Small area housing stress estimation in Australia: Calculating confidence intervals for a spatial microsimulation model

This study provides small area housing stress estimates by tenure type in Australia with a way of calculating confidence intervals for a spatial microsimulation model. Findings reveal that prevalence of housing stress for private-renter, buyer, public-renter and owner households are 59.6%, 33.2%, 6.9%, and 0.3%, respectively. Almost two-thirds of these households are located in statistical local areas (SLAs) in eight capital cities, and a large number of them are in Sydney and Melbourne. Estimates for private renters and buyers are significantly high in some capitals and southeast coastal regions. About 95.7% of SLAs show accurate estimates with narrow confidence intervals.     

Tests of homogeneity of intercepts after a preliminary test

For the multl-sample regression model , the problem of testing equality of intercepts following a preliminarytest on the equality o f slopes is considered. The t e s t s are based on the conventional least squares estimators (without necessarily assuming the normality of the underlying error distributions ) , and the impact of a

preliminary test on the asymptotic size and power of the final test is studied.     

On shrinkage r-estimation in a multiple regression model

For a multiple regression model, bearing the plausibility of a subset of the regression parameters being close to a pivot, for the complementary subset, based on the usual James-Stein rule, a general formulation of shrinkage R-estimation is considered. In the light of asymptotic distributional risks of estimators, performance characteristics ( under local alternatives) of the classical R-est-imator and its preliminary test and shrinkage versions (all based on the common score function ) are studied. These shed light on the relative dominance picture in a meaningful asymptotic setup.     

Estimation of parameters of location-scale family of distributions in complete and type ii censored samples

In this paper we consider the estimation of location, scale and quantile-function of a location-scale family of distributions in complete and Type II multicensored samples. Our method integrates the two well-known approaches to probability plotting, namely, the analytic method of Blom (1958) and the hazard plotting method due to Nelson (1972). Some important special cases of location-scale family of distributions are considered for details.     

Estimating quantiles using optimally selected order statistics

This expository paper deals with the linear estimation of quantiles of location-scale families of distributions using a few selected order statistics.The general theory for the problem i s reviewed for the exact as well as the asymptotic cases.

Geriatric care in public health emergencies is a serious concern, while, high case-fatalities among older adults across the globe in COVID-19 pandemic implies lack of preparedness. Most of the countries irrespective of developing and developed one enormously struggling because of an inchoate response system ignorant of geriatric health needs. Therefore, a robust approach is highly essential that requires an integrated emergency preparedness by addressing geriatric care.

Portrayal of Muslims Following the Murders of Lee Rigby in Woolwich and Mohammed Saleem in Birmingham: A Content Analysis of UK Newspapers

In 2013, Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale murdered a British soldier, named Lee Rigby in Woolwich, south-east London. In the aftermath of the incident, evidence showed Muslims had become targets for a rise in anti-Muslim hate crimes.¹1. ACPO, “True Vision Records”, 2013. In such times, the role of the media is crucial in projecting a balanced approach. This study analysed newspaper coverage three weeks from the Woolwich attacks and examined the language and headlines used to describe Muslims. Over 1022 articles from UK newspapers were reviewed using the Nexis database utilising both quantitative and qualitative methods to examine the media narrative regarding Muslims and also make a comparative analysis of how the media reported on the case of Mohammed Saleem who was murdered by the far right extremist, Pavlo Lapshyn. The newspaper articles were analysed by using the computer software NVivo to search for and identify patterns across the articles in order to give an idea of the most frequent ways that Muslims were being portrayed. This paper found that news coverage had generalised about Muslims which was made in an overtly prejudicial way.
