A double L ranked set sampling (DLRSS) method is suggested for estimating the population mean. The DLRSS is compared with the simple random sampling (SRS), ranked set sampling (RSS) and L ranked set sampling (LRSS) methods based on the same number of measured units. The conditions for which the suggested estimator performs better than the other estimators are derived. It is found that, the suggested DLRSS estimator is an unbiased of the population mean, and is more efficient than its counterparts using SRS, RSS, and LRSS methods. The adaptive multivariate CUSUM (AMCUSUM) chart has received considerable attention because of its superior sensitivity against a range of mean shift sizes than that of the conventional non-adaptive multivariate CUSUM (MCUSUM) chart. Recently, weighted AMCUSUM (WAMCUSUM) charts with a fixed sampling interval (FSI) have been proposed, called the WAMCUSUM-FSI charts, which provide more sensitivity than the AMCUSUM-FSI charts. In this paper, we extend this work and propose WAMCUSUM charts with variable sampling interval (VSI), named the WAMCUSUM-VSI charts, for efficiently monitoring the mean of a multivariate normally distributed process. The Monte Carlo simulation method is used to compute the average time to signal (ATS) and the adjusted ATS (AATS) profiles of the existing and proposed charts. It is found that the WAMCUSUM-VSI charts perform substantially and nearly uniformly better than the WAMCUSUM-FSI charts in terms of the ATS and AATS performance criterion. An example is given to explain the implementation of the WAMCUSUM charts with fixed and VSIs.  相似文献

Outlier detection has been used extensively in data analysis to detect anomalous observation in data. It has important applications such as in fraud detection and robust analysis, among others. In this paper, we propose a method in detecting multiple outliers in linear functional relationship model for circular variables. Using the residual values of the Caires and Wyatt model, we applied the hierarchical clustering approach. With the use of a tree diagram, we illustrate the detection of outliers graphically. A Monte Carlo simulation study is done to verify the accuracy of the proposed method. Low probability of masking and swamping effects indicate the validity of the proposed approach. Also, the illustrations to two sets of real data are given to show its practical applicability.  相似文献

In many situations, the quality of a process or product may be better characterized and summarized by a relationship between the response variable and one or more explanatory variables. Parameter estimation is the first step in constructing control charts. Outliers may hamper proper classical estimators and lead to incorrect conclusions. To remedy the problem of outliers, robust methods have been developed recently. In this article, a robust method is introduced for estimating the parameters of simple linear profiles. Two weight functions, Huber and Bisquare, are applied in the estimation algorithm. In addition, a method for robust estimation of the error terms variance is proposed. Simulation studies are done to investigate and evaluate the performance of the proposed estimator, as well as the classical one, in the presence and absence of outliers under different scenarios by the means of MSE criterion. The results reveal that the robust estimators proposed in this research perform as well as classical estimators in the absence of outliers and even considerably better when outliers exist. The maximum value of variance estimate in one scenario obtained from classical estimator is 10.9, while this value is 1.66 and 1.27 from proposed robust estimators when its actual value is 1.  相似文献

Statistical control charts are widely used in the manufacturing industry. The Shewhart-type control charts are developed to improve the monitoring process mean by using the double quartile-ranked set sampling, quartile double-ranked set sampling, and double extreme-ranked set sampling methods. In terms of the average run length, the performance of the proposed control charts are compared with the existing control charts based on simple random sampling, ranked set sampling and extreme-ranked set sampling methods. An application of real data is also considered to investigate the performance of the suggested process mean control charts. The findings of the study revealed that the newly suggested control charts are superior to the existing counterparts.  相似文献

Recent advances in technology have allowed researchers to collect large scale complex biological data, simultaneously, often in matrix format. In genomic studies, for instance, measurements from tens to hundreds of thousands of genes are taken from individuals across several experimental groups. In time course microarray experiments, gene expression is measured at several time points for each individual across the whole genome resulting in a high-dimensional matrix for each gene. In such experiments, researchers are faced with high-dimensional longitudinal data. Unfortunately, traditional methods for longitudinal data are not appropriate for high-dimensional situations. In this paper, we use the growth curve model and introduce test useful for high-dimensional longitudinal data and evaluate its performance using simulations. We also show how our approach can be used to filter genes in time course genomic experiments. We illustrate this using publicly available genomic data, involving experiments comparing normal human lung tissue with vanadium pentoxide treated human lung tissue, designed with the aim of understanding the susceptibility of individuals working in petro-chemical factories to airway re-modelling. Using our method, we were able to filter out 1053 (about 5 %) genes as non-noise genes from a pool of  22,277. Although our focus is on hypothesis testing, we also provided modified maximum likelihood estimator for the mean parameter of the growth curve model and assessed its performance through bias and mean squared error.  相似文献

Through an analysis of Ghana's HIPC Fund which was established as part of the PRSP process, this article shows how aid‐financed efforts to reduce regional inequality in Ghana have failed. Dominant political elites agreed to policies reducing regional inequality in order to have access to aid funding but, once approved, these funds were allocated on quite different criteria in ways that marginalised the poorest. This analysis reinforces the growing recognition that developmental outcomes in most poor countries are shaped not so much by the design of ‘good’ policies per se, but more importantly by the power relationships within which policy‐implementing institutions are embedded. Aid donors seem unable to grasp this important lesson fully, and so their capacity to contribute to reducing regional inequality remains limited.  相似文献
