Using archival data for a sample of U.S. presidents, evidence was found for a honeymoon and hangover effect in approval ratings over time. That is, presidential approval tended to be high early in the president's term and decrease over time. The effect of time on approval persisted even when military and economic indicators were included as predictors of presidential approval. More importantly, the effect of time on approval was moderated by charisma, such that charismatic leaders better maintained their approval rating over time. We take this as evidence that the honeymoon/hangover effect on presidential approval is substantively meaningful from a psychological perspective. 相似文献

The undergraduate Business Policy (Strategic Management) course is often taught by using the case method of instruction. Cases
are generally regarded as especially good vehicles for giving students an understanding of the general management view of
an organization. The authors believe that it is useful for students to learn much about the strategy of at least one corporation
in-depth. They use a business bestseller about a particular company or industry each semester for this purpose. All undergraduate
students prepare the same written assignments on this company or industry using the business bestseller as a starting point.
Experience in using the business bestseller as the basis of a written assignment in the business policy course has been very
positive. Students both enjoy and profit from an assignment that focuses in-depth on a major firm or industry that they can
comprehend and the evolution of which they can follow. Alumni often indicate that they continue to track the company or industry
after graduation. The authors believe that such written assignments help prepare students of business strategy for the real
world.

The social composition of an unselected sample of 282 English children and adolescents aged eight to 16 years involved in intensive training in four sports, football, swimming, tennis and gymnastics, was investigated. Working class children and children from lone parent families were under-represented in all sports. The costs of participation in intensive training were determined, and it was concluded that financial considerations as well as difficulties of access to training facilities were major deterrents to participation by disadvantaged children. Closely bounded research programs are both common and effective in sociology. Describing such programs as operating with a "restricted code" is deeply problematic. These matters aside, the remarkable rise of cultural sociology in fact reflects adaptation to sociology's disciplinary norms and core thematic concerns. Household spending on children’s pre-tertiary education is exceptionally high in Japan and South Korea, and has been cited as a cause of low fertility. Previous research attributes this high spending to a cultural emphasis on education in East Asian countries. In this paper, we argue that institutional factors, namely higher education and labor market systems, play an important role in reinforcing the pressure on parents to invest in their children’s education. We review evidence showing that graduating from a prestigious university has very high economic and social returns in Japan and South Korea, and examine the implications for fertility within the framework of quantity–quality models. Finally, we put forward ‘reverse one-child’ policies that directly address the unintended consequences of these institutional factors on fertility. These policies have the additional virtues of having very low fiscal requirements and reducing social inequality. 相似文献

In this paper we introduce a sequential seasonal unit root testing approach which explicitly addresses its application to high frequency data. The main idea is to see which unit roots at higher frequency data can also be found in temporally aggregated data. We illustrate our procedure to the analysis of monthly data, and we find, upon analysing the aggregated quarterly data, that a smaller amount of test statistics can sometimes be considered.
