This study examined the longitudinal associations among maternal warmth, adolescents' self‐disclosure, and maternal knowledge during the transition to adolescence. Three years of self‐report data were collected from 131 married mothers and their adolescents. Results from longitudinal analysis using adolescent reports indicated that greater maternal warmth in sixth grade predicted higher levels of adolescents' self‐disclosure in seventh grade, which in turn led to higher levels of maternal knowledge in eighth grade. Thus, adolescents' self‐disclosure served as an indirect link between higher maternal warmth and greater knowledge over time. An alternative model with prior self‐disclosure predicting subsequent maternal warmth and knowledge was not supported. Overall, this study demonstrated a time‐ordered process by which maternal warmth and adolescents' self‐disclosure predict maternal knowledge. Understanding such processes that affect parental knowledge may be beneficial for future prevention and intervention efforts during the transition to adolescence. 相似文献

In research on value similarity and transmission between parents and adolescents, no consensus exists on the level of value similarity. Reports of high‐value similarities coexist with reports of low‐value similarities within the family. The present study shows that different conclusions may be explained by the use of different measurement strategies. In addition, we demonstrate that measured value similarities may be biased by a cultural stereotype, that is, an indirectly measurable phenomenon outside the family most likely attributed to shared cultural experiences. We examined similarities in 8 social–cultural value orientations among fathers, mothers, and adolescents from 433 Dutch families. Results revealed different outcomes when using ordinary correlations (r), absolute difference scores (d), or profile correlations (q). Similarly, different influences of a cultural stereotype were found when applying different measurement strategies. We discuss which measurement strategies are best used under which circumstances and which role the cultural stereotype plays. 相似文献

Our understanding of the underlying demographic components of population change in new Hispanic destinations is limited. In this paper, we (1) compare Hispanic migration patterns in traditional settlement areas with new growth in emerging Hispanic destinations; (2) examine the role of immigration vis‐à‐vis domestic migration in spurring Hispanic population redistribution; and (3) document patterns of migrant selectivity, distinguishing between in‐migrants and non‐migrant Hispanics at both the origin and destination. We use several recent datasets, including the 1990 and 2000 Public Use Microdata Samples (which include new regional geocodes), and the 2005 and 2006 files of the American Community Survey. Our results document the widespread dispersion of the Hispanic population over the 1990–2006 period from established Hispanic gateways into new Hispanic areas and other parts of the country. Nearly one‐half of Hispanic net migration in new destinations comes from domestic gains. In contrast, both established and other Hispanic areas depend entirely on immigration, with each losing domestic migrants to high growth areas. Migrant flows also are highly differentiated by education, citizenship, and nativity. To fully understand the spatial diffusion of Hispanics requires a new appreciation of the complex interplay among immigration, internal domestic migration, and fertility. 相似文献

Our experiment, which tested support for a hypothetical social welfare program, found that the civically engaged as a whole were resistant to social justice framing employing universalistic versus particularistic standards. We suggest the lack of a framing effect was due to the use of a preexisting, shared “symbolic racism” frame. Social justice framing did succeed for those whose attitudes toward symbolic racism were ambivalent or neutral. Other factors including sex, income level, political participation, and ideology significantly influenced choice. These results provide some indications of limits to experimental framing of policy preferences of the civically engaged in their institutional settings. 相似文献

This paper presents, for the first time, multivariate analyses of Canadian national data and tests the relationship between
class-based egalitarianism and housework for married and cohabiting male and female university professors in 2000. Consistent
with evidence in the general population, gender accounts for more variation in housework than a host of other predictors (i.e.,
class- and gender-based ideology, institutional contexts and resources, available time, presence of children, age, minority
racial status, and religiosity). Nevertheless, these forces play important roles in increasing or decreasing domestic labor
contributions of both male and female academics. Among these, professors who possess class-based egalitarian views do more
housework, and egalitarianism increases domestic labor contributions of males and decreases that of females. 相似文献

This article examines the relationship between refugees andthe regional dynamics of peacebuilding. It argues that recentapproaches to peacebuilding have adopted a narrow understandingof conflict. The article outlines the links between protractedrefugee situations and regional insecurity to argue that therelationship between peacebuilding and refugees goes beyondrepatriation. Instead, the presence of "spoilers" within therefugee-populated areas, the potential for early and forcedrepatriation, and the politicization of refugees while in exilehave all the proven potential to undermine peacebuilding efforts,while the experience of exile may enable refugees to contributeto the peacebuilding process. 相似文献

This study aims at ascertaining how Hong Kong people perceive Hong Kong as a harmonious society. It also identifies the elements
that are most conducive to social harmony in Hong Kong, so that the government could take reference when formulating new policies.
1,062 adults residents were asked to rate their perceived level of social harmony and their satisfaction with 36 items (divided
into three dimensions: public governance, society, and economy, family and work) for which the research team believes would
be influencing the perceived level of social harmony. Results show that the average rating of social harmony was 5.57 (out
of 10), delineating a moderate level of social harmony. Subsequent multivariate factor analysis and regression analysis show
that the four extracted factors (from the three dimensions) had significant impacts on the level of social harmony. These
were, in order of significance: (a) public governance, (b) social solidarity and respect, (c) economy/family/work and, (d)
social tolerance and progressiveness. According to the factor loadings of each significant factor, we identified four core
values which we hope the government would consider when formulating new policies, as follows: (1) A Justice Government with
Sincerity on Communication, (2) Mutual Support and Respect with Integrity and Dedication, (3) Dedication to One’s Job and
Community by Helping the Needed and, (4) Creativity and Progressiveness with Tolerance. Implications for policy making are
discussed.

Ryff’s (1989b) Psychological Well-Being (PWB) scales measure six related constructs of human functioning. The present paper examined the validity of Ryff’s 6-factor PWB model, using data from a life events study (N = 401) and an organisational climate study (N = 679). Previous validation studies, using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), have identified alternative PWB models, but limitations include the use of shorter scale versions with items relating to a number of life domains within the same PWB factor, and failure to examine the influence of participants’ socio-demographic characteristics on PWB. In this study, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) mostly found consistency in the PWB items and structure between the two studies whereby a 3-factor model delineated between items relating to Autonomy, Positive Relations and a super-ordinate factor comprising the other PWB factors. Using CFA, Goodness of Fit indices reached acceptable levels for the adjusted PWB model identified by the EFA, whilst differences between adjusted models of PWB previously identified in the literature were hardly evident. Post-hoc analysis by gender demonstrated socio-demographic effects on the structure and items that comprise PWB. Further development of PWB measures is needed to reflect its hierarchical and multi-dimensional nature. In the scales’ current form, the construct validation of the PWB factors will continue to be problematic and will fail to adequately evaluate the nature and impact of PWB. 相似文献

Using confidential microdata from the US Census Bureau, we investigate the performance of Asian-owned businesses. Using regression
estimates and a special non-linear decomposition technique, we explore the role that class resources, such as financial capital
and human capital, play in contributing to the relative success of Asian businesses. We find that Asian-owned businesses are
more successful than white-owned businesses for two main reasons—Asian owners have high levels of human capital and their
businesses have substantial start-up capital. Using detailed information on both the owner and the firm, we estimate the explanatory
power of several additional factors.

Determining priority importance is a matter of concerns among the organization to improve their performance. One of the important
aspects that should be considered by the organization is management of human resources, comprising of members who have their
own family life. In this paper, we deliver a new perspective for organization to provide priority importance for their members
with respect to family matters in order to inculcate the sense of belonging in the organization. To be effective in considering
family matters in the organizational policy making, closer look of family characteristics are required. The idea of translating
several family characteristics as quality variables and applying the quality function deployment (QFD) method to these variables
could present a new way of improving the decision making in the organization by considering the process of decision in the
family. Quality function deployment for family (QFDF) produces a friendly interpretation of a highly complex and intangible
matters around family life; thus, making the assessment of a family easier. QFD is applied on the data gathered from a questionnaire
survey based on 1,213 families in West Malaysia, Malaysia. Twelve variables are identified as voice of family, where seven
of them are found to have the highest priority of importance. These variables could also be translated into quality variables
in the context of organization, the strategy of improvement for the family could be interpreted as strategy for improvement
in the organization. Furthermore, the results of this study provide suggestion to improve actions for managing human resource.
