Dynamic capabilities: A review and research agenda

The notion of dynamic capabilities complements the premise of the resource‐based view of the firm, and has injected new vigour into empirical research in the last decade. Nonetheless, several issues surrounding its conceptualization remain ambivalent. In light of empirical advancement, this paper aims to clarify the concept of dynamic capabilities, and then identify three component factors which reflect the common features of dynamic capabilities across firms and which may be adopted and further developed into a measurement construct in future research. Further, a research model is developed encompassing antecedents and consequences of dynamic capabilities in an integrated framework. Suggestions for future research and managerial implications are also discussed.     

Incest,paedophilia, pornography and prostitution: making familial males more visible as the abusers

In this paper I return to the survivor case study and sex offender data I used in my paper on conceptual models of the relationship between pornography and child sexual abuse in Child Abuse Review in 1997. Here I use them to show how paedophile typologies and sex offender classifications contribute to constructing the invisibility of the normal, ordinary, heterosexual family men who sexually abuse their own and other people's children on a very substantial scale. I also use it as the basis for developing a typology which constructs the connections between incest, paedophilia, pornography and prostitution in the form of a ‘Continuum typology of child sexual abuse and the characteristics of child sexual abusers’, and captures the crossover of victims and perpetrators and the overlap of intrafamilial and extrafamilial child sexual abuse and exploitation. This, in turn, becomes the basis for constructing a ‘Nosology of child sexual abuse classification’ which genders the abusers and takes account of both the overlap and the dominant discourse currently of policing and policy, in which ‘paedophilia’ and ‘child sex offending’ have become synonymous, and incest abusers are invisible. THE FUTURE OF ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES ON THE MAINSTREAM POLITICAL AGENDA

The purpose of this paper is to identify some of the factors that have contributed to he well documented decline of the environment as a significant policy concern on he mainstream political agenda. On the basis of interviews with environmental ***ctivists, such factors would appear to include the hardening of the Australian Labor ***arty and concomitant softening of the Liberal Party to movement pressure; the increased institutionalised access of movement elites to decision‐making forums; the changed issue focus of some environmental organisations; and a shift in the movement's campaign tactics.     

Explorations into Creaturely Sensations and Trap-lines

This exposition is a meditation on the embodied sensations of being idle learnt from sitting with and dressing as a cat, to the contentious issues of pest control in New Zealand, Aotearoa. Dress, one of the most distinctively human cultural forms, is used to explore both the human-animal divide and animal –becomings. Putting into practice Kate Soper’s concept of ‘alternative hedonism’ and Ron Broglio’s ‘surface encounters’ this is an engagement with writing, a performance project and the complex relationship with our fellow creatures and environment.     

Properties of design-based functional principal components analysis

This work aims at performing functional principal components analysis (FPCA) with Horvitz–Thompson estimators when the observations are curves collected with survey sampling techniques. One important motivation for this study is that FPCA is a dimension reduction tool which is the first step to develop model-assisted approaches that can take auxiliary information into account. FPCA relies on the estimation of the eigenelements of the covariance operator which can be seen as nonlinear functionals. Adapting to our functional context the linearization technique based on the influence function developed by Deville [1999. Variance estimation for complex statistics and estimators: linearization and residual techniques. Survey Methodology 25, 193–203], we prove that these estimators are asymptotically design unbiased and consistent. Under mild assumptions, asymptotic variances are derived for the FPCA’ estimators and consistent estimators of them are proposed. Our approach is illustrated with a simulation study and we check the good properties of the proposed estimators of the eigenelements as well as their variance estimators obtained with the linearization approach.     

Adolescent Filial Piety as a Moderator between Perceived Maternal Control and Mother–Adolescent Relationship Quality in Hong Kong

This study examined the perceived parental styles of maternal warmth and control, as well as adolescent filial piety, in relation to parent–child relationship quality, in 308 Hong Kong Chinese adolescents. The three mother–child relationship qualities measured were perceived maternal support, conflicts, and relationship depth. Adolescents' attitudes toward filial piety explained unique variance in all three of these parent–child relational qualities, over the constructs of maternal warmth and control. In addition, the interaction of filial piety with maternal control explained unique variance in perceived maternal support and mother–child conflicts, but not relationship depth. Results established the potential unique importance of adolescent filial piety and confirmed our hypothesis that the more adolescents emphasize filial piety, the more parental control exerts a positive effect on mother–child relationship quality in Hong Kong families.
