Theatralität. Überlegungen zu einem kulturtheoretischen Ansatz

The initial point of my article is the term theatricality which is not only highly frequented and represented in the recent cultural and social study’s discourse but also applied and applicable beyond the determinations of professions. In my opinion this term is still underdeveloped as a systematic sociological term, despite the long tradition of the metaphor of theatre. The term of theatricality seems to be particularly auspicious when using it as a theoretical perspective. In my article I’m making an attempt — especially referring to Goffman — to spread and precise the term of theatricality at the same time. This is planned to be the source of a theoretical development, that combines key-elements of both micro and macro sociology.     

Thinking about change in illegitimacy ratios: United States, 1963–1983

What has been the recent trend in illegitimacy in the United States? The answer depends on what is being measured. If the focus is on illegitimacy rates, then the trend is mixed. Illegitimacy ratios, however, have been skyrocketing. We show that this is primarily the result of declining nuptiaIity (and rising marital dissolution) and secondarily the result of decreases in marital fertility. We argue that the illegitimacy ratio is the better index of the social consequences of out-of-wedlock childbearing and that the high ratios of recent decades are unlikely to abate in the foreseeable future.

THE DEMAND FOR EXCESS RESERVES, LIABILITY MANAGEMENT, AND THE MONEY SUPPLY PROCESS

Commercial bank behavior is not adequately dealt with in existing macro models of the financial sector. The central role of a demand for excess reserves (or free reserves) function in models of the money supply process is particularly suspect. In this paper, it is argued that changes in commercial bank behavior induced by alterations in economic and financial conditions and various banking regulations, along with the central bank's approach to policy, have combined to alter the excess reserve function and the relationship between bank reserves and the money supply. Empirical work presented suggests that the "demand" for excess reserves has indeed undergone structural change. Thus, the study indicates that conventional approaches to commercial bank behavior and the demand for excess reserves need to be reworked.

Reflection on professional practices? Yes, but how? An empirical study on Supervision in academic education at Universities for Social Work in Germany Supervision today is a common element of the studies of Social Work nowadays. The question of what should be the contents and aims of learning in relation to supervision vary however. Often supervision in academic education is an appendix of a more theory based curriculum, or it is a central hinge between theory and practice. The members of the teaching stuff are often internal lecturers without special skills in relation to supervision, or otherwise they are trained supervisors without skills in relation to the application of social work The payment for external supervisors often considerably falls short of the market prices. Empirical studies on the impact of supervision in relation to the development of professional skills for the social practices of social work and the professional identity are missing.
