The number of emergency placements of children has increased rapidly in Norway over the recent years. Nevertheless, there is little knowledge about how parents experience the processes involved in emergency placements. We conducted 64 survey interviews with parents who have experienced this kind of placement of their children. One third of the participants' children had received interventions prior to the emergency placement. Another third were known by Child Welfare Services (CWS) through reports of concern, which were dismissed without interventions and, in some cases, without investigation. The final third had no prehistory from CWS ahead of the emergency placement. A large proportion of the participants emphasized that they had experienced problems for a long time and had earlier requests for help unmet. Another large group of parents notified CWS themselves, and some of them wanted their child emergency placed. On the basis of parents' experiences, we suggest different implications for practice: (a) CWS should be more thorough in their investigation and assessment of the families, both when it comes to reports of concern and evaluation of initiated interventions. (b) Planned placement should be promoted to a greater degree, wherever possible. (c) A greater emphasis on follow‐up of parents after emergency placements is needed. 相似文献

The vast majority of measures have, at their core, a purpose of personal and social change. If test developers and users want
measures to have personal and social consequences and impact, then it is critical to consider the consequences and side effects
of measurement in the validation process itself. The consequential basis of test interpretation and use, as introduced in
Messick’s (Educational measurement, Macmillan, New York, pp. 13–103, 1989) progressive matrix model of unified validity theory, has been misunderstood by many measurement experts, test developers,
researchers, and practitioners. The purposes of this paper were to (a) review Messick’s unified view of validity and clarify
his consequential basis of test interpretation and use, (b) discuss the kinds of questions evoked by value implications and
social consequences and their role in construct validity and score meaning, (c) present a reframing of Messick’s model and
a new model of unified validity and validation, (d) bring the concept of multilevel measures under the same validation umbrella
as individual differences measures, and (e) offer some thoughts and directions for more explicit consideration of value implications,
intended social consequences, and unintended side effects of legitimate test interpretation and use. This paper has implications
for the interpretation, use, and validation of both individual differences and multilevel measures in education, psychology,

This paper provides evidence on the effect of welfare reform on fertility, focusing on UK reforms in 1999 that increased per-child
spending by 50% in real terms. We use a difference-in-differences approach, exploiting the fact that the reforms were targeted
at low-income households. The reforms were likely to differentially affect the fertility of women in couples and single women
because of the opportunity cost effects of the welfare-to-work element. We find no increase in births among single women,

This article presents a field study of technology-supported elderly care analyzed from an activity theory perspective. Leont’ev’s hierarchical structure of activity is used to analyze how elderly people learn new technology-mediated care practices. We also used Engeström’s activity system in studying particular work contexts. We combined activity theory with Corbin and Strauss’s trajectory concept to represent a time line perspective on technology-mediated elderly care. This combination made it easier to focus on transitions between the stages in the trajectory. Our analysis of technology-supported care emphasizes providing for increasing levels of automation in care and shifting relations between the subject and the tool as a way to maintain the stability of the object of activity. 相似文献

Based on a collection of auto-ethnographic narratives that reflect our experiences as academic mothers at an Australian university, this paper seeks to illustrate the impact of COVID-19 on our career cycles in order to explore alternative feminist models of progression and practice in Higher Education. Collectively, we span multiple disciplines, parenting profiles, and racial/ethnic backgrounds. Our narratives (initiated in 2019) explicate four focal points in our careers as a foundation for analyzing self-definitions of professional identity: pre- and post-maternity career break; and pre- and post-COVID-19 career. We have modeled this research on a collective feminist research practice that is generative and empowering in terms of self-reflective models of collaborative research. Considering this practice and these narratives, we argue for a de-centering of masculinized career cycle patterns and progression pathways both now and beyond COVID-19. This represents both a challenge to neo-liberal norms of academic productivity, as well as a call to radically enhance institutional gender equality policies and practice. 相似文献

Emergency placements in child welfare services have increased during the last 10 years in Norway. At the time of placement, some of these children have been in the child welfare system for several years. Based on qualitative interviews, our study explores Norwegian child welfare workers' perceptions of long‐term cases resulting in emergency placements. The participants reported that they felt they had intervened too late, as it took them too long to understand the severity of the situation. This occurred mainly due to three factors: (a) The work had mainly been based on the parents' premises; (b) having too much distance to the child, as they talked too little with the child, too late in the process; (c) an experience of lacking methodological skills needed and sufficient opportunities to conduct proper observations and assessments; (d) supportive measures were tried for too long, and these measures were not properly evaluated. Giving other professionals' assessments considerable weight in the decision‐making process, and the use of legal language rather than independent, professional assessments, can be seen as another way of distancing themselves from both the family and the decisions being made. 相似文献

This paper identifies convex distributional preferences as a possible cause for the empirical observation that agents belonging to the same group tend to behave similarly in risky environments. We first show theoretically that convex distributional preferences imply social interaction effects in risky choices in the sense that observing a peer choose a risky (safe) option increases the agent’s incentive to choose the risky (safe) option as well, even when lotteries are stochastically independent and the agent can only observe the lottery chosen by the peer but not the corresponding outcome.
