The growth rate of the gross domestic product (GDP) usually carries heteroscedasticity, asymmetry and fat-tails. In this study three important and significantly heteroscedastic GDP series are examined. A Normal, normal-mixture, normal-asymmetric Laplace distribution and a Student's t-Asymmetric Laplace (TAL) distribution mixture are considered for distributional fit comparison of GDP growth series after removing heteroscedasticity. The parameters of the distributions have been estimated using maximum likelihood method. Based on the results of different accuracy measures, goodness-of-fit tests and plots, we find out that in the case of asymmetric, heteroscedastic and highly leptokurtic data the TAL-distribution fits better than the alternatives. In the case of asymmetric, heteroscedastic but less leptokurtic data the NM fit is superior. Furthermore, a simulation study has been carried out to obtain standard errors for the estimated parameters. The results of this study might be used in e.g. density forecasting of GDP growth series or to compare different economies.  相似文献

The zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) distribution is widely used for modeling a count data set when the frequency of zeros is higher than the one expected under the Poisson distribution. There are many methods for making inferences for the inflation parameter in the ZIP models, e.g. the methods for testing Poisson (the inflation parameter is zero) versus ZIP distribution (the inflation parameter is positive). Most of these methods are based on the maximum likelihood estimators which do not have an explicit expression. However, the estimators which are obtained by the method of moments are powerful enough, easy to obtain and implement. In this paper, we propose an approach based on the method of moments for making inferences about the inflation parameter in the ZIP distribution. Our method is also compared to some recent methods via a simulation study and it is illustrated by an example.  相似文献

Recently, Zhang [Simultaneous confidence intervals for several inverse Gaussian populations. Stat Probab Lett. 2014;92:125–131] proposed simultaneous pairwise confidence intervals (SPCIs) based on the fiducial generalized pivotal quantity concept to make inferences about the inverse Gaussian means under heteroscedasticity. In this paper, we propose three new methods for constructing SPCIs to make inferences on the means of several inverse Gaussian distributions when scale parameters and sample sizes are unequal. One of the methods results in a set of classic SPCIs (in the sense that it is not simulation-based inference) and the two others are based on a parametric bootstrap approach. The advantages of our proposed methods over Zhang’s (2014) method are: (i) the simulation results show that the coverage probability of the proposed parametric bootstrap approaches is fairly close to the nominal confidence coefficient while the coverage probability of Zhang’s method is smaller than the nominal confidence coefficient when the number of groups and the variance of groups are large and (ii) the proposed set of classic SPCIs is conservative in contrast to Zhang’s method.  相似文献

Two Itô stochastic differential equation (SDE) systems are constructed for a Susceptible-Infected-Susceptible epidemic model with temporary vaccination. A constant number of new members enter the population and total size of the population is variable. Some conditions for disease extinction in the stochastic models are established and compared with conditions in deterministic one. It is shown that the two stochastic models are equivalent in the sense that their solutions come from same distribution. In addition, the SDE models are simulated and the equivalence of the two stochastic models is confirmed by numerical examples. The probability distribution for extinction is also obtained numerically, provided there exists a probability for disease persistence whereas the expected duration of epidemic is acquired when extinction occurs with probability 1.  相似文献

Scientific periodicals fulfill a significant role in the communication, exchange, and sharing of scientific findings. In recent years, the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology (MSRT) has concentrated on non-medical, scientific periodicals. The present paper offers a short history of scientific periodicals and their role in Iran. The authors further examine the current status in the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology by using a systems approach. Scientific periodicals in Iran involve four external entities and six major subsystems, including resources, format, content, publication, refereeing, and structure. Investigation of the current failings of the periodicals in the MSRT reveals that the main orientation of the system does not facilitate scientific communication, ease of starting new periodicals, and promotion of natural development of these periodicals. The authors suggest ways to improve the status of scholarly periodicals in Iran.  相似文献

Relative risks (RRs) are often considered as preferred measures of association in randomized controlled trials especially when the binary outcome of interest is common. To directly estimate RRs, log-binomial regression has been recommended. Although log-binomial regression is a special case of generalized linear models, it does not respect the natural parameter constraints, and maximum likelihood estimation is often subject to numerical instability that leads to convergence problems. Alternative methods for solving log-binomial regression convergence problems have been proposed. A Bayesian approach also was introduced, but the comparison between this method and frequentist methods has not been fully explored. We compared five frequentist and one Bayesian methods for estimating RRs under a variety of scenario. Based on our simulation study, there is not a method that can perform well based on different statistical properties, but COPY 1000 and modified log-Poisson regression can be considered in practice.  相似文献

We study the non-parametric estimation of a continuous distribution function F based on the partially rank-ordered set (PROS) sampling design. A PROS sampling design first selects a random sample from the underlying population and uses judgement ranking to rank them into partially ordered sets, without measuring the variable of interest. The final measurements are then obtained from one of the partially ordered sets. Considering an imperfect PROS sampling procedure, we first develop the empirical distribution function (EDF) estimator of F and study its theoretical properties. Then, we consider the problem of estimating F, where the underlying distribution is assumed to be symmetric. We also find a unique admissible estimator of F within the class of nondecreasing step functions with jumps at observed values and show the inadmissibility of the EDF. In addition, we introduce a smooth estimator of F and discuss its theoretical properties. Finally, we expand on various numerical illustrations of our results via several simulation studies and a real data application and show the advantages of PROS estimates over their counterparts under the simple random and ranked set sampling designs.  相似文献

The present work demonstrates an application of random effects model for analyzing birth intervals that are clustered into geographical regions. Observations from the same cluster are assumed to be correlated because usually they share certain unobserved characteristics between them. Ignoring the correlations among the observations may lead to incorrect standard errors of the estimates of parameters of interest. Beside making the comparisons between Cox's proportional hazards model and random effects model for analyzing geographically clustered time-to-event data, important demographic and socioeconomic factors that may affect the length of birth intervals of Bangladeshi women are also reported in this paper.  相似文献
