otolaryngologic study, each subject may contribute paired organs measurements to the analysis. A number of statistical methods have been proposed on bilateral correlated data. In practice, it is important to detect confounding effect by treatment interaction, since ignoring confounding effect may lead to unreliable conclusion. Therefore, stratified data analysis can be considered to adjust the effect of confounder on statistical inference. In this article, we investigate and derive three test procedures for testing homogeneity of difference of two proportions for stratified correlated paired binary data in the basis of equal correlation model assumption. The performance of proposed test procedures is examined through Monte Carlo simulation. The simulation results show that the Score test is usually robust on type I error control with high power, and therefore is recommended among the three methods. One example from otolaryngologic study is given to illustrate the three test procedures.  相似文献

For a hypothesis testing problem involving the location and scale parameters of an exponential distribution, Perng (1977) proposed a test procedure based on the first r out of n observed failure times. In this paper the likelihood ratio test is determined, critical values are provided and the asymptotic null distribution is determined. An alternate test based on an F statistic is also proposed and the critical regions and power functions of the procedures are compared.  相似文献

Some results on the estimation of a symmetric density function are given. For the case when the point of symmetry, θ, is known it is shown that a symmetrized kernel estimator is, as measured by MISE, approximately as good as a non-symmetrized one based on twice as many observations. This result remains ’true if the estimated density is a normal one and θ is estimated by the sample mean. Some Monte Carlo results for several densities and sample sizes are given for the case when θ is estimated by the sample median.  相似文献

Score test of homogeneity for survival data   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
If follow-up is made for subjects which are grouped into units, such as familial or spatial units then it may be interesting to test whether the groups are homogeneous (or independent for given explanatory variables). The effect of the groups is modelled as random and we consider a frailty proportional hazards model which allows to adjust for explanatory variables. We derive the score test of homogeneity from the marginal partial likelihood and it turns out to be the sum of a pairwise correlation term of martingale residuals and an overdispersion term. In the particular case where the sizes of the groups are equal to one, this statistic can be used for testing overdispersion. The asymptotic variance of this statistic is derived using counting process arguments. An extension to the case of several strata is given. The resulting test is computationally simple; its use is illustrated using both simulated and real data. In addition a decomposition of the score statistic is proposed as a sum of a pairwise correlation term and an overdispersion term. The pairwise correlation term can be used for constructing a statistic more robust to departure from the proportional hazard model, and the overdispesion term for constructing a test of fit of the proportional hazard model.  相似文献
