Social information gathering by infants 6 and 12 months old was examined as a foundation for later social learning that may be uniquely human. Infant performance on a contingency/extinction task was studied following a caregiver demonstration of the contingency on varied reinforcement schedules. Infants who observed caregivers receive any reinforcing stimulation in pretraining decreased responding over their own acquisition period, possibly because they began to habituate to the reinforcer. In extinction, infants who observed caregivers receive partial reinforcement in pretraining were more persistent in responding than others. This suggested that direct experience with partial reinforcement is not needed for greater persistence in extinction. These studies revealed details of social learning in the 1st year. 相似文献

Moral Positioning: Service User Experiences of Challenging Behaviour in Learning Disability Services
Several studies have indicated the importance of challengingbehaviour as a limiting factor on quality of life (Murphy et al., 1996;Brown and Thompson, 1997; Schwartz, 2003). This article presentsthe findings of research that aimed to investigate adults withlearning disabilities understanding and experiences ofwhat is perceived by staff and services to be challenging behaviour.This study was the final phase of research reported previouslyin this Journal (Hayden and Stevens, 2004). Interviews, groupdiscussions and observations were carried out with twenty-sixpeople with learning disabilities using social servicesresidential and day services. Participants were able to articulatecomplex responses about challenging behaviour, which is characterizedas a moral web: a complex network of antecedents,behaviours and consequences. Social care staff were seen byparticipants to play a key role: protecting people and ensuringthat appropriate (negative) consequences were suffered by instigatorsof challenging behaviour. These findings are interpreted withina positioning theory perspective, suggesting the importanceof understanding the ways that challenging behaviour is constructedthrough social interaction. In the 1990s the labor movement underwent a major transformation in an attempt to confront the challenges facing organized
labor, most notably a precipitous membership decline— in the private sector, membership is currently at a post-Great Depression
low. Despite the enthusiastic response among unionists and scholars alike to this revitalization project, as Zald and Berger
(1978) note, change within formal organizations is often a contentious process, as competing interests struggle for control.
The current labor movement is no exception: Significant conflict surrounds the issue of new organizing activities. While this
period is certainly interesting for the level of open debate occurring over the future of the movement, it is not unique as
a time of heightened tensions among unionists. Herein I describe debates, both historical and present, over organizing goals
and tactics. In order to draw parallels between the past and present, I offer a theoretical account of why organizing is such
a controversial topic. Initial support for these explanations, drawn from quotes from unionists and observers of the movement
alike, indicates that the current turmoil in the labor movement is similar to that which occurred in other important periods
and that the consequences of the decisions made today regarding organizing can have significant ramifications for the movement’s

Summary. Many pesticide sprays that are used for crop protection are harmful to honey-bees. It can therefore be beneficial to add to the spray chemical compounds that are repellent to bees, to discourage them from feeding on recently sprayed crops. Experiments were conducted using an artificial feeding station to assess the repellent effects of various compounds. In this system, bees arrive at the feeding station, choose between feeding dishes to which different chemicals have been added, feed for a variable period and then depart. The number of bees at each feeding dish is recorded at intervals of 1 min. We discuss the analysis of data from this type of experiment, based on a queuing theory model. 相似文献

Interagency training in child protection is an important part of engaging professionals in a common approach to their collective responsibility for safeguarding children. Training is a key method for empowering professionals to carry out their complex role in child protection with appropriate knowledge, skills and confidence. In Buckinghamshire, experiential learning involving actors has met with some success as part of the interagency child protection training programme. The following paper proposes the argument for using actors, describes how this is done and evaluates its effectiveness for participants, trainers and actors. It is suggested that this method has ample rewards if properly planned, particularly for practitioners in lessons for practice. A close working relationship must be developed between actors and trainers. Scenarios that seem real can be portrayed and skills can then be practised in the knowledge that no one is really being harmed but valuable lessons for real‐life situations can be learned. Public service organizations usually produce multiple outputs,measured on different scales, giving rise to a suite of performanceindicators. The traditional approach to statistical analysisof organizational performance has been to develop a separateregression model for each performance indicator. This piecemealapproach, the article argues, may discard valuable information,as it ignores potentially important relationships between individualperformance measures. We therefore propose modeling an organization'sperformance measures simultaneously, using the methods of seeminglyunrelated regressions. The approach implicitly introduces alatent organizational variable into the regressions and maytherefore economize on the need to assemble explicit measuresof organizational characteristics.
