We model a boundedly rational agent who suffers from limited attention. The agent considers each feasible alternative with a given (unobservable) probability, the attention parameter, and then chooses the alternative that maximizes a preference relation within the set of considered alternatives. We show that this random choice rule is the only one for which the impact of removing an alternative on the choice probability of any other alternative is asymmetric and menu independent. Both the preference relation and the attention parameters are identified uniquely by stochastic choice data.  相似文献

Abstract

This research focuses on responsiveness in high variety manufacturing environments. To achieve it, the article proposes to develop Dynamic Response Capabilities (DRCs) of the manufacturing system defined as the abilities to readjust the planned operating parameters of workload, capacity, and lead time, in the wake of disturbances. To inform their development, built on the Workload Control theory, a routine-based framework is proposed. The framework supports an integrated approach for the implementation of adaptive decision-making routines for workload, capacity, and lead time readjustments at different stages in the order fulfilment process. Findings from two empirical cases show the appropriateness of the framework to develop and utilise DRCs in different settings of disturbances. Results of a simulation study, with one of the case companies, also shows the effectiveness of the framework to drive performance improvements in presence of recurring disturbances leading to demand variability.  相似文献

The paper is about portfolio selection in a non-Markowitz way, involving uncertainty modeling in terms of a series of meaningful quantiles of probabilistic distributions. Considering the quantiles as evaluation criteria of the portfolios leads to a multiobjective optimization problem which needs to be solved using a Multiple Criteria Decision Aiding (MCDA) method. The primary method we propose for solving this problem is an Interactive Multiobjective Optimization (IMO) method based on so-called Dominance-based Rough Set Approach (DRSA). IMO-DRSA is composed of two phases: computation phase, and dialogue phase. In the computation phase, a sample of feasible portfolio solutions is calculated and presented to the Decision Maker (DM). In the dialogue phase, the DM indicates portfolio solutions which are relatively attractive in a given sample; this binary classification of sample portfolios into ‘good’ and ‘others’ is an input preference information to be analyzed using DRSA; DRSA is producing decision rules relating conditions on particular quantiles with the qualification of supporting portfolios as ‘good’; a rule that best fits the current DM’s preferences is chosen to constrain the previous multiobjective optimization in order to compute a new sample in the next computation phase; in this way, the computation phase yields a new sample including better portfolios, and the procedure loops a necessary number of times to end with the most preferred portfolio. We compare IMO-DRSA with two representative MCDA methods based on traditional preference models: value function (UTA method) and outranking relation (ELECTRE IS method). The comparison, which is of methodological nature, is illustrated by a didactic example.  相似文献

It is well known that timing and intensity of remarriage were strictly dependent upon demographic, socio-economic, cultural and legislative factors specific to each community. Thus, the aim of this paper is to compare the extent to which such factors may affect the remarriage patterns of three pre-transitional Italian populations that were different in many respects. By using micro-level data of the sharecropping communities of Casalguidi and Madregolo and the Alpine village of Treppo Carnico, we highlighted similarities and differences in the respective remarriage patterns, in particular, the far lower intensity in the mountain community with respect to the sharecropping ones. Our findings show that along with differences in the demographic system, household structure and land tenure, normative elements concerning widows and the dotal system could in part explain the differentials we found.

We discuss higher-order adjustments for a quasi-profile likelihood for a scalar parameter of interest, in order to alleviate some of the problems inherent to the presence of nuisance parameters, such as bias and inconsistency. Indeed, quasi-profile score functions for the parameter of interest have bias of order O(1)O(1), and such bias can lead to poor inference on the parameter of interest. The higher-order adjustments are obtained so that the adjusted quasi-profile score estimating function is unbiased and its variance is the negative expected derivative matrix of the adjusted profile estimating equation. The modified quasi-profile likelihood is then obtained as the integral of the adjusted profile estimating function. We discuss two methods for the computation of the modified quasi-profile likelihoods: a bootstrap simulation method and a first-order asymptotic expression, which can be simplified under an orthogonality assumption. Examples in the context of generalized linear models and of robust inference are provided, showing that the use of a modified quasi-profile likelihood ratio statistic may lead to coverage probabilities more accurate than those pertaining to first-order Wald-type confidence intervals.  相似文献

Head canting, a lateral shift of the head toward the shoulder axis, was examined in 1498 figures in the complete works of 11 painters from the XIV to the XX century: Martini, van Eyck Hubert and Jan, Holbein, Carracci, Velazquez, Rembrandt, Degas, Cèzanne, Klimt, and Modigliani. All figures (up to 9 in any one painting) that were not in complete profile and that were not depicted bowing or shifting their bodies were selected for analysis. Our analysis found a higher frequency (49%) of head canting in paintings than previously reported in naturalistic settings. Head canting was significantly higher in female figures than male figures. If a figure's head was facing laterally, head canting was more likely to be to the contralateral side. Head canting was lower in older figures than in children, youths, and adults. The highest level of head canting was seen in religious and mythological figures. Head canting was lower in figures of artists and professionals and virtually absent in depictions of nobles. Figures in pose were depicted with less head canting than those in natural settings. Head canting was lower in figures gazing toward the observer. Single-figure portraits head canted less than subjects in multiple-figure paintings. Author analysis revealed that head canting was pronounced in painters of religious subjects and in modern painters, whereas its degree was reduced in official portrait painters. These results are discussed in terms of dominance theory.  相似文献

To improve the quality of prediction of radioactive contamination, geostatistical methods, and in particular multivariate geostatistical models, are increasingly being used. These methods, however, are optimal only in the case in which the data may be assumed Gaussian and do not properly cope with data measurements that are discrete, nonnegative or show some degree of skewness. To deal with these situations, here we consider a hierarchical model in which non-Gaussian variables of different kind are handled simultaneously. We show that when observations are assumed to be conditionally distributed as Poisson and Gamma, variograms and cross-variograms have convenient simple forms, and estimation of the parameters of the model can be carried out by Monte Carlo EM. This work was inspired by radioactive contamination data from the Maddalena Archipelago (Sardinia, Italy).  相似文献

This paper contributes to the problem of estimation of state space model parameters by proposing estimators for the mean, the autoregressive parameters and the noise variances which, contrarily to maximum likelihood, may be calculated without assuming any specific distribution for the errors. The estimators suggested widen the scope of the application of the generalized method of moments to some heteroscedastic models, as in the case of state-space models with varying coefficients, and give sufficient conditions for their consistency. The paper includes a simulation study comparing the proposed estimators with maximum likelihood estimators. Finally, these methods are applied to the calibration of the meteorological radar and estimation of area rainfall.  相似文献

The problem of testing suspected outliers from a linear model with constant intraclass correlation is considered from a Bayesian viewpoint. The main objective of this paper is to develop an outlier test procedure based on the predictive distribution of suspected outlier observations given a set of existing inlier observations.
