This paper is the first part of a two-part examination of consensual partnering in Australia. It reviews the Australian literature
on consensual partnering, summarizing evidence of its proliferation since the mid-1960s and also the findings of investigations
into its nature and the personal attributes that predispose some people more than others to adopt it. It then discusses the
shortcomings of Australian census data as a source for studying consensual unions, before using data from the 1991 Census
to present the first elements in a comprehensive profile of the cohabiting population. These cover the basic demography of
consensual partnering: the ages, marital statuses and family type distributions of those involved.

This paper presents a conceptually distinct analysis of the data first reported by Leather et al. Specifically, it investigates the effects of exposure to a variety of forms of work-related violence upon work attitudes and general well-being within a sample of UK public house licensees—individuals who manage public houses and hold the licence permitting the sale of alcoholic drinks on the premises. In addition, it examines the role of social support in moderating such effects. Based upon a sample of 242 licensees, it reports a consistent interaction between exposure to such violence and the availability of perceived intra-organizational support in determining the size of any negative effects upon individual well-being, job satisfaction and organizational commitment. It is argued that exposure to all forms of work-related violence, including intimidation, verbal abuse and threat, should be seen as a potential stressor within the work environment, the negative effects of which are buffered by perceived support from within the organization, but not by that perceived to be available from informal sources such as family and friends. 相似文献

Coding the sibling constellation of genograms has traditionally required that at least one data space be allotted for each child in the sibling group. Space requirements, given a large number of families, can become prohibitive for the researcher and practitioner using a microcomputer to store family data. A new coding method that utilizes binary and base 32 numbers is offered. That method, called the Base 32 Method, yields a space savings of about 33% over the traditional coding method for families with three children, with savings increasing to 70% for families with ten or more children. Consequent space savings will allow computer-using researchers and practitioners to store and analyze much larger amounts of family data and to test statistical hypotheses about such data with increased efficiency and speed of execution. 相似文献

Using data from in-depth interviews with 115 women, men and couples in eastern Australia for whom family formation was a recent,
current or imminent future issue, this article explores contemporary childlessness among those physically able to have children.
It differentiates between those childless by choice and by circumstance, and among other themes highlights (i) the role preservation
of lifestyle appears to play as a motive for deliberate childlessness following development of a life course through early
adulthood that both generates lifestyle aspirations and often places parenthood on the backburner until after age 30, and
(ii) the roles difficulty forming suitable relationships, women’s desire for meaningful careers, and male involvement in family

For quite a few years the two authors have been engaging in dialogues about management issues. Using as a model Plato's dialogues between Socrates and his various students, we have tried to clarify the nature of a concept by asking questions and thinking carefully about the answers. We disagree about many things, but agree that we respect each other's opinions, and can clarify our own viewpoints by debating them respectfully with another. For this dialogue, we decided to focus on the question of the scale of business operations. One of us has a particular preference for small scale enterprise, and for the localisation of the economy, because he believes that the giganticism of corporations is behind many of the problems we face today.
