Pattern of clustering of menopausal problems: A study with a Bengali Hindu ethnic group

Abstract

We attempted to find out how menopausal problems cluster with each other. The study was conducted among a group of women belonging to a Bengali-speaking Hindu ethnic group of West Bengal, a state located in Eastern India. We recruited 1,400 participants for the study. Information on sociodemographic aspects and menopausal problems were collected from these participants with the help of a pretested questionnaire. Results of cluster analysis showed that vasomotor, vaginal, and urinary problems cluster together, separately from physical and psychosomatic problems.     

Empire or Imperialism: Implications for a 'New' politics of resistance

Globalisation raises questions about the capacity of the nation-state to function within the national interest. Hardt and Negri argue that nation-state sovereignty is in decline and that Empire -- a new supranational and deterritorialising form of sovereignty -- has superseded it. The question then arises, where does sovereignty reside if it is no longer existent within the nation-state. It is here that post-colonial theory may well provide insights as post-colonial subjects have had to confront these issues. The following questions are explored through a critical engagement with recent social theory. What is the relationship between the biological and political body within such a context? Furthermore, what are the implications of this for a politics of resistance?     

Estimation and testing of P(Y > X) in two-parameter exponential distributions

In this article, we obtain the UMVUE of the reliability function ξ=P(Y>X) and the UMVUE of ξ ^k =[P(Y>X)] ^k in the two-parameter exponential distributions with known scale parameters. We also derive the distribution of the UMVUE of ξ and further considering the tests of hypotheses regarding the reliability function ξ.     

Locally most powerful tests for the two sample problem when the combined sample is type ii censored

We derive locally most powerful tests for the two sample problem when the combined sample is type II censored. Both middle-censored and doubly-censored cases are considered. These include, in particular, the left- and right-censored cases. The main contribution of this paper is to provide extensive small sample size tables of critical values for Wilcoxon. normal scores, Freund-Ansari-Bradley and Capon tests.     

Estimating common standard deviation of two normal populations with ordered means

Independent random samples are taken from two normal populations with means $\mu _1$ and $\mu _2$ and a common unknown variance $\sigma ^2.$ It is known that $\mu _1\le \mu _2.$ In this paper, estimation of the common standard deviation $\sigma $ is considered with respect to a scale invariant loss function. A general minimaxity result is proved and a class of minimax estimators is derived. An admissibility result is proved in this class. Further a class of equivariant estimators with respect to a subgroup of affine group is considered and dominating estimators in this class are obtained. The risk performance of some of these estimators is compared numerically.     

Optimum Designs for Parameter Estimation in Linear Mixture Models with Synergistic Effects

In this article, we derive optimum designs for parameter estimation in a mixture experiment when the response function is linear in the mixing components with some synergistic effects. The D- and A-optimality criteria have been used for the purpose. The Equivalence Theorem has been used to check for the optimality of the proposed designs.
