A Simulation Study on the Probability of Correct Selection for Large k Populations

An increasing number of contemporary datasets are high dimensional. Applications require these datasets be screened (or filtered) to select a subset for further study. Multiple testing is the standard tool in such applications, although alternatives have begun to be explored. In order to assess the quality of selection in these high-dimensional contexts, Cui and Wilson (2008b Cui , X. , Wilson , J. ( 2008b ). On the probability of correct selection for large k populations with application to microarray data . Biometrical Journal 50 ( 5 ): 870 – 883 .[Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]) proposed two viable methods of calculating the probability that any such selection is correct (PCS). PCS thereby serves as a measure of the quality of competing statistics used for selection. The first simulation study of this article investigates the two PCS statistics of the above article. It shows that in the high-dimensional case PCS can be accurately estimated and is robust under certain conditions. The second simulation study investigates a nonparametric estimator of PCS.     

Tuning Parameter Selector for the Penalized Likelihood Method in Multivariate Generalized Linear Models

Variable selection is fundamental to high-dimensional multivariate generalized linear models. The smoothly clipped absolute deviation (SCAD) method can solve the problem of variable selection and estimation. The choice of the tuning parameter in the SCAD method is critical, which controls the complexity of the selected model. This article proposes a criterion to select the tuning parameter for the SCAD method in multivariate generalized linear models, which is shown to be able to identify the true model consistently. Simulation studies are conducted to support theoretical findings, and two real data analysis are given to illustrate the proposed method.     

Reliability evaluation of a Semi-Markov repairable system under alternative environments

ABSTRACT

To accurately describe the performance of repairable systems operating under alternative environments, for example, mild/harsh, working/idling, maximum/minimum level demand etc., a Semi-Markov process with a finite state space and two different Semi-Markov kernels is introduced. The state set of the system which is regarded as acceptable might depend on the environments. Two important reliability indices, the availability and time to the first system failure, are obtained via Markov renewal theory, transform and matrix methods. The results and numerical examples are also provided for two special cases: (1) when sojourn times under alternative environments are constants and (2) when sojourn times under environments have exponential distributions.

清高宗与章学诚同生活于传统文化大总结的时代,各自对史学理论多有探讨,分别是官方和私家对传统史学思想总结的代表者。将二人的史学见解予以比较,很有学术意义。他们的具体史学主张各有特色,而在大的原则问题上极其近似,这可以透视出清代"盛世"史学的价值取向,即贯彻纲常伦理准则、官方主导方向、提倡经世致用宗旨。清高宗与章学诚都善于在已经陈旧的史学体系中,提出翻新花样的设想,当时堪称创新,而从长时段历史发展的角度来考察,实为加固了传统史学的旧有轨道。因此,当时无论官方还是私家对史学思想的总结,不仅没有带来史学体系的嬗变和突破,反而更严格地束缚于传统政治文化的躯壳之内,其负面作用不容忽视。

社会制度变迁规律新论--唯物史观的视野

社会制度变迁的“合目的性”与“合规律性”相统一的规律;社会制度变迁的自然演进与理性建构相统一的规律,是适用于任何社会制度变迁的普遍规律。由于现代社会的发展表现出区别于前现代社会的诸多方面的性质和特点,因而其社会制度变迁也具有不同于前现代社会的特征,从而表现出自身特殊的规律性。本文认为,社会制度变迁的“世界性”与“民族性”相统一的规律是现代社会制度变迁的特殊规律。
