The Robustness of China’s Migration and Heihe-Tengchong Line

Migration has been most active among three major population movements and affective to population distribution.However,this paper first finds that the pattern of China’s inter-provincial migration is robust since China’s reforming and opening based on the analysis on the distribution of inter-provincial migration scale,intensity and population flow.Therefore,the continual migration in the past 80 years,especially since China’s reforming and opening,has not changed the basic feature of China’s population distribution and has no effective influence on the robustness of Heihe-Tengchong Line.The basic pattern of China’s population distribution and Heihe-Tengchong Line mainly depend on the constant geographic position as shown in the First Nature Rule.Without any change of the First Nature Rule,China’s population distribution and Heihe-Tengchong Line remain highly stable,and the migration is unlikely to lose the robustness.

The Major Deviations of Urbanization in China

Urbanization is a major strategic issue in China’s economic transformation. This paper argues that China should coordinate the development of urbanization, industrialization,agricultural modernization,and informationalization,based on analysis of the five major deviations in the process of China’s urbanization.In order to advance the sustainable development of urbanization in China,following measures need to be taken by the government:balancing the development of large,medium-sized and small cities and towns,reforming the government’s fiscal and tax system,encouraging migrant workers and their families to work and live at local cities and towns,providing citizenship to migrant workers,and avoiding the inter-cities cutthroat competition on GDP.     

Research on Health Status and Health Care of the Elderly in China

The issue of health status and care for the elderly in urban and rural areas is becoming increasingly serious in the rapid context of population aging in China.The paper analyzed the health status of urban and rural elderly in China in the two-week morbidity rate,prevalence rate of chronic diseases, disability status,self-rated health and healthy life expectancy of the elderly using the data from the 2006 Sampling Survey on the Status of Urban/ Rural Aged Population in China,the Fourth National Health Service Survey and the 2006 Second China National Sample Survey on Disability,to explore the current provision of sources of care for the elderly and try to make some policy recommendations about to improve the health and care for the elderly population facing the crisis of population aging.

The Economic Pressure of Population Ageing in China and Its Regulation

By adopting the AECI Index Method proposed by the author and using method of population simulation,this paper analyzes quantitatively the trend,intensity and regulation of the economic pressure of population ageing in China,and compares China with other countries.It draws the following conclusions:(1) China will face great economic pressure due to population ageing in the first half of this century.According to the medium projection,the pressure will increase most rapidly during the period from the middle of 2020s to the end of 2030s,and reach its peak around 2040 when the intensity of the pressure may quadruple that in 2010.(2) The great economic pressure of population ageing may remarkably reduce China’s development momentum.(3) To ease the pressure,we should rely mainly on economic measures,supplemented by population control measures.(4) To gradually liberalize the prevailing birth control policy on the premise of sticking to the state policy of family planning is a rational approach to regulate the economic pressure of population ageing in China.On the one hand,this can ease the possible economic pressure of ageing in the future,and on the other hand,it can control the pressure of population size within an endurable limit.     

An Analysis of Labor Transfer Fluctuation in China: An Empirical Study Based on A RBC Model

A RBC model is built to study labor transfer fluctuation in China. Then an empirical study of labor transfer between 1978 and 2009 is conducted mainly to explore the impacts of technology shocks on the labor transfer in China. The study has several main findings. Firstly China’s labor transfer has obvious cyclical fluctuation, and it is pro-cyclical with output. Secondly with the improved RBC model, the variance of China’s cyclical fluctuation can be mainly explained by technology shocks, and especially over half of fluctuation of labor transfer can be explained by it. Thirdly technology shocks have a positive effect on outputs, consumptions, investments and labor transfer, but it has a negative effect on the employment.
